Johto Pokemon Master's Legue

[note: this won't be strictly based off pokemon canon, it's also loosely based off a fanfiction I'm writing, except it's set two centuries in the past from when the fanfic is set]

Background story: 214 years ago...

The world of pokemon looked very different from how it does now. There were no pokeballs for a start, just apricorns. Vehicles were drawn by stantler, there were no motorcars or aeroplanes, not very many paved roads aside from in major cities (which resembled small towns by modern standards). There were no big technologically advanced labs, and there was no pokemon league. The people of Johto lived a life of necessity and not luxury. The most common occupation was that of a farm worker.

However, things were changing.

Next door was another nation - Kanto. Johto preferred to stay out of Kanto's business. The old Johto monarchy had established an atmosphere of tolerance for Kanto, but there was no real co-operation. It was guaranteed that if Kanto wanted to they could easily overthrow Johto. Their inhabitants consisted of a "missing link" between humans and pokemon - the hyvans. Human-like creatures born with the capability of attacking like pokemon. Against the hyvans, the people of Johto were no match. They were fortunate that for a while Kanto and Johto seemed uninterested in one another.

For a long time, they lived in relative peace as neighbours. The hyvan blood of Kanto was heavily diluted by human blood, but this didn't affect their strength in any negative way. Despite this the new government of Johto, who have overthrown the old monarchy, want them out. Whether out meant out, or whether out meant dead, didn't matter to the new rulers of Johto. For a long time they had recognised the potential of being squashed flat by a hyvan army, and they didn’t want to make the last move.

A propaganda campaign was launched in order to gain the support of the people and propagate fear for the hyvans. Pokemon training took off big time as pokemon were far more efficient and powerful weapons than swords and arrows. The sudden and unexpected attack on the Hyvan town of Pallet by the Johto Pokemon Masters, as Johto's ’soldiers’ liked to call themselves, left the small town in ruins. Thus, war began. Hatred erupted between the hyvans and the human inhabitants of Johto. Johto hyvans were exiled or killed only for being hyvan by the most ignorant and racist of the humans, and the same fate was met by many pure-blooded human inhabitants of Kanto at the hands of hyvan bigots. Those who supported peace between the two sides often had to watch what they said, where they said it, and who they were with and who was watching while they were with them.

The hyvan government resides on Indigo Plateu, whereas the centre point of Johto's leadership resides in Goldenrod. For many in both regions the fight for survival has begun.

Main story:

A new competition has sprung up in Johto - the Pokemon Master's League. It's the first year of the event. It offers respite to the people of Johto from the fear and apprehension of the war. It gives them a chance to compete, relax, and cheer on their favourite heroes.

It is hosted in Goldenrod in a large colosseum. From all around the region pokemon masters travel to the city, training their captured pokemon as they go, in preparation for battling their monsters against one another. Many such trainers offer their services as guardsmen and guardswomen, protectors of the lands they cross, and particularly once they reach Goldenrod.

However, rumour has it that there are plans by hyvans to infiltrate Goldenrod, the heart of Johto during the peak of the event. Some say it’s nonsense, there will be too many pokemon trainers making it too risky. Others say, watch your back, they’re coming for their revenge.

The event is still a few months away. Who’s side will you be on, and what role will you take? Storyline will be updated periodically.

Rules:

1) This is to be no more than PG-15 rated, please. I don‘t see much need for it to be even as much as that, but since some violence is possible I think PG-15 is suitable.

2) While you are free to do as you please in this RP as far as storyline goes and your character’s participation, starting point, etc, please at least try to keep it relevant to the main storyline. Lone wolves are okay as long as they actually still interact with the story and other characters and don’t just go off on a story of their own entirely.

3) You do have limited control over how the story develops. If your posts are logical, realistic and well thought out you can change the course of major events within reasonable means. This doesn’t mean that you can completely obliterate the storyline in silly ways or for silly reasons. This just requires common sense.

4) If you choose to be a hyvan or a pokemon or a trainer with pokemon, you cannot be super-strong to the point where you defeat everything in your path without breaking a sweat. Weaknesses are a MUST. There are further clarifications in the sign-up sheet for hyvans and pokemon that you must follow.

5) No modern technology. No PCs. No potions (herbs are the best replacement). No rare candies. Use apricorns, not pokeballs. No electronic pokedex. No pokegear. No mobile phones. No television, no microwaves, no radio towers, no electrical appliances, no modern indoor plumbing, no running hot water, no flushing toilets, no central heating. It’s very, very easy to forget since we are immersed in modern technology, that’s why I’ve listed some of the main things.

6) No more than 6 pokemon per trainer. Hyvans can have pokemon, too.

7) I forgot to mention - no legendaried please, and limit pseudo-legendaries to about 1 per person, thanks.

There is a different sign-up sheet for each type of character you pick. A human sign-up, a hyvan sign-up and a pokemon sign-up. If you are going to be a trainer, you should preferably use a sign-up for each of your pokemon. You can have a maximum of two non-pokemon characters. If you choose to be a pokemon, you can have an additional character of any type, including a trainer with pokemon.

My human sign-up:

Name: Josephine Pidgshaw (Prefers Josie)
Age: 19
Male or female: Female
Alliance: Johto’s side, human
Occupation: Johto Pokemon Master
History: Josie was born into a household in a tiny hamlet not far from Ecruteak, the first child of a happily married couple. They owned a small plot of land and grew vegetables, selling off surplus in the city when they had it. As Josephine got older the family grew. Her mother had more children, meaning that Josephine’s job was pretty much to look after them and work in and around the home from a very young age. Her father became a soldier as she reached her teens and sometimes needed to leave to defend the country, meaning that she and her mother often had to work very hard to make up for his absence.

