Terrain: Castelia City Square

Castelia City is the gateway to Unova, its port welcoming trainers from around the world. Today those trainers include a fair number from Asber, turned out to compete or spectate on the first round of the League Championship. The city square at the center of Castelia has been reserved for the first round of battle, its broad cobbled expanse providing plenty of room to fight and the central fountain offering a refuge for pokémon that would rather swim than stand. Skyscrapers rise on all sides, framing the scene with the imposing prosperity of Castelia City.

More than just Asber's own trainers have turned out for the battles, though; plenty of curious Castelia residents and tourists mill about the rim of the arena, hoping to catch a few exciting battles. To ensure that they don't go unsatisfied, the regional authorities have generously--and forcefully--provided some of Unova's most powerful pokémon for the trainers to test-drive and show off for the crowd. Unfortunately, with the number of battles that need to be run through before the TCoD League's lease on the square expires, some of the fights might have to be truncated a bit.

For this battle, you will be using a pokémon on loan from the Unova League. Your choices are below. The first player will get first pick of pokémon, and the second will make their pick and then attack as usual. This match will be capped at five rounds. If both pokémon are still standing at the end of round five, the pokémon's health and energy will be added together and the one with the most will be declared the winner.

The pokémon:

Galvantula (M) <Unnerve>
Jellicent (F) <Cursed Body>
Mienshao (M) <Regenerator>
Escavalier (F) <Shell Armor>

And I shall choose the Mienshao.

Alright. First, use Fake Out to ensure no damage on the first action. Then, use Rock Slide, hoping for another flinch. Finally, use Rock Tomb to reduce their Speed since they're a bit faster than us. If at any time they Protect/Detect, then use Swords Dance. Let's hope this doesn't go too badly.

Fake Out/Swords Dance ~ Rock Slide/Swords Dance ~ Rock Tomb/Swords Dance

Okay. Take the first action, won't do that much. Thunder Wave on the second, Paralysis helps and he can't shake it. Finish up by Disabling Rock Slide. If by some insane luck he can't move due to paralysis on the second action, use Thunderbolt in lieu of Disable.

Don't worry, my newly-loaned friend, we'll turn the tide next round. Electric spiders FTW.

Take hit~Thunder Wave~Disable/Thunderbolt

EDIT- My Galvantula's nickname is Edison. I shall be reffering to him as that for the remainder of the battle.

Castelia City. The sprawling metropolis was surely a sight to behold, and now that the inhabitants of Asber had taken the city by storm, it was time for the city to add one more bullet to its list of battles held. Today two trainers vowed for a spot in the second round, and they were going to use any means necessary. Though Edison had the advantage in speed, the giant arachnid had been ordered to simply lay back on the first action, so Mienshao raced forward to deliver his hit. The nimble fighting-type seemed unfazed as he approached this hulking monster of a Pokemon, and with all of the limberness of a Persian he sprung forward and feinted a mighty attack. Though the Galvantula had been expecting something along those lines he still jumped back in fright, letting the Mienshao sneak up behind him. He swung around and was faced with his opponent again, and expecting the worse, Edison squeezed his eyes shut, but he was met with a very weak struck. Sure, he felt the pain, but it felt like almost nothing, just as his new trainer had anticipated.

As Mienshao began to gracefully step back into his area across the cobblestone Edison decided it was finally time for him to attack. Using the powers of his impressive speed the fiery little tarantula began to generate an electric current that materialized before him. The electricity appeared as a small, swirling, blue ball. Using his two front legs the Galavntula started to manipulate this electrical manifestation, spinning it round and round on the outside, fuelling it with power on the inside. With a small screech that suited the bug immensely, Edison fired off his little electric current in the direction of Mienshao. Mineshao seemed to react with a simple flick of his moustache as the attack struck him, not yet feeling any reason to be worried at all. However, he soon realized that his crafty opponent had decided that pain was not the best course in this situation, and he had simply decided to inflict him with a status effect. Mienshao’s heartbeat quickened slightly as he realized that one of his most important assets had effectively been neutralized.

