The day is calm and clear as the two trainers arrive on the stadium for their battle. The stadium is a simple arena with no extra hazards around; perfect for a good fair fight. The smell of freshly mowed grass still lingers in the air, and the chalk lines on the field are neatly drawn.
The two trainers aren’t interested in how well-maintained the battlefield is however, they’re more interested in tearing it to shreds.
Shortly after RespectTheBlade and rock-ground take their places on each side of the stadium, the referee appears, walking leisurely across the neat grass. He is quick to inspect that the chalk lines haven't been scuffed, apparently under the rather naive impression that they're going to survive the following fight. After a few seconds, Byrus gives the thumbs up and the battle commences.

Blade begins by sending out his Pokémon: Drake the Dratini. The tiny dragon blinks his beady eyes, uttering his eerie cry. He then snakes forward, getting himself familiar with his surroundings.
Rock-ground responds with his Spirtomb; Darkness. The ghost Pokémon emerges from her Pokéball with a fiendish grin already on her face, the green lights on her gaseous body burning brightly.

Round one

Drake makes the first move, and slithers lithely towards his opponent, his body crackling with weak jolts of electricity. He stops short of Darkness’ grinning face, before unleashing the jolt towards her in a short arc of crackling sparks.
Darkness’ grin turns into an angry snarl as the current grips her ethereal body, causing her form to become fuzzy and blurred for a few moments. The Spirtomb manages to gain control of herself however, and her eyes begin to glow with sickly green light as she quickly attempts to put Drake under her spell. Darkness’ form begins to swirl in a dizzying array of lights as she works her magic, but to her frustration, she just can’t seem to make eye contact with the little dragon. After a few moments of trying to lure Drake into staring into her eyes, Darkness drops her current attempt, hoping to have better luck with her next try.

Unaware of his near miss, Drake amps himself up for a fiery attack. Taking a deep breath, he exhales a scorching column of flames at his ghostly foe. Darkness hisses in pain and surprise as she is struck by the intense flames, and her gaseous form is temporarily split in wispy pieces. The irritated Spirtomb quickly pulls herself back together as the fire burns out and determinedly faces her foe.
Her jagged mouth splits into a menacing grin and her green eyes narrow as she attempts another hypnosis, and this time she manages to capture Drake’s attention. The Dratini looks at her uncertainly, his eyes inexplicably drawn to the ghost’s creepy glowing eyes. There’s something strangely captivating about them, and soon enough he feels his adrenaline suddenly being replaced by a strange desire to sleep….
Darkness’ eyes glow brighter, her jagged grin grows wider, and the green orbs of light on her body wink in and out of existence. Drake sways on the spot, his eyelids growing heavier, unable to look away from the Spirtomb’s display, before he finally sinks down onto the ground in a deep slumber.

Grinning triumphantly, Darkness makes herself comfortable as she begins to focus her mind. Her form twists around slowly as she collects her thoughts, ignoring her foe for the moment as she reflects in quiet meditation. Her green eyes take on a dim glow, almost blinking out completely: a Spirtomb’s way of closing their eyes.
The Dratini in question is curled up comfortably, snoring gently. After a few moments of silence pass, Darkness’ eyes flash as she “opens” them again, turning on her keystone to face her opponent. She feels a lot more calm and focused now, apart from that irritating paralysis still dogging her.

Round two

Darkness frowns, looking on warily at her foe as he begins muttering and shifting restlessly. Abruptly, Drake raises himself upright, still fast asleep and swaying on the spot, frowning slightly, as though trying to remember something he forgot. His movements are jerky and uncoordinated, almost like a puppet on a string, as he relies on his subconscious mind to guide him. The Dratini opens his mouth, where a glowing sphere of blinding orange light begins to form. Sparks of energy crackle loudly as the orb gradually grows in size, its form flickering and distorting.
The unimpressed Spiritomb scowls at the outlandish display; the bright light it’s giving off is irritating to her. As the tiny dragon strains to build up such intense power, Darkness withdraws slightly into her keystone and begins nefariously plotting her next attack. She has some really nasty ideas too, if the widening grin on her face is any indication.
Finally, Drake manages to build the hyper beam up completely and can hold on to the volatile energy no longer. He blasts the beam straight at Darkness with a sleepy cry, wobbling about madly as he tries to regain his balance. The attack is surprisingly large coming from such a tiny creature, and it flies straight towards Darkness with a loud whoosh, sending small stones and clods of earth flying. However, the beam passes harmlessly through Darkness’ essence, crashing into the grass behind her and leaving a small crater in its wake. Its only effect on the ghost is causing her gaseous body to swirl around madly and distort her facial features. Darkness hisses angrily, the powerful attack may not have harmed her, but the bright light certainly isn’t welcome. She pulls a face at the sleeping dragon as she begins rearranging herself, willing her numb, ethereal flesh back to its proper position.

