Garden [Pokémon]


Hello~ 8D Welcome to Garden, masterminded by myself and my milkshakebuddy Arylett Dawnsborough. I haven't roleplayed here very much at all because not many of the roleplays seem particularly serious, so I decided to try at a deeper, more in-depth roleplay. So here's a very random idea me and Arylett came up with.

Since I'm very inexperienced with TCoD roleplays, I've just gone with what I think a roleplay's first post needs... uh, if I've mucked anything up, do tell me.


Garden's population is estimated at around 1,000 Pokémon, and is one of the largest Pokémon civilisations in the current age (which is before trainers 'existed'; basically, there are no humans anyone has ever seen). It is a Pokémon equivalent of a miniature city, a mixture of nature and structures. The land is vast and Garden is the only 'civilisation' for great distances, although Pokémon do live outside the city's boundaries in this area.

As Pokémon without trainers are somewhat less civilised, it doesn't really look much like a modern human-created city at all. Pokémon have used the landscape to create building-like creations, however, and things like makeshift gates and other things to help keep order and to live in; basically, anyone is allowed to build anywhere, as the city is more growing and sprawling than having an exact shape. For the sake of roleplay, just consider it a Pokémon-only populated city with natural Pokémon limitations.


Twelve years ago, there was no Garden.

Pokemon were largely unorganised and on the whole, uncivilised. In a land without trainers... well, one can only imagine what such a place would be like.

Because of their stupidity, and of knowing nothing else to do, wars ruled the lands. Fighting was all in a Pokemon's mind - other than surviving and breeding, there was nothing more natural. But wars created chaos, and many led sad lives filled with violence and sorrow. If you found a consistent way to live, you were lucky. Happiness was more often than not a brief, rare luxury.

But there were those who disliked the wars. Some tried to stop it, the braver ones - but only the clever ones, who did not try to stop the fighting, lived. One day, a young Pokemon decided something - the decision that would change the lives of some forever. She decided to leave.

There had to be a world out there. Something more. She hadn't been brought up in particularly unusual circumstances; like many others, her parents had tried their hardest simply to enable their child to live, in hope that by carrying on their family, one day a descendant might finally grow up in a better place.

Confident and ambitious - a young, bold Mightyena, Arkra, managed to convince many others to join her, and she gained many followers. Some simply wanted something to believe in, others saw the truth in her words - they had to leave. Many others were bitter about the ideas, as families were torn apart through clashing decisions.

She became a leader for the people she could convince, a group of about forty or so from the area in which she lived - she was disappointed she could not take more, but she couldn't change their minds. Most of her followers were young and full of deprived energy; amongst the old remaining were her parents, not having the hope of youth. But time was running out, as Pokemon currently in power of the land had heard of her plight and were reportedly on their way to quash those who had such differing ideas.

Arkra led them all away. The journey took many months, and they endured harsh winters and many troubles and deaths of those who could not go on any further. The strongest and bravest began rising in respect and power. The idea of 'ranks' were decided, a very out-there idea. Among them was Tiraz, who soon became Arkra's second-in-command, known for his fair decisions and love for peace. Although it was hard changing the ideas that had been implanted in their brains since they were born in such an oppressed world, Tiraz and other high-ranking Pokemon under Arkra's rule managed to keep everyone happy.

Eventually they came across a beautiful land far away. It was basically empty, yet vast and inviting. Joyous at their find, Arkra and the group of - now around thirty - began making homes for themselves and creating new life. Their peaceful intentions brought about intelligence forming that had always been there, but had always been pressured into near nonexistance - the country was named 'Garden', derived from a paradise from children's stories. Under the people's idealism and creativity, life was soon prosperous.

For years everyone lived under Arkra's beloved rule. The few that had impressed her on the journey settled down into normal life as well, although still held some rank and managed to keep everything settled. Families grew, even places that could be called small 'villages' were formed as numbers grew.


