Okay, Arai-chan, this is our first battle! I want you to start of with a Rain Dance. Next follow up with an Water Pluse until Bahamut is confused unless Bahamut protects, then just chill. If you still have an action to spare, use Surf.

Round One: Begin

Both trainers gingerly step onto the squishy arena. The vast area is composed of the rubbery, pink skin of a gigantic Ditto. Faintly, thorough the semitransparent skin of the enormous Pokemon, the faded contours of its internal organs and its face can be seen. Beneath a clear blue sky, Manaphy Driftrider calls out Bahamut, his Larvitar, while his opponent, Ketsu, calls out Arainami, her Buizel. Bahamut steps cautiously forward, staring at the Ditto's huge backside with a bewildered expression. He watches his pale green reflection with some interest, but he panics for a moment when his toes start to sink. Meanwhile, Arainami cheerfully climbs and leaps across the squishy surface. The Buizel chirrups excitedly, delighted by the bounciness of the arena. Her happiness is short-lived; suddenly, Arainami stumbles in her path. The soft, pink skin of the Ditto rapidly hardens into a dry surface of dirt and rock. Dark brown stones, ranging from boulders to pebbles, lay scattered across the field now.

Arainami pauses in confusion, peering about the arena with wide eyes. Bahamut appears relieved now, but his eyes narrow as he remembers the orders his trainer has given him. Closing his eyes in concentration, he feels his own mental energy flow within him as he summons a strong wind. At his bidding, the wind rushes over the surface of the Golem's back, carrying the loose sand with it. Arainami squints in the blinding brown of the Sandstorm. Although her eyes start to water, she spins and paces in a lively dance. Her paws and tails whirl in the air in almost frantic movements. A scattering of rain clouds tints the sky with gray above them. Blind to the obstacles on the ground, she stumbles on one of the rocks just as her dance is nearing completion. Nevertheless, a light rain begins to fall down on the Golem Ditto's backside in addition to the sandstorm.

Bounding forward into the whirling sand, Arainami looks around her in search of her opponent. She tries to sniff for the earthy scent of the Larvitar to no avail. The sand stings her delicate nostrils and smells mostly of ordinary dirt. Even so, she forces herself to gurgle up some water for her next attack. Meanwhile, Bahamut prepares his body with a careful Rock Polish. Using his claws, he scrapes off the bumps of sand and extra scales that would hinder speedy movement. In his cleaning effort, his green and orange scales begin to shimmer as he strips himself to a streamlined form. Arainami's ears prick forward, barely catching the scratchy sound of Bahamut's movements. Charging forward now, the Buizel releases the water Water Pulse in Bahamut's direction. Taken by surprise, the Larvitar yelps as the water pounds into his head. The force of the water mingling with the force of sound waves induces a dull, throbbing headache in Bahamut's brain.

The Larvitar stumbles forward in a daze. He shakes his head in a frustrating effort to concentrate, but he manages to bump into Arainami in his confused clumsiness. Arainami pulls back in surprise, but now she has pinpointed Bahamut's location. Calling upon her water elemental powers, she focuses on the moisture surrounding her for an even more powerful attack. Bahamut bravely fights against his headache, trying to concentrate on his move. Pebbles and sand levitate from the ground around him and quickly solidify into sharp, diamond-shaped rocks. Grabbing them from the air, Bahamut throws them forward into the flurry of sand. Although the sand does not sting his eyes, he still cannot see the Buizel very well, much to his annoyance. Arainami chortles mockingly as some of the rocks hurtle past her harmlessly, until several rocks graze painfully across her yellow flotation sac. In anger, she releases the her wave of water at Bahamut. The Larvitar yelps painfully, his body buffeted by an onslaught of muddy water. He nearly drowns as he flails about in the sloshing sand, but, to his relief, the water becomes shallow again as the wave finishes its course.

Bahamut! Shake that headache out of your head and use another Sandstorm to strengthen the previous one! Then use Dragon Dance and then chill.

Let's make this simple.
Rain Dance again to help get the nasty sand out of here, then Aqua Jet him. Last off, don't you want that cute little Lavitar to have troble attacking you? And you are so cute. Use an Attract on him!

Round Two: End

Bahamut glares furiously at the ground, a muddy expanse of dark soil. At least the rocky surface of the giant Golem's armor plates is the least affected; the Larvitar inwardly shudders at the idea of jumping into the cracks, where the water and mud sluggishly flow like streams. Arainami appears surprised at the mess the weather conditions she and her opponent created, but she nevertheless plunges into another dance routine. Spots of mud dab her whiskers and body, splashed up by her whirling dance. Pawprints dot the ground in symmetrical fashion, matching the natural harmony within her footsteps. The clouds above grow dense, taking on a dark gray as they gather above the arena.

