Hoo boy, alright, looks like they were doing this. Jade clenched and unclenched her paws, trying to snap herself into the right headspace after an afternoon spent lounging around.

Her paws cracked with sparks, sending an involuntary chill up her neck. She'd been practicing, but... it still felt weird. Unnatural. There was still a part of her that flinched when she saw the threads of energy clinging to her arm. It had been one thing to grab that power from someone else, through Assist. It was different to feel it coming from within herself.

Jade screwed her eyes shut and thrust her arm forward and felt the lightning fly.

Silver observed quietly his opponents, his eyes narrowed and his ears and feathers flicking. Those movements… were they drunk or something?

“You oughta lay down on your sake, folks! It won’t do good for your reflexes!” he exclaimed with a smug smirk, before pumping his fists and letting the empowering energy of his Bulk Up strengthen his muscles. “Well! Let’s see if you can catch this slippery Sneasel!”

He darted back and forth, trying to disorient his target with furtive movements, before laying down a series of rapid rock-breaking and aura-draining punches at the Samurott.

"Too bad you were gone so long," Leaf teased, pawing the ground eagerly. She'd been waiting for this ever since the samurai had first left. And waiting more since she'd evolved. And waiting even more after all the practicing she'd been doing, which all in all was an entirely unreasonable amount of waiting to ask for from her. She was ready. "Missed out on a chance to take down some of the guys who're making the demons."

She watched them unsheathe weapons, hone their blades and claws. Jumping right in this time, then, but nothing she wasn't prepared to deal with. (So far, anyway.) She took just a second to bolster herself and then charged in, darted around Kyoko, aimed two kicks at her legs—no baby double kicks this time, but lightning-fast, just like Kyoko herself had taught her—and then threw her shoulder into the samurott's chest to try and force an overbalance.

"But maybe, if you've been behaving yourselves and prove you're not too rusty, we'll let you tag along when we go after the rest of 'em!"

Leaf's ears swiveled back and forth around the square as she cantered away to see if they'd follow. Beetle was nudging them in the backs of their minds, and Kotetsu's comment hadn't been lost on her. Unless the bisharp was too drunk to math properly, someone around here was planning a surprise attack. (...Someone other than Ibuki, she meant.)

"Ha! I see you have grown far stronger these recent months!" roared Kotetsu, with delight. He beckoned with a mailed hand. "Don't spend all your strikes on the lady, will you? I'm right here, eh?"

The Bisharp warrior laughed with the fierce, hot-blooded joy of a battleheart, and stormed towards his opponents, fists and helmet glowing.

The other two samurai opened with what seemed like routine sequences of attacks, well-practiced in recent months of adventuring. Neither wasted breath on speech while their leader mouthed off...

As Leaf approached, the bag's flap flew open as a small, white, sharp-edged creature burst out from inside.

"Cut!" yelled the angular pokémon, slashing at Leaf in a lunge that didn't fully reach her. Even a grazing blow from a weak attack still hurt pretty bad – whatever this 'mon was, they could leave a hell of a mark if they attacked properly!

The 'mon called 'Mayu' performed a stunning display of intense preparation, rapidly executing a kind of ritualised series of cuts in the air. Satisfied with this, they took a ready pose, poised to parry – and to strike with extreme precision.

It would be best not to allow such an opponent to land any strikes, if possible...

...and perhaps their paper-like appearance indicated a paper-like constitution.

It seems the foe's attention is divided fairly evenly for now...

"Tss--" Mhynt blipped away while rubbing her arm. She was still so fragile in this state, just one hit and she was already wincing. She had to be careful.

Those barriers... That Kartana... She wasn't familiar with the species, but she had a sense of Steel from it. Her enervation techniques didn't work on those kinds of creatures yet... Ugh. Troublesome. Half of the opposition was immune to her tricks. Not to mention it coming out of nowhere...

"Let's take care of those protections you have, shall we?" Mhynt muttered. Being a slight nuisance was better until she could regain her footing. Clutching her Sneak Scarf, she hoped it would shroud her from the enemy as she tossed rocks and stray kicks while finding places to stay out of view.

Jade took a deep breath, trying to keep her breathing even. Didn’t want to burn too much energy too fast—had to keep pace. The Thunderbolt had hit true, and her arm still tingled. Hadn’t done much, though, she needed more power.

Had to think fast—had to land a hit on the little origami creature that’d joined the fray. Had to get out of the line of fire. But everything was so open.

…Everything except the fountain.

No time for thinking, only doing. Jade flicked a multicolored burst of light at Mayu (this one tinged with gold) and then made a break for the fountain—

Again with the boiling water with these guys. She wasn't the one who'd wanted a hot bath, dammit. Leaf did her best to shake it off, tried to ignore how inviting the water pouring from the fountain looked right about now. Focus, bolster, strike decisively, follow through, even if it's gonna suck. She sprang forward, winced at the shards stabbing into her, then shrugged and kicked some of them toward Kyoko before charging. Strike decisively. Follow through. Set up for your teammates.

Sorry, man," she called to Kotetsu, looking pointedly at Ibuki and not at him. "No fun knocking a guy on his ass when he's about to fall on it by himself anyway! Walk it off and and show us you want to fight for real, and then we'll give you all the strikes you could ever want, promise."

