Arena: Cliffside Clearing
A half-circle clearing in the middle of a dense hardwood forest about 25 yards in diameter. The grass here is reasonably short in most places, although there are a few spots that could hide a smaller Pokemon. The clearing is bordered on its flat side by a tall cliff face that's rough enough to climb for about fifteen feet, then gets too smooth to get any grip on. The trees are accessible, but if you go too far in, there is a large fence extending all around the arena that is considered impassable. In the center of the clearing is a small pond about ten feet in diameter and seven feet deep, big enough to host most fish-like Pokemon. The water is crystal clear and doesn't seem to have any fish in it, but too much action around it is likely to stir up some mud.

Alright. I'll send out Shinigami. Start with a Swords Dance, and then follow it up with two Zen Headbutts. If the monkey taunts, use Protect, but not twice in a row, and if it protects, use Bulk Up.

Swords Dance/Protect/Bulk Up~ Zen Headbutt/Protect/Bulk Up~ Zen Headbutt/Protect/Bulk Up

Alright MCM, first off I want you to hit them with an Aerial Ace. Because they're boosted, Zen Headbutt is going to hurt. A lot. Let's exploit that with a Counter, shall we? Lastly, let's not get hit by another one and exploit that very obvious loophole and use Taunt so that they're forced to Protect against it.

Aerial Ace ~ Counter ~ Taunt

Away from the hustle and bustle of the city, the cliffside clearing is a peaceful beauty spot. The empty pond glistens in the sunlight, a light breeze ruffles the grass and only the looming cliffside casts any shadow on the place. Soon enough, the silence of the serene scene is broken by the sound of footsteps and loud conversation as the three trainers approach their chosen battle spot.
A few stray rattata in the grass hastily scurry out of the way as they hear the humans arriving, while a couple of foraging Pidgeys quickly follow suit. The clearing is left perfectly empty as the two trainers take their places at each side while the referee takes the middle spot. As Walker and syphondblade both nod to each other, Byrus signals for the battle to begin.

Two pokéballs arc through the air as the trainers choose their Pokémon. Walker begins by sending out a feisty Mankey with an unusual name. The Monkey Pokémon immediately takes a fighting stance, his tail swishing two and fro as he utters his screechy cry.
Syphondblade responds with an equally feisty fighter of his own: a Riolu named Shinigami. As he is released onto the field, the Riolu lets out an excited yip before facing his opponent. TMCM narrows his eyes menacingly as Shinigami materializes onto the field, his spiky fur bristling noticeably.

Round one

As the referee signals for the battle to begin, the edgy Mankey wastes no time in going on the offensive. Before Shinigami can even react, The Mountain called Monkey dashes forward with blinding speed and delivers a lightning fast slash at the Riolu’s exposed paw. Shinigami yelps in surprise, yanking his arm back as fast as he can. He looks at his foe with a renewed sense of caution and rubs his right arm, before he hastily recalls the steps to his first move.
Shinigami begins a fast and frantic dance, his form becoming a blue blur as he pounds out the well known war dance.
TMCM watches Shinigami for a few moments with narrowed eyes, flicking his tail impatiently. As the Riolu comes to a sudden halt, he appears a lot more pepped, and with a noticeable spring in his step. He utters a sharp bark, and holds up his fists, facing down his angry looking foe with an air of determination.

TMCM looks unimpressed by Shinigami’s dancing about (though, to be fair, Mankeys rarely look pleased) and he continues staring him down with his intense gaze. Unbeknownst to the Riolu, TMCM makes a few subtle shifts in his posture, tensing himself in preparation for an attack.
Shinigami ignores his foe’s venomous expression, and slowly clasps his paws together, closing his eyes. TMCM flicks his ears quizzically, this isn’t quite what he was expecting, but he isn’t about to let his guard down.
A serene expression crosses Shinigami’s face as he focuses his fighting spirit and clears his mind of any troubling thoughts. His body glows with a light, purple aura as he taps into his psychic abilities. After a few seconds of silence, Shinigami abruptly barrels towards his foe headfirst, the psychic aura radiating around him.
TMCM hisses with pain as Shinigami connects, but he doesn’t lose his stance, and manages to react quickly. Shinigami’s peaceful expression is quickly replaced by a look of shock as TMCM roughly grabs a handful of his fur and uses the Riolu’s own momentum against him. He throws Shinigami backwards, sending him crashing forcefully into the base of the cliff, where he lands in a painful heap.
Shinigami groans, grabbing on to the nearby rocks for support as he slowly raises himself upright, gingerly checking the bruises forming on his body.

