As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

One-Shot Bitter Tea

Minnow

If you're gonna dig, dig to the heavens!
I don't know what this is. I just had an image of a guy looking out a window drinking tea and went from there. So, um, comments and criticisms?

Sip.

Recoiling slightly, he set his tea back onto its saucer. He hadn’t expected it to be quite so hot; it usually wasn’t. Making a mental note to reprimand his chef later, he blew slightly into the cup, raising it to his lips.

Sip.

Strange, it didn’t seem to be his usual flavor, although he couldn’t quite place how it was different. It was interesting, to say the least

Sip.

No, he definitely disliked this new flavor. There was something unexpectedly odd about it. And it was much too bitter.

Sighing, he lowered the cup to his lap, his gaze shifting to the window in front of him. A dreary sky loomed over the streets below, where the traffic was at a near standstill. He was glad that he did not have to count himself among the general populous, who had to endure the torture of commuting every day. No, he was very happy staying at home for most days, where he could work in peace.

A low chime sounded off in the distance, breaking him out of his thoughts. He focused again, more intently now, on the crowded streets. Nothing out of the ordinary appeared at the moment, but he knew that could change instantly.

There, his eyes focused on a small store on a street corner, where several figures were busy shattering the building’s large front windows. More people joined in, bursting into the shop, ready to claim a share of the items. He now saw several police cars racing towards the robbery.

Fools.

A small crowd began to gather around the building, watching, but standing far clear of the thieves. Not quite as many people as he was expecting, but they would have to do. There were only so many people such an event could attract.

It suddenly came to him that he had not completely informed his ‘robbers’ of the exact nature of their operation. No matter, perhaps next time. They were fairly vital to his plan, but it’s not as if he actually cared about what happened to them after they’d finished. And anyway, now he didn’t have to pay them as much.

The low chime rang once again, and with this he began to count slowly. There were only a few seconds left, and he did not want to miss his chance to prove his theories, as he had last time.

8…

The police had arrived at the scene by now, and were in the process of apprehending the robbers. They seemed to be surprised by how little they resisted. He made another mental note to reinforce the acting roles during the next briefing.

7...

Now the robbers were all cuffed and inside vehicles, and the few, trivial items were returned to the store owners. Not that it mattered.

6…

He was slightly annoyed that a few people were beginning to leave the scene. He had had barely enough people there in the first place.

5…

And now the real excitement began. The anticipation, the planning, it all came down to these last few seconds.

4…

A sudden, horrible screech resounded throughout the streets. Although it was just bearable to him, he was sure the people in the streets were in terrible pain. A quick glance at the crowds appeared to confirm this; people were holding their heads and many had begun to run in circles.

3…

Now…

A blinding light suddenly filled the area, enveloping cars, people, and buildings within a block of the robbery. The screech had stopped, and now an eerie silence filled the streets, seeming to be nothing but a white fog.

2…

And now, with the light beginning to fade, he closed his eyes.

1…

Patiently, he waited.

0…

He opened his eyes to a picture of pure chaos. A whole blocks-worth of buildings, including the people, were completely gone, with nothing left but bedrock. The remaining people were, understandably, in a complete panic. Everywhere he looked they were either running and screaming, or just staring in awe at the missing block.

He turned away from the window. This was interesting. Not exactly what he had intended, but interesting nonetheless. Yes, it was very interesting.

“Hm,”

Sip.

It was still too bitter.
