Arena: Model Railroad

The Pokémon have been miraculously shrunken to fit on a model railroad table, with a working train and everything. To the trainers, the table is only a meter on either side. There's a large lake (relatively speaking) in one corner, and a smattering of trees which condense into a forest at the other corner. By default, the track runs right in between the lake and the forest, though it can be shifted as the trainers wish.

A map of the default layout can be found here.

Railroad tracks can be added or taken away, as can railroad cars. Cars will only be able to move to adjacent spaces which also have tracks on them, and move at a rate of one space (direct or diagonal) per action. They can be controlled (stopped, started, and directed) by the trainers. Each trainer gets one train command per action, and order is determined by the Pokémon's speed. Order can be specific (go northwest) or general (keep going forward). Orders will be ignored when impossible (no track exists or another car is in the way) or if there is a fork and no direction is indicated.

In addition to tracks and cars, trees and mountains can be added or removed. Mountains are impassible barriers except by flying Pokémon, though tracks can be built through mountains to allow passage. Trees can be used for hiding or whatever other clever purpose you come up with. Mountains are noted by "*". Each Pokémon fits approximately in one square, and their positions are noted by "@"

Each trainer can indicate one map change (adding or removing a piece) when they call their attacks in addition to the train directions - indicate the piece (track, car, tree, mountain) and the position (row-column). Trees cannot be layered with anything and cars can only be placed where there are tracks. Mountains can be layered on tracks and vice versa, and though cars can go through mountains if tracks exist they cannot be placed in or taken away from a mountain space.

So, to conclude: In addition to attacks, you need to indicate up to 3 train controls and up to 1 map change.

Go Fenris!

OK let's get things started. If at any time they use Taunt you use Protect. Otherwise on your first action use Nasty Plot to plan your next move. Then use Low Sweep, followed by Force Palm. If they protect at any time use Nasty Plot.

So I get to move the tracks right... hmmm.... I will do nothing for now.

Okay, Niobium! Start out with Yawn to put him to sleep, then follow it up with Shadow Claw. Assuming he's asleep by then, use Dream Eater. If for some reason he isn't then another Shadow Claw is in order.

Also, I'd like to add a mountain at space A12. No train controls for now.

Pre-round Notes
So in a bizarre set of circumstances, these three trainers have happened upon a model train set. They wanted to send out their Pokémon to play with it, but when they sent them out they were tiny! And also on the table. Well, no sense in wasting it; the trainers are going to have a battle in miniature! The Riolu and Purrloin take their places upon the table, and the referee indicates for the round to begin.

Round 1 Begin!

Oddly enough, the Purrloin begins the battle by yawning. She yawns very widely and deliberately, mking sure that her opponent can see her doing so. At the same time, she broadcasts a mental signal, just to make sure he gets the message. It works, too; Fenris catches the yawn and yawns himself, suddenly feeling drowsy. He forces the thought out of his mind, though, and begins thinking of nefarious schemes, ways to make the Purrloin suffer. He grins, feeling considerably the better for it.

Suddenly Niobium leaps into a run, hurtling towards Fenris over what, proportionally, must be a considerable distance. As she runs, she cloaks her claws in a dark energy, and she slashes at Fenris, her claw carving deep gashes into his side. He growls, and then sweeps his leg out at those of Niobium. She trips over, and smashes her chin into the ground; worse than that, though, her legs now ache. Suddenly, though, the yawn Fenris had been putting out of his mind returns, even stronger; his eyes close and he topples over forwards, snoring gently.

Niobium grins; her opponent is out of action for at least a few actions. She walks up to him and begins licking his head, extending her mind into his; she giggles at what she sees there, then pulls it out, pulling a portion of his energy to herself.

With her legs injured, Niobium is unable to move fast enough to stop her opponent from rushing away, and so she can only follow as he runs into the thick mass of trees. Because it's a train set, the trees don't really provide full cover, and so Fenris is still just about visible; as she runs, Niobium begins drawing toxins from within her body, concentrating them in her mouth to form a foul-tasting purple goop. She spits it at him the very second she gets an opening, and it hits its mark, soaking through his skin. He suddenly retches violently, feeling horrible sick.

He wheels round: that kitty-cat is not going to get away with this. He leaps at her, and slams his palm into her head with significant force; it smashes her down and she hits her chin on the ground, and Fenris leaps away. Niobium staggers to her feet, sore on her head and her chin; she charges up a ball of shadows, and launches it at him, just catching him as he tries to jump out of the way.

Fenris growls. He darts round behins her then leaps out of the trees, smashing his hand into her side and throwing her over. He leaps back into the trees and hides, leaving Niobium to charge up another ball of shadows. She scans the trees warily, looking for her opportunity - there! She launches it, and it hits, exploding in a burst of shadows. All that Niobium is left with as the round ends is the fading sound of Fenris' growling.

Round 4 Begin!

Safely hidden within the trees, Fenris can act with much less fear of retribution. He begins jumping around, leaping from tree to tree faster and faster, and then all of a sudden he is tailed by four identical duplicates. He grins: he's much safer now. Suddenly, out of the woods behind him, another ball of shadows tears through the air, smashing straight through one of the four duplicates. It flickers and vanishes, and Fenris grins again.

Fenris lands on a branch, and then turns to where the last Shadow Ball came from. He puts his hands together, palms facing where he hopes Niobium is; a tiny spark of red energy suddenly appears, growing in seconds to a basketball-sized translucent orb. He launches it through the trees, and is rewarded by a Purrloin-esque scream. In retaliation, Niobium launches another Shadow Ball back at Fenris; it destroys a clone, the actual Riolu having vacated the space moments before.

Leaping from branch to branch, Fenris approaches the spot where he believes Niobium to be. Landing on a branch behind her, he cloaks his paw in a shadowy energy; he grins, then leaps down from his branch, letting out an intimidating roar as he hurtles at his opponent. She turns, just in time to recieve a horrible slash to the face; she hisses and spits, a gash across one eye half-blinding her. She turns to face the Riolu with her good eye, and fires another Shadow Ball - but the Riolu flickers and vanishes, Fenris actually being behind her.

Round 5 Begin!

Fenris is not liking his first command. He has to compliment... that? His opponent? Well, presumably his trainer knows best... he begins halfheartedly shouting compliments through the trees, not sure whether to hope that he is or isn't successful. As it turns out, though, the trees block sound enough that while Niobium can hear him shouting, she has no idea what he's saying and the attack is ineffective. What it did do, though, is give Niobium something to aim for, and she leaps through the trees towards him: when she reaches him she spits a foul purple glob at him, and as it happens, it hits home. The second Riolu flickers and vanishes while the original looks disgustedly at himself, covered in purple goo.

In the interests of preventing something of the sort from happening again, Fenris closes his eyes and concentrates hard, and a shield suddenly materializes in mid-air around him. Niobium's not interested, though, instead apparently chasing her tail; she speeds up and suddenly five identical Purrloin materialize in the air behind her. She screeches to a halt, her clones mimicking her, as Fenris looks on disappointedly. He lets his shield drop.

Then, suddenly, he throws his palms up in front of him, charging up a sphere of fighting-type energy just like before. He launches it at one of the Purrloin, which it passes straight through; the clone flickers away, the sphere explodes on the ground. The five Purrloin, who all this time have been charging up a ball of shadows, suddenly release it; it smashes into Fenris, knocking him off his branch and onto the ground with a thump.