The highlights of her young life were seeing her father return home and having him around. She admired him, seeing him as her role model of how she wanted to be when she grew up. However, her father always warned her that being a soldier was a tough job best reserved for the fittest of men, and that she would yet find her calling elsewhere.

Recently her younger siblings have been getting older and have been able to help out, meaning that she has had more time on her hands to consider her future. The last time her father returned home he came bearing gifts. He said that “with these around, you’ll be safer while I’m gone.”

They were apricorns, but no ordinary apricorns. They had pokemon inside them. One for each member of the family. She saw a wonderful opportunity to do more with her life than keep the house, get married, then keep another house all over again. She knew right there and then she wanted to be a Johto Pokemon Master, and she signed up for the position the first opportunity she had to visit Ecruteak.

Her father didn’t object as much to this, though he did fret for her safety being out alone in the world. However, her mother backed her up, and her father gave in, and she began her pokemon journey in Ecruteak.

She has caught a full team and has circled the region up to the point that the story begins.

Personality: Josie is quite hardy physically and emotionally, except that she can get a bit lonely easily. Thus she has captured herself a full team of pokemon to keep her company on her travels. She is sensitive to the needs of her pokemon. However, she has more losses under her belt than she has wins, especially against other Pokemon Masters in friendly battles. Despite this she doesn’t relent and even thinks herself a better pokemon trainer than she really is, even to the point of getting cocky with opponent trainers who are way above her level.

She is very emotional about her home and has bought into much of the hype against hyvans. It has struck enough fear into her heart that she feels strongly about having to use her pokemon against hyvan invaders. She hasn’t seen any hyvans as of yet but she is prepared to use her pokemon against them if necessary.

Overall she is cheery and bright but a bit bossy. She knows her place around elders but around those younger or more inexperienced than herself she can get demanding and very testing.

Physical description: [clothing first] Since it can get cool in Johto at night she usually carries around a brown cloak, whether it be worn or slung over her shoulder. Although she loves to wear dresses she has been forced to wear baggy pants (tucked into her shin-high boots) due to too many cases of having her skirts torn or blown about in cold winds. As her journey has progressed she has been able to afford more fancy clothing, sometimes affording silk. She often wears a light-pink lace-up top, slightly revealing her bust, and which comes down as far as her thigh.

She has the typical features of a young and supple blond-haired, blue-eyed woman, a bit mysterious genetically speaking since both her parents are very dark-haired and dark-eyed. The skin on her cheeks is a bit rough and touch looking, contrasting to her childish features, due to the harsh weather she faced on her journey sometimes. She still has the babyish features of a little girl, cheeks still slightly plump with baby fat, which sometimes earns her soft treatment and babying. Her long blond hair is usually tied back in a pony-tail, with her fringe dangling down as far as her eyes, parted to either side of them.

Other: She has a lovely surprise for her family when she returns to Ecruteak. However she must keep it safe until she returns home...

Pokemon sign-up:

Name: Foxie
Species: Vulpix, female
Personality: A very sassy and catty vulpix that loves plenty of pampering and attention. Can get quite jealous of newcomers and often spends a lot of time judging whether or not she likes a person or pokemon. She is also very loyal to her trainer, though, as long as the pampering keeps up, that is.
Ability: Flash fire
Attacks: Flamethrower, Confuse ray, Payback and Safeguard
Level: 33

Name: Tat
Species: Persian, male
Personality: Unlike the vulpix, Tat seems to be the opposite despite being the more cat-like of the two of them. He is actually quite relaxed and likes almost everyone. He does like attention as well as Foxie does though, and it’s the only thing he will squabble with her over. In most cases though, he just leaves Foxie to what she wants.
Ability: Limber
Attacks: Fake out, Pay day, Screech and Fury swipes
Level: 30

Name: Thread
Species: Tangela, male
Personality: Tangela is the runt of the team. Although he is cared for by his trainer, by the other pokemon he is sometimes picked on. He just doesn't fight back. Against opponents, against those picking on him, he just doesn't seem to notice much. It's possible that he is mentally retarded, or at least somewhat dense.
Ability: Leaf Guard
Attacks: Ingrain, Growth, Absorb, Sleep Powder
Level: 22

Name: Flyby
Species: Butterfree, female
Personality: Flyby likes to flutter about on her own most of the time, and most of the time she's cool with that. She hates to be chased and often flees from even non-threatening pokemon. Her favourite activity is drinking nectar from flowers, as is the favourite activity of most butterfree.
Ability: Compoundeyes
Attacks: Silver Wind, Confusion, Stun Spore, Tailwind
Level: 34

Name: Gold
Species: Goldeen, female
Personality: Goldeen likes to show how tough she is. When meeting new pokemon she sizes them up and tries to provoke them. She is extremely proud and hates to lose. Against other goldeen in particular she can be worked up into a real frenzy. She is also difficult to control, and Josie certainly can't control her once she's out of her apricorn!
Ability: Swift Swim
Attacks: Aqua Ring, Horn Attack, Water Pulse, Supersonic
Level: 28

Name: Jade
Species: Nidorina
Personality: Jade is a very calm and pleasant nidorina, not bearing the same temperament as most of her species. She is patient with the team and often takes on a motherly role with them, even the boisterous Gold. She is also tough, loyal and protective.
Ability: Poison Point
Attacks: Toxic Spikes, Helping Hand, Double Kick, Bite
Level: 38

Okay I see a LOT of people have read this but nobody really liked it enough to join up. If you would be so kind as to leave feedback as to why, that would be very much appreciated.

I need to know where I've gone wrong so I can improve on it.

Anyone willing to give a spot of advice? I put a lot of time and effort into this for it to just go to waste like this.