Although TMCM is left panting a bit and looking a little shaky, he’s pleased with himself for managing to one-up that overconfident Riolu. He jumps around and laughs fiendishly, hurling out some extremely nasty insults and ragging on about his opponent's terrible fighting style.
Shinigami scowls, and quickly slashes his paw upwards, causing the air to ripple and distort. A shimmering, translucent shield forms in front of him, blocking out the Mankey’s tirade of insults. Eventually, TMCM ends up running out of ammunition, and he glares over at his opponent expectantly. Shinigami gradually lets his shield drop; thankful that he was at least spared the barrage of insults TMCM was undoubtedly unleashing. He really would have preferred to have avoided that nasty counter though.

Alright MCM, time for a bit of pseudo-subtlety. Use Toxic until it hits them. If they use Zen Headbutt, Spite it on the following action. If there's something preventing you from doing either of those, or Shin's already poisoned, use Aerial Ace.

Wow. I have to admit, Walker, your making this match very hard for me.

Start with Agility. If Toxic hit, use Facade. if not, use Zen Headbutt. If you are Poisoned, end with Facade. If you are not, end with Protect.

Round two

TMCM makes a gurgling, hacking sound in the back of his throat, lashing his tail furiously. Shinigami shoots him a puzzled look, but just as he is about to move, TMCM abruptly spits out a stream of filthy, purple toxins at him with a raspy screech.
Shinigami cries out in surprise as the poison lands directly on his chest and immediately soaks into his fur with a nasty hissing sound. Shinigami frantically tries to wipe the mess away, but his efforts prove useless, and he has to take a moment to regain his composure as a feeling of nausea passes over him.
Shivering and grimacing, Shinigami gingerly moves forward, testing his bruised limbs. Eventually he manages to get started, and he takes off in a dash around the clearing. He gradually picks up speed as he moves, zigzagging around the glaring Mankey and skirting the edge of the pond. As he grinds to a halt, he appears more limber than before, managing to overcome his discomfort for the moment as he shifts around restlessly.

Just as TMCM is about to move, Shinigami takes advantage of his newfound mobility and darts forward, fists raised. TMCM is unpleasantly surprised as the Riolu begins to viciously pummel him with rapid kicks and punches as he vents his anger over his current discomfort.
TMCM staggers back with a muffled screech, trying to shield his face and keep his balance. Shinigami utters one final angry cry before he finally relents, backing away from his shocked foe. The Riolu is left panting heavily from unleashing such a frenzied attack, while TMCM is left looking quite battered, with his bristly fur even more messed up than usual. Gradually, TMCM manages to regain his composure, and he quickly lashes out at Shinigami again, delivering a lightning fast strike on his chest with his right paw. The attack catches the recovering Riolu unawares, and he gets the breath knocked out of him by the impact.

Shinigami is doubled over from the sudden attack, struggling to pull himself together. TMCM seizes the opportunity, and darts forward once again with another quick strike at his staggered opponent, managing to land another cutting slash to his arm.
Shinigami yelps, and immediately back-pedals, then furiously lunges forward, much to TMCM’s surprise.
Shinigami unleashes another torrent of frenzied kicks and punches at the bewildered Mankey, managing to knock him head over heels this time round. TMCM uprights himself, holding his head and looking disgruntled, his tail twitching in agitation. Shinigami backs away from his bristling foe, feeling a little better mentally after all that violent venting he did, though definitely not much better physically.