Mienshao was now starting to feel just a bit panic-stricken. Not only had he barely managed to damage his opponent on the last action, but now his opponent had decided to hinder him quite effectively. Not to panic, not to panic, he could still hope to come back full-force. He tested his muscles a bit. They seemed to be working OK at the moment, though he would sincerely prefer to be his nimble self once again. He was just a about to start banging his foot against the ground to summon up some rocks when he felt his muscles clamp up in that oh-so sickening way. He was frozen in the most awkward position imaginable, one foot raised as if he was attempting to accomplish a quite unorthodox dance move. All that was left of his limber ability was his eyes, which quickly darted around the area, observing his opponent, hating him. As was now customary in the battle, Edison returned this gaze with a look of innocence, which wasn’t easy when you look like a giant murder beast just waiting to strike.

Now Edison felt that this battle was going on the up-and-up in his perspective. His opponent who seemed so in control of his power had now officially been quite hindered, and it was his job to keep that pain going at him. He now was not required to just use a support move, but actually hit ‘em hard. Once again he began to summon up a current of electricity, but this time he did not generate a small blue ball. An indeterminately shaped mass of electricity constructed itself before him, nearly the same size as its creator. Small bolts of energy creased across its surface as more and more energy was poured into the blast. With another mighty screech the Galvantula let the electricity rocket at his opponent, consuming him in the powerful blinding energy. Mienshao now actually produced a yelp as he felt the pain pile up in his body, the strike quite powerful. Soon the electricity dissipated, but Mienshao was officially frustrated.

The Fighting-type knew that he had to get something more done this round, and so with the will-power of one trained in martial arts Mienshao pulled himself out of the cling of the paralysis and reassumed his fighting stance. Edison narrowed his two large eyes a bit as he realized he had not taken the fight out of his opponent. Mienshao closed his eyes and began to call upon the power of the earth. Stone and soil, Rock and mud, he channelled the energy through his body. This time successfully Mienshao slammed his foot against the ground causing a small tremor. Edison wondered what was happening for a mere second before the tarantula was overcome with dirt and rocks. He squealed as he felt his body being pressed hard against by this tough compacted soil, but he did not remain confined for long. Being a bug, he had no trouble in digging himself out of this problem. And with the scuttle of his legs he quickly pushed through the dirt barrier and returned to the surface. Mienshao couldn’t help being impressed at his opponent’s feisty attitude towards the battle.

Edison shook the last little bit of grime off of his limbs and began to assess his situation. He realized within a few seconds that he had a clear lead, though any more rock-type attacks would be troublesome at best. Playing into his trainer’s future strategy, the Galvantula slowly turned to the sky, and with a grace that surprised all watching the battle, the giant spider began to leap around in an intricate dance routine, combining spins and stomps, jumps and jives. At the end of the dance the arena seemed relatively unchanged, besides the few arachnophobia-ridden audience members who had very quickly escaped the scene when Edison had began to dance. However, soon dark and menacing storm clouds began to accumulate over the battlefield. In a matter of seconds the battlefield was being pelted by furious amounts of rain. A sarcastic cheer came from the audience, but besides that, all you could hear was the grumbles of those who had forgotten umbrellas. Mienshao sighed as his fur became sopped with water.

Mienshao was not really delighted to provide those who had forgotten their rain gear a reason to rejoice, but it was his trainer’s orders, and he wasn’t going to go against her. He did not have an intricate dance to perform to eliminate those pesky rain clouds; he just simply closed his eyes and called out to the sun. Soon all could feel the heat in the area beginning to rise, and the silhouette of the sun growing brighter behind the cloud cover. With a flash the rays of light broke through the Nimbus clouds, and the precipitation soon began to falter, before disappearing altogether. Above the sun was now as strong as ever, all traces of the clouds gone. Below, more people were able to relax again as the monsoon had passed, but those wearing heavy jackets were now feeling just as uncomfortable as many in the rain. It seemed that neither Edison nor Mienshao could please their audience members, but that didn’t really bother them much.

Edison did not like the furious sun now beating down on him, and with a bit of hesitation he began to prepare his next attack. He looked far into the sky and saw another cloud, much smaller than the ones he had generated, floating atop one of the many skyscrapers. It was considerably far away, but it would have to do. The capacity of the attack was too much for Edison to contain in his body, so instead he created a link between himself and the cloud, summoning up a goliath blast of energy to be launched from the cloud. He fuelled it with a great deal of energy, and when he looked up again the cloud had expanded and was now looking menacingly grey. Soon the mass of precipitation began to crackle with electricity, and with a giant crack of thunder a magnificent fork of lightning came down on an angle headed straight for Mienshao. It wasn’t as accurate as it could have been if the rain clouds had still been positioned above, but Edison’s luck held true, and the bolt hit Mienshao with an immense form. Mienshao screamed as he felt his body fizzle with the electricity coursing through it, and he felt his knees about to buckle. But no, he wasn’t going to give up that easily.

