Format: 3 vs. 3, Single

Disqualification Period: 1/2 Fortnight

Field: Carnivorous Island (or, alternatively, Pi's Island)
Our next Island stop takes us to a large Island, about a couple of miles radius, floats in the Pacific Ocean. Yes, floats. The Island is made up of a large clump of algae. Trees are seen on the algae, however, these are only an extension of the algae. If a Pokémon eats the Algae (in the daytime), they recover 4% health and energy. Grass typed moves recieve a 1.25x Damage Bonus As you walk further into the Island, you can see Meerkats Sentret. Thousands, or maybe millions of them. On this Island, they seem to be scavangers, eating dead fish that appear in the nearby freshwater pools, but are harmless. These pools are large enough to accomidate even a Wailord, even though it probably could not move well.
At night (the even-numbered turns), the algae turns acidic, and all of the Sentret run up trees to get away. A Pokémon stuck on the ground or in the pools takes 10% damage every turn. Climbing the trees counts as an action.

Way out in the Pacific Ocean, an unusual island floats. Composed primarily of algae, it makes for a beautiful sight. Large pools of freshwater glisten in the bright sun, spoiled only by the ragged bodies of dead Magikarp floating about. The island's inhabitants have no complaints there though, as the thousands of Sentret feast on the unfortunate fish.
At the shore of the island, a strange distortion ripples the air, and in a flash of psychic energy, three people and an Abra abruptly appear out of nowhere.
The Abra sleepily flicks its tail, feeling quite satisfied with himself from his good work. He looks expectantly at the three humans, who are more interested in taking in the sights around them.
The island is alive with movement: seemingly endless waves of Sentrets dart around madly, not paying the three visitors any mind. However, they do appear to keep their distance, and any curious young one is quickly pulled away by its parents.

As Byrus leads the transportation abra to a safe spot, Sage Noctowl sends out his first Pokémon. He throws a Pokéball onto the algae, and a Poochyena appears in a bright flash of light. The little canine yips in excitement, pleased to experience her first battle. As Poochyena sniffs curiously at the strange ground, Ultraviolet sends out her own battler.
A female Nidoran soon appears in a similar flash of white light, twitching her ears and drinking in her interesting surroundings. Poochyena’s ears prick up when she sees her opponent, and she growls briefly before shuffling around on the funny green stuff.

With their transport safely out of harm’s way, the referee returns, and the two trainers ready their commands.

Round one

As the ref signals for the battle to begin, Gwen quickly tears her gaze away from the beautiful scenery to see what her opponent is up to. The Poochyena is growling at her, edging cautiously over the strange ground and watching her step. Gwen hastily prepares a defensive stance, her small, poisonous barbs bristling.
Poochyena doesn’t move any closer however, and instead plants her paws firmly on the squishy ground. She opens her mouth, exposing her glistening fangs, and a ghostly, ethereal orb of purple and black energy begins to form. The eerie orb swirls as it builds up, before Poochyena spits out the shadowy mass with a muffled bark.
Gwen looks up uncertainly, then quickly makes an effort to kick the shadow ball back before it hits. However, her paws simply pass right through it and the ghostly energy scatters over her in a shower of purple and black. Gwen winces as it burns into her skin, briefly engulfing her in shadows before fading into nothingness.

Poochyena grins toothily at her opponent, who is shaking her head and looking perplexed. She wastes no time in opening her mouth to repeat the attack, quickly building up the swirling ball of shadows.
Gwen looks up irritably, and upon catching sight of her opponent’s open jaws, begins to crouch down, her barbs bristling out again. This time….
As Poochyena fires the shadow ball, Gwen tries to bat the attack back towards her opponent, but spits in frustration as her efforts yield the same results. The shadow ball burns into her skin again, drawing a yelp of pain from the Nidoran and leaving an angry blackened mark on her skin.

