Round eleven
Firestrike is left feeling even more concerned when Rift abruptly begins coughing and hacking, as if her throat is filled with phlegm or something. Wait, can that even happen to ghosts…? As Firestrike is left wondering, Rift takes the opportunity to spit a nasty glob of purple venom all over his chest. Firestrike nearly jumps a mile, paralysis or no, and struggles wildly to get the corrosive liquid off him.
Rift’s sympathy begins to set in again as she sees the poison burning into his adorable little feathers, sizzling nastily as it makes its way into his bloodstream. Eventually, the panicking Firestrike is forced to give up his pointless attempts to shake off the toxins, and he settles down for a break. He tries his best to make himself comfortable and ignore the horrible feeling of the poison in his body, though he also finds himself fretting over Rift’s feelings towards him. Does she not like his style anymore? She basically vomited all over his adorably fluffy coat. She’s obviously implying something here.
As Firestrike is left lost in his thoughts, Rift looms over him once again, trying not to think of how she ruined his coat. Although her painful burn stops her from being too sympathetic. She glowers at the unsuspecting Torchic, trying to look as creepy as possible, and her wide eyes glow an eerie red again.
Firestrike looks up in time to see the Haunter send another beam of cloudy ghost energy streaming towards him. He winces as the unpleasant chill ruffles his feathers and forces him backwards, leaving him feeling quite shivery and slightly spooked. This really isn’t endearing.
By this point, Rift can’t help feeling surprised at Firestrike’s continued lack of retaliation. In fact, she’s starting to wonder if she was maybe a little too harsh there… Firestrike is just sitting there all peacefully, with the occasional hurt looking glance in her direction. The glance is enough to stop the ghost’s glowering, and when she approaches him again, she’s noticeably lost a lot of her former bravado.
Nevertheless, she sends another ghostly beam of energy streaming towards him, and Firestrike gives a panicked chirp as the coldness washes over him again.
Shivering, Firestrike turns away from Rift with a hurt and annoyed look. Taking a rest sounds like a good idea at this point...
However, before he can make a move, the watchful referee begins yelling something about illegal moves and other gibberish that Firestrike could care less about. He's tempted to defy the ref anyway, but a whack on the head with a rolled up newspaper deters him. He scowls over at the referee, resisting the urge to set him on fire.
Rift surveys their antics with some amusement, and gives a small chuckle despite her own discomfort.

Arena notes
The ground is severely cracked all around, and there are two large craters near where Rage was floating. The ground inside the arena is littered with fragments of glass and a few large pieces of metal, along with the remains of some rare artifacts. A shelf has fallen over alongside battling area, and all of the artifacts on it are lying on the ground, some of them intact and some of them completely destroyed. There is some blackened concrete and artifacts in a five-foot blast radius from where the bottle shattered against Rage.
Battle notes
- Direct recovery moves are banned.
- Sorry, I meant to say I didn't know how many exp points Rift had at the start of the fight. Any exp she gained after this battle started wouldn't count. Anyway, I asked Negrek about it and neg said to go with 50 base power. The last round was edited accordingly.
- Superbird attacks first.