“C’mon! I’m waiting for your biggest shot!” quipped Silver, teasing his opponents with his fluid, almost liquid motions. While some attacks managed to strike him, he was cautious enough to pour energy into his body to better take the hits. “I’ve got enough punches in me for the lots of ya! So wait in line for your turns!”

But then, when Leaf checked out the bag, an origami-like creature with swords sprang out of it and joined the battle, shouting defiant battle cries at the Wayfarers. That sight made Silver freeze on the spot, his eyes wide, and a chilling jolt coursing through his spine. Blaring sirens; mayday; otherworldly invaders…

“What…?” he whispered in disbelief, his mind blanking out as the tidal wave of shock crashed over and over.

Just like that, the creature was gone with the wind before he had the chance to process what just happened. What in the bloody world…?

Focus!, chided his rational side. Silver grunted and gave himself a mental slap. That wasn’t the right time to ponder about that living origami. Yeah, focus! He needed to focus…

“…Heh. Y’know what they often say: ladies first,” started Silver with a confident tone when his trance wore off, managing to forcefully push away that brief lapse of unease. “So! Guess who’s gonna get the honor of biting the dust first?”

And with a mighty shout, Silver leaped toward Kyoko and unleashed another series of powerful punches.

The Samurott fell to all fours, wincing, and then fainted – downed before she could show her true strength. Such were the risks of larger battles like this! Perhaps she was better-suited to one-on-one duels...

Mayu, meanwhile, was already showing scorch-marks on their paper-like surfaces. They wouldn't last long if they kept taking hits like that...

Laura, who had retreated to the edge of the square to join the crowd of townie spectators, cupped her paws around her mouth and shouted.

"Hey Jade, heads up! The Kartana's gonna come after you!"

Laura Called out to Jade!

And indeed they did...

It appears Silver commands the most attention. Mhynt is escaping notice.

He said this almost with humour, and certainly with irony. A grin crept onto his face, and he wiped his mouth with the back of an armoured hand.

"Very well. I shall exert myself as I should."

"Once again," muttered the Kartana to themself, pacing on their small, origami-like limbs towards the fountain in pursuit of Jade.

Mayu walked to Fountain!

"I cut."

The small paper samurai lifted into the air, riding first air currents, then the steam from the heated water... and cut. A single, split-second slash that cleaved the central statue from its base. Their sword-like limbs came to a resting pose in front of them, and the statue of Mayor Oriane slid down, toppled, and collapsed into the water with a crash and a wave.

"Once again, I have cut a worthless object," declared Mayu, solemnly.

Then their blades flashed green, their eyeless attention turning to the Meowth...

"I cut!" they cried, their near-miss strike nevertheless agonising Jade as it nicked a weak point.

She couldn't say she hadn't asked for it. Leaf staggered under the weight of the iron head, managing to grit out a laugh in spite of it. "There's the samurai I wanted to see."

Meanwhile, the fountain, uh. For a second she wondered whether Kotetsu had sobered up so well he'd knocked her senseless, but no, that was definitely a thing that had happened. Whoever origami'd a little paper person finely enough to have it cut through stone was a hell of an artist. (And also made the origami person alive. That too.) Mad respect for the little guy "redecorating" the definitely-not-Ignatius statue while they were at it, not that Leaf was gonna say that out loud because she didn't wanna get in trouble for it. ("I didn't do it, Lucien, I swear, it was the tiny origami person!" was a perfectly reasonable thing to say, right?)

Probably a bad idea to leave Jade alone with all that, though. Kotetsu was just gonna have to take a rain check. She splashed into the fountain, bounded over the fallen statue with another splash, and lashed out at the origami pokémon.

She knew she wouldn't be useful for direct hits. But maybe she could draw their attention...

Silver glared back at Kotetsu when he felt the all-too-familiar aura of the opposing Leer disrupt his own aura, but he couldn’t retaliate that Ibuki’s imposing figure blindsided him with a swift strike and a spray of water in his direction. The now-Sneasel had barely the time to shield his face with his claws…

“Yowch!”

…and suddenly all those cartoons where animated Meowth burned their hands with scorching flatirons and stoves didn’t seem all that hilarious and harmless anymore.

“Hot hot hot hot—!!” he yelped, seeing the stars swimming in his eyes and shaking furiously his arms, before trying to puff his not-very-cold breaths on his claws to cool them down (but without much success).

"You foreigners aren't so amateurish this time, huh?" rumbled Ibuki, amiably. "This is fun! Go on, impress me!"

That statement got Silver’s attention, who stared hard at the Golisopod while clutching his paws, unbothered by the massive sizes’ difference.

“You wanna be impressed, huh…” grumbled Silver, the hotheadedness in his eyes burning as fiercely as his scorched claws, and he raised a fist over his head. “Then how ‘bout this for an impression?!”

Darting like a ninja, Silver closed the distances and threw a shadow-cloaked punch at what he believed was a weak spot on the Golisopod’s armor, wincing when the white-hot pain crawled on his arm. However, he had way too much adrenaline rushing through his body to care about that trivial detail, and he bolted toward Kotetsu.

“Oh! And I’ve got a surprise for you, too — with accrued interest!”
