Star to finish

An almost feautureless landscape that seems to go on forever. The ground is made up of blank metal tiles that are tough to dig through. The night sky is dotted with strange green stars and a green cresent moon that provide the arena with an eerie light, and blurred silver objects may occasionally grace the sky. Good look catching more than a glimpse of one though. The alien nature of the sky means no weather moves can be used. Any pokémon that manages to dig through the tough tiles may become poisoned from the black earth underneath.

Proto_Fan sends out and attacks.
Byrus attacks.

I am so sorry. I have been sick and all this crap it's been horrible. D:

Okay, let's go with Miles here.

Hmmm. Your opponent is a Spiritomb. He has no weaknesses to exploit without Foresight or Miracle eye.

Start off with a Will-o-Wisp attack to burn him a bit, If it misses then try it again. If it hits, use a Quick Attack. Then, finish it up by chillin'

Will-o-wisp~Will-o-Wisp/Quick Attack~Chill

Age cap...? Gah, me and my typos.

If the first will-o-wisp misses, taunt so Miles can't use it again. If it hits, use nasty plot. Finish with a couple of water pulses.

The stark, empty land is quiet and still, no sign of anything for miles around but blank metal tiles that gleam faintly in the weird light of the acid-green moon and stars overhead. The planet's surface is not entirely uninhabited, however. Alone in the midst of a nondescript stretch of tiling, Byrus waits at ease, apparently quite at home in the bizarre and empty place. How exactly he selected the spot that he did is unclear, given that it's identical to any other place on the featureless landscape as far as the eye can see in any direction, but more unclear still is how Proto_Fan managed to find him there, with no landmarks to guide his way.

Nevertheless, find Byrus he does, footsteps sounding loud in the cold stillness as he approaches. Though the clank of his shoes on the metal of the tiles is muffled by the planet's surface beneath, the tiles rasp against one another as they shift beneath the trainer's weight. If Proto_Fan is unnerved by the weird world he now finds himself in, his face shows only determination as he walks up to Byrus and gives a greeting, the two trainers making small talk while they wait for a referee to arrive.

After what seems like an inappropriately long span of waiting, the sound of heavy wingbeats in the dusky air overhead alerts the pair to the arrival of the last member of their group. Negrek's aerodactyl lands near where the two trainers are standing, claws setting up an awful screech as they scramble for purchase on the tiling. Negrek slides from the pokémon's back, raking windblown hair out of her face as she ambles towards where the battlers are standing. "Right, right, take your places and stuff," she says, gesturing broadly with her clipboard. "Honestly, couldn't have picked a more obscure spot, could you? You got any clue how lost I got after taking that wrong turn at 'still more random metal tiles valley' back there? I've been flying around for hours."

Paying the referee's grumbling little attention, the battlers split up and put a bit of space between them. Byrus is the first to send out a pokémon, calling up Tak the spiritomb, whose phosphorescent body and bright green grin seem perfectly suited for the arena. Proto_Fan fiddles with the pokéballs at his waist for a couple of moments before making his choice, which proves to be Miles the vulpix. The fire-type crouches warily across from Tak, tails lashing as he braces himself for battle. The referee calls out to announce the match's beginning, the trainers give their orders, and the battle gets underway at last.

Miles (M)

Miles concentrates, his six tails twitching as he combines fire and ghostly power. After a moment, he breathes out a ball of lively blue and purple flame that drifts towards Tak at a leisurely pace. Though Tak's broad, ragged grin remains firmly in place as he watches the will-o-wisp drift his way, he is in fact quite serious. As the will-o-wisp swoops closer, moving in erratic arcing motions, Tak leans far to the side, allowing the ball of ghostly flame to drift harmlessly past his body and blacken the metal tile behind him.

Miles growls as the spiritomb bursts into cackling laughter. That was a truly pitiful display of aim; if the vulpix is to have any hope of winning, he'll need to do a lot better than that! Tak doesn't hesitate to lay on the insults, questioning Miles' parentage, insulting his trainer, and making racial slurs about vulpix in general--whatever he thinks will get the fox pokémon most riled up.