Yipping gleefully at her work, Poochyena readies up a third shadow ball. Her confidence has already soared, although she wouldn’t mind a little variety in her commands…
As Gwen gingerly inspects the mark on her side, Poochyena blasts out a third shadow ball. Her jaws are feeling a bit tingly from generating so much ghost energy in such a short space of time, but she’s too hyped up to be bothered by it.
Gwen jerks her head up quickly as she hears the eerie whoosh of the approaching attack. Looking very agitated by now, she struggles to get into a defensive stance, but the shadow ball blasts into her again, bypassing her defenses.
Gwen flails about furiously, batting away the ethereal shadows, but quickly calms down as the pain sets in. Embarrassment also begins to set in, as she examines her failure. Giving the blackened mark on her skin a quick glance, she avoids looking into her opponent’s eyes, silently promising revenge.

Meanwhile, the flurry of movement from the Sentrets becomes more frantic. A number of scouts are standing upright on their bushy tails, emitting loud calls. The sea of furry critters begins to band together, darting to and fro, gathering around the base of the tree trunks.
The two battlers don’t pay much heed to the increased noise, but they do glance up as the sky begins to darken. The bright sunlight beaming down slowly begins to weaken, and a slight chill is noticeable in the air.

- Uh, there was a pretty big loophole in Gwen’s commands. Felt a bit funny reffing that, but the commands were very clear cut and the conditions were clearly wrong for Gwen’s other option. Feel free to ask Negrek if you don’t think the reffing was fair.

no it's entirely my fault for posting commands at about three in the morning. >.< I realised my mistake as soon as Sage Noctowl posted his commands and by then it was too late to change it, so don't worry about it. :|

Round two

The Sentrets have made her their way to the trees, skittering upwards effortlessly with their busy tails wagging. As the last few Sentrets nestle snuggly in the tree tops, the sky turns completely black, with only the silvery moon and a few stray stars offering any light.
The two battlers are perturbed by the abrupt change, but they don't have much time to dwell on it, as the ground beneath their feet is undergoing a transformation too.

Poochyena yelps as she suddenly feels a sharp, burning pain under her paws, and hops about frantically. Gwen cringes as she feels the same burn under her feet, and as she looks down, she sees the algae has noticeably darkened in colour. Gwen tenses, trying to ignore the unpleasant sensation, and abruptly darts forward in one swift motion just as Poochyena looks up.
As Gwen runs, her form begins to flicker and distort, and two identical clones form in her wake, copying their creator’s twists and turns. Gwen grinds to a halt as she examines her work, and nods approvingly. She turns her attention to the ground again, trying in vain to find decent footing as her clones mimic her discomfort.
An abrupt hacking and coughing sound distracts her, and her ears flick up as she turns her attention back to her opponent. The Poochyena is still hopping from paw to paw, mouth open, making a nasty sound in the back of her throat. A purplish black ooze begins to drip from her jaws, which she suddenly spits out at Gwen.
The glob flies towards the middle Nidoran, but Poochyena’s aim is a slightly off, and it instead lands directly in front of her target with a sickening splat. Poochyena growls irritably a she watches the poison burn into the algae with a nasty hissing sound. Dammit, how could she miss? She was right there! Gah, must have been the wind…

None of the Nidorans look particularly concerned by the vile looking toxins, and they abruptly turn tail on their fuming opponent and head for the nearest and lowest tree. Poochyena hastily makes to follow them, wincing as she runs awkwardly over the acidic ground.
Gwen takes a brave jump at the tree, scrabbling madly with her stubby legs and digging her sharp claws into the bark. She manages to hook her front claws in, waving her back legs frantically as she struggles to find her balance.
Despite her discomfort, Poochyena can’t help but smirk at the sight of Gwen’s tiny legs wriggling madly, her clones acting in union. As she watches her struggles, Poochyena picks a random target and hopes her luck will hold. She begins to generate the nasty toxins again, and the purplish black ooze begins to bubble and foam round her jaws. With a nasty hacking sound, she spits the vile mixture at one of the still struggling Nidorans, and it immediately disappears upon contact. The toxins land against the tree, greedily eating into the bark as they drip down.
Gwen ignores the interruption, and finally manages to find her footing, clawing at the bark and making her way to the lowest branch. The climb is tricky, but she finally manages to heft herself onto the lowest branch, firmly digging her claws into the bark. Despite looking a bit worse for wear and out of breath, the two Nidorans look down triumphantly at their grounded foe.

