Yeah, just a thread to discuss games in the Tales of... series. It's kinda self-explanatory, but if there's anything ya'll want to discuss about a particular game, or the series itself, Ah s'pose this'll do.

Anyways, got some some news concerning the new Escort title, Tales of VS, and the PS3make of Tales of Vesperia...

For Tales of VS, Farah and Caius have been announced, and following a leak on Amazon.com last week, involving a picture of 4 Tales characters, two of which hadn't been announced yet, those two characters have been officially announced. Those are;

Kohak Hearts, the main heroine of Tales of Hearts (I prefer calling her Kohaku, it sounds more natural, and doesn't sound stupid like 'Kohak'), and Mint, the main heroine of Phantasia. I'm still hoping Hisui, or Raven make it in. But who knows, only 35 characters are supposed to be in, and there's only three more left to be announced.

The 2d minigame, Tales of Wallbreaker, is also going to be unlocked by playing through the Story. And some of the characters are obviously going to have to be unlocked. And there will also be Dual Mystic Artes, for when playing on teams. I'm really gonna have to get a new PSP so I can play (I screwed up the WLAN switch, and now I can't even play Phantasy Star Portable, or Monster Hunter over ad-hoc D= that means I also need to go through the trouble of hacking it again ;_; ) with my friends. I mean, I've still gotta play Dissidia with my friend (More like... Destroy him with my beastly Cecil and Butz, and my twice as beastly Terra and Squall.)

For Vesperia, they've announced a few new costume titles for Vesperia PS3; Yuri's Aloha Brother, Judith's Just Barely Black Bikini, and Rita's Casual Seaside Girl. The developers really don't make any attempt to hide the fact that Rita, Judith, and Yuri are their favorite.

I give all credit to this news to Tales Union, who're pretty much The Megaman Network of the Tales series. And as Tales Union said in their article, [URL"http://www.talesunion.com/news/tales-of-vs-two-more-characters-plus-enhanced-special-attacks--474.html"]here,[/URL] credit goes to throughhim413 of Absolute Zero Translations (Y'know, the guy working on the Tales of Innocence fanslation)for the scanslation. Still waiting for news on Graces.

...Gee, see how many times you can fit a word+'slation in one sentence...

EDIT: I gotta pay more attention to Abyssal Chronicles as well; new costumes have been announced for Flynn, Judith, and Karol; Judith gets a costume where she dresses as Rutee Katret from Tales of Destiny, and Karol gets the obvious Lloyd outfit. Flynn's is the Short Sleeved Prince title.

And two characters have been announced for Graces, Celia Burns, the red-headed female shown in trailers, who happens to be Asbel's servant, and also happens to have some feelings for Asbel, that she -Tell me you saw it coming- can't be honest to him with, and Hubert Ozwell, Suza-- I mean Asbel's younger brother. Guess this eliminates Sophie as a love interest, unless Graces uses a branching ending, with an affection rating like Star Ocean 2 and 3.. Maybe this'll quiet down all the troll on the GameFAQs board who've been calling Suzaku a pedo. Also, a Tales of Vesperia demo's being released on the Japanese Playstation Store on Monday. Looks like I've got something other than Cross Edge to keep me busy, till I get Disgaea 3.

Mint, the main heroine of Phantasia.
Nonono, the main heroin is Arche! D:

Man, I'm so outdated. There's a new mothership title in the making? What the hell, how could I've missed this?... Meh, Tales of Graces is a crappy title name. And I wish this franchise would stay on one damn system. Like Final Fantasy or Zelda. :/ Anyway, any idea when this Vesperia remake coming out? And how much are they changing (hoping they don't change the plot from the original).

Another question: discluding Vesperia from my list, because there's no way in hell I'm not getting that game, should I try out Legendia or Destiny first. Which one is better, story-wise?

As much as I love Tales, I haven't really been paying much attention to the new releases. Probably because I can't play any of the mothership titles released after Abyss. (and a few of the ones before it, too)

If I do ever end up with a Wii, though, Tales of Graces is a DO WANT. I want to see what's become of the FR-LMBS.

Mostly, I've been paying a lot of attention to the manga scanlations, more specifically the gaiden stories. I particularly liked Ion Gaiden and Peony Gaiden. Especially Peony Gaiden. It's not too often that you feel sympathy for a monarch NPC. Peony/Nephry OTP ♥ Wait, I thought my OTP was Ion/Anise...

On a similar note, Wings of an Angel and Buusagi released Reminisces of Jade not too long ago. I'm not the only one here that's read it, am I? ._.

