• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

This is absolutely true. We cannot prove or disprove the existence of god. But, I repeat, why on earth does that mean we say "oh, I don't know, maybe god exists..."? The burden of proof rests on the religious. They're saying "god exists". They're deviating from the default. As long as there is...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

    Religions are mythology.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Why are people always obsessed with compromise? Sometimes - very often! - one extreme is the right answer. The default position is "god doesn't exist". That's how it works. If you claim something, you have to prove it; you don't say "well you can't DISPROVE it so there is an even chance of it...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

No. No we didn't. We share a common ancestors with the apes, and with the monkeys, and with every other species on earth, going back to a single organism, which appeared through abiogenesis. Quite! It's sufficient reason to discredit any religion with a creation myth. How can you continue...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

This is all self-evident. The purpose of this thread, as ultimately futile as it is, is to discuss whether there is any reason to believe in god(s) (beyond faith, which is not a reason but rather a lack of one).

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Could we have a link to the thread in question? I am curious.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

oh look, a long list of claims that the poster likely doesn't understand in the slightest and are not supported by any sources. I suggest talkorigins. You can probably find counters to most (if not all) of those points. I love this page.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

I think you might have us confused with Keanu Reeves.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Just like the Ancient Greeks had no other way to explain lightning and assumed it was Zeus throwing lightning bolts in displeasure?

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Not really. As long as you have no belief in a deity, you are atheist; everything else doesn't matter. If you say "well, there could be a God, but there is not enough evidence to make me believe there is", that doesn't change anything. Of course we should acknowledge the possibility that a deity...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

playing devil's advocate only works when you've got thought-provoking arguments. In a debate, it is necessary to prove your statements - while false statements do not necessarily make an argument invalid, they do make the conclusion invalid. The burden of proof is on the person who is making a...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Why? Do there exist only two levels of historical information, "completely in-depth" and "useless"? Of course it's a survival instinct - I scratch your back, you scratch mine - but like Skymin said, it is perfectly logical to assume that, as we evolved (not from apes, but from a common...

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Of course we don't have in-depth records, but neither is it lost in the mists of time. Animals that live in social groups somehow manage to restrain from killing each other/stealing each other's food/etc. I don't see why human ancestors wouldn't have acted the same way.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Burden of proof's on you. It seems to me quite logical that the foundations of organised religion would approximately coincide with the beginnings of civilisation as we know it, and we quite clearly do have records of those times.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

I'm finding it hard to imagine organised anything before written records.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Um, not really? At least, not organised religion.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Yes, but they have to be constructed so INTRICATELY, more like model ships or something. I was always terrible at model ships. Plus the pieces are tiny and can come together in many useless forms. Oh and then he'd have to stuff them all in cells, so there wouldn't be much space to work in.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

While this post doesn't really prove anything, I always thought proteins would have taken forever to work out if there really is a god.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

Precisely! We could replace relativity with "Darwin's theory of evolution". And I'd like to say again: dictionary definitions are worse than useless in debates. Please stop using them.

Does a God of ANY KIND exist?

The God of the gaps is a nonsensical concept that rises from the apparent belief that science is static and that anything it cannot answer must be unanswerable. This is not so: science is changing constantly, and eventually it will fill those gaps.