Poochyena’s paws are soon beginning to burn fiercely with pain, and she wastes no time in following her next command. She takes several steps back, before dashing forward to take a running leap.
Her efforts are interrupted however as her sensitive ears are suddenly filled with a horrible, piercing wail. Before she bows her head against the racket, she catches a glimpse of Gwen and her clone wailing in unison, the barbs on their backs bristling fiercely.
Poochyena yips in alarm, zig-zagging wildly as she struggles to regain control. After what seems like forever, the belting sound waves begin to fade, but the ringing and aching in Poochyena’s head remains. Now completely out of sync, Poochyena staggers around drunkenly, shaking her head in an attempt to clear it. The burning ache in her paws doesn’t help matters, but it does remind her of her urgent command. She quickly dashes forward again, but none too gracefully this time, and makes a jump for the tree. Unfortunately, her muddled state causes her to completely mistime her jump and she ends up hitting the trunk face first. With a muffled yelp, Poochyena falls back down onto a tangled mass of acidic algae, which causes her clumsily jump to her feet again.
Despite not feeling too good herself, Gwen can’t suppress a slight chuckle at her opponent’s ruffled fur and dumbfounded look. The Poochyena sways on the spot, occasionally shaking her head and flicking her ears in annoyance, completely lacking her earlier confidence.

Meanwhile, the unusual island begins to change again. The stars start to wink out as the sky brightens and the moon takes on a dim, faded look.
The Sentret notice the shift in atmosphere immediately, and they begin to stir restlessly, jumping from tree to tree and chattering amongst themselves.

Round three

Gradually the island begins to grow light again, and the stinging algae beneath Poochyena's paws also begins to lighten. Some Sentret remain in the trees, while most of them dash down the trunks to play on the ground.

As Poochyena struggles to regain her bearings, Gwen begins to build up a nasty array of toxins. A black, tar like substance with a purplish tint oozes grotesquely from her mouth, which Gwen quickly begins to utilize into making a projectile. She then launches the vile mixture at the unwitting Poochyena, and it strikes her dead on, exploding in a mass of sludge upon contact.
Poocheyna staggers from the force of the attack, just barely managing not to fall over. Whimpering, she tries to shake the thick sludge of her fur, and manages to get the worst of it off, though her fur is still matted with the stuff. The area is left stinging and sore, and Poochyena angrily faces Gwen, trying to ignore the ringing in her ears. She isn’t exactly keen on her trainer’s first command, but if it’s going to dislodge that troublesome Nidoran from her perch…
Taking a few awkward steps back, Poochyena abruptly charges forward head-first, letting out a loud bark. Her path looks a little uncertain for a moment, as she zig-zags around a bit, just barely avoiding a particularly snarled mass of plant life, but she manages to hit her target, ramming the tree trunk. The impact causes Poochyena to cry out in pain and fall backwards in a heap, but is just enough to disturb Gwen’s balance.
Gwen cringes and shakes precariously on her perch, trying to get her grip back and irritably spitting away a few falling leaves that were also dislodged. After a few moments of wobbling and swaying, she loses the battle, and falls off the branch to land in a similar heap to her foe. Lucky for her, the trip back to earth is a short one, and her landing is cushioned by the algae. Her clone falls with her, but it abruptly vanishes upon contact with the ground.