Alright, first things first, get away from Shin. I'm not sure whether you're still faster than him or not (with +2 speed under his belt I'd think not, but the way the last round was reffed you might be, I dunno) but go climb up one of the closer trees (very preferably one that could take a few hits if they try to knock it down), he's probably not going to hit you up there. Then just Spite away as he tries Zen Headbutt. If, for some reason, he isn't using Zen Headbutt, just chill up there.

Round three

Still breathing heavily, though a lot calmer now, Shinigami attempts to focus himself, while TMCM merely turns tail on his foe. Shinigami can't help looking up in surprise as TMCM lithely runs along on all fours without looking back, and makes a beeline for the nearby trees.
Shinigami shoots the Mankey an irritated look before he turns his attention back to what he was doing. He relaxes a bit as he manages to clear his mind, and a soft aura of psychic energy radiates from him again as he lowers his head and quickly charges towards the retreating TMCM.
TMCM’s ears prick up as he hears the Riolu thundering towards him, and in one swift movement, he leaps nimbly up the trunk of the sturdiest looking tree he can find. He scales the tree with swiftness and ease, and settles himself comfortably on a branch, leaning against the trunk. Wrapping his tail firmly around his perch, he looks down in amusement as the Riolu skids to a halt, dumbfounded by the Mankey’s dexterity.

Frowning, Shinigami looks up uncertainly at his tree bound opponent, who in turn simply looks at him smugly, daring him to make a move. Shinigami attempts to clear his head and ignore his infuriating foe, once again drawing on his reserves of psychic energy. The soft aura slowly radiates from around his body, as the Riolu lowers his head and rams into the tree. The impact causes Shinigami to cry out in pain and sends him falling backwards, but doesn’t seem to do much to dislodge the Mankey, who merely wobbles a little but remains clinging firmly to the branch.
Groaning, Shinigami raises himself upright, rubbing his head and trying not to aggravate the other bumps and bruises he sustained earlier. He slowly gets to his feet again, but suddenly shivers, as a horrible icy feeling travels up his spine. It’s soon followed by a strange feeling of dread, as his mind seems to cloud over, making it hard to concentrate. Grimacing, the Riolu clutches his head in his paws, feeling bewildered and freaked out. With quite a bit of effort, he raises his head to look up at TMCM, and finds the Mankey staring at him with a strange, blank look, his narrowed eyes looking much darker and strangely glassy. TMCM holds out a paw surrounded by blackened, ethereal strands of ghostly energy and swiftly brings it down in a cutting motion. Shinigami cringes from the threatening gesture, and is left with a strange, creeping sensation in the back of his mind

Shinigami vigorously shakes his head in an attempt to clear it, but the icy feeling of dread lingers stubbornly. He rubs his forehead, wondering what kind of bizarre hex that Mankey put on him, before he tries to focus his muddled thoughts.
Unfortunately for him, the process turns out a lot more difficult than before, and his mind remains cloudy and troubled. Starting to grow worried and desperate, Shinigami draws upon as much psychic energy as he can, trying to force the negative thoughts out of his head. Eventually, he manages to generate a softly glowing aura around him, but it’s noticeably feebler than before, and flickers uncertainly.
TMCM looks down at his troubled opponent, and watches him charge into the tree once again in another attempt to get at him. The headbutt produces much the same results as before; Shinigami is sent sprawling backwards, while TMCM manages to cling on with ease, even pausing to brush away a few dislodged leaves.
Groaning, Shinigami uprights himself again, feeling irritated and desperate at the lack of effect his attacks had. Even worse, he can feel that nasty creeping feeling again as TMCM works his ghostly charm on him. Shinigami can’t help but whimper and clutch his head, and when TMCM finally relents, he’s left feeling drained and gloomy.

- Both Pokémon are on even ground with speed right now, so who attacks first is basically randomized. TMCM has better odds due to him being in better shape though.
- I don't think it would be particularly easy to dislodge a Mankey from a tree, since it's perfectly at home there, plus Riolu doesn't really have much weight on its side. Shinigami also took a little bit of damage from the headbutting attempts.