Mienshao stared at his opponent once more, in a fit of pure anger he called out a taunt, which the Galvantula quite clearly ignored. But now, Mienshao was about to return to his element, using his long training to his advantage. In a much more practiced way than the tarantula he was facing, Mienshao began to twirl and twist around, pulling himself into a feeling of Zen and power together. He tried to go as fast as possible, but his limbs were still horribly hampered, and he could not use his full potential, eventually he realized it was no use, he would not be able to get the full gain, and he started to slow himself down, eventually stopping altogether, panting slightly. Even though he had not been able to perform all of the attack he still felt a boost in his power, and he was looking forward to being able to wreak some real panic against his opponent. He had gone past the point of always being nice and refined, and just wanted to inflict some hurt at this annoying opponent of his.

Edison did not like the new spring in the step of his opponent, and he was a bit afraid to see what would come of that warrior dance that Mienshao had just performed. Of course, he couldn’t just sit there waiting to see how his opponent would act, and so he decided to proceed with his trainer’s orders. For the umpteenth time Edison began to charge electricity in his body, this time directing it at the back of his abdomen where he produced his trademark electric webs. He quickly scuttled around so he was facing away from his opponent, and then with a backwards thrust he sent a gigantic silky yellow web heading for his opponent. Now normally Mienshao would have had a better chance at dodging this giant silky offensive, but in his current paralyzed state he could do nothing but simply let the attack strike him, hoping it didn’t hurt him too much. As the web struck, all of the electricity accumulated over top of Mienshao, and he yelped in pain once more as he felt the electrical charges wreak havoc on his body. In his paralyzed state he had a great amount of trouble trying to pull himself out of the mess of silk, and when he finally did he was still covered in the sticky stuff, effectively slowing him down even more.

Mienshao was starting to feel down in the dumps again. He felt like a Mienfoo once more, always feeling like he would never attain that status of being a strong Mienshao. Well, he had gotten here, and now he was going to try with all of his might to make this tarantula suffer. He used all of the anger that he had felt from being paralyzed and sustaining a heck of a lot of damage to fuel his next attack, and with a now simply depressing speed he set off at the Galvantula. As he approached he let his face turn completely demonic, dropping the at-peace look that he had kept on his face for the duration of the battle. Well, Edison may have been the one with the ability Unnerve, but he certainly felt that the tides were being turned now. He slowly backed away as this horrible beast emerged him, and he shut his eyes when he Mienshao got too close. With a small leap Mienshao landed a greatly powerful tackle that knocked Edison back into the pile of dirt behind him. The pain was excruciating, but Edison gritted his proverbial teeth and dug himself out of the pile, ready to fight on.

Let's hope for the best.

First off, use Rock Slide. Then, use Swords Dance again. Finish off with a Dig, staying in the ground. If he protects or detects against Rock Slide, use Swords Dance. If he tries to use Rain Dance to enhance Thunder, use Sunny Day afterwards. This is the first priority in any action.

Edison was beginning to feel his electric energy start to seep away as he continued to use these quite strenuous electrical attacks, but orders were orders, and he couldn’t just ignore them to rest. No, he was going to continue pouring on the hurt and hoping he didn’t tire too quickly. Once again he began to generate this strange mass of electric energy before him that was so charged that those close enough in the crowd got shocks from touching anything. Edison continued to power up this attack, and while he did Mienshao began to feel weak in the knees again. And that is more painful than you may think, as he was still quite paralyzed. When Ediosn felt his attack had sufficient power behind it he released the massive bolt of energy. The electrical stream sped towards Mienshao where the fighting-type had learned of what to expect. The electricity was making him really mad, but all he could do was grit his teeth and continue his attack.