Drake slumps down in a tangled heap, a worried looking expression on his sleeping face. As Darkness looks on, he slowly rises up again, looking quite a bit shaky from unleashing such a powerful attack. He begins muttering to himself again, his face screwed up in concentration, and vicious sparks of electricity crackle around his serpentine body. Drake rears his head back as the sparks continue to build up, and then throws his head forward as he blasts the bolt right at Darkness.
The Spirtomb cringes as the thunderbolt strikes her, gripping her in a crackling array of sparks and splitting her body into jagged wisps.
As the electricity fizzles out with one last loud crackle, Darkness shakily struggles to get a hold of herself again. The electricity definitely doesn’t help her uncomfortable paralyzed form, and the Spirtomb is having much more trouble pulling herself together this time. She quickly gives up on it for the minute, then tries to focus her thoughts once again. Unfortunately, she isn’t having any better luck with concentrating in her current uncomfortable state. She tries her best, mulling over her dark thoughts as her ethereal body distorts wildly, but overall she isn’t left feeling as calm as before.

Meanwhile, Drake lurches forward jerkily, mumbling to himself as a flurry of unfocused thoughts and strategies run through his mind. He opens his mouth as if he is about to yawn, but a glowing blue orb forms instead, crackling and spitting with draconic energy. The orb swirls around like a miniature storm cloud, gradually building in size, before Drake spits the projectile at Darkness. The orb turns into a swirling column of draconic power, and strikes Darkness head on, drawing a startled screech from the ghost.
Darkness’ body slowly drifts back into place as she regains her composure and swivels on her keystone to get a better view. Her eyes glow brighter as she remembers her devious plans from before, and she begins gathering up an array of ghostly power. The air in front of her begins to distort and darken, forming itself into a blackened sphere of ethereal energy. Darkness cackles fiendishly, managing to overcome her earlier discomfort as she focuses on the nasty plans she has in store. All the while, the sphere grows in power and size. It hovers in the air for a moment, roiling restlessly, before Darkness sends it zigzagging towards the slumbering Dratini. The shadow ball strikes Drake’s midsection, knocking him back and drawing a muffled cry. The ghostly orb bursts into a spray of black and purple, leaving Drake’s skin blackened by the powered up attack.

Satisfied, Darkness leans back into her keystone a little, willing her paralyzed form not to go numb on her again. Despite the earlier hiccup, she does find herself feeling a little bit better.
As she looks on at her still snoozing opponent, she notices something funny. Drake’s skin seems to be rippling and distorting as the Dratini shuffles restlessly in his sleep. She watches curiously, then pulls a disgusted face as Drake’s skin wrinkles up and he wriggles out off it, blinking sleepily.
Drake shakes his head, still blinking rapidly, then gingerly investigates his shiny new skin, before flicking the old one away. He feels surprisingly sore and dizzy, and quickly tries to regain his bearings.
Darkness voices her disgust by sticking her bright green tongue out at Drake. The living could be so gross sometimes.

- Sleep talk generated hyper beam, thunderbolt and dragon pulse. Negrek's metronome generator seems quite generous for the most part.
- Shed skin kicked in at the end of the round, curing Drake of his sleep status. (Um, somehow...)
- Darkness was "fully paralyzed" on the second action. However, since calm mind doesn't require any movement, it simply made it harder for her to concentrate and she didn't receive the full effects from it.

