For me, here's why. These may be a bit simplistic, but what the hell.

Liberalism:

Simply because conservatism is generally more likely to escalate into extremism. Also, I seem to be able to accept liberal ideologies more than I do conservative ones.

Socialism:

Well, it's better that capitalism and a metric fuckton of a lot better than communism...

Atheism:

As one of the few non-atheists here (agnostic), I can't answer this.

So, what are your reasons as to why you favor these?

I don't know about your names for these things -- I have no interest in politics and all the complexities involved. I just know what I do and do not like and what ideas I subscribe to. People like talking to other people with the same views. The end?

Hello please stop misusing the word agnostic, it does not represent some vague middle ground between theism and atheism. Agnosticism is the position that the question of god's existence cannot be answered one way or the other and is entirely separate from atheism/theism.

because they correlate well with my world-view and how I think things should work...? I'm not sure what else anyone is supposed to say; presumably if you're strongly for a religion/political stance/etc then it's because it meshes well with how you want society to be or what you personally believe in?

as for why TCoD is mostly liberal/athiest/etc then I don't think TCoD mostly is, I'm pretty sure that there's a fair amount of right-wing theists here, they just stay the hell away from srs bsns and don't really feel the need to discuss their views on such matters.

I haven't been here a long time but I'd have to say, after perusing around to a degree, I wouldn't say that the majority of the member-base here is composed of liberal-socialist-atheists.

People who participate in discussions in this forum in particular are more likely to be strongly of an opinion than not (otherwise they'd probably not have so much interest in the topic at hand anyway). If those people happen to be of the liberal/socialist/atheist persuasion, fine, but I don't think that making an assumption based on a select portion of the userbase would be accurate.

Oh, and just because it's semi-relevant, I'm agnostic, conservative, and most definitely not a socialist :B. I reckon there's quite a few people not of the inclination you suppose is dominant in this forum, they probably just aren't so vocal about it.
 
there is really no point in differentiating socialism from communism! unless you're talking about a 'social democrat' version of socialism, which isn't socialism, but reform capitalism.

for the internet in general, because:
conservatism is a 100% intellectually and morally bankrupt ideology. most people who arent just brainwashed get that one right.

Do you expect a full-page proof whenever someone says 2 + 2 = 4? I've lived in Germany, I've lived in the US. Capitalism and conservatism suck.

No, I don't, I was just wondering what they were getting at in their post stating that conservatism is "morally and intellectually bankrupt". The reasoning behind that would be significant to this discussion, wouldn't it? It's not like liberalism and socialism are without their flaws; if one is presented with a choice between liberalism and conservatism, you'd have to weigh up each philosophy's advantages and disadvantages. I'd just like to know what made that poster come to that conclusion, especially because I believe otherwise and it may be something I'm missing.

I'm just going to to with the simple but attractive theory that like attracts like. The demographics you're describing were just the ones that got here earliest and managed to come to power by some means, and form the culture of the forum. I'm not saying we're founded on atheism, or anything, but... I guess the best I can say is it makes sense to me.