After a long while of happiness, the more intelligent of Garden's citizens debated whether Garden could always remain as peaceful as it always had been. It certainly seemed... well, too good to be true. What turned out to be mere rumour soon came about to be true, as Arkra's rule began to change. Over the years, the Mightyena had grown so accustomed to power that she developed a hunger for it, and started distancing herself from the kingdom she had taken such care in helping create. She preferred to be seen by few, and made less public appearances. Her circle of trusted advisors dwindled to a much smaller number.

Soon she began doing very strange things. Rules were created that were harsher than what she might normally have decided, and often made little sense. Laws became stricter, and the death sentence for things like stealing was brought back. The once peaceful nation was deteriorating.

Some claim that she has become insane - so power-hungry that she can no longer see sense. A group of Knights - basically guardians, helping to police Garden - tentatively tried to make her see reason, stop these things happening. But Arkra would not listen to them. She lashed out at them, proclaiming them traitors. All the guard were punished, and Arkra might have given them death in her rage, had she been unable to remember the good times they all had - as most of them had come to Garden with her. She remembered their bravery and for a moment felt too compassionate to kill them. So they were merely demoted and kicked back out onto the streets. The group were bitter for losing their jobs, and some of them felt angry towards Tiraz, a Jolteon who had convinced them all to help stop her. They went back to their families, trying to find new jobs.

But a few of them hadn't lost their strong feelings. Arkra was still controlling the nation, and was still slowly ruining it. The population had decreased a lot since the death penalty, known as the Final Punishment had come back. People were being punished for things they would have been forgiven for. Arkra had changed. They all remembered when she had been youthful and just... had they not noticed something, not noticed what she could become? Perhaps nobody should be allowed power.

Gradually, the kingdom is forming into two sides. There are those who agree with Arkra, that Garden should become stronger and reed out the weak and the criminals. There are those who admire their 'noble' leader. But there are also those - most of them former Knights, some of them still living and serving in Arkra's castle, trying to disobey her orders when possible.

What will Garden become, now that it is changing? Will it split, will Arkra destroy those who oppose her, the small but growing band of citizens who revolt? Or will they manage to change Garden? Either way, it is unlikely it will be easy, and blood may be shed...


The Rebels

Group size: Officially around fifty; growing.
Current Members (played at TCoD): 5

~~~ Rebels consist of those who have decided to openly follow Tiraz and go against Arkra. Rebels are only those who openly follow him, remember, citizens that just believe in some of Tiraz's ideas but either do not dare go against the generally accepted views of following Arkra out of fear, or simply do not want to. Rebels often meet with each other and discuss tactics of how to remain hidden. Rebels that are too open, especially in public places, face possible imprisonment and definite punishment. The Rebels' goal is eventually to try and make Arkra see reason, although some believe open fighting is the only way to make anything happen. ~~~

* Important Members *

Tiraz - A Jolteon who formerly belonged to Arkra's Court as a Knight of Garden. He was one of the Pokémon who travelled to Garden with Arkra, being one of her trusted advisors, and friend. Because of his 'ideas', he has always had a casually argumentative relationship with Arkra, although they have always been close until recently. He founded the Rebels and is their current leader.

The Rebels currently need members of all types: founding members that were formerly Knights, newer members, etc.

Arkra's Court

Group size: Around fifty.
Current Members (played at TCoD): 7

~~~ Members of Arkra's Court come in many shapes and sizes. Because any citizen can apply to live in the castle and serve Arkra if they prove themselves worthy enough, most of her court will believe she is just. They include the current Knights, Arkra's Advisors, but also workers and those of near-royal status (for example, relatives of Arkra or her closest advisors). Arkra's Court is rumoured to have spies to keep an eye out for the also rumoured Rebels, or any citizen who shows a rebellious nature. ~~~

* Important Members *

Arkra - A Mightyena who is the current leader of Garden. She founded and created the civilisation that it is today, and is the individual responsible for convincing Pokémon to leave their former 'country'. Those that can remember the 'old Arkra' remember a kind, idealistic Pokémon.

* What's Needed? *

The Court currently needs members of all types: advisors of Arkra, current Knights that have not been demoted, and also workers in the castle (servants, cooks, etc.).