Round three

Still a bit sleep-addled, Drake blinks rapidly as he absorbs his next commands. He isn't exactly thrilled at the prospect of trying to woo this nasty spook, but he gives it a fair shot anyway. He coughs to draw Darkness' attention, before launching into a mumbled speech about how they got off on the wrong foot so to speak... At first, Darkness is pretty scornful. She’s still plenty focused and feeling nasty, so Drake’s stammering compliments just look silly. Undeterred, Drake lays on the charm even thicker, thinking up best compliments he can muster, which isn’t very easy. Should he comment on the lovely purplish colour of her aura or something? He gives it a go, sliding towards her cautiously and holding out his tail in a friendly gesture. Darkness eyes him suspiciously, not sure what to make of his sudden change in demeanour. However, she finds herself being won over by his new, polite attitude. Darkness’ grin gradually becomes just a little less jagged, and a little less menacing. Although lingering doubts remain in her mind, she has to admit, the tiny dragon is being quite gentlemanly. His wide array of compliments are actually quite lovely. Maybe she was a bit hasty; it seemed that the living could be quite dashing sometimes…
Drake isn’t sure whether the Spirtomb’s enamoured smile is worse than her “I’m going to hurt you and enjoy every second of it” smile. However, it only takes about ten seconds of the ghost’s cooing and fawning to decide that yes, this was worse. Much worse. Not to mention ten times creepier.
Struggling to suppress a shudder, Drake forces himself to smile, affectionately patting Darkness on her keystone. Wait; is that really such a good idea? After all, it’s basically her prison. Can she even feel anything on it…?
Upon seeing his perplexed expression, Darkness confuses it with reluctance, and decides to take the plunge herself. She reaches out with her essence, forming crude, hand like shapes, and tries to embrace the little dragon. Drake is completely unable to suppress a shudder this time; the clawed, wispy hands wrapped around him feel horribly cold and suffocating. Darkness appears cheerfully oblivious to the Dratini’s horror, she instead continues to “hug” him, the green lights on her body swirling and glowing brightly.

Darkness probably isn’t going to be too thrilled with his next course of action, but that’s really too bad. He really isn't enjoying this display of affection, it feels likes he's being smothered by thick, cold fog. He begins to cough and hack, forming a vile array of toxins. Darkness looks at him in concern, guiltily remembering that dragons dislike cold, but remains reluctant to remove her touch. However, as Drake abruptly spits the fully formed glob of poisonous goo at her face, she immediately withdraws with a screech of surprise. Beeing at such close range, the unfortunate spook get a face full of the seething chemicals, and they waste no time in soaking into her ethereal skin.
Drake winces at the ghost’s wailing and grimly turns to face her, trying his best to look apologetic.
Darkness isn’t buying it unfortunately, and she curses herself for not trusting her instinct from before. Never trust the living! Hissing and spitting, her purplish form flares up, swirling rapidly like an angry storm cloud, and the lights on her body glow a dark and sickly green colour. She has more than enough nasty thoughts to fuel her attack now, and her earlier plotting comes into play as she unleashes her dark, roiling emotions as a physical force. A black wave of dark energy rushes from her keystone and washes over Drake, burning into his skin and filling his mind with Darkness’ vindictive thoughts.

Drake grimaces, his whole body shuddering as he struggles to push away the remaining darkened thoughts. That little romance definitely didn’t last long, and his next course of action is going to save anything.
Nevertheless, he grimly pushes on, trying to ignore the painful burning and tingling feeling from the dark pulse’s aftermath. Green, draconic flames flicker to life around his serpentine form, and gradually engulf him in a small inferno of fire. Bracing himself, Drake charges recklessly at Darkness and sends her form swirling in disarray again as he passes through her. The green flames lick greedily at Darkness’ keystone, drawing a pained cry from the angered ghost. She slowly falls into place again, as Drake recovers from his momentum, turning around to survey the results.
Darkness glares at him, her jagged mouth carved in an ugly frown. Her short lived feelings towards Drake have definitely passed, and her mind is once again devoid of nothing but dark, vindictive plots of pain and revenge. As her form begins to swirl angrily, she winces as the poison flowing through her wispy flesh reminds her of his troubling presence. Oh, that stupid little dragon is going to pay…
She unleashes another wave of vicious, spiteful thoughts in one darkened rush at Drake, who cries out as the horrible burning feeling washes over him again. As the last black wisps fade away, Drake is left looking shaken and scared, his body left peppered with blackened burn like marks.

