Could you make a line like Nidoran, where Pokemon of different genders are considered different Pokemon with the same movepool?

Not really. The whole premise of the fakemon I'm working on is that they can to some extent modify their own bodies as they please. The concept is kind of sketchy to begin with, but. Though each form would have quite significantly-changed level-up and TM moves, a la Deoxys, which will probably also be not allowed.

(...that wasn't directed at me was it)

It's more logical than a fish becoming an octopus, or a mirror into a bell, at any rate. At least to me.

o: Bronzor and Bronzong are actually based on an old Japanese myth, described in this Bulbapedia article. Still doesn't explain Remoraid to Octillery, but I thought people might find it interesting.

It's probably a little semantic, but I would try to find some other way to unify their design in a way besides being arctic, white and blue. I might sit on it for a while, it'd be a nice challenge...

Remoraid and Octillery are both based on aquatic creatures with handgun mouths, while Bronzor and Bronzong are based on a Japanese legend involving gongs.

No idea; you'll have to wait for Negrek on all that.

Squornshellous Beta

Actually, I didn't see that the thread was updated. Did you post something else that wasn't your line on the first of July, and then edit the line itself in later? How would I know to come in and look for something else if all you did was edit? You actually would've been fine double posting in that case. (If that was actually a new post, then I guess for whatever reason it didn't show up as new for me. *shrug*)

Anyway. I don't think the connection is necessarily any less awkward than remoraid>octillery, carvanha>sharpedo, etc, although starting off with a predatory animal would've made more sense. Regardless, it's not the end of the world.

For the most part they're okay, though I'm iffy on some of the moves. Very few quadrupedal pokémon get swords dance, and those that do are usually grass-type or otherwise in possession of significant blades, like absol. Additionally, I don't think icearor should get dive and earthquake by level up. I understand why a polar bear would be capable of those, but you're introducing too much disparity in the level-up movesets and, well, earthquake generally doesn't show up on the levelsets of non-ground-types--especially not those that don't naturally live anywhere with fault lines. I would choose two moves from arcowlf's set and put them back there instead; it'd be more consistent and more logical.

Icearor also doesn't look like it'd be able to punch reliably with paws like its, and it would probably help if you at least mentioned that it was capable of attacking while standing on its hind legs. Removing at least focus punch would be even better, but... yeah.

Lastly, you didn't list the level at which arcowlf evolves into icearor. That is, unless a double-evolution at level 22 was your intent, in which case no.

Actually, it didn't move up the list for me either, so I posted that. But no, I didn't edit it in.

I'll edit them in later, and no, the level 22 thing wasn't intentional.

Actually, there's not so much disperancy in their Levelsets; the only thing that I can see that Arcowlf has that Icearor doesn't have is Tail Whip, which I fixed, so I just kept Dive. Hope that's OK. I got rid of Swords Dance, but wasn't sure whether to replace it with Cut or Strength; which do you think more appropriate.

Chibbit is, in esscence, a small, white rabbit. It has long fur covering its body, but shorter hair on its head and legs, as a real rabbit would. Its fur is pure white, but it has light blue paws and a light blue patch on its forehead. The insides of its ears and its nose are dark blue. Its eyes are light blue but darker than its paws. When it opens its mouth, it has tiny fangs inside.

Pokédex Data:

  • It has up to eight babies at once and, unusual for a Pokémon, gives birth to live young. It is fiercely protective of its young.
  • The thick coating of fur provides it with excellent thermal insulation. Depsite living in arctic regions, it is as warm as a Torchic to hug.

Arcowlf is a wolf. It has short white fur, which is longer at its ankles and knees. It has a light blue patch on its forehead and a light blue muzzle. It has dull grey eyes. It has a small, dark blue oval gemstone in the centre of its forehead, the same color as the insides of its ears and its nose. Its paws are light blue but darker than its forehead / muzzle. It has larger fangs than its pre-evolved form.

