• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Suddenly I felt like making this arena.

3vs3 Singles (willing to make it 2vs2)
Style: Set
DQ: 7 days
Damage Cap: 50%
Banned Moves: OHKOs, moves that require water bodies
Arena: A City Ablaze

The firefighting brigade has officially claimed that the fires were beyond their control. An immediate evacuation was ordered. However, as most citizens hastily packed their belongings, three outsiders insisted to stay upon a balcony, even if the blaze approached them. Two had a fierce resolve to stage a battle; one had qualification to be a referee and a newfound fondness of heat. By the fifth round of the battle, the building upon which the balcony is based will start burning; at this point, if both trainers agree to it, they may choose to make no commands for one round, using it to flee and find a safer place to keep the battle going. If they refuse to leave until Round 7, they will reach the point in which they will be forced to run. From there on, the referee may introduce similar situations whenever he/she/it wishes (If they wish to introduce none, they are perfectly allowed to, of course).

Other: Pokémon that need a body of water to stay on cannot be used.

Yes, it’s someplace boring. So boring, in fact, that whoever discovered it couldn’t be arsed to think of a name for it. So why are a whooping four trainers congregating here to have a battle? Because we can’t be zipping around with Adrenapacks or swiping Pokemon from another trainer’s party or getting drunk at bars in Manhattan every day. There’s only so much excitement and exhilaration a citizen of Asber can contain before they implode.

Anyway, moving on with the actual description. Someplace Boring is a large, grassy field dotted with trees and small lakes. The trees are generally rather large, with thick, spreading branches crowned with thickets of leaves. While sturdy, the trees obviously have a limit, and branches can be snapped off with powerful attacks or simply sheer weight. The lakes, though small, are large enough to accommodate the average water Pokemon, and can supply water for moves such as Surf.

The ground is easy on the feet: lush, soft, and springy. It’s easily torn, though, so Pokemon will have no trouble using Dig and the like. Additionally, there is enough sand and small debris to go around, enabling the use of Sand Attack, Sand Tomb, etc.

Notes: The teams will be arranged as follows: me (blazheirio889) with Fish and Ships versus RandomTyphoon and Kammington. En garde!

Don’t worry, Phalanx isn’t going to be in this.

And, ending the large string of quotes, I'm picking this battle up.

Issuing a Challenge to anyone who wants one...

3vs3 single
Style: Set
DQ: Standard week
Damage Cap: 40%
Banned Moves: OHKO's, Destiny Bond, Explosion and Selfdestruct
Arena: (Not-so) Calm Clearing

This battlefield is a pretty standard clearing with a lake to one side, surrounded with forest. Any stray Fire attacks have a chance of setting the surrounding trees on fire, which will potentially cause problems if the fire is allowed to get out of hand. Fire will cause the area to heat up to very high temperatures, causing most non-Fire types to have a hard time. If, within 3 rounds, a fire is not put out, angry tribesmen from the settlement beyond the forest will (somehow) make their way to the Clearing and attack both Pokemon, they will leave after attacking. This will happen every 3 rounds afterwards until the fire is put out.

I have recieved permissions from both Blasty and Linooney for this arena.

5 vs 5 (will make 4 vs 4 or 3 vs 3 if anyone wishes me too)
Style: Set
DQ: 10 days
Damage Cap: 35%
Banned Moves: OHKO's, Anything that kills user if it is last Pokémon, Embargo, 4 shills/Pokémon
Arena:Jello Square of Gigantism

To indulge my love of all things Jello and Crazy Linoone's obsession with food-based fields, the following field has been made;

A humongous, wiggling, jiggling, shivering cube of gelatin, plopped down in the very deserted clearing that once held an oversized, piping-hot blueberry pie. The slippery surface of the delectable dessert itself is divided in half, each half a color of a battler's choosing. Any Pokémon that would be otherwise forced to fall off of the battlefield will be stopped by the mystical Jello spirits protecting the area and lifted back up. The arena itself is large enough for a battle between a couple of Snorlax, with room to spare.

Every round, the Jello flavor on the field will change. The changes are as follows, and each has a 10% chance of happening:

Clear- No effect.
Cherry- +1 attack to anyone who eats it.
Blue Rasberry- +1 defense to anyone who eats it.
Strawberry- +1 special attack to anyone who eats it.
Lime- +1 special defense to anyone who eats it.
Piña Colada-tov Cocktail- Explosive; causes roughly 5% typless damage if thrown, plus the normal damage taken from a projectile; highly combustable and causes mild heartburn if consumed.
Root Beer- Causes all Pokémon (and trainers) to float slightly and weigh one-fourth of normal weight for the entire round.
Coffee- Gives standard level of energy for a chill and does not count towards chill counter. Causes mild confusion three actions after consumption.
Green Tea- Cures any status effects other than Freeze and Attracted when eaten. Gives 5% health to all pokémon the first time it appears.
Pudding- The field turns to Jello-brand pudding for the round, but magically retains its cube shape, except on the top. -1 speed to Pokémon.
Watermelon- Increases the power of all projectile attacks by x1.5.