Watching Shin pummel its face into the tree was amusing, was it not? I think it deserves an Encore, but only try it if you can go first. If you go second and they don't try to get into the tree with you, just chill. If they do try to get into the tree with you, Seismic Toss them back down.

Don't sweat it if they aren't encored on the second or third actions, because you should be able to get a Meditate in regardless. Still use Seismic Toss if they try to get into the tree with you again, and if at any point you think the tree is going to fall and/or burn down, jump to another one. Obviously do this if you are dislodged, too.

If you use Seismic Toss at any point, make sure you don't get out of the tree.

Sorry I didn't post in a while. I just have a question. Mankey's base speed is 70 and Riolu's being 60. I read on Serebii that having a +2 on Speed doubles the pokémon's speed, so shouldn't Riolu's base speed be 120?

Alright then. Start with a Protect to guard from Encore. Then use Hi Jump Kick to knock TMCM off. End off with a Forcepalm.

I usually add 5 points to the Pokémon's base speed stat for each boost. If you think that's too low, you could send Negrek a VM message about it. I don't mind editing anything.

Round four

Trying to recover his wounded pride, Shinigami hastily swipes his paw forward, causing the air to ripple and distort. Another shield of pure energy shimmers into existence, surrounding him in a translucent barrier. It noticeably seems to cost him more effort than before however, as the Riolu has a strained expression on his face, gritting his teeth as he focuses on keeping the shield going.
TMCM hops around enthusiastically on his branch, clapping his paws and congratulating Shinigami on his magnificent headbutting skills. It’s pretty difficult to think of convincing words of encouragement and praise after Shin’s migraine inducing showing last round, but the Mankey thinks he pulled off his acting quite well.
He looks over cheerfully at his opponent, but his expression quickly darkens as he realises the Riolu hiding behind that stupid protect shield again. Knowing his words are lost to the sound proof barrier, he quiets down, feeling quite annoyed that his spectacular acting went to waste. As Shinigami sees TMCM grow still again, he immediately lets the shield fade, uttering a sigh of relief. He takes a moment to get his breath back, before he straightens himself up again and resumes a fighting stance.

Shinigami crouches down, preparing himself for the huge jump he’s about to make. He keeps his gaze focused squarely on his target, who is currently taking the opportunity to settle down on his branch and relax against the trunk again. He closes his eyes as he lapses into deep concentration, trying to rid his mind of petty irritations and instead focus purely on the battle at hand.
When he opens his eyes again, he’s alarmed to see Shin abruptly spring high up into the air and go flying towards him with his foot outstretched. Before TMCM can react, Shinigami collides into him with a brutal kick, knocking the breath clean out of him. TMCM doesn't get the chance to regain his balance, and both Pokémon are sent tumbling down to the ground from the force. Shinigami tries to land smoothly from his momentum, but only half makes it, as he staggers over on the way down.

Dazed, TMCM scrambles back to his feet, struggling to regain his bearings. His left side is seriously smarting after that vicious kick, and he’s utterly seething about being so rudely dislodged from his branch.
Although Shinigami’s landing wasn’t too graceful either, he’s eager to capitalize on his newfound success, and forces himself to ignore his pain and seize his opportunity. He scrambles forward with his palm facing outwards, and slams the Mankey with an open-handed strike, applying as much pressure as he can. TMCM screeches with anger and pain, and is left reeling from the sudden blow, clutching frantically at the side of his head.
Shinigami allows himself a weak smile, but the round has left him feeling horribly drained, and the poison in his system is making him feel steadily more nauseous. Shivering a little, he raises his head to focus on his opponent again, and his eyes widen in surprise as he sees the Mankey already scampering up another tree. For a moment, TMCM’s progress looks quite shaky, an after-effect from the force palm, but he quickly recovers and makes it onto an overhanging branch. He settles himself down again, swishing his tail agitatedly and glaring down at his foe as he struggles not to show the pain he's feeling.

Drain punching for energy, eh? Good thing for us that, while Giga and Mega Drain can drain it, Drain Punch's description mentions nothing of the sort!