Although a bit shaky from the sudden fall, Gwen manages to get back to her feet a lot faster than her opponent can manage. Although her head butting tactic worked, it did nothing to help her muddled state, and Poochyena doesn’t seem to be aware of her success.
Gwen flicks her ears, surveying her dazed opponent, and then begins to prepare another sludge bomb to drench her with. The purplish black sludge begins to ooze from her mouth as she forms it into a suitable projectile, which she then spits at Poochyena.
By sheer chance, she hits Poochyena in the same place as before, coating her flank in the mess. Poochyena is knocked down completely this time, having only just regained her balance, much to her chagrin. She staggers upright again, quickly trying to shake the mess off. Despite her efforts, her fur is left as matted as ever with the stuff, and worse, the potent mixture has managed to sink into her bloodstream. Poochyena shivers as a feeling of nausea passes over her, leaving her with a nasty sense of dread. She takes a few uncertain steps forward, grimacing at the painful, heavy feeling in her limbs. The ringing in her ears had died down considerably, but her aching head, her stinging flank and messed up fur combined with the sick feeling in her gut has left her in a very bad mood. Sinking her fangs into Gwen definitely doesn’t sound like a bad plan, though she isn’t sure she can pull it off in her current state. She’s certainly willing to give it a go however, and her lips curl into a snarl as she bares her teeth menacingly.
Gwen backs away uncertainly as she sees her opponent’s fierce grin, her confidence flattering a little. Poochyena capitalizes on Gwen's hesitation and lunges forward with a vicious bark, dark energy dripping from her jaws. She manages to sink her fangs into the startled Nidoran’s front right leg, biting down callously, before Gwen abruptly pulls her leg back with a pained cry. Unable to get a good grip, Poochyena is forced to let go, though she is pleased to have finally managed to get in another decent attack.

Cringing, Gwen surveys the damage done to her leg, gingerly placing it down again. She’s relieved to see the damage isn’t too severe thanks to her quick reaction.
Still growling, Poochyena closes in on Gwen, eyes trained directly on her. The elation from her success is short lived, the poison flowing through her veins makes sure of that. The Nidoran still has her head down, but when she raises it, Poochyena is unpleasantly surprised to see a smug grin on her opponent’s face. What?! How could she be smiling after just being savagely bitten?
As if hearing her thoughts, Gwen is quick to inform the Poochyena that her silly little crunch attack barely even did anything. I’m a pretty good actor aren’t I, you dumb little puppy? Gwen calls mockingly, really putting on the theatrics. It’s just one of my many talents!
As she continues her gloating, Poochyena’s confusion turns to anger. The nerve of that girl! With an enraged howl, Poochyena furiously charges at Gwen, determined to show her a thing or two.
However, Poochyena’s rage-filled attack is un-coordinated and clumsy, and Gwen easily manages to side-step out of the way. Poochyena trips on a tangled patch of algae, landing flat on her face with a muffled bark.
Gwen struggles not to giggle as she watches her fuming opponent leap to her feet for what seems like the millionth time.

- Sorry I'm a kinda late, I've been misreading the DQ time this whole time. Urk. :X
- Normally, I don't think Poochyena would be doing much with that headbutt, but since Nidoran is really light and not a regular tree dwelling creature, I figured it would be just enough. Obviously Poochyena took a bit of damage from it, and Gwen took a bit from her fall.
- The second sludge bomb poisoned Poochyena.
- Nidoran is faster than Poochyena, so Gwen managed to get her swagger on before Poochyena could taunt.

I want you to get up the tree on your first action before she manages to Super Fang you and before you can take damage from the acid. Once you're up there, wait for her to get up there and scamper over to her tree and Double Kick her out of the tree. If you can't manage it on the second action, try again on the third; she'll be chilling anyway. If you manage to kick her off on the second action, try and gnaw at the trunk of the tree (not enough to break it though!) and try to recover some health/energy, because the trees are an extension of the algae anyway.

Round four

Gwen quickly turns tail, ready to put some distance between herself and her seething opponent, then takes a running leap at the nearest tree. She manages to hook her front claws in before risking a backward glance, and it isn’t pretty. The furious Poochyena barks madly, and makes a bee-line for her foe. The sting of the acidic algae hinders her course however, making her movement more difficult and awkward, buying Gwen precious seconds.
Gwen redoubles her efforts, managing to scramble up the bark, and stretches out a clawed paw determinedly towards the nearest branch. As Gwen manages to grab a hold of it, Poochyena leaps forward, barking and snapping at Gwen’s back paws, missing by inches. Gwen winces as she feels Poochyena’s teeth scrape her back paw, and hastily hops onto the branch, firmly digging in her claws on her new perch and gripping it tightly.
Poochyena doesn’t land too gracefully from her jump, and bangs her jaw against the trunk in the process. The impact draws a muffled woof from the unfortunate Pokémon, and her anger is replaced by a bit of embarrassment.