Round four

Still shivering, Drake struggles to regain his courage after that horrible barrage of dark thoughts, and begins to edge towards his foe. The Spiritomb is definitely looking much meaner than usual, her face is contorted into a jagged snarl, and her gaseous body is swirling and roiling like a storm cloud. Swallowing nervously, Drake summons up a wall of green, draconic flames, which flare up around his serpentine form as he prepares to charge.
With a determined cry, Drake lunches forward, throwing his whole body at Darkness while enveloped in the roaring green fire. Unfortunately, he finds out too late that he mistimed the reckless charge, and he finds himself barrelling straight past the Spirtomb as she shoots him an evil smirk.
Drake struggles to change course, but is unable to control his momentum, and lands short of his target in a tangled mess. As the green fire around flickers and dies, the embarrassed Dratini quickly wriggles back up again, trying to regain his composure. Abruptly, Darkness roars with laughter, her purple aura flaring up and dancing about as she voices her glee. Drake freezes, looking down at the ground and fuming with embarrassment, but Darkness’ isn’t done with him just yet. A unearthly whistle escapes the Spiritomb’s ragged lips, causing Drake to begrudgingly look up at her. Is that seriously the best you can do? All those flashy lights that added up to nothing? Pathetic! I’ve seen Caterpie put on a better show than that! She bursts into another manical fit of giggles, as Drake is looking horribly crestfallen despite his efforts to ignore her. The Spirtomb is relentless in her jabs, not letting Drake get a chance to retaliate at all as she continues spitting venom. By the time she’s finished, her opponent is left looking like he wants to disappear forever.

Drake groans, hiding his face with tail. Was he really that bad? It was just one little mistake, he’s not the first Pokémon to miss with a move like that… Maybe if he was more careful this time… He edges forward uncertainly, but the grinning ghost’s relentless mocking is echoing around his mind, leaving him dazed and uncertain.
Darkness smirks at the crestfallen Dratini, feeling a lot better after giving him a piece of her mind. That’ll teach him! Cackling, she warps the air around into a shadowy mass of plasma, forming it into a sphere of ghostly shadows. As the ball reaches a suitable mass, she pushes it forward, sending it whooshing towards Drake in a spastic pattern. It collides with the distracted dragon and bursts against his skin in a shower of purple and black. Drake cries out in alarm, looking fearfully at the ugly looking burn left on his skin.

Grinning, Darkness triumphantly settles down in her keystone, her aura simmering down slightly as she relaxes. Her ethereal form is starting to feel a little less numb and more limber, and she swirls it about happily, sneering over at the sad looking Dratini. However, the grin on her face fades a little as the poison in her ghostly body reminds her of its presence. She affords herself a scowl before she settles down again, hissing a little from the nasty feeling.
Angry at himself for losing hope so easily, Drake reluctantly settles down for a break as well. He settles his body in a comfortable position so as not to aggravate the angry marks blackening his skin, curling himself up slowly and cautiously. He closes his eyes in an attempt to ignore Darkness’ nasty grin, but he is dismayed to find her words still preying on his mind.

Round five

Grimacing, Drake hurriedly summons a shield of pure energy, casting it around himself in a translucent barrier. He's already noticed the all too familiar signs that Darkness is preparing a dark pulse attack: thick black strands are drifting ominously from her keystone. With a hiss and snarl, Darkness sends the black wave of negative energy rushing from her keystone with an eerie whooshing sound.
Drake can’t help but cringe as he sees the horrible, inky blackness rushing towards him, but is visibly relieved when it abruptly dissipates upon meeting his shield. As the last wispy strands of thought fade away, Drake drops his shield with a sigh, and looks up to meet Darkness’ green eyed glare.

Doing his best to look more confident than he feels, Drake puffs himself up, and begins loudly boasting about how easily he shrugged off that last pathetic attack. However, he is dismayed to hear how shaky and small his voice sounds, and he has to quickly clear his throat before he tries again. He’s managed to pique Darkness’ curiosity at least, and as he launches into another boastful claim, he notices Darkness’ entire form quivering and swirling rapidly. Although he can feel himself getting very nervous, Drake decides to add his finishing touch. …And I managed to fool you pretty good earlier on, didn’t I? he says with a brave attempt at a smirk. He feels a little irritated at his lack of originality, but the spook did seem very sore about that, so…
Sure enough, the comment draws an unearthly howl of rage from Darkness, her past anger with the Dratini immediately bubbling back to the surface. After throwing a few choice obscenities at him, she summons up another barrage of dark thoughts, and inky strands of black begin to seep outwards from her keystone.
Drake can’t help but cringe as he sees Darkness’ aura churning wildly with her eyes burning like embers. The ghost looks horribly worked up by his little show, and she unleashes the dark wave of negative thoughts with a screech of gusto. Drake grimly braces himself against the horribly familiar wave of black, but still cries out in pain as it engulfs him and burns his already marred skin.