In fierce competition, the Larvitar uses his willpower to summon another Sandstorm. Fiercely willing the wind to come, he scarcely even looks at his dancing opponent. Soon, a decent amount of sand begins to fly into the air, but not as much as before. Bahamut begins to feel the strain as he tries to bring up more sand; his headache, before a seemingly distant echo, now starts to pulse painfully within his head. Even so, the residual sand the wind picks up batters into Arainami in the midst of her dance. Her eyes stinging from the sand, she loses her balance once she takes a step into one of the cracks and trips.

Arainami gives a high-pitched, distressed yelp as she crashes into the hard floor. Her ankle throbs with pain, but she knows she needs to deal with greater problems. Her tails whip the air in anticipation. The Buizel coughs softly as she begins to gurgle up water in her throat. Meanwhile, she can faintly make out the dark shape of Bahamut behind the sand moving to his own rhythm in a Dragon Dance. The Larvitar takes on a mystical grace as he whirls through the movements of his battle dance. Arainami turns around, her tails now pointing in the Larvitar's direction. Releasing her throatful of water, she propels herself against the hard ground to finally knock into Bahamut.

With a Buizel now sitting on him, Bahamut is sorely tempted to disobey his trainer and take a good swipe at his opponent. However, he continues to lie on the ground, occasionally shifting his position to make himself more comfortable. Meanwhile, Arainami makes a huge show out of herself; she leaps off Bahamut as if electrocuted and stares into his eyes apologetically, batting her eyelashes at Bahamut. Normally she would never consider the reptilian Pokemon her "type" in any way, but she convincingly and delicately smiles at the Larvitar, while her tails rhythmically sway side to side. The Larvitar surprises himself when he realizes that he wants to get closer to his opponent. Forgetting himself for a moment, he leaps to his feet and contemplates how to woo the Buizel back.

Round Three: Begin

The arena begins to shift sickeningly beneath the two competitors' feet. Bahamut, forgetting for a moment his infatuation with Arainami, clings fearfully to one of the scattered rocks. Arainami's ears perk up in curiosity, and she too decides to clamber up Bahamut's boulder for safety. To Bahamut's dismay, the large rock itself begins shift ever so slowly. As he peers over the edge of his precarious perch, his eyes widen at the sight of lava. A flood of burning molten rock rushes over the arena, absorbing the remains of the Golem body in its throes. Blasts of fire explode in the near distance, like miniature volcanoes. The Buizel herself also feels frightened; however, she stubbornly glares at the boiling lava beneath her boulder. The light rain continues to fall upon the arena, although it has little effect now, each drop sizzling into vapor just a few inches above the lava. The sandstorm begins to wane as well, as there is little sand upon the arena available for the wind to pick up.

Bahamut gets a warm and soupy feeling inside, his mind drifting off to romantic fantasies about the object of his affections stuck with him in the midst of danger. Opposite him, Arainami focuses her energies on creating a duplicate clone. The gusts of sand and water are less distracting now, much weaker than before. The second Buizel materializes close to her, gamboling up the boulder. Bahamut's bright orange, admiring eyes gaze at the Buizel's determined, taut pose; he is more than willing to try a Captivate on Arainami. The Larvitar poses dramatically in front of Arainami. He deliberately skirts the haughty glance of her Substitute, flashing his bright green scales in the real Buizel's face. The glow of the lava casts an eerie glow upon the orange diamond on his chest, and his eyes, both fierce and caring, stare intently into Arainami's.

The Buizel appears surprised, now starting to reconsider her previous dismissal of the Larvitar. Her eyes glance upon the immaculate condition of his body, the confidence that emanates from his expression. Bahamut, now certain of his relationship status with Arainami, feels more than happy to just stay in place rather than attack. He relaxes in place, ignoring Manaphy Driftrider's order to Double Team. Seeing the soppy expression on the Larvitar's face, Arainami grins in amusement but is secretly tempted to do the same, to happily and thoughtlessly do nothing. However, she has a mission to fulfil. The Buizel's right paw begins to glow brightly, white energy rippling over her closed fist. Pouring energy and concentration into the move, she ignores the Larvitar's staring as she prepares her attack.

Vaguely remembering his trainer's command, the Larvitar reluctantly slips out of his reverie to perform a Stone Edge. As the dry debris from the lava levitates upwards, forming sharp, knifelike rocks, he starts to reconsider his attack, feeling guilty for being so cruel to the Buizel. Then, as he carefully gathers up his rock elemental energy, he suddenly notices the glowing flash of light streaming into his peripheral vision. Arainami bares her teeth in a wide, nasty smile as she releases her fist in a powerful Focus Punch. Her paw smacks into Bahamut's side with unparalleled force. Shocked by his perceived lover's actions, he lets go of the rock. The scalding lava furiously scorches his skin, leaving a black streak on the lime green ridge at his back. Scrambling back onto the boulder, his wide eyes reflect his inner turmoil of shock and guilt.