Gwen peers down at her opponent, beginning her nervous wait. While still fuming, Poochyena manages to gain some control of her anger, and realises her mad rushes aren’t working. Her smarting jaw tells her that much.
Gritting her teeth, she hops over the stinging plants and chooses the tree next to Gwen to climb up on. She places her paws against the trunk, but pauses as a feeling of nausea washes over her, a reminder of the nasty toxins dogging her. Willing the horrible feeling to pass, she leaps at the trunk and begins to ascend in a manner similar to Gwen’s first attempt. Bits of bark pepper the air as she claws her way up, panting a little from the effort.
Gwen tenses as she watches Poochyena scrambling up the tree, getting herself ready. After what seems like forever, Poochyena makes it to the branch, immediately wrapping her front and back legs around it in an effort not to fall. She looks far from comfortable in her awkward position and the sour expression on her face makes her displeasure clear.
Gwen makes her move, delicately moving along the branch she’s perched on, before leaping to the next one. She slowly moves to the very tip of the branch, trying to get as close as possible to her opponent in her neighbouring tree. Poochyena watches her efforts warily, and utters a low, angry growl at the hated Nidoran. Gwen tenses nervously, readying herself for a big jump. It isn’t easy for her to get into a good offensive position on the branch, and she teeters alarmingly a couple of times, but she eventually manages. Taking a deep breath, Gwen leaps towards Poochyena, much to her foe’s surprise, and then kicks her straight on the nose. Poochyena utters a startled yelp of pain, and the shock causes her to release her grip on the branch. She tumbles over sideways, and before Gwen can even get in her second kick, she falls right off the branch. The impact of her attack sends Gwen backwards, and left with no target for another strike, she lands badly on the branch. For a moment, she struggles in vain to get a decent hold, but quickly ends up tumbling down to earth with her opponent.

Both of the earthbound Pokémon get back to their feet quickly, spurred by the acidic ground. Poochyena takes a deep breath and tries to ignore her opponent until she catches a quick break. The pain in her paws doesn’t make it easy however (also, her nose is seriously smarting now), and she finds herself shifting around restlessly.
Looking a bit crestfallen at the mixed results of her last move, Gwen approaches the nearest tree, hotfooting it over the algae. She looks at it apprehensively, before taking a tentative bite out of the trunk. Almost immediately, she ends up spitting it out in disgust as the horrible, acidic taste burns her mouth.

Needless to say, both Pokémon are relieved to see the night begin to fade again, signalling the change of the algae. The noisy chatter of the Sentrets continues, but neither battler pays much attention to the harmless critters.

Other notes

- I forgot about Poochyena's attack boost last round from swagger, sorry about that. Luckily, it didn't affect anything.
- Poochyena rolled confusion on the first action, just in case that wasn't clear.
- Gwen's double kick outa the tree tactic was a bit hard to describe, I hope everything is clear. She only landed one kick, so it did half the damage.
- Gwen didn't restore health/energy from the algae because it was in its acidic stage. She lost a little bit of health from it.
- The sting from the algae caused Poochyena to restore slightly less energy from chilling than she normally would have.
- Since both Pokémon weren't on the algae for all three actions, they didn't take the full 10% damage. I'm basically calculating it at around 3% damage per action on the ground.
- I've been messing around with the format a bit, but I think I'm satisfied with this. Let me know if it's annoying to you.
- Phew, hope I didn't miss anything.

Round five

As the islands grows light again, both Pokémon are relieved when the algae under the aching feet loses its acidic touch. Although the Sentret still keep their distance, a few curious ones have turned their attention on the battlers, seeming to notice how heated the battle has become.

