Arena: Lavaplume Flats

In one of the more tropicalish areas of Asber (very rare, those are), on a large, flat island that's shaped like a cloud shaped like a duck, there lies a humongous volcano omigosh really?

Buuuut that's not where this battle will happen. Due to mysterious tectonic activity and multiple handwaves, most of the island is covered in gray, pillowing stone. This stone is warm to the touch and almost pliable with enough effort. The stone sparkles in the intense sunlight like a vampire, and is about as lifeless and boring. It's what's underneath the rock that's importante, mi amigo; a vast pool of magma lies underneath the several feet of stone, bubbling and attempting to escape. How the lava flats have remained so pristine for this long is a mystery; the shell is completely unmarked despite this being, y'know, Pokémon, were we fight on the moon and stuff.

But I digress.

A simple Mega Punch or Rock Throw is good enough to smash a hole in the ground, revealing the bubbling lava underneath. Once every round after a hole has opened, a geyser of lava will boil upwards and splash the arena before receding. Fire type moves get STAB regardless of the user's typing. Heavy pokémon may break the rock simply by standing on it.

The sunlight was mercilessly battering upon tropical Asber that day. This could only add to the ridiculously high temperature in the Lavaplume Flats -- usually bolstered enough by the dormant boiler that anxiously awaited beneath the gray stone that composed most of the island's soil.

Mawile settled down on a rock, fatigued. Wiping sweat off the forehead, the trainer noticed something approach. It was Blastoise, hanging from one of his Murkrow's legs. He let go of the bird, dropping off nearby. Not long after, a dashing blur raked the skies, then made a sudden stop above the duo. Jumping off his Aerodactyl's back, Metallica Fanboy muttered something about going slower next time and recalled his winged mount.

With all three parties present, the referee reminded both battlers of the match's rules, and signaled for sendouts to begin. The first Pokémon to take to the battlefield was a blue, canine creature with a diminuitve, vaguely humanshaped figure. He was to face a quadrupedal, also canine foe, sporting reddish-orange coat with cream mane, belly and tail.

Commands were issued on both sides, and the duel began.

Pinwheel abruptly pounced toward his opponent, swinging his body mid-air in order to slash with both front paws. The initial attack hit square across the target's torso, and was followed up by another quick, two-pawed stroke. Link took a few seconds to recompose from the sudden blow, and then let out a high-pitched noise that dismantled the Growlithe's concentration.

That was the Riolu's chance. He delivered two swift, alternating hooks at the enemy's face, and used the second punch's momentum to finish the combo with a devasting, spinning uppercut. That last last move flung its victim upward, but he managed to land softly with a roll backwards, zooming away from the fighting with absurd, progressively rising speed.

Mawile's Pokémon quietly awaited for another chance to strike. When his foe sprinted nearby, he quickly launched him into the air again with a powerful jawbreaker. Before letting the Fire-type puppy land, the Fighting-type puppy jumped with a straight trajectory, twisting around to deliver two more twirling punches.

The end of the first round was called as soon as Pinwheel landed.

Additional notes:
- Up until Agility started being used, both Pokémon had the same Speed. random.org called for Pinwheel to move first on the first action, then for Link to move first on the second action.
- By the way, are the rocks that hide magma supposed to be realtively small but plentiful, or large enough for, say, a battle to occour upon?
- Mawile attacks first next round.

Mud Slap first, Brick Break next, and Brick Break last. If he tries to lower stats, use Protect. If he protects, use Bulk Up.

The rock is completely covering the magma, like a big dome. It's thin enough to break, though.

Start with Reflect (which Growlithe can learn in Gen. 2 according to Bulbapedia). If you can't use Reflect for some reason, use Heat Wave. Follow with Overheat followed by Fire Spin.

The signal to recommence battling was given. Pinwheel was clearly pleased by that.

However, contrary to what one might have expected, he did not make a violent lunge forward or something of the like. Rather, he hefted a paw, conjuring around himself a translucent, dome-shaped, golden barrier. His opponent seemed to be unconcerned about it, and focused on its own order, scooping up some dirt with the hands for a well-aimed throw that slid right through the Reflect to land on the eyes.

The Growlithe scratched his face, but it was useless: it would be more difficult and time-consuming than that to remove the debris from his eyes. He was forced to throw the next few attacks blindly. Clutching onto his Fire Stone, he prepared to launch one of said attacks, glowing red as his temperature rose at an incredible rate. Then, he pulled some air, and spat a massive tongue of flames. It successfully struck its target hard, but also struck other things (namely, a tree and some grass).

The scorched Riolu had a hard time shrugging that last attack off, but, he noticed that he was not the only one affected by it. His enemy was clearly wiped out as well, seeming tired and still bearing a faint red glow. It was a great opportunity. Mawile's Pokémon leapt upwards and came crashing down with a devastating punch that shattered right through the barrier, completely destroying it, while still hitting the intended target with considerable force. Two quick jabs followed up before it was time for the attacker to back off.

However, the canine had no intention of letting the hostile gain ground. He quickly breathed a string of flames that at one point formed a circle, the overall format resembling a lasso. This was not enough, though; the aim was way off, presumably because of the aimer's limited capacity to see.

That missed beat gave Link one more opportunity. Once more, he seized it effectively, with three more swift punches just before the referee called the end of round.

Looking at the heavily differentiated statuses of the battlers could give the beholder an idea of who had the upper hand. Nonetheless, both parties were going for the win without a care for what the odds might have been at that point. Except if you account for Blastoise's slight dismay at wasting an action earlier.

With their commands issued, the Pokémon got down to business once more.

Pinwheel dashed with amazing velocity, his opponent left to flinch wide-eyed whil waiting for the soon-to-come strike... That never came, because the attacker braked just short of the target and proceeded to hastily sniff him. With a sigh, the impassive Riolu gathered energy on his fist, then glanced at his unsuspecting foe and lashed out with a vicious uppercut. Just when the punch landed, a massive energy reaction occoured, pulling any life force lost during the attack into the attacker's paw.

The Growlithe had to twist in the air in order to land properly. When he did, he was eager to deal out the payback. He lowered his head, taking up a defensive stance and concealing weak points. Link carried on with his commands without placing any concern on the enemy's actions, throwing one more Drain Punch. He may have gotten no real reaction from his target, but he could tell that he did do some damage by the amount of health he managed to restore. Just then, the puppy dog Pokémon lashed out violently, hammering his opponent on the chest with an audible impact. He also took a chance to recompose his defensive stance while his foe staggered.

That last attack proved slightly frustrating for the jackal Pokémon, as it had been strong enough to cut off all the vitality he had regained up until that point. He did not worry much, though, simply stealing some more with yet another Drain Punch in. That was for naught, though, as Blastoise's Pokémon hammered him once more, just before the end of round.

Brick Break first, followed by two Drain Punches. If he Protects or you somehow can't attack him, use Bulk Up.

Brick Break/Bulk Up ~ Drain Punch/Bulk Up ~ Drain Punch/Bulk Up

Two-turn moves like Solar Beam only take one action in ASB.
I was under the impression that they would only take one action if ordered to, but, a check I just made proves otherwise.

So, I'll fix up the end of round stats, and the reffing itself later.

EDIT: All done.

Rock Smash a hole between yourself and the evil Riolu of doom. Put as much power into it as you need to to make a big hole. Then spam Dragon Rage. If he gets over the hole somehow, instead attack with Aerial Ace.

Ending this in a draw as per request.
Both trainers had 1 pokemon used against them, so $4 goes to each person. Pinwheel and Link each get 1 exp.