Round Four: Begin

The sizzling heat of the arena is starting to nauseate Arainami, whose furry, slick body is built for cooler climes. The Buizel gladly takes the chance to relax, letting her shoulders drop and her breath slow. Her clone slouches near her perch on the top of the rock, wearing a slightly bored expression. Meanwhile, Bahamut is still caught in his moral dilemma. He feels profound guilt for trying to harm the Buizel, yet a nagging suspicion buzzes in the back of his mind like an annoying insect. Caught up in his inner debate, the Larvitar's expression grows into a doubtful, confused look.

Realizing that he had just neglected his first order, the Larvitar hastily kicks up a vibration in his body, figuring that a Double Team would not affect his relationship with Arainami. Multiple illusory Larvitars begin to materialize on the rock, amounting to five clones in total. Arainami nearly slips off the rock in surprise, singing the tips of her tails in the burning lava. She quickly regains her composure when she notices the identical, soppy love-struck expressions- there was probably still a good chance that they would not attack her, she reasons. For another action, the Buizel chills out on the rock.

Threads of dark energy weave through her white teeth as the Buizel opens her jaws wide for her next attack. Bahamut, still struggling with his decision, hesitantly summons the shards of knifelike rocks. Arainami, being the faster, quickly decides to clamp her mouth on the nearest clone. The tendrils of dark energy dissolve into insubstantial wisps, and the image of the Larvitar flickers into oblivion. Her expression sours to one of dissatisfaction and disappointment. Bahamut's doubt rises again; now, mentally, he entertains the possibility of betraying Arainami. He flings the Stone Edge at the Buizel on an instinctive whim. Suddenly, the Substitute leaps in the way of the stones. She flares her tails and floatation sac to catch the rocks, while her sinuous body floats in mid-air for a split second. The rocks slash deep gashes in the fragile construct's body, and the clone dissolves into thin air. The remaining rocks clatter into the lava with small splashes, while Arainami remains safely behind.

Round Five: Begin

To the two competitors' surprise, the sea of lava begins to undulate. The several Bahamuts cling for dear life to the rough boulder, the two lowest one scrabbling upwards in order to avoid the rolling lava. The glowing red of the lava dims in color, and leafy shoots and grass spring up from the ground. Throwing the competitors' boulder dangerously to the side, a gigantic tree wrestles its way through the hardening ground. Arainami ducks just in time as tree branches extend just above her head, while another stray branch spears one of the fake Larvitars. Verdant plant life abounds almost instantaneously in the arena, accompanied by the shrieks and calls of wild Pokemon swinging above.

Clambering off the lopsided boulder, the remaining four Larvitars gaze warily at the Buizel. A twisted bramble bush surrounds their back, the blue sky can no longer be seen under the massive canopy of the Torterra's tree. The comforting prescence of solid ground strengthens Bahamut's resolve; he is almost certain now that Arainami does not reciprocate his feelings. He takes a defensive stance on the ground, crushing the grass leaves beneath his feet, and begins to vibrate rapidly. Meanwhile, Arai peers at each Larvitar in turn. Emitting a gurgling noise from her throat, the Buizel forms an O shape with her mouth and spits a thin, steadily gushing stream of water from her mouth. Just as three distinct shapes begin to diverge from the blurred forms of the four Larvitars, Arainami's Water Gun sweeps across the crowd. Two of the Larvitars, as well as some of the indistinct shapes in between, shimmer into nothingness, fading into the forest background, leaving their three comrades standing stunned behind them.

Bahamut winces inwardly at the prospect of getting hit by more water. Including himself, only three Larvitars stand in the Buizel's way, with only a few feet between them. From his peripheral vision, he warily notes his postion among the clones, wondering where his weakest spot was. Resuming his movement, the forms of the three Larvitars grow fuzzy again in another Double Team. Arainami gargles up another mouthful of water. Her brown cheeks bulge comically, but her narrowed eyes show her seriousness. Spitting the water out, she easily clears out the clones, with only such a small distance between them. The burst of water burns the real Bahamut's skin. Shielding his face with an arm, he grimaces in mild discomfort. The rest of the Larvitars fade away into the background, leaving behind only puddles of muddy water.

The bush behind Bahamut emits several deep, disgruntled grunts. The Larvitar jumps forward instinctively, jolted momentarily by the unexpected noise. Something of a twinkle shines in Arainami's eyes; the amused Buizel barks mockingly at Bahamut's antics. Looking rather disconcerted and irritable, Bahamut holds back his anger for now, sitting down on the dirt for a short break. As if on cue, Arainami also lies belly-down on the ground. Glancing around at the scenery around her, she watches her opponent lazily. Noticing his eyes, no longer goopily staring at him in infatuation, she feels a twinge of regret, but, all in all, she feels more bored than truly disappointed.

