Arena: Final Destination

Just a floating, flat platform.

At the moment, no characters from various games were having an epic free-for-all on the lonely platform of Final Destination. This was fortunate for a pair of ASB battlers, since they were planning to have a match on that very stage. There were three separate iridescent flashes as the two beginning trainers and referee were teleported to the floating arena, courtesy of the ASB League’s Abras. They all seemed somehow familiar with the strange arena, though, because all they did was glance at the current landscape – a beautiful sunset out at sea – before taking their places and readying their Pokeballs.
All of a sudden, the platform put on a burst of incredible speed and began shooting up towards the sky, ending up in outer space in a matter of moments. Thankfully there seemed to be an invisible barrier around the stage, because none of the humans were thrown to the floor and there was still oxygen to breathe. As Final Destination slowed down again, the referee barked out a series of instructions, after which the trainers threw their Pokeballs. On Xaldin’s side was Nightslice the Scyther, who regarded his opponent, a Charmander, with a cool expression. Cinnamon, on the other hand, appeared to have no interest in his opponent and was instead peering over the edge of the platform.

As soon as the referee waved her flags to signal the start of the first round, Nightslice smirked at his opponent and covered her presence with dark energy, rendering himself invisible. Cinnamon took no notice of this and drew himself up and away from the edge of the platform. He began to trace intricate patterns with his feet, waving his arms in a seemingly random fashion and thrashing his tail from side to side. Within a few heartbeats, confidence and a wild exhilaration began to rush through his body.

Before the dance was done, though, Nightslice appeared behind him and used one razor-sharp scythe to slash across the Charmander’s back. Cinnamon squealed in shock and whipped around to glare at his opponent before resuming his little boogie, ending it with a confident pose. Draconic power surged up within him, and the lizard suddenly felt more nimble and powerful.

Nightslice rained on Cinnamon’s party, though, when he pushed off with his legs and shot off at an incredible speed, using his wings for added momentum. Cinnamon could only watch as his opponent zipped back and forth across the stage. When Nightslice slowed down, he was accompanied with three more Scythers, each completely indistinguishable from the other. His opponent groaned in exasperation; how was he supposed to land a hit now? Deciding to take a stab in the dark, Cinnamon made a tiny fist, imbuing it with a bit of fighting-type energy, and swung it at the nearest Scyther. The illusion shredded immediately on contact, a few greenish wisps floating in the air before fading into nothing. The three remaining Nightslices chuckled at Cinnamon’s failure. Nice try.

Now quite miffed, Cinnamon growled and opened his mouth wide to show his numerous, gleaming white teeth. If this was supposed to intimidate Nightslice, he didn’t show it; he merely crossed his arms and mouthed, Go for it. The Charmander gladly obliged, contracting his fire sac slightly to squirt a bit of fire into his mouth, which lingered on his fangs. Then he ran towards a random Scyther and swung his maw forward – into a translucent green barrier that his opponent had raised while he wasn’t looking. Nightslice laughed again as Cinnamon withdrew his head. The Charmander felt like he had just crunched down on rock. With a whimper he used one tiny hand to rub at her teeth, hoping to soothe his discomfort.

Ok, nice one Nighty! Let's keep to that stratagy! Use Vacuum Wave, then jump over that Charmander And once above it use a strong Air Slash! Then follow it up with a protect or if not attacking or use a status inflicting move, use a swords dance.