Mienshao was preparing to rip up more pieces of the cobblestone to throw at his opponent, but like before, just as he was about to stamp his foot down to summon up a great amount of rocks he felt his muscles tighten up in that telltale sign of full paralysis. Mienshao would have screamed in frustration if he had been able to, instead he once again sent that murder gaze at Galvantula, but this time the tarantula was too tired to look innocent, so he returned it with all eight eyes. He then decided it was time to get back some of that lovely speed he had lost thanks to his opponent’s Rock Tomb. He began to charge around the arena, scuttling at an absolutely insane speed. It was quite a sight watching the clunky arachnid speed around the arena. It very easily taunted Mienshao as he watched the limberness his opponent demonstrated. After his quick sprint around the arena Edison felt very pumped, and he could feel his speed greatly increase.

Well Mienshao was done. Done. He could not handle being paralyzed any longer. And yet Ediosn would continue to mock him, always making fun of his clunkiness now. Well, maybe he would be able to get some real enthusiasm on his side. Like a Darmanitan, Mienshao reverted into a state of Zen, letting the energy in his body come to life. Feeling his muscles start to loosen up a bit, the Mienshao began to dance around like a mighty ninja, almost as gracefully as before the battle, just without that feeling of true limberness. Mienshao wanted to push himself harder, trying with all of his might, but as hard as he tried he could not bring himself to get that full attack-boost. He started to slow down, letting his energy return back into the depths of his soul. He now felt just as good as if he had performed one Swords Dance even though he had used two. It was a bit of a let down, but he knew it was all he could do.

Well, the referee had saw it coming, and now Edison was to perform the one attack that would take advantage of the speed boost, the paralysis, and the fact that he was originally able to move just a bit faster than the Mienshao. He began to power up his most powerful electric attack yet. He poured energy into a giant ball of lightning that crackled and hissed in front of him. Every time Mienshao thought that this ball of light was just big enough, Edison made it much more powerful. Soon it was much larger than the tarantula, and when he fewlt that he would have no more control over the object he let it loose with a gut-wrenching squeal. The gargantuan ball of pure power flew forwards and catapulted Mienshao through the air. Hard. Only the invisible psychic barrier protecting the audience from the fight itself stopped Mienshao from careening through the crowd and into one of the skyscrapers around the battlefield. Edison himself was surprised at the outcome, but not at all displeased. Mienshao did not come to for a few seconds, but after a few moments of shaking his head he very gingerly lifted himself up off the ground and onto his feet. That had hurt.

Mienshao assessed the situation. He was aching greatly, his opponent was in a much better position and not yet suffered the same amount of scratches and bruises, and that tarantula was not paralyzed. All in all, it was not a very good situation. He was also very distressed that he had missed his opportunity to actually attack his opponent thanks to the paralysis riddling his limbs. Now however, he felt in his muscles that he was able to move again, and with a grunt he began to dig his paws into the hard cobble below him. He felt the rocks scratch his skin, but he had to power through. Soon he was below this layer and he was able to really start digging down into the ground. Eventually he felt he was low enough down that Edison would not be able to strike him, at least not very easily. There he sat down and began to massage his horribly aching muscles.

Mienshao felt that his paralysis was not being quite so insolent as he prepared to dig himself up out of the tunnel he had created. He anticipated that he was somewhere below his opponent at the current time, and that if he sprung straight up he would hit his opponent, no sweat. His only worry was that his paralysis would kick in mid-dig, and he would be caved in inside the tunnel. The league would rescue him of course, but the battle would undoubtedly be lost. With a sweep of his arms Mienshao began to dig up the earth above him, causing it to cascade down below him. His tunnel slowly filled up as he approached the surface. Up above the cobble Edison heard his opponent began to surface and he quickly began to erect a translucent shield in a full sphere around himself. He was well prepared. In a spray of cobblestone and dirt Mienshao burst forth from the ground, victorious that he had managed to avoid becoming hindered by paralysis. But he was stopped short in his jubilance as he flung himself straight into Edsion’s transparent shield. Mienshao cursed the Galvantula once again as he backed up to his original spot.