Pre-Round

Manaphy Driftrider and Ketsu sat on rocks at the ends of the battlefield, feeling quite bored. Where is their referee? Their referee had muttered something about SATs (is that a disease?) and ran off somewhere. Now they can’t continue their battle… Just when the trainers and their Pokemon were about to give up and leave, they heard a scream.

A Linoone, running on two legs and carrying two red referee flags in under her arms, ran out of the forest, chased by… A Hoothoot? The owl Pokemon cawed loudly and pecked at the Linoone, before fluttering back into the forests. The Linoone shook herself and stood back on the referee’s stand. “Well, I will be reffing this battle now, since Keta seemed to have disappeared… Ahem. Right. Round five – I mean six – start!” The Linoone waved her referee flags.

The trainers shrugged to themselves. At least someone’s reffing their battle, even if that person (or Pokemon) is a newbie referee.

Round 6 Start

The ground started to shift beneath the Pokemon’s feet. Bahamut groaned to himself. He really didn’t like this stupid shifting battle ground. The Larvitar preferred stable grounds; he was getting a little sea sick from all the shifting and moving. Bahamut felt the dirt beneath his feet get warmer and warmer… The surprised Larvitar leapt back onto the large boulder he was holding onto before. Arainami, too, yelped in surprise and scrambled on to a rock, cringing at the pain in her ankle. The two Pokemon watched in fear as the ground seemed to turn to liquid, glowing bright red and sizzling. Grass and the trees caught on fire, and slowly sank down into the lava. Soon, there was nothing left on the ground but roaring, red-hot molten rock.

Arainami growled, cursing her fate. It would have been better if the ground turned to a Golem or something. However, life’s life, and at least the lava would give an interesting twist to the battle. The Buizel stood up on her hind legs and started to dance. Swinging her tail around, the otter started to do crazy aerobatic tricks – flipping backwards, dancing on one foot… Just when Bahamut was starting to think the Buizel was crazy, rainclouds started to gather overhead. Thunder roared, lightning flashed, and rain started to pour from the sky. The coldness of the rain combated with the heat from the lava, and the heat won; the rain evaporated before it even hit the ground, covering the whole battlefield with a thick cloud of steam.

Bahamut, in turn, closed his eyes. He was a bit bothered by the fact that he couldn’t see the Buizel, but since that otter was doing some crazy dance anyway, he figured that he was safe. The Larvitar focused his energy, and sand and small bits rocks started to gather around him. At first, there were only a thin cloud, but the sandstorm soon got bigger and bigger. The whirling winds blew away the steam and the rain, and the rough sand battered the Buizel, almost knocking her off her rock.

<Bahamut: -0HP -4E> <Arainami: -3HP -4E>

Although it was bright and sunny outside, it seemed like night in the whirling sandstorm. Arainami squinted, trying to see through the thick cloud of sand. Her ankle throbbed painfully, and the heat didn’t help, either. Better be safe than sorry… Since her trainer probably knows what’s going on more than she does… The Buizel focused, and a glowing white dome of energy surrounded her. The sandstorm smashed at the dome but couldn’t get in, the wall of energy protecting Arainami from attacks. Good thing the Buizel didn’t put up her defence later, as Bahamut leapt off the boulder he was standing on and, jaws open wide, tried to bite the Buizel. However, the only thing the Larvitar got his teeth on was a mouthful of sand as he crashed into the dome of energy. Bahamut picked himself up and glared at Arainami, who was grinning evilly inside the Protect. Honestly, a Protect? That Buizel was starting to piss him off more and more.

<Bahamut: -0HP -7E> <Arainami: -0HP -7E>

Now that Bahamut was standing on the same rock as she was, her next attack would be much easier. Arainami dropped her protective energy wall and extracted water from her glands in the back of her throat. Then, she shot the water backwards while leaping forward at the same time. For a split second, the Buizel seemed to disappear, as the burst of water propelled her forward like a rocket towards the Larvitar. However, much of her momentum was lost when the water blast evaporated by the heat of the lava, and Arainami crashed into the Larvitar in a feeble Aqua Jet attack.

Bahamut had thought that Arainami was going to fire a blast of water at him, he really did. However, what actually happened was something along the lines of a wet tackle; not enough to do much damage, but the water bit at his skin like acid. The Larvitar growled, annoyed, and focused again. The ground rumbled, and bits of lava levitated into the air, solidifying into sharp rocks. The rocks shot towards the Buizel, ripping her fur apart with their sharp edges. Arainami hissed in pain as she felt the rocks, still hot, dig into her skin. She leapt away from the Larvitar, trying to dodge the flying rock shards, and almost stumbled into the lava pit below. She couldn’t see the lava from where she was standing; the raging sandstorm was blocking her vision. Her ankle still throbbed, but it was, slightly, better than before.
