Walker attacks.

Hit it, guys.

Niska for me then.

You're fastest and neither of your opponents get snatch so start with a 10% substitute or, alternatively, snatch a substitute from one of your opponents - safeguard will do too. Then hypnosis Ruin or Nenya, whoever doesn't have a safeguard/sub protecting them; if they both have some sort of defense (sub/safeguard/double team/etc.), use haze. Then go invisible and energy ball Ruin. If Ruin protects or detects, Sludge Bomb Nenya; if Nenya protects/detects, chill. Wait until everyone has attacked before attacking on the third action.

Substitute 10% / Snatch ~ Hypnosis @ Ruin / Nenya / Haze ~ Energy Ball @ Ruin / Sludge Bomb @ Nenya / Chill

start off with a draco meteor at niska to break that sub, because letting it stay up would be disastrous, then protect to get that haze, iff Ruin also protects -- otherwise sleep talk or mimic as fit. third turn zap cannon if gravity is up, else thunder wave, or mimic earthquake.

draco meteor @ niska ~ protect / sleep talk / mimic @ niska ~ zap cannon / thunder wave @ niska / mimic @ ruin

The once glorious Fleet Town is but a shadow of it’s former self. Not a single structure remains in tact; the once proud buildings now lie in crumbled piles of stone, wood, and other rubble. Even the streets themselves are beginning to crack and decay. This long-since-abandoned city is today about to experience its first piece of action since its destruction, as three Pokémon trainers gather here for a free-for-all battle.

Round 1

Niska makes the first move, being the fastest of the three Pokémon. He selects a large boulder nearby and using his ghostly powers, carves up the boulder into a rough ball form. He then licks the boulder, which springs to life, eyes and all, and begins to hover next to its master.

Ruin, meanwhile, begins its own strategy. The Baltoy’s “eyes” begin to glow a light pink and a faint dome of the same color appears around the city. Everyone inside, Baltoy included, begins to feel weighted down by the intensified pull of gravity beneath them. The pull is so strong that both Niska and his rocky protector, as well as Ruin itself, are pulled back to the surface of the earth.

The change in gravity is little problem for Nenya, who doesn’t appear to want to move anyway. Rather, she hopes the force will help her offensive, as she looks towards the sky and lets out a very un-Dratini-like roar. Both Niska and Ruin glance at their draconic enemy as the earth begins to tremble. From the sky rains colossal meteors, each coated in green draconic fire. The meteors explode into the ruins, with several destroying several piles of rubbish, though most of them focus on Niska. His rocky Substitute breaks apart and surrounds him like a piece of full-body armor as meteor after meteor shatters against it, until finally the barrage comes to an end, and Niska’s Substitute shatters.

Ruin acts next, this time forming a green dome around itself in anticipation of an attack. Nenya sees this and does likewise, her own green bubble just as strong. Niska, however, expected this. Instead of flat out attacking, he instead opens his mouth and spews a thick haze. The cloud floats lazily throughout he general area, making it difficult for everyone around to see clearly as well as further adding to the general creepiness of the ruined city. Ruin lets his protective shield drop, realizing that it can’t maintain it for too long. Nenya, though less keen on the idea, does so as well, and immediately begins to get chills and the haze fills in the air around her. She looks at herself questioningly, as she feels the weariness from her first attack fade.

Niska waits in the fog as ordered, listening for her opponents. Somewhere to his left, Ruin is moving. With some aid from psychic powers, it leaps up and crashes back to earth, sending shockwaves rippling through the surface. More heaps of old buildings can be heard crashing down in the distance. Nearby, both Niska and Nenya’s wails of agony can be heard through the chilling haze, until finally the ground stops cracking and shaking.

Nenya regains her composure a bit more easily than Niska, due to the ghost’s weakness and unfamiliarity with shaking pavement. She attempts to turn this into an advantage by charging up electricity in her body and gathering it into a collected ball in her mouth. She aims as best she can through the thick haze in the direction she believes Niska’s screams were coming from, and forcefully spits the pulsing electrical ball. An explosion and some more crumbling is heard in the distance, but the Gastly does not let out any cry of pain this time, leaving Nenya to hang her head and sigh.