Legendia's cheesy as hell (obnoxiously so at times) and has a clunky battle system, but has decent graphics and beautiful music. Destiny's only localization is mediocrely translated, and the battle system in the PS1 version is waaaaaay clunkier than Legendia's. The PS2 remake looks and is said to be excellent, but you'd need to import or pirate it, mod your PS2 either way, and play it in Japanese. Or actually if you pirate it, there might be some sort of fan-translation patch; I don't quite know how that works on the PS2, other than that it does in some way, and I haven't put much research into fan-translations.

Why would you want them to keep the same battle system? Keeping the same battle and combo system all the time would make battles boring. And the LMBS was inspired by a 2D fighter; unless you're talking Street Fighter, 2D fighter systems are constantly changing. Just look at what Arc System Works did with all the fighting games that weren't Guilty Gear; we got Battle Fantasia, and BlazBlue out of them, and they're the greatest fucking fighting games since The King of Fighters 2002.

As for the PS3 version of Vesperia; they're keeping the plot, but they're adding to it. They're basically turning a 50 hour story into a 60-70 hour story, adding in a new playable character, the main plot is going to be fully voiced, and there are new bosses, new artes, and about 20 hours of new sidequests and stuff, Repede can be used as an onscreen avatar, and there are a shitload of new costumes. And it's probably never going to make it outside of Japan.

There's no Free-Run in Graces =P it's being replaced by a Sidestep command; which makes sense, since it's mostly a Team Destiny game... They're gonna be using the CC system from Destiny remake as well, which is waaaaaay better than TP =D

Legendia's cheesy as hell (obnoxiously so at times) and has a clunky battle system, but has decent graphics and beautiful music. Destiny's only localization is mediocrely translated, and the battle system in the PS1 version is waaaaaay clunkier than Legendia's. Really? Cause from what I remember, the character models in Legendia are complete shit, but the environments are beautiful. I wouldn't pay any mind to the battle system though; it's Tales of Eternia on crack, but not as fun. Destiny's decent, and fun to play. It's not so much clunky as it is not possible to combo, since its LMBS isn't quite 'Enchanced' even though that's what the name says.

And nuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuuu you don't need to mod your PS2 to import or pirate! You just need Swap Magic, and one of the tools, depending on your model; PS2 phats can use Slide Tool or Flip-Top, and slims, all you need to do is block the sensors, or use magic-switch, or flip-top is also an option. There's no fanslation patch out yet for Destiny Director's Cut, but the other team that's working on a Phantasia patch, Phantasion Productions, is gonna be working on one for Destiny with the guy doing Innocence's patch once they're both finished. They've already started, but the project is currently on hold.

Oh yeah... For some reason, Barbatos and Dhaos are the last two characters to be in Tales of VS... They've been in everything recently; Radiant Mythology 2 as impossible bosses, and Vesperia as difficult bosses... They honestly need to pay more attention to the other villains; Alexei was fucking awesome, and Miktran is just... God damn... But they finally put up gameplay of Kohak from Hearts... She looks just as fun to play as Shing. Though I am disappoint that Hisui didn't make it in.

Yep! The graphics average to "decent".

Mmm... I'm not such a huge fan of 'averaging' things... I tend to treat them as two completely different things...

Three more days until Tales of VS! They just announced that Joke Weapons will be in it, but the only one they've revealed so far is Cotton Candy. They can be acquired as downloadable content through passwords, sorta like the hidden battles in items in Dissidia.

When I said 'system', I meant console, Blaze. >.<

Maybe not , since it seems that every Tales re-issue or remake isn't. ToP didin't, Destiny didn't, and two whole mothership titles didn't. And why?... because those damn Japanese are keeping everything to themsleves. D:< I say we bomb, er, I mean infiltrate that god-forsaken island! Make the men as slaves, keep the women, adopt the children! :).

That's because Dhaos is fucking awesome, and Barbatos, from what you've told me, it a monster.

Hm, that's closer than I expected. Too bad I can't get, you'll have to tell me how it is.

Question: Are they altering the stories of the all the characters to fit them into this kingdom? From what I've read, that's what it seems like.

Yeah, looking at their track record for releases after Eternia, of all the mothership games in the series, we've only gotten the 3D games, sans Innocence because they for some reason didn't want to release it, and Phantasia GBA, because Nintendo paid Namco big bucks for it to make over here under the pretense of "It'll sell even better than Symphonia!" which is a real shame, because I really wanted that Full Voice Edition to make it over u.u

And then we've only gotten two of the escort (spinoff) titles in the series; Radiant Mythology, and Knight of Ratatosk. I don't know what caused them to bring over Radiant, but we only got ToS2 cause of the popularity of the first game. And for all the hate it gets, for the record; it was decent as a spin-off sequel. I liked it, and me being such a sap, I'm all for romance/love stories in a game, however corny or badly written it may be. Sure it didn't live up to the likes of the original game (Which was cliche as fuck, and had rather generic characters; it was just fun to see how they changed. And Lloyd was such a dork xD), but it was decent. I just don't know why people expected so much out of a spinoff; the budget wasn't even that great in the game since most of their money went into Vesperia xD

That's because Dhaos is fucking awesome, and Barbatos, from what you've told me, it a monster.