Now that Edison’s opponent had emerged once more, the large arachnid was able to prepare itself for a setup attack once more. And the taunting that was thrown in was an added bonus. Once again the Galvantula began to build up speed, charging around the arena faster and faster, pushing himself to his limits to make himself as fast as possible. Mienshao continued to look on, and gradually his eyes narrowed with hate as he watched this obvious insult to his lacking speed. Well, he would show them. He would show all of them. Soon Edison began to feel himself tire even more as he continued to speed around the arena, his legs scuttling so fast they appeared as a blur. However, he couldn’t go on forever, and so he began to slow down, eventually stopping and panting slightly. He had arrived exactly back where he had started, showing his practice with the attack. He was now so fast that he was beginning to twitch with anticipation. Mienshao cocked his head slightly as he saw how insane his opponent seemed to have become. The Mienshao then shook his head, realizing the consequences of all of these agile boosts.

Mienshao was at this point relatively sure that there was no way that he was going to win this battle for his trainer. His opponent had simply attacked much stronger and more strategically at the beginning of the battle, and now he was so far behind that a come back would be considered legendary. But of course, not attempting this amazing feat would be against the sacred code of the Mienshao, so he had to try. Once again not feeling paralysis deciding to mess with him, Mienshao began to stomp his feet against the ground, this time successfully, and soon large chunks of the cobblestone were being tossed into the air. With a swing of his arms and the whips of fur along them Mienshao batted all of the rocks in the direction of Mienshao. The slide of stone struck Edison full on, and the bug’s legs began to shake frantically. Mienshao was unnerved by his opponent’s creepiness, and he backed away slightly. Edison continued to struggle under the rocks, slowly but surely managing to free himself.

Once Edison got the last piece of rubble off of his back he began to charge his attack once more. He was not miffed at all by the fact that he had just been struck down by a mercilessly powerful super-effective blow, knowing just as well as Mienshao that he was undoubtedly going to win this battle. He once again began to put all of his electrical energy into a swirling mass before him. He powered up this gigantic shining sphere of pure energy that radiated before. Many of the audience members were forced to look away as the shining ball pulsated before Edison. Mienshao groaned as he realized what was about to happen once more, but then realized his trainer had understood the command and had given him a course of action to take. He hastily assumed his fighting stance and watched fearlessly as his opponent continued to charge up his attack. Having no way of seeing his opponent through his attack, Edison blindly fired off his almighty Electro Ball. Mienshao called up all of the fighting-type prowess he possessed, and with a mighty leab and a scream he vaulted over the Electro Ball. This time it was only the attack that crashed into the invisible wall between the arena and the audience. Mienshao was now starting to feel better, having recovered a small bit of his old speed and feeling a bit more into the battle. However, time was running out.

Arena Notes:
-The cobble has been disrupted behind where Edison stands, a large pile of dirt mixed in with the stones residing there now. There is also a Galvantula shaped indent in it from the Façade
-There is also a long-ish tunnel behind where Mienshao is which also created another pile of dirt and stone

Ref’s Notes:
-Ugh. I forgot about Sunny Day up until now, but the effects are long gone I would say
-This is your last Round coming up, make it count

... Ouch.

Not like I'm gonna win anyways. Detect on the third action if he attacks.

Rock Slide ~ Stone Edge ~ Drain Punch/Detect

1 vs 1
DQ Time: 3 Days
Damage Cap: 35%
Banned Moves: OHKO's, chills, direct healers

Edison, extremely sure of his abilities throughout the battle, began to once again generate a massive ball of pure electrical energy. He was glad the battle was almost over, as his stores of energy were being greatly depleted. However,, if his energy stores were low, his opponent’s health was at the breaking point. Though Mienshao had managed to avoid being damaged at all in the last round, he still couldn’t stop twitching from all of his aches and pains. Looking on the brighter side however, his muscles were not nearly as bunched up as before, and he was starting to feel that he might actually be able to move freely again. This was good as he would be able to avoid some of the damage that was about to be sent his way. Edison had charged his Electro Ball to the max once more, the giant crackling sphere looking as strangely ominous as usual. The Galvantula let the massive attack loose, and it careened straight for Mienshao. The fighter couldn’t dodge the attack as well as he usually would have been able to, but the lack of strong paralysis meant that he was able to avoid a portion of the attack. Edison hissed as he realized his opponent was gradually speeding up.