Assuming both attacks from her opponents have been launched, Niska fades away, invisible, though one might say it was unnecessary in this fog. Regardless, the ghost turns toward what he hopes is Ruin, and fires a green energy ball towards it. The figure lets out an eerie mental cry of pain, audible to everyone nearby, and vanishes as the Gastly’s attack throws it deeper into the fog.

Arena Notes
-Further ruined, if anything. Niska’s Haze is covering the entire area. Ruin’s Gravity is in effect for another three actions, leaving both Niska and Ruin rooted to the ground.

Round 1 Notes
-Just a reference for the Pokémon’s base speeds, starting with the fastest: Niska, Ruin, Nenya.
-@sreservoir: I apologize for not getting this up sooner, I don’t normally check the battles until everyone’s posted so that I can go right ahead and ref them. Anyways, Nenya’s starting type is Steel.
-According to the A&A, Haze lasts a while and lowers visibility, so I treat that as fog (within reason). Therefore, the Special Attack drop from Nenya's Draco Meteor was recovered when the Haze reached her. Also, Earthquake wasn’t affected by the Haze.
-Zap Cannon was, however, since Nenya needed to see. With Gravity in effect, they almost cancel each other out, but it missed anyway.
-Next round’s attacks: Walker, Pentimento, sreservoir.

spam earthquake. protect if niska tries to use hypnosis on you, but revert to earthquake if they do it twice in a row. chill if both opponents are protecting at the same time.

Earthquake / Protect / Chill *3

Just being nitpicky here, it's not important enough to edit, but I did mean for Niska to go invisible immediately upon the third action, since that is not necessarily an attack. Anyhow.

Niska, phase into Ruin, then spam shadow balls.

Phase @ Ruin ~ Shadow Ball @ Ruin x2

reflect; then, if possible, mimic earthquake, then spam it. otherwise, thunder wave niska if possible - light screen otherwise - and then start yourself some rain.

reflect ~ mimic @ ruin / thunder wave @ niska / light scren ~ earthquake / rain dance

Round 2

Niska immediately begins scanning the cloud in the direction he just shot at Ruin in. He quickly finds the Baltoy regaining its composure, and hurries through the haze, still invisible, towards his target. Before Ruin even senses the Gastly, he has already slipped inside the Baltoy and spread his ghostly form out.

Only after Niska is invading Ruin does it notice the odd presence. The Baltoy worries about the invader, but is unsure how to deal with him. Unable to see either opponent, Ruin decides that another widespread assault is the best option. With a little difficulty under the intensified gravity, Ruin leaps up and crashes down hard, sending another flurry of shock waves through the ground, further cracking the pavement. Somewhere in the distance, Nenya’s cries of discomfort can be heard. Much to Ruin’s disappointment, however, his ghostly opponent seems unaffected.

Across the courtyard, Nenya struggles to shake off the residual vibrations of the earthquake. Deciding it might help to set up some form of defense, she casts a faint blue shimmering dome of energy around herself. The dome doesn’t stop the haze from slithering through the air, though the Dratini can feel the energy strengthening her defenses.

Now that he’s comfortable inside Ruin, Niska begins charging up ghostly energy. Ruin cries out in shock as the powerful energy tears at it from inside it’s own body. Unable to really form the energy into the proper shape, Niska simply continues gathering eerie energy and allowing it to spread with his body throughout Ruin.

Meanwhile, Ruin starts to panic. Unsure of what just happened, the Baltoy leaps up for another earthquake attack. Again, the shock waves pass under the think haze and ripple through Nenya, almost as powerfully as before despite the protection she put in place against it. Still, she manages to shake off the leftover shock a bit easier than the previous, confirming to herself that the dome is at least partially working.

Putting that aside, Nenya takes a moment to think through her own orders. Unable to see where those shock waves came from, she rules out mimicking them as an option quickly. Seeing as how Niska is inside Ruin, she wonders how she would possibly damage him, and strikes that option out as well. She casts another dome around her, this one a light pink, to support the already in-tact bluish one, together creating an unusual purplish hue.

Niska is content to remain inside Ruin for just a little while longer. He again begins to charge up ghostly energies and allows them to spread through out his, and Ruin’s, bodies. Ruin psychically wails in pain as the attack sears its insides a second time.