As Miles himself is disappointed by the failure of his attack, this isn't difficult to do, and soon all thoughts of strategic maneuvering are driven from his mind as he gives in to his rage, wanting nothing more than to put Tak in as much pain as possible. He leaps forward, putting on a burst of speed that surprises even the smug spiritomb, and hurls himself blindly at the ghost's mocking grin. The quick attack accomplishes no more than giving him a bit of a chill as he sails through Tak's face without effect, one paw catching on the dark-type's keystone as he goes and tripping him up. Miles lands with little grace, stumbling and staggering away as Tak slowly rotates to face the vulpix, rearranging his face, which was disrupted by the fire-type's passage, and ready to deliver an attack of his own. Before Miles can move to defend himself, Tak liberates some of the water trapped in fissures in his keystone, concenrating it into a whirling stream that catches the vulpix in the face and spins him around. The vulpix coughs and splutters, dazed and dizzied.

The vulpix rights himself soon enough, though, growling and stalking towards Tak with as much menace as a small, fluffy fox can. There's no time for rest now--the spiritomb has to pay. Tak is quite unperturbed, though, and is merely happy that Miles has presented his face as a target as he conjures up another hissing burst of water. This time Miles slips in the puddle left by the last watery attack and slides back unceremoniously, his anger shoving aside any momentary disorientation he might otherwise have felt.

Thanks for picking this up, Negrek.

Well, that went better than planned. Set up a 10% substitute to prevent any major status problems, then go on the offense with a shadow ball and another water pulse. If Miles protects at any time, use nasty plot instead.

Oh wow. That was...

Horribly moronic move. Anyway Miles, let's see what we can do.

Let's start by using Flamethrower. Then...eh, use Energy Ball. Then use Hypnosis.

Flamethrower ~ Energy ball ~ Hypnosis

What was I thinking with the Quick Attack? :<

Shaking water from his fur, Miles grins as he hears a command that he can really get behind. Finally, the opportunity to show this obnoxious bit of plasma some real firepower! The vulpix blows out a concentrated stream of fire, and Tak gurgles in distress, trying to lean out of the way of the flamethrower but ultimately constrained by his heavy keystone. Flames crackle all around his glowing body, releasing a noxious smell as they burn through plasma. As Miles' breath gives out and he lets the flamethrower die, Tak is left with noticeable holes in his ghostly body and a scowl on his face. Miles watches with satisfaction as the spiritomb, still surrounded by wisps of smoke, gags, chokes--and then vomits up a viscous gob of green and purple plasma. Much to the vulpix's disgust, the blob of ghostly energy ripples and writhes, flowing up into the shape of a smaller spiritomb, complete with neon-glowing keystone, that gives Miles an impudent grin.

Intending to wipe the smile right off the substitute's face, Miles closes his eyes, letting natural energy flow through his body and empower him for his next attack. It is more difficult than usual to tap into the essence of life in this strange and largely lifeless place, but Miles is undeterred. Scraping all the energy he can muster together, the vulpix opens his mouth to reveal a swirling mess of green and gold energy, loosely collected into a ball that the vulpix releases at Tak and his substitute. The small spiritomb floats upwards in order to block the main body of the attack. The energy ball explodes upon contact with the ghost construct, blowing a huge chunk out of its plasma body and scattering wisps of ghost flesh and bubbles of green light in all directions. The substitute is left hanging onto existence by no more than a few wisps of energy, most of its keystone and half its face disintegrated. Unperturbed, Tak leans out around it and spews another hissing water pulse at Miles.

Pawing water off his face, the vulpix glares at Tak, his eyes glowing blue as he exerts his occult powers, trying to break into the spiritomb's mind. Though he can see the spiritomb's consciousness in his mind's eye, it lurks behind a thin, opaque veil that Miles, despite his most valiant efforts, is unable ot penetrate. The vulpix bares his teeth and growls as he realizes that the substitute's unstable existence is still enough to protect its master both mentally and physically. By now getting over the flamethrower and realizing that he's safe for the time being, Tak merrily fires off another water pulse. This time, the spinning blast of water throws Miles badly off-kilter, and he staggers around in a daze, a weird ringing in his ears and the arena swimming before his eyes.