Citizens of Garden

Group size: Around 800-900.
Current Members (played at TCoD): 0

~~~ Citizens of Garden here do not mean anyone who lives in Garden - it means everyone who does not belong to the Rebels or Arkra's Court. They can include normal citizens. ~~~

None as of yet. Important Citizens would include citizens who are important but do not belong to either of the other groups.

* What's Needed? *

Citizens are important too! Any citizen is needed. Use your creativity. Remember, citizens can believe a group is right, they just do not necessarily openly belong to one.

Court Advisors: Court Advisors are currently accepted. They are Arkra's closest, and it is very unlikely any of them have any form of rebellious thought. Some are as harsh as her, others perhaps plain evil. Usually they help Arkra with her decisions and they all live in the castle.

Knights of Garden: Knights are the guardians of Garden. They are adept at fighting and are usually extremely strong and well-respected. Many Knights have been around since the founding of Garden unless they have retired.

ALIGNMENT: No official alignment. Vast majority are Arkra's Court.

Rebel Members: The Rebels are the small group who believe in the 'old Garden' and strive to change it back. Generally they are citizens, but only the most skilled Rebels can live normally in Garden because of their loud beliefs. Life for Rebels is usually rough as they must keep their identity hidden.

• Age: Garden first became a civilisation around twenty years ago, so remember this when you put your character's age. Pokémon in this age die naturally at around forty years old - bit of creative license here since ages and death and all that is a bit up in the air with Pokémon.
• Species: Pokémon, that is. All are allowed, but please remember that since levels are not known by Pokémon, if the species evolves, you'll have to use common sense. No Charizard kids.

Personality: Tiraz believes firmly in his morals. Honour means a lot to him, which is the reason he first followed Arkra. Tiraz is compassionate and bold, although this can sometimes lead him into trouble -

Compassionate, headstrong and bold. Tiraz believes firmly in his morals, and honour means a lot to him - to see someone hurt in Garden deeply affects him because although he is much of a fighter, he fights primarily for peace. His stubborn and impulsive nature gets things done, and his speed and quick mind is probably the reason he managed to form the Rebels; however, leading them now is something he needs to get a handle on.

Tiraz is generally rather outspoken and although he gets embarrassed easily, he was always the proud speechmaker in his youth. He believes that there is at least some good in everyone and dislikes violence for the sake of violence. Although he is sympathetic and to an extent empathetic, he finds it difficult to see from others' perspectives and this is only more evidence towards his very black-and-white, good-and-evil philosophy.

History: Inspired by Arkra's boldness and her decision to help others find a better life, Tiraz threw away anything he could have made of himself at home and decided to join her. His parents were already dead, having had Tiraz quite old, and so he had made a name for himself by getting in a lot of trouble trying to convince others to strike back at oppression.

Tiraz became one of Arkra's most trusted allies, and became a Knight of Garden. However, when it was clear what was happening in Arkra's court, Tiraz once again tried to convince his allies that Arkra had changed. He was regretful, not quite believing that Arkra could be evil, and so he believes that the Rebels he founded should not use violence as a means of retrieving Garden's peaceful status.

Personality: She is a dark, quiet person. She agrees with Arka on almost every decision. She seems to love bloodshed and death. She barely speaks and can use telepathy to a degree. (I know, it's short, I'll add if i need to but most of it will be explained in her history)
History: Her mother was a Ninetales named Kigama and her father was an Arcanine named Quotro. Pokemon were against different species love (What would be the term for that?) and they were shocked when they found out about Kigama and Qutro loving each other and even having a child. When Lyghtias was five, tradegy struck. One of her dad's companions, Leorono, a Rhydon, came in her den with a gang of Pokemon and her parents were murdered in the assault that occured. After that, she did not speak for several years. She learned the art of telepathy from an Abra named Azina. She then used telepathy to drive the pokemon that killed her parents insane (By this, I mean literally drive them insane).

When Garden was founded, she joined the court so that the Pokemon wouldn't fight that much. She didn't want the same thing to happen to anyone else. For once in sveral years, she was happy. When Arka turned darker, Lyghtias old personality unearthed itself. To punish people, she would use her telepathy she hadn't used since just after the murder to drive people to the brink of suicide.