Pokédex Data:

  • It preys on its pre-evolved form Chibbit, among other small Pokémon. It will not, however, eat its own young, which are born live as opposed to hatching from eggs.
  • It has become very rare in recent years, since being hunted near to extinction by native americans who believed that slaying it gave one its bravery and fierceness.
  • Ancient tribes believed that on an aurora on the night of the full moon, it came to cleanse the earth. It is said that its fangs are good luck charms.

Icearor is a polar bear. It has medium-length fur. Its muzzle and forehead are light blue, and it also has light blue patches on its shoulder (?) joints. Its paws are light blue but darker than the other blue parts. Its claws are dark blue, darker than its nose. It has red eyes and a dark blue nose, gem in the center of its forehead and insides of its ears. Its claws and fangs are somewhat exaggerated.

Pokédex Data:

  • Where its fur looks white, this is not the case. Its fur is actually hollow and colorless, and it traps air which very effectively keeps it warm.
  • As the earth warms up slowly, the ice which comprises its home is melting, and it is on the verge of becoming extinct. It is only found in the Arctic.
  • It silently stalks towards its prey and then pounces, loosing an earth-shattering roar. The prey - usually species such as Spheal, Piplup or Seel - has no means of defence. It then gets away before the parent Walrein, Dewgong or Empoleon arrive.
  • By balancing its massive weight carefully, it can stand on its hind legs for long enough to attack. It finds this somewhat difficult, however, and so only does so when necessary.

Notes: It has a gender ratio of 1/4 Female, 3/4 Male, not like it's important here where people choose for themselves. Its name is pronounced 'Ick-ee-are-orr'.

Once again, let's leave the critique to the approvers, please.

Mike the Foxhog

Two stages of three formes is too many, yeah.

Kammington

I'm not sure if the question about nidoran-like families was directed at me or Mike, but if it was the former: if they both have the same movepool, why would they be considered different pokémon instead of different-sex forms of the same species? The nidoran lines have different movepools; if you wanted to do something like that, it would probably be fine.

Also, to everybody who's had a fakemon approved and put into use, it would be great if you could look into getting a summary sprite done of your species, like the sprites that show up of your team members on the summary screen. Just one frame, not animated, to the same dimensions as those. I would give a link to an example and more specific stuff about the dimensions for people who are confused, but this computer has been crippled so that I can't. I'll start contacting people about that individually soon, but for now I thought I would just put it here for anyone who might see it. Future fakemon submissions should include a sprite of that description in addition to the large sprites for each member of a line.

Yes, those little guys.

Also, sorry for not looking at your submission, but I really don't have time today.

Yeah, they seem like a pretty useless addition. I mean, how many people do you know that use them in their profiles?

Actually, I'm willing to bet that that's probably the point--if I had to hazard a guess, I would say that she's going to start asking for the use of smaller images as an additional step in alleviating profile load time. This is the first I'm hearing of it, though, so I don't actually know.

Squornshellous Beta

Sorry, I wasn't clear--I meant that overall there's a pretty big disparity in the levelsets, not just with the last two. There's a greater difference between chibbit and arcowlf. I realize that part of that stems from the fact that one is a cuddly bunny and the other is a predaceous wolf, but it would still be nice if you could tie them together more with just one more shared move or so.

If you really can't think of anything to replace dive then I guess it can stay for now. Strength would probably be a better option than cut, IMO.

Okay, I replaced Arcowlf's Ice Beam with Ice Shard. It's actually the only move other than Charm (hahaha a wolf charming its opponents) that they didn't share, so. I'm hoping the change from Shard to Beam is okay from Arcowlf to Icearor?

Still no images of any reasonable quality; currently looking for an artist, and I'm hoping the person I asked (Alraunne) takes requests.

Physical Description: Wyrmal is long and serpentine with a soft, flexible body. Magma inside of its body gives it a reddish color. Two bright red plumes sprout from the top of its head. Older wyrmal have a few chunks of collected sediment clinging to their bodies here and there.

Pokédex Data:

The magma inside of Wyrmal keeps it warm even in the frigid depths of the ocean. This allows it to swim around the seafloor much faster than the other, slower creatures that live there.

