Arena: Cave of Origin (Ruby Version)
The version of this cave is the one seen in Pokémon Ruby, post-capture/defeat of Groudon. The participants battle in the deepest cavern. There are five rocky tiers that the Pokémon may battle on, with crystals that radiate extreme heat dotting the arena. If any non-fire-type Pokémon touches these crystals, they will lose 3% health, and have a 5% chance of being burned. The centre of the bottom tier is a pool of lava. Any Pokémon that is not fire-type that falls into the pool will be instantly burned and will lose 5% health, but they will be teleported on to the third tier before serious injury occurs. If a fire-type falls in this lava they will not be burned, but they will still sustain the same amount of damage.
Additional Rules: A Pokémon can not be ordered to hold their opponent(s) in the lava or against a heat crystal.
Pre-Battle
The battlers and referee finally made their way to the Cave of Origin. It wasn’t an easy task, as several wild Pokémon attacked them during their travel and an old man was blocking the entrance,
spitting curse words at them and weakly hitting them with his cane. But those misadventures were soon forgotten as they entered the lower floor of the cave.
The room was formed as a pit, with leveled eaves on the walls, spiraling down the edges to finally dive in a pool of molten lava. The battlers had plenty of space to battle, however they had to be careful not to trip, or else it was a direct downfall in the lava.
Dapper Deathclaw, though, didn't want to lose his precious time admiring the scenery, so he quickly threw two Poké Balls on one eave. They cracked open in a luminescent explosion, revealing his allies; a small larva-like Pokémon with a white mane, Larvesta, and the ever-popular electric mouse, Pichu. Ampharos retaliated sending out on the opposite side of the field a yellow duck Pokémon, who instantly grabed his head upon being sent out. Her teammate was, erm… well it was a spherical Pokémon with the exact design of a Poké Ball, except it had eyes. Upon its appearance, the Voltorb started rolling around, generating the electricity it would need for the battle.
Without further waiting, the referee waved his flag to signal the battle finally started.

Round I Start
Spatz engaged the battle by setting up the green energy shield everyone knows about. It started up as a simple energy veil, but suddenly flickered and solidified, forming a vast cocoon around the electric mouse. Spatz squeaked happily; he was finally protected against the horrible heat of the arena.
Sfera, meanwhile, started to yell random insults at him, in vain. No matter how hard it tried, how
mean its words were, Spatz was completely unaware of them, comfortably sitting there behind his energy wall. The Voltorb had no choice but to give up, not without a grim look on its face… ball… thing.
Helios, observing the scene with amusement, attempted to set up a protective screen on his own. The air in front of him started to shine as energy gathered, slowly but surely forming a large wall before him and his ally. This one however, did not solidify, staying there, flickering, and finally disappearing, leaving golden particles all around. It had not vanished, though, and anybody who would have looked carefully would have seen that Helios’ image was slightly distorted when observed from certain angles. The Larvesta felt that the Light Screen was draining some of his energy, however he did not mind much: it would without a doubt be useful in the future.
Finally, Zbrka the Psyduck got to move. She began rotating her arms in a water-bender fashion, hoping to gather enough water to use her devastating attack. The air in the cave, however, did not contain
any water. Any water molecule in the air had been heated up by the lava and had swirled up to the higher levels. Zbrka lowered her arms with a pitiful look on her face. Not only that, but her head was also hurting like hell; it was definitely a bad day.
Spatz, on the opposite side of the arena, let his green energy shield shatter, regaining contact with the rest of the world. The heat wave from the lava swept him and he frowned, annoyed.
Back on Team Ampharos' side, Sfera started to generate some electricity, gathering it into its spherical body. After a few seconds, she launched a weak jolt. The small electric bolt described an arc as it crossed the entire arena to finally land on Helios, who felt it pierce his skin and find a way to his nervous system. The Larvesta cried in despair, losing the control of his muscles for several seconds. His legs were shaking jerkily and he quickly lost his balance, diving head first on the rock. He finally recovered, but when he got up, it was visible that it was painfully more difficult for him to move around.