Even though Nightslice was already much quicker than Cinnamon, he executed his next attack with an inhuman amount of speed. Pulling his scythe over his chest, his two clones mimicking the movement perfectly, he briefly closed his eyes in concentration, during which the scythe started glowing light brown, and then swept it in front of his body in a wide curve. The fighting energy left the sharp weapon and sliced through the air, distorting it as it flew along. Cinnamon scarcely had time to blink, much less run away, before he was sucked into the vacuum. The Charmander was tossed around like a rag doll, shrieking madly – he hated this sense of vertigo – and two seconds later he thunked unceremoniously back down on the ground. His heart still racing, even though the attack left him looking barely the worse for wear, Cinnamon glared at Nightslice before he began dance once more. This time, though, the dance was more upbeat and lively, and as it went on, a fiery globe took shape between his outstretched hands. With a final spin he thrust her arms up to the sky, flinging the bright orange orb high up into the starry void. There was an explosion that quickly blotted out the blackness of space; both Pokemon, as well as the trainers and referee, squeezed their eyes shut. When they opened them again, the scenery had changed. Somehow the floating platform had ended up back on earth, on a hot summer day with the sun bearing down on the battlers.

Nightslice didn’t appreciate the new, humid climate in the slightest. Already a bead of sweat had appeared on his forehead. He used the blunt edge of his scythe to wipe it away, breathing out an over-exaggerated sigh, then suddenly slashed at the empty space in front of him. Only one of the Air Slahes were real, but the one that was hit hard. Cinnamon squeaked in shock as another wave bore down on him, this one made of viciously concentrated wind. Even though it didn’t travel nearly as fast as the Vacuum Wave from before, it very nearly blew the Charmander over. Cinnamon was just able to wrench himself upright as the wave passed over him. He glared daggers at all three of the Scyther, then coated his fangs with fire once more and ran up to the rightmost mantis. This time, Nightslice didn’t have a barrier to protect him, but he didn’t need it. Cinnamon’s teeth passed harmlessly through the clone, cutting through it as easily as a hot knife cut through butter. Now very despondent, the Charmander fell back on his behind and wailed plaintively. Why couldn’t he do anything right?

His opponent clearly didn’t falter from Cinnamon’s display of despair. If anything, Nightslice was heartened by it. With a smirk he and his remaining clone traced several circles with a clawed foot, then leapt into the air, wings abuzz, darting from side to side while slashing at the air, as if battling an invisible opponent. Finally, he crossed his scythes in an X-formation and sliced downwards powerfully. Deeming it an appropriate finishing move, Nightslice nodded to himself and touched down on the platform again. His body flooded with confidence as he idly sharpened his scythes, his now-sharper senses ready to deal with any attacks.

As it turned out, he wouldn’t have to try to dodge anything just yet. Cinnamon had gotten back on his feet and was dancing as well, striking his claws together occasionally as he spun and shifted his weight from one foot to another. The metallic clang sent excited shudders down the Charmander’s spine and the heat from the sun only added to the feeling. As the dance drew to a close, Cinnamon swung his head to his opponent, facing the two Scythers with more confidence than before.

Once again, Nightslice took the initiative, cloaking himself as well as his last clone in dark energy like he had earlier. Cinnamon twitched nervously when he saw this, but forced himself to concentrate and look around the arena. They were floating in midair, on a metal platform… His train of thought went no further than that before his opponent appeared behind him, one scythe still shrouded in a writhing black aura, and slashed his backside. Cinnamon shrieked and backed away from Nightslice, attempting to wipe away the blood that was now dripping uncomfortably down his back with a stubby arm.

Tired of being the Scyther’s punchbag, the Charmander looked around the stage with a newfound eagerness. There were clearly no rocks nearby, but at the very least, he could rip some metal chunks off the edge of the platform. Cinnamon closed his eyes in concentration and let out a low, eerie croon, then started to glow a very faint silvery-brown colour. The farthest edge of Final Destination shone the same colour, before there was an ear-splitting creak and snap. A chunk of metal came clear off the floating platform; a grin tugged at the corners of Cinnamon’s mouth before he pointed dramatically at the second Nightslice. The coloured steel groaned in protest even as it shot towards the Scyther at an unnatural speed. Eyes wide with fear, the Nightslice tried to flee, but to no avail; the metal plate fell down on the mantis with an earthshaking thud. This one turned out to be real, as Nightslice was knocked down, one foot still under the chunk of steel, and the clone a few feet away faded away as the Scyther’s concentration faltered.