Groaning, Drake inches forward, raising his head with a lot of visible effort. Despite his pain and fear, the little dragon pushes on, and summons up another raging torrent of green fire around himself. He forces himself to move, and charges towards the ghost with a pained but determined cry. Darkness howls with pain and rage as Drake barrels into her, swathing her keystone in biting draconic fire.
When she pulls herself back together, her features are contorted with anger. Abandoning all reason, she lashes out viciously with wisps of her aura, determined to get at the loathsome dragon however she can. Although in a lot of pain, Drake manages to easily dodge the uncoordinated attack, surprised at the ghost’s attempt at a physical attack. As Darkness frantically tries to hit him, her clumsy movement ends up causing her topple over, landing sideways on her hated keystone. She utters a muffled screech, but appears more shocked than hurt.
Drake looks on with bated breath as Darkness quickly rights herself, but can’t help but feel disappointed that she looks just as angry as before. The Spiritomb’s eyes are smouldering horribly, and she’s so focused on her rage that she doesn’t even register the poison in her system steadily worsening.

Round six

Although Drake isn't the mood for dancing, he's willing to give anything a go at this point if it'll make him feel better. He slowly begins to move, trying not to irritate his wounds, and ignoring Darkness' death glare. His movements are slow and clumsy and first, but he eventually manages to get into the rhythm of the ancient dance. His serpentine form twists and swirls like a ribbon in the breeze, and the little dragon is heartened as he feels renewed power running through him. A flickering blue aura of draconic energy surrounds in body in a halo of light as he moves, highlighting the blackened marks marring his skin.
The fuming Spiritomb is completely unimpressed by his display however; her gaseous form is even more spiky and jagged than usual, and her furious gaze is concentrated on the Dratini. Her anger makes her hard for her to think straight, and she’s so focused on Drake’s remarks that she’s having trouble collecting her thoughts. The sight of the Dratini dancing and flaunting himself so brazenly is really rubbing her up the wrong way too, but she eventually manages to pull herself together and recall her commands.
Muttering obscenities, Darkness begins to mould a swirling projectile of shadows, causing the air around her to ripple and distort. The shadowy mass gradually builds in size and power, and Darkness’ aura flares up like a bonfire as she releases the shadow ball with an eerie screech. The ghostly orb zig zags its way towards Drake just as he completes his dance with a flourish, and catches the newly invigorated dragon completely by surprise.
Drake can only utter a muffled cry of pain as he is completely bowled over by the ghostly attack, and the mystical glow surrounding him abruptly flickers and dies.

Groaning and cringing, Drake slowly and shakily raises his head. The repeated attacks have left him feeling sore all over, and he looks just about as bad as he feels. A good rest definitely sounds inviting…
It takes him a while before he manages to settle into the healing trance however, as the Spook in front of him is still giving him the evil eye. His mind is slightly put at ease when he sees she isn’t making a move though, so he eventually settles down into a comfortable position to heal. A soft and radiant blue aura surrounds his body, and slowly washes over the nasty blackened areas on his skin, soothing and healing the injuries.
Darkness watches the process sulkily; she’s having trouble relaxing; everything that stupid dragon does is so infuriating to her at this point… or maybe not so much? She does feel like she’s managed to unleash the worst of her anger, and Drake’s remarks are looking very weak compared to what she’s dished out. Maybe she overreacted just a tad…
As she chills and muses, Drake’s serene expression suddenly changes. He rises up slowly and shakily, looking strained and almost like he’s ready to topple. The blue aura continues rejuvenating him and washing away the last of the ugly marks, but the dragon appears to be having other problems. As the last of the marks finally fade, the blue aura flickers uncertainly, and Drake grimaces, visibly sweating with the effort of performing the healing process. Finally, the blue aura fades completely, leaving a drained looking Dratini. Darkness’ sour looking expression turns to one of puzzlement as she sees Drake swaying two and fro and looking completely out of it. Abruptly, Drake topples over completely, face down in the earth.

Battle notes

- Due to her confusion, Darkness recovered slightly less energy than she would have normally. Her confusion status got considerably better since it was directly related to Drake, unlike something like confuse ray which would be related to pretty lights.
- Ironically, rest requires a lot of energy to use, especially when recovering large amounts of health. Drake recovered over 80% health with it, so he used up 40% energy.
- RespectTheBlade sends out.
- Rock-ground attacks.
- RespectTheBlade attacks.