There is an equal chance of all of the flavor changes, but if the referee rolls the same flavor as the previous round, he/she/it must reroll until a different one is randomly selected. In addition, chills are replaced by the order to eat jello, which replenishes the same amount of energy as a chill would.

Other: Large puddles of melted jello will be automatically provided for water-dependent Pokémon. These can also be requested at the release of any Pokémon. Any and all water-type moves will immediately turn to jello-juice as it leaves the user's various orifices, and moves like Surf (which are fueled by a rather large part of the field liquifying) will form out of liquified gelatin. Arena: Pictochat (Based off SSBB)

Pictochat is, and always will be, a strange and unreal dimension where things can appear and disappear at whim. Although the cause of such strange objects and phenomenon appearing in the dimension in unknown, scientists speculate it is the cause of a much larger powers, presumably for communication or for their own personal humour. Usually, however, the arena is completely flat, and is a simple square board in the middle of said dimension.

Arena Effects:
Around the beam is an endless expanse of nothingness, and any pokemon that is thrown off will simply take 3% typeless damage and be transported back on.

At the beginning of every second round, a random number between 1 and 100 will be generated. The arena will change accordingly.

1 – 10: The arena returns to it's normal state, if not in it's normal state already.

11 – 20: Two large fireballs appear, suspended in the air. Touching such fireballs will be the equivalent of a 70 base power STAB-ed Fire move coming from a fully evolved pokemon. If the user is weak to fire, they will also lose their move for that action, if not completed already (Flinch go!)

21 – 30: A Minecart appears on a wide U-shaped track supported by beams. The cart may move fairly slowly, but being made out of ChuckNorris-ium, the cart is incredibly powerful and touching it will cause 8% typeless damage, no questions asked. The toucher is also sent flying, and therefore, loses their move for that action, if they have not yet completed it (Known as flinching in the land of pogeymans).

31 – 40: A rain cloud appears, and all weather effects are changed to rain. Any previous weather effects do not return when the rain passes.

41 – 50: A huge wind picks up, cancelling all actions for that round and dealing the equal of a nonSTAB-ed 20 Base Power Flying move coming from a fully evolved pokemon to all current battlers.

51 - 60: A large brick wall appears in the middle of screen, forming a staircase like shape. Pokemon can climb upon the staircase and execute their attacks as normal. If fired from on the staircase, Ground type attacks do 1% more damage, and Electric type attacks cost 1% less energy. It is impossible to destroy the wall.

61 – 70: A giant Wailord using Water Spout appears in the middle of the arena, but is simply a drawing. Pokemon can climb upon the Wailord. If on the water spout, pokemon whom are weak to water take 4% damage for each action they are upon it. Pokemon with Water Absorb gain half of the health they would normally gain from a water-attack.

71 – 80: A drawing of a human head appears on the right side of the arena, and a human hand, presumably belonging to the same body as the head, appears on the left side. The head is extremely large, approximately 3 charizards high and can be stepped upon. The hand is slightly smaller, about two-thirds the side of the head.

81 – 90: A picture of a boat appears next in the middle of the arena, with a cloud-like base supporting it. There is a flag in the middle that serves no purpose, save decoration. Pokemon onboard the boat are immune the ground attacks (basically they gain levitate), unless the move is executed on the boat.

91 – 100: The arena returns to it's normal state, if not in it's normal state already.

Anyone up for a trip to the Islands?
1-vs-1 Single
Style: Set
Damage Cap: 40%
Banned: Fire types, Ice types.
"Cruise number fourty-two to board." Two trainers peacfully got on their ferry; a Seagallop Model, sailing out of Kanto, headed for Hoenn. The ship had a run-in with a Wailord, however, causing it to make a stop at six island. After three days being bored outta their minds, two trainers decide to have a battle at a smaller island a few hundred feet out. The island is perfect for water and ground pokémon; ground and water moves are upped by 2%. The moist ground allows water Pokemon to forgo the need for a pond. There is a few bushes to the left and the island is speckled with Coconut and Pinapple trees. These fruits are a bit more than meets the eye, though. There are 10 coconuts and 5 pinapples in all.
Coconuts are fairly light, and using them only costs 2% energy. They have a 25% chance of being explosive, however, dealing 6% damage to the unlucky eater, or the target of the throw. They have a 75% chance of being good, restoring 4% health upon eating, or having it thrown at you.
Pinapples are very hard on the paws, costing 4% health to handle them, with no energy loss. They have a 75% chance of being explosive, dealing 8% damage to the eater or target. Although the 25% chance of it being edible is a risk, pinapples are very energizing; restoring 8% energy and 6% health to the eater or target.
