Kratos Aurion vs MurrMurr

Arena: Outside the Battle Arena
The battle takes place right outside the Battle Frontier's Battle Arena facility, out in the open air. The immediate area is covered in nicely manicured grass and a few flowers. The Arena building itself is surrounded on three sides by water and a small pond sits on the other side of the battlers, so water moves can be used and Water-types that need to swim can do so. The battlers cannot move away from the immediate area, so heading towards the plaza or another facility is forbidden. Maps of the general area can be found on this page.

Since this match is happening so close to the Arena, it seems such a shame not to follow Greta's rules... or, at least, a variation on them. As such, both battlers will send out their Pokémon and attack for three battle rounds (a total of 9 attacks per Pokémon) before the ref calls a halt. After the three rounds both Pokémon are recalled and unable to continue in the current battle, and their current health, energy and status are noted for later. Both trainers will then send out their next Pokémon and continue for the next three rounds. At the end (which should be nine total rounds), the health and energy of all Pokémon is totaled and whichever trainer has the highest score wins.

The following rules also apply:

-If a Pokémon has fainted, either due to HP loss OR energy loss, the battle stops right where it is (even if it has not yet been three rounds) and both Pokémon are recalled. Fainted Pokémon DO still count toward the final score, but as either their health or their energy is at 0% they won't add anywhere near as much.

-If, at the end of the three rounds, a battler is afflicted with a status condition, that condition detracts from their final score as follows:

Paralyzed, Burned, Confused: -10 points
Poisoned, Attracted: -15 points
Asleep, Frozen: -20 points
If the Pokémon has more than one status condition, only the first one they were afflicted with detracts full points; all others afterwards only detract five, no matter what they are.

Experience is determined like this: all Pokémon get the usual 1 experience point for being sent into battle, and if one Pokémon actually knocks another out it will get the 1 experience point as normal. If neither Pokémon faints at the end of three rounds, the one with the lower score is considered knocked out for the purposes of experience and so the one with the higher score would get the extra 1 exp.

Adonis, clearly the faster of the two, begins to retch up whatever he’d had for lunch that day. It takes a while – it appears rather big, and you can see it passing through his body – before it passes out his unhinged jaw and lands on the cracked earth below him. And, oddly enough, the thing before him seems to look like an exact copy of Adonis. Even more, it raises its purple head and licks the air before crawling to Adonis’s side; the two are indistinguishable.

Syrup roles his eyes, clearly unimpressed. He yawns widely as he moves to the side, leaving a sticky pile of sludge where he had previously been. And unsurprisingly, the sludge pops up, growing arms and a mouth and even eyes. It glances at its creator before breaking into a grin – battle! Fun!

Adonis appears equally unimpressed. He focuses, his mind losing interest in the battle; instead he stores aside some of his energy, as he’d done with his health, saving it for later use. He can still feel the energy in him, but it’s like it’s separate from him at the same time – he can’t access it in the same way. And yet, somehow, he feels stronger from it. Satisfied from this, he opens his eyes and regains interest in whatever the grimer is doing.

But he can’t see him. He can see some slime where Syrup had previously been, and… a hole. And he can feel a strong vibration in the earth, heading his way. He licks the air, tasting it; the grimer’s taste is too strong to locate…

… But he doesn’t have to. Syrup pops out of the earth, slamming into Adonis’s dummy and tossing it aside. The substitute barely manages to raise itself off the ground; it looks warily at the grimer and then at Adonis, slowly crawling towards the ekans. The grimer’s own substitute follows him, climbing out of the hole and smirking at the devastation his master had created. Adonis appears less giddy; in fact, he’s rather annoyed at the grimer for harming his substitute.

So rude. The ekans slithers forwards, raising his upper body in preparation for attack. Syrup stares up at the enormous snake, suddenly afraid – and rightfully so. Adonis slams his upper body down, expecting to hit Syrup, but the grimer’s substitute quickly jumps forwards and takes the impact. Syrup sighs with relief as his substitute is nearly destroyed; it only barely manages to recollect itself while Adonis slithers quickly away, hissing at the two grimer.

Syrup pauses before attacking. He’s a tad unsure of his command; there were two substitutes, and one of them is certainly broken. But his isn’t. Should he use Double Team or Mud Bomb? He stares blankly at Adonis for several moments before he randomly decides on an attack.

As fast as he can, the grimer begins to slide forward, leaving an oozing trail of slime behind him. He starts off slow but quickly picks up speed, circling around Adonis while his substitute followed close behind. As he reached maximum speed, he appeared to duplicate himself into several more – 2 more, or maybe 3, it was hard to tell with the substitute. Syrup quickly slowed down and glanced at his trainer; he was unsure if he’d done okay, but he tried.

OK, Syrup. I need you to one-turn Dig the entire round. If he protects, Chill. If you are inconvenienced by some means other than Protect (and not counting the Substitute he has up now, Acid Armor. But, if it's the last action and he inconveniences you similarly, Double Team for one more clone.

Ekans learns Earthquake and I'm really not sure why, but who cares--spam the hell out of it. Chances are you won't catch Syrup underground, but either way it should hurt. Like, a lot. (Ask Kratos.) Should also take care of any clones and substitutes in short order.