Alright. Let's give the Sub a nice Fire Spin to start off with, hopefully killing it. Then attempt Hypnosis again. If it misses, go for Hypnosis again, and if it hits...go for Flamethrower.

Fire Spin~Hypnosis~Hypnosis/Flamethrower

Right. We do have the added bonus of confusion that I wasn't expecting, so that gives us a couple more options.

First, sleep is very bad and annoying. So, if Miles manages to come to his senses and finish off your sub, set up another one. If your sub isn't destroyed, use a return. Next, let's give him another water pulse just to keep him wet and dizzy, then use shadow ball.
Either way, you will suffer through my insomnia with me.

Round Three

Blinking his eyes and shaking his head, Miles tries to focus on his opponent. Tak's grinning face blurs and warps before his vision; sometimes, it looks like there are only two spiritomb staring across at him, and at others, there are as many as six. Shivering and nauseated, Miles grits his teeth and pulls fire up from his flame sac, intending to trap the spiritomb--however many of them there are--in a cyclone of flames. Unfortunately, despite his best efforts, the vulpix can't control his attack. He spits up a few streamers of flame, but most of the attack goes haywire and Miles chokes on his fire attack, gagging and coughing up sooty smoke as the fire spin dies in his throat.

Tak, meanwhile, drifts quietly out from behind his substitute, dragging his heavy keystone along a couple of inches above the polished surface of the tile-covered ground. He descends upon Miles, who is pawing at his face and seems too preoccupied to really notice his tormentor, and lets out some of his high spirits by roughing the vulpix up. The fire-type yips in surprise as Tak's keystone suddenly drops on his head, knocking him to the ground. The attack doesn't end there, though. Tak's gaseous body is, for the moment, solid, and as he leans down over his twitching, confused foe, his ectoplasm twists and spins in its usual merry way, cutting into Miles' flesh like a buzz-saw. The vulpix twists around and yelps, struggling back to his feet and fleeing his opponent. Confusion makes him uncoordinated and sluggish, and though far from fast, Tak keeps up with him well enough, periodically knocking him to the ground with a sideswipe of his glowing body or buffeting the fallen vulpix when Miles trips of his own accord. All the while, Tak chuckles, clearly extremely pleased with himself.

After he collapses for what seems the hundredth time, Miles looks up at his opponent, panic starting to course through his veins. His head is a little clearer for the spiritomb's abuse, but only just; he knows he has to do something to drive the spiritomb off. His command is to use hypnosis, but that wispy substitute is still ghosting along behind Tak, flickering now and then but not ready to give out yet. Still, Miles has to try. Mustering all the mental strength left to him, the vulpix fixes Tak with a blue-eyed stare, ignoring how the substitute quietly slips between himself and his target. Once again, Miles' befuddled state thwarts him, though; he stares until his eyes start to water and his head feels like it's going to explode with pent-up psychic energy, but it's just no good. The hypnosis attack is simply beyond Miles' confused mind, and once again he is forced to let an attack go unfinished, a headache throbbing at his temples.

Tak leans out around his substitute and launches a water pulse at the vulpix, just to add insult to injury. Miles staggers sideways at just the wrong moment and the attack only glances off one shoulder, but it is still more than enough to drop the confused vulpix. Rather than clearing his head, the blast of frigid water only makes him feel more sick and confused, and he doesn't even try to get up, lying in the puddle created by the attack and staring up at Tak with wild eyes.

Miles' eyes start to glow blue again, but Tak ignores him. Even if the vulpix manages to form a decent hypnosis attack, his substitute will protect him, so he has nothing to fear. The spiritomb concentrates on his next attack, jagged mouth gaping open as he channels ghostly energy into the air in front of him. A wobbly ball of purple energy bubbles into being, shot through with lurid crackles of green light. The blue glow flashes out of Miles' eyes and the vulpix whimpers, putting his paws over his face--another failure. Tak grins behind his growing shadow ball, then adds to the vulpix's misery by launching the crackling attack at his opponent. The shadow ball strikes Miles in the side, and he slides back across the slick tiles, the fur around the area of impact turning a sickly purple-brown color as the shadow ball eats into his body. When he comes to rest, Miles lies still save for the occasional tremor, utterly miserable and dispirited.