After Gwen spits out the last flecks of algae from her mouth, she quickly takes an offensive stance, still looking a bit disgusted. Upon seeing Gwen’s move, Poochyena quickly rises to her feet again after her quick break, cautiously eyeing her.
The barbs on Gwen’s back bristle as she readies herself, before she abruptly darts forward with an angry hiss, fangs bared. Poochyena growls, feeling her lingering anger bubbling back to the surface, and faces Gwen with her own toothy greeting. Her confidence flatters a little however when she sees Gwen’s sharp front fangs glowing with white hot energy, and she grimly prepares herself for a world of hurt as she realises what’s coming.
With an angry snarl, Gwen puts a last burst of energy into her attack, and flings herself at Poochyena, sinking her front teeth into her opponent’s right side. Poochyena howls in pain as pure energy bursts from Gwen’s fangs, sending waves of pain shooting through her body. After the energy fades, Gwen releases her hold, leaving bloody tooth marks in her wake. Poochyena’s pained howl trails off into an angry snarl, and much to Gwen’s shock, she abruptly turns on her and sinks her own fangs into the Nidoran’s shoulder. Black strands of dark energy drip from her jaws as she struggles to tighten her hold, while Gwen hisses in pain and furiously squirms away. She is pleasantly surprised when Poochyena lets go more easily than earlier, and quickly back pedals before her foe can get back her grip.

As Gwen backs off, she is pleased to see that Poochyena definitely looks the one worst off from the scuffle. The canine is panting heavily, her ears drooping, and her tail between her legs. Trying not to whimper, Poochyena gingerly licks the bite marks on her side, while trying to keep an eye on what Gwen is doing.
Although she isn’t feeling too hot herself, Gwen feels a tad more confident upon seeing her opponent’s weakened state, and quickly seeks to follow up her success. Taking a deep breath, the Nidoran exhales a swirling column of water at Poochyena, which drenches her and sends her spinning from the force.
Yelping, Poochyena teeters around drunkenly, shaking her head and flicking her ears. After a few moments, Gwen is little crestfallen to see her opponent gradually recover from the watery blast and regain her balance. The weary, disgruntled Poochyena shakes her sodden fur, gaining a tiny bit of relief from the fact that the last of the muck from the earlier sludge bombs has finally washed away. The poison in her bloodstream is another matter entirely however.
Gritting her teeth, Poochyena turns to face Gwen and tries to make herself look more confident than she feels.
Hey you! Poochyena calls, and Gwen’s ears prick up, slightly surprised by her opponent’s tone.
You think you’ve got me on the ropes? Well, listen up you wimp… Poochyena’s insults sound a little weak at first, but she quickly gets into it, putting real gusto and venom behind her remarks. For a moment Gwen stares dumbly, perplexed at how quickly the injured Poochyena’s demeanour changed. However, she ends up taking the bait (a very cruel jab at her mum seemed to do the trick), and begins snarling furiously, determined to finish the ignorant Poochyena off once and for all.

Completely ignoring her trainer’s orders and throwing caution to the wind, Gwen recklessly charges towards Poochyena, claws and teeth at the ready. What little pleasure Poochyena managed to derive from her taunting quickly fades as she sees her angry, bristling opponent barrel towards her.
Before Poochyena can brace herself, Gwen is upon her, flailing wildly and knocking them both backwards in a tangle of limbs. Poochyena reacts as quickly as she can, and sinks her dripping fangs into the enraged Nidoran’s left flank. Gwen shrieks in anger and pain, abruptly backing off, but still not exactly looking like she’s in a good mood. Poochyena falls down on her haunches, panting heavily, and whimpering a little despite herself. She’s really wishing that dratted Nidoran would just go away at this point, or at least stop giving her that horrible look. Jeez, her insults weren’t that mean. She takes a moment to lick her stinging wounds again, trying to ignore Gwen for the moment.

Meanwhile, the strange cycle of the island continues. A lot of the Sentrets seem a bit disgruntled, having apprently been enjoying the brutal match.

Battle notes

- Poochyena snapped out of confusion by the start of the second action, so she lost the attack boost at that time.
- Poochyena took a bit of damage from Gwen's outburst and Gwen used a little bit of energy for it.
- Man, water pulse is such a random move for Nidoran to be able to learn.
- Sage Noctowl attacks first.

Climb up a tree where she can't get you. Her anger will render her unable to go up a different tree, so if she tries to physically climb up the tree and attack you, Iron tail her to knock her back down. If she doesn't, Sunny Day, then Swagger, in that order.