Yeah, but my problem with this is that they've been paying too much attention to these bosses. The both of them have shown up in more than 4 to 5 games in the Tales series as cameos, soon to be 6, and they've shown up in the same game with each other for all of them except 3.

Basically I'm starting to get sick of seeing them, and I'd rather see other villains make cameos; Miktran from Destiny needs to show up again, just cause he was so freakin' awesome, and the closest thing you can get in Tales to Kefka (He succeeded in taking over the world, and did it in less than a minute. The only differences between them is that Miktran wasn't fucked up in the head, and Miktran didn't become a god, he only wielded it xD).

Or... No, screw all the other villains. We need Incarose and Creed Graphyte to show up in other Tales games. They would be awesome cameos.

Hm, that's closer than I expected. Too bad I can't get, you'll have to tell me how it is.

Oh indeed I shall have to tell you how it is. Thankfully it won't use the analog stick, so I don't have to worry about that (My analog stick stopped working properly for some reason, and now I can't play Phantasy Star Portable, or Monster Hunter effectively, or at all ;~; )

Yes, in answer to your question; for the most part, their backstories stay true to their original games, if you know what I mean, like Judith travelling around with Ba'ul, but they also changed certain things with relationships; since Lion's going to be in the game, they're obviously ignoring the fact that he died in his game, and although he's Stan's friend, he's still a jerk with blackmail on his tail xD And Arche's character description in the official website also said that she grew up with Cless, which obviously didn't happen in Phantasia.

I just can't believe they put Mint in this game, of all characters... They had a dozen better characters to choose from, and they went with Mint. I mean, if they wanted to put in a healer, they could've used Karol, or Ange or Hisui even... But hey, I'm glad Kohak made it in. Hearts characters were awesome, and I already know who I'm using xD

lol, Phantasia selling better than Symphonia. That's about the same chances that Sarah Palin becoming pres in '12. I can see why Symphonia was the best-selling though, even though it wasn't the best of its series.

Six cameos, what? Vesperia, Radiant Myth, VS, and what else?

What would be good, if we could see more hero cameos. The arena battle with Farah and Meredy and that other guy was great (and I STILL haven't beat them). HAving a couple of the heroes of some of the games as one bunch to fight would be really cool, I think.

Don't get me started with broken pieces of corporate crap. :/ Now I can't get any farther in Chrono Trigger, because my L button doesn't work. Same with my old Spectrobes game, and some others. And now my A button is starting to fail due to my constant smahing on it. Time for a new DS.

lol, What the hell is that? A smiley? xD

Spoiler. >,<

Watch out, Mint's using Pow Pow Hammer!

Yuri: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Six cameos, what? Vesperia, Radiant Myth, VS, and what else?

Dhaos was in Tales of Eternia as Sekundes, the Greater Craymel of Time. Barbatos was in Destiny Remake as a punishment for level grinding, and the boss of the EX dungeon, Dhaos showed up in two of the Narikiri Dungeon games for the GBA, and Barbatos in one of them.

What would be good, if we could see more hero cameos. The arena battle with Farah and Meredy and that other guy was great (and I STILL haven't beat them). HAving a couple of the heroes of some of the games as one bunch to fight would be really cool, I think.

They did that to make an impossibly hard fight on Unknown difficulty in Abyss xD You fight Reid from Eternia, Mint, Philia from Destiny, and Nanaly from Destiny 2. Mint would Time Stop your ass before she died, Philia would hit everyone once, and hard with Sacred Blame, Nanaly had her lame Wild Geese. And you had to kill Rid first, cause otherwise he'd use his Aurora Wall right before he dies if he's the last one to do massive damage to your party, and revive his party with 20% of their max HP x.x

lol, What the hell is that? A smiley? xD

YUS it's crying, don't make fun of me >.>

Watch out, Mint's using Pow Pow Hammer!

Yuri: NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO

Yeah, apparently Acid Rain can do damage in VS. All of her debuff spells now do damage apparently. But Pikohan and Piko Piko Hammer are a given, since they started doing damage with Eternia... Friggin' Chat... That's the only reason anyone likes you, other than Eternal Hammer...