Seeing his teammate in that pitiful state infuriated Spatz. Weak, strategic moves were not for him. He was seeking revenge, however this time it would
really be painful. His cheeks started to glow as electric currents flowed through his tiny body, and when he could take no more, released it in a beam of electricity. The attack flew towards Zbrka at blazing speed, striking her directly on the torso and sending her flying until she hit the wall behind. It took her several seconds to get back up, holding her head and grimacing in pain. She was getting used to her headaches, though, and in no time, she took a huge breath and spit an enormous torrent of water. The jet swirled to Helios, but the Light Screen appeared in front of him at that precise moment. The golden wall reflected a major part of the attack; sending myriads of water drops in the lava pit, where they almost instantly evaporated. Meanwhile, the part of the attack that the Light Screen had failed to block still smacked Helios on the wall, drenching his white fur and knocking him out for a few seconds.
When he finally got up, his horns began to glow a hellish orange and his mane burst out in fire. Seemingly unaware of his stiffened muscles, Helios ran to Sfera, his fiery fur blazing behind him. The Voltorb had no time to evade and was forcefully tackled by the bug engulfed in flames. The hit had been surprisingly painful, as if it had hit a major weak point. Sfera was sent rolling, and Zbrka stopped her partner's course with her full body, otherwise her teammate would have fallen directly into the lava. Helios, meanwhile, felt that his muscles were felling more limber, and it was easier to move than before. He was still handicapped by the paralysis, though.
Sfera, still recovering from the Larvesta's attack, decided to finally put some hurt. It closed its eyes and started rolling in the direction of Helios, picking up various shards along the way. It rolled all the way around the pit’s shallow edges, until it finally reached the opposite cliff. However, instead of smashing directly into the fiery bug, it tripped on a small ledge which made it bounce in the air, and when it finally crashed in Helios, the force of the impact was much more important than usual. The torch Pokémon stayed there, sprawled on the rock, unable to get back up… for the moment, at least. Making contact with a blazing opponent wasn’t harm free, though, and soon Sfera found out that Helios had left a searing mark on the lower part of its body.
Spatz was
still unharmed by his opponents but couldn’t endure the sight of his wounded and bruised ally. With a rageful war cry, he launched another discharge of electricity at the poor Zbrka. The Psyduck, this time, could only turn around and cover her head with her tiny arms before the jolt struck. She had been able to stay on her two legs, but she was visibly hurt, frenetically massaging her temples in vain hope of diminishing the atrocious pain. The battle wasn’t over, though, and she had to fight until she won. With that idea in mind, she once again spitted a massive torrent of water in Helios’ direction. This time again, the Light Screen burst out of nowhere to block the hit. This time, however, instead of filtering the cataract, the protection seemed to concentrate it in a compact, watery arrow that pierced the Larvesta’s mane to reach his neck, and he squeaked in pain. Despite his golden shield, Zbrka’s attack had definitely struck a weak point. Weakened and drenched, Helios had to make desperate efforts to stay on his shaky legs. Despite his state, he gathered all his courage to set his body on fire again and ran to Sfera. Like a blazing bullet, he charged the Voltorb with all his possible might. The attack wasn’t his strongest, but it was definitely useful to slowly recover the usage of his nervous system, and Helios had the feeling he would soon be as agile and limber as before.
By the end of that quite demanding round, the four Pokémon looked at each other, panting and fiery-eyed. Slowly, the barbaric spirit of the cave dweller was crawling upon them.

Notes:
- I'm pretty sure you noticed I played around the team summaries, so if you don't like them this way I don't mind changing them back to the standard.
- Taunt failed due to the Protect.
- Soak failed due to lack of water source.
- Helios’ first Flame Charge, Sfera’s Rollout and Zbrka’s last Hydro Pump were all critical hits (!!!).
- Helios’ current base speed is 45.
- Helios’ Flame Body
barely burned Sfera (I rolled a 30), so I reduced the severity to light.
- Double Battles are much harder to keep track of, so if you see any mistakes, typos, etc, feel free to tell.
- They are also veeeery long to write, so I might not ref as often as single battles. However, I just started my summer holiday, so it should be within the DQ time.
- I DECLARE BY MY LORD AUTHORITY THAT RAGEFUL IS A WORD.
Arena Notes:
- Team Deathclaw’s platform is steaming from Zbrka’s Hydro Pumps, but besides that the arena is still as Groudonesque as ever.
Next Round:
- Dapper Deathclaw orders first.