Nightslice finally managed to drag himself out from under his hard, flat prison and took a few experimental steps. He winced whenever he put his weight on his right foot, but other than that, he felt fine. Stealing a quick glance at Cinnamon, he realized that the Charmander had coated his fangs with fire for the third time this battle, and quickly raised a translucent green barrier to protect him from harm. Once again, Cinnamon was completely unaware of the shield, and chomped down hard on it, the force of the impact shooting shockwaves up into his skull. He whimpered unhappily as he drew away, rubbing his teeth. Damnit. And they had just stopped tingling, too. Overhead, the sun’s rays lessened in intensity, and the air temperature dropped back to a more comfortable level.

Determined not to give his opponent any time to recuperate, Nightslice kicked off with his clawed feet, turning a tight circle around Cinnamon to build up some speed. He gave the Charmander a quick but piercing slash to the side as he ran past; Cinnamon had no hope of defending against the attack, only realizing what angle his opponent had attacked him from until a second after his scythe cut. By then, Nightslice had retreated a few feet, his scythes crossed and a mocking expression on his face.

Irrational rage bubbled up within Cinnamon. Enough with the constant attacking! Was he going to be beaten by an overgrown bug? He thought of all the dirty tricks his opponent had used on him: making clones so he could never target the right one, vanishing into thin air and suddenly attacking him from behind. As his anger grew and grew, Cinnamon’s eyes glazed over and eventually started to glow a flat orange. Finally, the Charmander’s temper boiled over and exploded in the form of a roar, many decibels louder than one would expect out of a two-foot tall lizard. Nightslice couldn’t help but back away, startled by the sudden display of ferocity. Suddenly, blue-green dragon fire, which contrasted starkly against Cinnamon’s orange skin, blazed up around him. Within a few heartbeats he had dashed up to the Scyther, and was now scratching and biting furiously at his exoskeleton. Nightslice cried out in shock and tried to back away, but his efforts were futile; Cinnamon merely roared again and caught up with him, continuing the onslaught with even more vigour. Eventually Nightslice gave up and just curled up in a ball in an attempt to ward off the more serious blows. When Cinnamon finally stepped back, his anger spent for now, the Scyther’s exoskeleton sported many more scratches and bite marks, as well as the occasional blackened patch from the dragon fire or the flame on the Charmander’s tail.

Ok, Nighty, ¨NOW we get serious. Use a nice agility. Then after use a Detect if Cin is attacking, if not, use another aerial ace, and then use a wing attack! If you are going to be attacked, then use another Detect.

PS(Scyther can learn Detect in G,S,C with a TM.)

Fearfully glancing back over his shoulder at his opponent, Nightslice kicked off once more with his legs. This time, though, he didn’t rush over to Cinnamon, who was still snarling like a crazed beast and alight with dragon fire. Instead he ran along the perimeter of Final Destination, feeling the wind whistle around his exoskeleton, whipping his wings back. He felt his muscles become more limber, and eventually the pain in his right leg eased.

Realizing that there was no way he could land a hit while Nightslice was running circles around him like that, Cinnamon huffed furiously and waited for the Scyther to slow down. When he did, Cinnamon let out another earthshaking roar and dashed up to the mantis, little claws extended and ready to shred. Nightslice, panting slightly after his sprint around the platform, looked up in alarm to find a fuming orange lizard bearing upon him, eyes still a flat orange and the flame on the tip of his tail twice its usual size. Cinnamon dug his claws into Nightslice’s side, slashing downwards in a slow, gruesome process, green insect blood leaking out as the Scyther thrashed in pain. In Cinnamon’s state of ire, though, Nightslice’s cries of agony went unregistered, even as he slashed again and again, throwing the occasional tail-whack in the mix. By the time the Charmander’s fury had been spent, Nightslice was crouched on the ground, new scratches decorating his body in frantic patterns.