Information: A paladin is a knight who is also skilled in white magic. Is basicly a fighter and healer.

Personality: He is a very serious person. He follows orders without question and does not hesitate to protect his queen. No matter the cost.
History: Glade came to garden after it was established and decided that it was here he would make his home. He joined the knights because he wanted to aid the queen who so graciously let him live in her city.

Whoa, this is probably my darkest character as of now. Which frankly isn't saying all that much.

Personality: To put it simply, Ami is absolutely twisted and quite possibly insane. While she is (usually) rebellious by nature, Ami is much more stealthy and secretive than most Rebels. She has a sort of split personality depending on who she is with, changing between a quiet, mindless citizen to an outspoken rebel ready to attack Arka herself within seconds. When she isn't using a fake personality, Ami is short tempered and prone to getting into arguments. Just as often, she's quiet and caring, while fiercely loyal to the rebel leaders. In short, Ami will often change her whole personality to avoid getting in trouble or being caught by spies or the like. The one thing that doesn't really change is that Ami knows Arka is wrong, and the Rebels are doing the right thing, even if she is saying the opposite.
History: Ami's parents (Two Leafeons) came with Arka's group when she was very small. Even though she was so young, to survive the fighting (Even between family members) she had already started acting the way she currently does, drastically changing her demeanor in order to please everyone nearby. This was the only thing she knew, and the only way to survive. They left when she was five, but the damage was already done. When they arrived to Garden, Ami's parents used their abilities as Leafeons to created trees bent over the ground and covered in vines to make their home. It is still the same as before, but was partially flooded in the center after Ami's evolution. They lived there happily and Ami seemed to improve, apparently permanently becoming the sweet little Eevee she should have been. Her parents were very rebellious when Arka changed. One night her mother took her away and hid her behind a few other "houses" while she slept. Being moved around during the night had become relatively common recently, and Ami never even woke up, never quite understanding or caring why this happened. It became a sort of game, finding her way back home in the morning. When she went home again, her parents were gone. Ami was extremely depressed and hate everything, never leaving her home for days while she cried or sulked. To all other Pokemon, she seemed to have disappeared as well as her parents. Finally, she attempted to drown herself in a nearby lake, and was about to succeed before accidentally touching a water stone and evolving. She went home again and stayed there for a while, before emerging as her old self before the Garden. She now lives by herself, and joined the Rebels recently.

Personality: Shaba is playful and is never above a nice joke. She tries to weave humor into anything, even death and torture. She doesn't seek to hurt anyone through her antics, however, and is never above apologizing. She is also somewhat aloof (...that means off in space (figuratively) right?) and constantly forgets what she's supposed to be doing.
History: Shaba is a young relative of Arkra. Although she is younger than Arkra (...riiiiight?) she still remembers how she used to be caring. She was among the original group of Knights (well, she was in-training anyway) who tried to get Arkra to her old self again, and despite being a relative, was still thrown out.

Rank: Erm... I suppose rebel?
Group: Rebels
Personality: She is very mysterious, she doesn't enjoy the company of others. She keeps her emotions hidden, preferring to seem stoic. She rather enjoys beating the -bleep- out of others. She doesn't form close bonds with anyone, and is a very rational thinker. She's very organized and always prepared, and gets annoyed when others aren't. She is very much a big-picture thinker, and is skilled at stealth and reconnaissance (recon).
History: Growing up in a time of war, she was orphaned at a young age. Thus, she learned quickly how to take care of herself. She's always been a loner, keeping to herself. She wasn't actually supposed to go with Arkra when they left for new lands due to her young age, but she followed them and by the time they discovered her it was too late to send her back. She had respected Arkra for a long time, but having seen firsthand her cruelty, she is greatly opposed to her rule now.
Other information: Doesn't really live with the rebels (I assume they have some sort of secret base?) but rather lives on her own in the surrounding area and helps them when needed.