When it is nearing evolution Wyrmal slows down, settling near the hydrothermal vents on the ocean floor. The sediment ejected from the vents collects and solidifies on Wyrmal's body, forming a sturdy shell that is as hard as stone.

Wyrmal hatch near hydrothermal vents on the sea floor and generally do not venture far from them. Their soft, flexible bodies are filled with magma that gives them energy in the cold depths of the sea so that they can move around and catch their food. As the Wyrmal grow older, they no longer have much need to move around; they settle near the vents and begin to collect sediment deposited by the black smokers.

Evolution: Wyrmal -lv35-> Ventorm

Rarity: R8

Images:

ventorm.png
ickz77.jpg
ventorm.png

(Sprite by Alraunne; hideous icon by me.)

Physical Description: Ventorm's long, whitish body seems to grow out of a heavy, rock-like shell of collected and hardened sediment. Its internal magma reserves are stored in this shell. A thick black cloud of sediment and gases (and smoke, if on land) issues from several openings in the shell. Two sets of red plumes grow around its eyes and down its snout, which ends in a beak-like mouth.

Pokédex Data:

Ventorm live at the bottom of the sea. Their heavy, rock-like shells keep them in one place, but they strike at their prey with alarming speed. When threatened, they can retreat into their shells in an instant.

The water stored in Ventorm's body is expelled, along with sediment and noxious gases, from the vents in its shell. It generally cannot spare the water when it is on land, however, and so black smoke can be seen issuing from the vents instead.

By the time Wyrmal evolve into Ventorm, the sediment they collect from the hydrothermal vents has formed into an incredibly strong shell. The soft bodies of the Ventorm become one with the rock-like shells, much like the way a turtle's shell works. They can retract their long necks back into themselves and into the shell for protection; while their rock bases prevent them from moving from the one spot in which they settle, Ventorm can strike out of and pull into their shells incredibly quickly, more than fast enough to catch most prey or avoid attacks.

Even though they have magma in their bodies, as sea creatures Ventorm need to keep hydrated as well. As such, they swallow water all of the time (for filtering out oxygen as well as for regulating their temperature, etc.). The water that Ventorm swallow is combined with minerals and gases they take in from their prey and their environment, and is forced out of openings in their bases in big clouds of sediment, much like the black smoker vents around which they live. When on land they cannot afford to expel all of that water unless they need to do so in battle; as such, during these times thick smoke often issues from their vents instead.

Notes: Ventorm generally can't move from one spot under its own power, although if gravity is working in its favor while on land it could, at least in theory, retract into its shell and attempt to roll clumsily along for short distances. For those of you wondering why it has a base speed higher than shuckle's if it can barely move from its initial position, that was me trying to balance "can't go anywhere" with "well but its body is flexible and can move really fast while in that one spot so".

i forget what we decided on for additional battle requirements so um something

The only other halfway viable ability for wyrmal was swift swim, but I still don't like the idea and so in the end just left it with only magma armor. Water spout (and hydro pump) are also gone from their movesets, and hopefully I've managed to even out the levelsets as well.

Alraunne and Blazhy continue to be awesome and amazing, btw.

Well, the Arctic is pretty rough, yes? And Ice-types don't really fit anywhere, so.

Notes: OMG SOCUTE. But it doesn't stay that way for long, oh no siree. Also, it has a gender ratio of 1/4 Female, 3/4 Male, not like it's important here where people choose for themselves.

Notes: Told you it wouldn't stay cute. It has a gender ratio of 1/4 Female, 3/4 Male, not like it's important here where people choose for themselves. Its name is pronounced 'Arr-coo-wlff'. Also MUST MINIMIZE RESEMBLANCE TO NINETALES.

Re: the little sprites: I know nobody uses them now, and I don't intend for people to use them in their profiles, either. However, *I* need them. You'll see why in a bit.

Regarding the one Kratos did for ventorm: it's fine, but could I get only the first frame of it? I don't want an animated one. Sorry, I know it must have been awful getting it working.

*twitch*

Meh, actually the second frame/animating wasn't the worst part (though it still would've been nice to know beforehand). I'll go edit the single-frame one in there, then.