As Cinnamon stepped back, the sheet effort needed to keep his body livid with dragon fire was too much for the little lizard. It flickered and died out with a sad sss, while his eyes returned to their normal colour. Then, Cinnamon’s eyes suddenly crossed and his tongue stuck out the side of his mouth, forming a ridiculously comical expression in stark comparison to his ferocity mere moments before.

Nightslice, still very wary for very obvious reasons, peered closely at the cross-eyed Charmander. When he did nothing but waddle forward a few steps in a very crooked line before falling down flat on his face, tongue still lolling out, the Scyther sighed and shrugged. He rubbed his scythes together to ensure they were sharp, then sprinted forward for the umpteenth time this match, turning one or two tight circles around the delirious Cinnamon, who was struggling back to his feet, before slashing his back. The impact of the attack knocked him back down on the ground, snout pressed against the cold steel.

Still trying to stand up, Cinnamon managed to get to his knees and then to his little clawed feet, stumbling backwards a bit from rising to his feet so suddenly. Unfortunately, the Charmander’s tail just happened to be behind him and he fell backwards, his skull and spine striking the ground simultaneously. Cinnamon winced slightly from the impact, but was quickly distracted by the unusually large stars appearing in his vision. They were so pretty… He giggled childishly, still lying on his back.

By now Nightslice had given up trying to fathom his opponent. He shrugged and walked up to Cinnamon, rather sure that he wouldn’t jump up and attack him, then bent down awkwardly and beat the lizard powerfully with his wings. Cinnamon cried out, more in surprise than pain, and was pushed about three inches from his original position. Nightslice stepped back, still rather nonplused by the Charmander’s sudden change in mood.

Outrage just grazed the critical hit roll, so I had it to 2% more damage.
Also, Outrage has to be performed for 2~3 actions in a row (In this case, two), and thus the Aerial Ace command was overridden.
The RNG hates Cinnamon. He was confused for the 2nd and 3rd actions.

Nightslice, spurred by his trainer’s commands, quickly rubbed his scythes together with a metallic zwing and dashed forwards, both arms raised menacingly. Beating his wings for extra speed, he bore down on the prone form of his opponent, scythes ready to slice.

Cinnamon stared at the sky and giggled.

Mentally, Nightslice shrugged and filed his opponent under ‘slightly insane’. With both scythes he cut down, leaving two identical vertical slashes in their wake. As if this snapped Cinnamon out of his little reverie, he cried out and glared indignantly at the Scyther. Then he… lay down flat on his back again and closed his eyes. If Nightslice could scratch his head in confusion without wounding himself, he would have then.

The sleep that Cinnamon had entered was no ordinary sleep, however. The little lizard’s immune system went into overdrive, consuming huge amounts of energy in order to heal his numerous wounds at a rapid pace. As Nightslice watched, all the injuries he had dealt shrunk and faded away, leaving nary a scar. He twitched.

Well, at the very least, it made Cinnamon much easier to hit. Nightslice readied his scythes again, turned a tight circle around his sleeping opponent to gain speed, and slashed down powerfully. His opponent shrieked in his sleep.

The Scyther stepped back, pleased with his work for now. Cinnamon’s sleep-talking didn’t stop there, though. He kept on muttering, eventually staggering to his feet, the spectacle made even creepier due to the fact his eyes were still closed. Then he bent over and pawed frantically at the metallic ground, but when it proved completely unyielding, the Charmander collapsed on his side again, panting crazily.

By now, Nightslice was getting rather tired of Aerial Aces. Rolling his eyes, he gathered speed and cut through Cinnamon’s scaly hide once more. His body spasmed with the pain, and he stood up again. For a moment the Scyther thought he had shaken his opponent awake – but no, his eyes were still closed. Cinnamon muttered quietly before spitting a weak stream of magma onto the floor. He was far, far too exhausted to even form the sizzling blob into something resembling a Charmander, however, let alone imbue it with his life force, and fell back to the ground, completely spent.