Personality: Playful, he can be very immature at times. But he can also be very serious. He likes to help people out, and also likes puzzling and trivial things. He's unorganized and is VERY impatient, and hates when people tease him. However, he teases others regularly, but has been gradually been breaking out of that shell. He is also slightly hyper (some say he has ADHD) and sometimes bounces around everywhere randomly.
History: Oof was born in Garden, and his parents were one of the first settlers to the town. His mom (a Dragonair) disappeared one day, and his dad (a Charizard) died trying to find her, being found in a nearby forest dead. Many suspect his mom has died since. That was 8 years ago, and Oof had lived with his grandma and grandpa, but they also died 6 months alter, and he was taken to the castle to work there. He is very adept at doing menial work, and so became a servant to Arkra.

Personality: Very bouncy and baby-like. Duh, her being a baby.
History: When she was just born, her father brought her a Water Stone. Because she evolved being a newborn, she was very small and kept her Eevee mane somehow. her parents were killed soon after, and Tiraz took her in(if that's allright).

Personality: She is always unsure of things, and it's hard for her to make up her mind. Once she does, though, there is no changing it. Violet is often enthusiastic, enjoying what she does. She never backs down from challenges, and loves pushing herself. She often knows when to stop, though, and is aware of her physical condition. She is very respectful and loyal to Arkra, defending her leader with her life. Violet tries her best not to offend her leader.
History: She had a perilous life, always running away. She hated fleeing, so when she became a Beedrill and lived on her own, she never gave up or backed down. She was almost glad when she became a Kakuna, because it meant no moving around; she could just use Harden. As a Beedrill, she is very brave.

Group: Arkra's Court
Personality: Cyrano is very adamant and charming. He's brave and persistent. When faced with a problem, he thinks through it carefully if there's time. Cyrano is protective and jumps in front when his allies are faced with a strong attack. He can deliver ruthless bites himself, and almost never lets go. Others have compared him to a Croconaw because of this. If angry he attacks fiercely, so it's best to stay on his good side. He's normally happy and calm, and stops to admire things that make things better. He can make friends with others, but half of the time the other Pokemon is intimidated by his fangs. If he could only get a friend or two, he'd probably be better off...
History: As a Snubbull, Cyrano was often teased and taunted because of his tiny fangs. He was furious, but could at most bark at the other Pokemon. He was very weak and could not fight, so used loud, low sound to attack the opponent's ears. Once he evolved (no one knows how), he was respected due to the unusually large size of his fangs. His voice remains deep to this day.

Hmm... this looks interesting. My only worry is that I'm not up to the expectations.

Personality: Bitil is nasty, vicious, and prone to violent outburst when he gets angry- and these outbursts involve throwing something at a solid object. When not in these violent outbursts, he shows surprisingly little emotion, and comes off as a "neutral" being- though just underneath that neutral shell, an explosion is always simmering, waiting for the smallest action to set Bitil off.
History: Bitil was in the group that went with Arkra and discovered the Garden. At the time, he was a very calm, reasonable pokemon. Shortly before the garden was found, Bitil encountered a Xatu, and that encounter- little is known about it other than Bitil looking at the Xatu's chest eyes- is what caused Bitil to snap. Once the Garden had been discovered, Bitil "vanished" and wasn't seen until a Knight found him... or he found and attacked the Knight. Though Bitil was defeated in that breif skirmish, the Knight saw potential in him and made him one of their own.

Personality: Generally quiet, very shy when meeting new pokemon, but very loyal if you can earn his trust. He is normally happy, but sometimes this makes him a pinch unrealistic. He tends to wonder about things, and often acts sort of nosy. He feels he needs to train, but also feels he never has enough time for everything, so he often resorts to chatting with others, helping them out, or taking a quick nap, which he does a bit too often, which is partially responsible for his perpetual lack of time..(all I can think of... sorry, I hope this is good!)
History:Enyel finally decided that the citizens should be able to impeech the leader if they deemed him/her corrupt. So he joined the rebels to try and stop it, he would love to make some new friends within the rebels, having lost all his when joining. His parents quietly support him, too scared to act. He joined the rebels a few days(5ish, 8ish) ago(is this long enough?)
Other information: He loves collecting rocks, looking for "perfect" stones wherever he goes.
