Gay Marriage Killed the Dinosaurs @Facebook said:
Top 17 Reasons Why Gay Marriage is Wrong

17. Gay marriage will change the foundation of society; we could never adapt to new social norms. Just like we haven't adapted to cars, the service-sector economy, or longer life spans.

16. Gay culture is a new fad created by the liberal media to undermine long-standing traditions. We know this is true because gay sex did not exist in ancient Greece and Rome.

15. There are plenty of straight families looking to adopt, and every unwanted child already has a loving family. This is why foster care does not exist.

14. Conservatives know best how to create strong families. That is why it is not true that Texas and Mississippi have the highest teen birthrates, and Massachusetts, Vermont, and New Hampshire have the lowest. This is a myth spread by the liberal media.

13. Marriage is a religious institution, defined by churches. This is why atheists do not marry. Christians also never get a divorce.

12. Children can never succeed without a male and a female role model at home. That's why our society has no single parents.

11. Gay marriage is not supported by religion. In a theocracy like ours, the values of one religion are imposed on the entire country. That's why we have only one religion in America.

10. Obviously gay parents will raise gay children, since straight parents only raise straight children.

9. Straight marriages are valid because they produce children. Gay couples, infertile couples, and old people shouldn't be allowed to marry because our orphanages aren't full yet, and the world needs more children.

8. Gay marriage should be decided by the people and their elected representatives, not the courts. The framers checked the courts, which represent mainstream public opinion, with legislatures created to protect the rights of minorities from the tyranny of the majority. Interference by courts in this matter is inappropriate, just as it has been every time the courts have tried to hold back legislatures pushing for civil rights.

7. Straight marriage will be less meaningful if gay marriage were allowed; the sanctity of Britany Spears' 55-hour just-for-fun marriage would be destroyed.

6. Civil unions, providing most of the same benefits as marriage with a different name are better, because "separate but equal" institutions are a good way to satisfy the demands of uppity minority groups.

5. Straight marriage has been around a long time and hasn't changed at all; women are still property, blacks still can't marry whites, and divorce is still illegal.

4. Legalizing gay marriage will open the door to all kinds of crazy behavior. People may even wish to marry their pets because a dog has legal standing and can sign a marriage contract.

3. Gay marriage will encourage people to be gay, in the same way that hanging around tall people will make you tall.

2. Being gay is not natural. Real Americans always reject unnatural things like eyeglasses, polyester, and air conditioning.

1. METEORS and VOLCANOES.

C'mon, people. Whether it's linked to genes or not, it shouldn't matter.

But it does matter! It shows that 1) homosexuality is a completely natural occurence and 2) homosexuality is not a choice. :)

Does it really matter? Homosexuality doesn't really need to be proven any more natural considering it occurs in animals and in all honesty I never understand why the idea of homosexuality being a choice, a preference or affected by environment makes it not okay or not as important, especially from societies that hold their freedoms so highly.

I support homosexuality in every way. They deserve the same rights as anyone else, regardless of who they are attracted to.

^ What she said.

Also, why are some people in this thread using the subject manner to make crude jokes like "there's a cause ["buttfucking"] I can get behind"? This is supposed to be a serious debate.

Not only is this thread months old, the people who are making those jokes are in favour of homosexuality. Lighten up a little! This isn't a particularly structured debate or anything.
Also I see little point in posting if you're only going to say that you agree with the person above you; it's not really worth bringing into the debate, is it?

24 August was less than a month ago. Been months since it's seen any real activity, though, yeah.

But it does matter! It shows that 1) homosexuality is a completely natural occurence and 2) homosexuality is not a choice. :)
Oh, never saw this.

But how does that matter? So what if we're choosing to be unnatural?

This is one thing I still don't get. Why do so many people want sexuality to be so meaningful, and why does it need to be innate and unchangeable to mean anything? I like both sexes and pretty much anything in between; yes, there's something in that, but it doesn't hold any great sway over who I am. And, if anything, it means more if it's a choice (though whether it's natural makes no difference to me.)

EDIT: Not that I know that that's what you're thinking; I just see it a lot.

I think most of the people making those jokes are LGBT themselves. :0

And this isn't so much a debate as "we all agree, then occasionally a poor uninformed soul walks in and thinks saying 'the bible says it's bad' works as well here as it does on every other Pokemon forum".

Actually, from what I understand, the original Hebrew Bible mentions nothing about homosexuality, and if anything, promotes the loving relationship. Amazing what spins translation and "versions" bring.

So are you entirely against marriage, or do you specifically think you should be treated differently?

I'm against gay marriage, even though I'm gay. More specifically, I'm against the religious form of marriage. The argument exists that marriage is a religious institution, but nonreligious people are allowed to get married everyday. Why should gays not be allotted the rights of married folks? I don't care what they call it as long as the rights are equal... which, in America, they currently aren't. I understand and agree with the argument that gays shouldn't be allowed to be married since they allegedly are denying God or whatever, but so is everyone else that is nonreligious and is allowed to be married.

so then... should we entirely scrap the legal form of "marriage" and give everyone civil unions or something?

Personally I think homosexuality is pretty fucked up, but whatever.

And if homosexuality was natural, or going in conformance with nature, then wouldn't men be able to reproduce together without the need for external stuff, ditto for women? Thus, it's not very natural at all, but that doesn't necessarily mean it's a choice, either. Genetic mutations happen in viruses, maybe a mutation happened in the way people think, so what they say is being born that way is just a mutation in their sex drive or whatever the hell it is.

Yeah, thought I'd make this less of an 'lets just all agree' thread.

Again: what difference does it make if it's (un)natural? I could go after the rest but I want an answer to this for once.

@Zhorken: I'm simply saying that the gay-marriage-is-wrong-because-it-is-not-Bible-conforming argument doesn't make sense to me for this reason.

I feel that homosexuality is as natural as people that choose not to have babies. I DON'T feel that it's a choice at all... why would anyone choose a lifestyle in which they get kicked out of church, beat up, et cetera?