Earthquake x3

Adonis flicks his tongue out at Syrup and the grimer’s clones, clearly pleased at his commands. Before the grimer has a chance to move, the ekans raises his upper body, slamming it heavily onto the worried earth. And as it did for the gible before, the ground shook to the ekans’ command, cracking further and trembling wildly. Syrup’s gleeful expression disappears as his two clones shimmer and fade; his substitute goes in much the same direction, falling apart under the pressure of the earthquake and returning to a sloppy, lifeless state. Syrup is at least thankful that it took the brunt of the attack; if the earthquake was powerful enough to get rid of the clones and the substitute, he didn’t want to know what it felt like.

A tad more wary now, Syrup slopped over to his previously created hole, sludging his way across it. He began to dig a new tunnel towards Adonis’s new location, somehow moving the earth aside with his makeshift hands. The ekans knew the grimer was heading his way, as did his substitute – so when Syrup popped out of the earth, he hit the dummy ekans, draining the remaining life out of it and tossing it aside in annoyance. Adonis didn’t care so much this time – he had already considered the substitute as dead, and was simply grateful it had been useful one last time.

But now, Syrup would feel his earthquake, without any protection. Adonis gave a rather creepy grin as he slammed into the ground again, bringing it to life; Syrup felt it more than he cared to admit, clinging to the earth beneath him for dear life as the power of the attack knocked the senses right out of him. He gasped for breath while the ground finally stilled – that hurt!

Wincing, Syrup inched back into his hole, following the former route towards Adonis’s location. He was grateful the ekans was staying in place, and easily hit the ekans, giving it a little taste of its own medicine. Syrup wiped the dirt off his slimey body while Adonis lifted himself off the ground; the energy he had stored earlier had served to protect him somewhat from the brunt of the attack, though it still hurt.

But this would hurt more. This time he whacked the ground with his tail, keeping an eye on Syrup while the earth shook into power. The grimer was once again assaulted by the tremors; he felt so hurt by something that didn’t seem strong at all, just a little shaking, that it was beginning to annoy him. He glowered at Adonis while the earth settled down; sure, it hurt, but it was also just plain annoying.

Pulling himself once again towards that hole, the grimer trudged through the dirt that plagued him so, finding the ekans on the other end of the tunnel and slamming into him. Adonis winced in pain; the repeated attacks were starting to annoy him. Stupid grimer. Still, he knew he was the better Pokémon, so he wouldn’t let an ignorant slime-ball get to him.

Okay, so. Just a little more smash and we should be home free, sweet (and with any luck, as soon as our other battle wraps up you can evolve into an Arbok, mm, yes). Attack with Earthquake again on the first and third action, but Swallow on the second to work around any Torments that might come your way. If you're Taunted, Spit Up instead of Swallow.

Earthquake ~ Swallow/Spit Up ~ Earthquake

OK, Syrup. You are going to suffer. But it'll be cool. First, try to move up the Battle Tower itself to dodge the Earthquake and use Disable to said quake. Then, Mud Bomb if Earthquake missed, but if it hit use Swagger to induce some status. Since Ekans will do nothing next turn, go ahead and Rest.

Adonis smiles with satisfaction as he smashes his tail into the cracked earth, waking it back to life. Syrup moans as his already aching body is shaken even further; the repeated earthquakes are more than enough to get on his nerves, quite literally. He tries to escape by crawling up the Battle Tower, but he’s far too slow to make it up in time – by the time he reaches the tower itself the earth has already settled down. He glares at Adonis in annoyace.

Well, Syrup isn’t about to give up just yet. His purple body glows a bright white; Adonis is enveloped by the same white colour. The ekans glances at his body in confusion, wondering what’s going on – but as the colour fades, he doesn’t feel any different. Except… except there’s this feeling, like he can’t remember something really important. And it’s nagging at his brain but he just can’t remember it. Syrup smirks bemusedly at the ekans’ confusion; finally, some payback.

Adonis quickly tires of this lost memory, however, and turns to something more interesting. That energy he stored earlier will now serve its purpose; Adonis reaches out inside him, grabbing hold of the energy, and finally uses it. He can feel it spreading throughout his serpentine body, healing his wounds and restoring him to full health. He flicks his tongue out at the grimer, proud – whatever it had done to him didn’t matter, now.

Syrup grumbles in annoyance. Stupid ekans. He’ll show him. His grumbles soon change to words of triumph, as the grimer struts its slime back and forth and poses; he mocks the ekans, saying how extraordinary Syrup is and Adonis just fails in comparison. Adonis’s pride comes to a boiling point at the grimer’s words; he becomes so enraged that all he wants to do is keep smashing forever and ever until the grimer is just a stupid puddle of nothing that can’t move or talk or anything.

But just as fast as his anger came, it fades. Adonis blinks, staring at Syrup, and wonders why he can’t remember the attack he was meant to use – it was supposed to cause such destruction! But he just can’t recall what it was… He stares at the ground, wondering what went wrong.

Stopping his swagger, Syrup slops onto the ground, closing his eyes to the snake. He sighed and was immediately taken away by a deep sleep; all the wounds he’d received from the nasty ekans were being healed rapidly, at an extreme cost to his energy. He mumbled as he felt himself grow more tired; sleep was supposed to replenish your energy, not sap it away.

Not that it mattered. A whistle blew, declaring this the end of the battle; as before, both Pokémon were withdrawn into their Pokéballs. It was all up to the numbers now.