True to its orders, though doubting very much at this point that it will help with the ghost problem, Ruin leaps up for yet another earthquake. As with the previous, the shock waves ripple through the ground. Nenya’s shrieks cry out from somewhere in the haze, but this time they don’t last very long.

Thanks to her barrier, Nenya has a much easier time regrouping after this most recent assault. Hoping to be rid of this horrid fog, she looks up to the sky and lets out an earsplitting dragon’s roar that one probably wouldn’t expect from such a tiny, cute little thing. Within seconds, dark storm clouds take shape above Fleet Town, and a downpour begins. The haze, dissipating slowly, is helped along by the constant flow of rain. As the round draws to a close, Niska emerges from his host and reforms his body in order to hear his next commands, noticing both the discomfort of the rain as well as the reduction of gravity beneath him as he does so.

Arena Notes
-Further ruined, if anything. Ruin’s Gravity faded at the end of the third action. Nenja’s Rain Dance is in effect (5 more actions). Niska’s Haze is still covering the entire area but starting to fade, assisted by the rain.

Round 2 Notes
-Just a reference for the Pokémon’s base speeds, starting with the fastest: Niska, Ruin, Nenya.
-According to the rules thread, a ghost will rematerialize automatically after it does its job (or, in this case, the end of the round). Forgive me if I screw something up with this, as I’ve never dealt with phasing before. Just let me know and I’ll correct it.
-Ruin’s second Earthquake was a critical hit on Nenya (the third was also one point away from a crit). Being inside Ruin, Niska wasn’t damaged by any of them (according to the rules on phasing).
-Next round’s attacks: sreservoir, Walker, Pentimento.

Yes. Ghosts retain their typing, so they aren't immune to anything that their hosts may be. However, if it's the case that an attack can't reach the ghost inside its host (for example, a sludge bomb would pretty much roll right off a steelix) as a result of the host's typing, then it will be affected.

Again no, especially because these abilities don't actually prevent the appropriate energy type from hitting the pokémon in question, but only allow them to convert the energy into something useful instead of damaging. The ghost doesn't have their ability and so would be damaged.

if Nenya was able to realize that Niska was in Ruin, I'd think she'd be able to at least attempt to aim a thunder wave at him. gastly is actually significantly larger than baltoy.

Niska was invisible when he phased into Ruin, plus haze, so there is no reason for Nenya to have realized it.

then there is also no reason for her to have realized that niska was inside ruin anyway.

I'd complain less if it weren't that implication.

Hm... Taken from the ASB Rules thread on Ghosts and Phasing:

Phsyical damage to the pokémon or object being possessed has no effect, as the ghost's "cells" are gaseous and merely slide through whatever medium is undergoing stress without sustaining damage. For example, if a ghost is inside a rock affected by an earthquake attack, it will not take damage. However, if an energy-based attack is able to penetrate the object being possessed deeply enough, then the ghost may take damage.

I based the ruling on that, mostly the last sentence. I can't imagine a Thunder Wave penetrating a ground-type enough to harm a ghost inside. Still, you're right that Nenya shouldn't have even known that Niska left the field, both because of the lingering haze and the fact that Niska was invisible anyway. I'll go on and change that (even though it seems more of a drawback for you, but...)

gastly are bigger than baltoy, actually, but!

Protect against any status moves, or Agility the first time you're not targetted by any; Safeguard instead if you've already used Agility. Dismiss Reflect unless Ruin uses Gravity again. On the last action, if you haven't raised used Agility yet, do that; if you have, then chill. if anyone uses a ghost-type move on the third action, mimic that.

Protect / Agility ~ (dismiss Reflect) Protect / Agility / Safeguard ~ Agility / Chill / Mimic @ whoever

Quick question, how much of a boost do you give when at +1 and +2 speed?

Quick question, how much of a boost do you give when at +1 and +2 speed?

Typically, I just add 10 or 20 to the base power for every speed boost gained, depending on the pokemon and the situation.

Also, I'm so sorry for vanishing... there's been some rather serious "real life" crap that's sort of hit me hard. I'm a bit better, though, so I'll get back into this with new life.

I'm assuming SS means base speed, ie gastly's base 80+10. You guys sure know how to stall a battle over unnecessary semantics.
