THIS IS HOW WE BLEED
[On Hold] St. Ignacerta's Towers [OOC/Signup]
The vast kingdom of Kaves is a lush and beautiful place. Sprawling evergreen forests, sparkling lakes, and varied and majestic wildlife all fill the kingdom with wonder...but also great danger. Away from the single large city at Kaves's heart, tiny villages train their youngsters in the ways of the wild, and how to bond with the natural and magical beasts around them.
The villages hunt, farm, and fish to feed themselves, and trade in goods rather than money. The people learn to fight from an early age, since the small humans are weak compared to the wild beasts, ranging from the common bear and cougar, to the powerful and exotic chimera or roc, and the rarest of them all...the dragon. Kavean dragons are an elusive breed, with snakelike bodies and broad wings, slender arms and keen eyes. They grow to massive sizes, and even then are almost never seen. To see a dragon is said to predict a good long life, as the beasts will rarely bless a human with their presence.
There are rumours of a place where hundreds, even thousands of dragons gather at once; the massive towers build long ago by a mysterious man named St. Ignacerta. The towers are said to dwarf even the tallest of trees and burn with never-dying dragon flame, and dragons are said to lay there eggs in such places. But despite the rumours, not a single soul has seen a tower since Ignacerta built them with his powerful magic thousands of years ago. Some young ones will harbour fantastic dreams of finding these towers and perhaps stealing a dragon's egg from within the magical flames...but such dreams tend to be short-lived, as many who search for them never come back.
Perhaps you harbour this dream. As a young person in the tiny village of Arabi, you have heard the stories, but may have not given them much thought, like many of your elders, or you may desire nothing more than to find the towers and the glory that comes with such a discovery. Or perhaps you have lived long in the village, keeping the dream hidden, but alive. Whatever your age, something is giving off a great pulling force, a need, to certain people in the village to find the towers. These people most often have a connection of some sort to the dragons; a sighting, a dream, a story that stayed with them their whole life...something strong and clinging that refuses to be shaken off.
[holy infodump batman]
Village life is not usually very exciting; playing about and doing small tasks as a young child, perhaps helping in the fields as you get a bit older, until one of the most important events in your life. After reaching 17 years of age, children become adults, and take part in the Marking Ceremony. They are given a weapon to hunt and fight with, and bonded to the unique mount of the area around Arabi; the Colma.
Colma are very intelligent creatures, though quiet and unable to speak the human tongue. Communicating in churrs and growls, the new adult will quickly learn to understand their bond Colma. The creatures are massive in size, growing to more than 30 hands tall in some cases, and covered in a shaggy smoky grey fur, though individuals have been known to be darker or lighter on occasion. They are dotted with stripes of nearly any colour, from white to vibrant purple, and their long, thick claws match the shade. They have tufted ears that range from floppy and small to large and bat-like, and round, lamp-like yellow eyes. They rarely show teeth except when surprised, angered, or scared, and when they do, the grin is wide and full of sharp teeth.
Along with a Colma partner, the child is also bonded with another child of the same age, give or take a year or two. These two are chosen judging by how close they were before the Ceremony, and they do everything together. The pair will live together, hunt together, and so on.