Now Mienshao was free to attack himself, and he would not waste his turn, not at all. He no longer needed to test his limbs as much as before, simply shaking them would prove if they were not able to move or not. Doing just that, he found that he was able to move with about 90% of his original swiftness, or at least he felt that way. But at the moment he didn’t need swiftness, he needed strength. The now motivated Mienshao began to slam his feet against the cobblestone once more. Calling it cobblestone was a bit of an overstatement, now more of a paved road with a few rocks attached. And some dirt piles. And a hole. Not exactly the nice peaceful fountain area that it had been earlier. Mienshao lobbed these stones up in the air, and in an overexcited strike bashed them senselessly towards his opponent. Doing something that reckless was not the Mienshao way, and this Mienshao payed for it. Edison moved quickly to the left, and the Rock Slide just barely missed him, instead flying past and striking the protective barrier and then rolling off. Mienshao then felt like crying. Oh how he had become a failure. Edison felt sorry for his opponent for a second, and then remembered how much the previous Rock Slide had hurt him. Needless to say, his feelings of remorse quickly evaporated.

Edison still felt slightly compassionate, and so he didn’t start his next attack until his opponent had gotten control of himself and had returned to his shaky fighting stance, ready to somehow dodge the next onslaught. Edison then began the same old routine for the final time with this trainer. Blade had served him well, and he was slightly sad that he would have to leave him at the end of the battle. He would no longer be Edison afterwards, just GAV-089 [League] once more. And that was not an altogether exciting nickname. He finished charging up his Electro Ball for the last time, and nearly thought of decreasing the power just a tiny bit for his opponent’s sake. But no, Blade would not accept that, and he wanted to impress his trainer when he got him into the next round. He released the massive ball of electricity, which as usual went on a direct course for Mienshao. He once again made the small attempt to dodge the attack before being bowled over by it again. Mienshao was now enveloped in so much pain that eh could barely stand up. His world was turning hazy, the cheers from the crowd sounding like repeating gunshots to his aching head. But he still had to perform until the very end.

Mienshao very slowly heaved himself up onto his feet, where he stood on shaky legs once more. The paralysis still lingered at the back of his brain (or at the back of his nervous system?), but that did not matter to him anymore. All that mattered was inflicting as much pain as possible on that horrible Galvantula. Mienshao began to break off rocks from the cobble once more, this time smashing them once again so they had sharp edges on them. The Galavntula began to back up slowly as he realized what was about to happen. He wasn’t even going to hope that his opponent would miss this time, his determination was too great. Mienshao this time smashed these dangerously sharp and pointed rocks at Edison with a sort of Zen calmness, knowing that winning was not in the cards, and thusly using much more technique when he used his attacks. Edison saw the attack coming, but decided to make no attempt to dodge the blow as it approached him. The searing pain was immense as the rocks sliced up his skin, but he knew it was nothing compared to what his opponent was feeling.

Mienshao now started to wait for his opponent to counter, but no such move was being made, and so he took the opportunity to deliver his attack and hopefully regain some health. It seemed fitting that luck would finally go his way and he would be able to attack before his opponent. Or so it seemed. As Mienshao began to race forward and deliver one last blow he felt those telltale signs of pure depression. As he placed one foot in front of the other his muscles locked completely in place, and there was nothing he could do except look forward and into the blue eyes of his opponent. Two words were sent telepathically with this glare. Two words that this battle’s referee wasn’t about to type. Edison still thought this last motion (or lack of it) might be a ploy to catch him off guard, and so he still generated a transparent shield in front of him as he had done when his opponent had burst out of the ground earlier in the match. As he slowly let this shield dissipate after a few moments Mienshao burst out of paralysis and began to charge forward once more, hoping to get in that last attack before the match was called- TWEET!!! The sound of the referee’s whistle resounded through the area as the battle was finally called to a close.

Ampharos, the referee, and a league Porygon2 approached the two battlers. The small floating Pokemon began an analysis of the two battlers, and soon a loud computerized voice coming form the Porygon2 announced the results of the match, though they were relatively obvious; “GAV-089 – 87 Points, MIE-015 – 43 Points.” Now knowing for sure, Ampharos called out to the crowd. RespectTheBlade is the winner! After this announcement Mienshao and Edison were returned to their Pokeballs, Mienshao still glaring at Edison, but glad for the rest. A group of Aggron began to work on rebuilding the cobblestone area now that everything but the fountain had been almost completely destroyed. The crowd then began to dissolve, going to watch another one of the battles that had not yet finished.