Attacks and Abilities Guide said:
Drain Punch - 60 Fighting 100%
Target: Single
Class: Contact/Healing (indirect)
Stat: Physical
Contest Type: Pure Points
Contest Score: +40

The user surrounds its fist in a swirling aura of fighting energy, then launches a quick punch. Although the foe is most damaged by the strike, the fighting aura also saps off some of their health, transferring it to the user such that they gain health equal to half the damage they managed to inflict.

I'll go ahead and issue these commands assuming nobody appeals to have that changed.

Let's start off with a Bulk Up to soften the blows on those Drain Punches. Next, if you've been knocked out of the tree, use double team for 3 clones, then follow up with an Aerial Ace. If by some miracle you've managed to stay in your tree on the second action, Encore the Drain Punch (waiting, of course, until they've actually used it) then Spite it.

Round five

Shinigami crouches down again, eyeing the Mankey carefully so as not to mistime his jump. Although slightly more optimistic after the last round, the Riolu definitely looks the worse for wear; his breathing is heavy and each movement seems to take a lot of effort.
His opponent seems to be a bit more active, though TMCM is still wincing after his unexpected dislodging from his perch. Determined to regain his earlier control of the match, TMCM starts flexing his muscles, channelling energy throughout his body and sending his metabolism into overdrive. TMCM utters a triumphant screech as his body grows larger and bulkier, adding a boost to his confidence as well as his muscle mass.
As he looks up from his posturing however, he’s unpleasantly surprised by the sight of Shin barrelling through the air and right towards him. Before he can react, the Riolu connects with another forceful kick to his midsection, knocking the wind clean out of him. TMCM utters a muffled cry of indignation as he is sent tumbling from his branch again and landing harshly on the ground. Shinigami follows his decent, managing to land on his feet, albeit with a lot of stumbling. The Riolu has to take another moment to catch his breath, before he raises his head again, struggling not to show his opponent how drained he is.

TMCM raises himself onto all fours, his narrowed eyes focused on his weary foe. His body is aching from the repeated kicks, despite his little bulking up session. He abruptly darts forward, arcing around the startled Riolu, and his form begins to become blurry and distorted. Illusionary copies form in his wake, perfectly mimicking their creator’s movements and expression. TMCM screeches to a halt, and the four Mankeys determinedly face their foe, who is looking decidedly perplexed.
Shinigami stares at each of the Mankeys in turn, struggling to find a flaw or any kind of subtle difference to tell them apart. He curses himself for not keeping proper track of the real one, but TMCM’s movements were frustratingly quick. Stretching out his weary limbs and making a fist, the Riolu decides to try his luck, and quickly launches himself towards a random target, hoping for the best. A glowing swirl of fighting energy surrounds his outstretched fist, before he delivers a punch towards the Mankey nearest to him. He is immediately disappointed however, as his fist passes clean through the fake, causing it to blur and abruptly disperse into nothing. Shin takes a deep breath, and turns to face the remaining Mankeys, silently fuming.

Shin’s growing weariness is not helping to improve his mood, and raising his fists seems to take a gargantuan amount of effort. Gritting his teeth, Shinigami takes another hopeful swing at his nearest target, his fist imbued with a swirling aura of energy. Unfortunately, his luck fails again, and another smirking copy is wiped out of existence.
Shinigami utters a weary cry of frustration, his fists falling limp at his side. TMCM wastes no time in launching himself forward, his single remaining copy following suit. Shinigami’s ears perk up in alarm as he sees the two bristling fighters lunging towards him, and he is knocked off his feet by a swift strike to his chest. The Riolu barely manages to stagger upright again, and is left swaying two and fro and he struggles to remain conscious.

- I really wanted to get this done at the same time as RTB and RG's match, but I ultimately didn't have as much free time as I thought I did. Sorry about that.
- Walker attacks first.

Spam Aerial Ace. Chill if they protect/detect/counter. Use Vacuum Wave if they come within KO range of it (if you can't be certain of this, use AA).
