Squornshellous Beta vs. Ole_Schooler

So, Dawg went from dog to cat to mouse...I have a sneaking suspicion we're moving down the food chain. If he's a plant next...

Arena Description: The Third Anomaly
The Third Anomaly is, as its name suggests, an Anomaly. Arceus only knows how the battlers got there or how they'll get out, but such is the way of the universe. Also unknown is how anyone can see, being as there are no visible light sources, but it is as bright as a typical midsummers midday. It is, at least to begin with, an infinitely large plain white platform floating in nothing. As the battle goes on, however, that platform changes to whatever is required by the battle - if, for example, there is a fish Pokémon on the field, there will be a large pond to swim in. There will be air for everyone can breathe. If Sandstorm is used, sand appears. And so forth. The gravity there is only half of Earth's, so each Pokémon is only half as heavy for things like Grass Knot. This also removes any energy cost that Flyers or Hoverers would need to fly or hover, be they Inherently or Consentually.

The most important effect of this Anomaly is that at the end of each round, both Pokémon in battle will have their moveset and ability replaced with that of another Pokémon. This can be any Pokémon in existence, including Legendaries. Also, the Pokémon are dazed and confused after this change, so as soon as the first round is complete and the first change has taken place, the Pokémon can't listen to any commands and their moves are selected randomly, similar to Sleep Talk.

Another of the major effects of the Third Anomaly is that at the end of every round, at the same time as the changes, both battlers' energy is restored to 100%. Not infinite energy, note, so if a Pokémon uses incredibly energy-intensive moves, it could, at least in theory, faint from energy loss. As though to compensate for this, if a healing move is used, it will fail.

The last effect of note is that at the beginning of every third round, a random object will appear. Any object, from sardines to submarines, and they can appear in any manner the ref wants. What they do is also entirely up to the ref. They vanish at the end of the round, again in a manner of the ref's choosing.

Hmm, Dawg thinks as the round starts. What can I do to immobilize this guy? The conscious line of thought sends a message to his subconscious, which generates what it thinks is the perfect move choice. Without warning, and without a choice in the matter, Dawg and his two clones step forward and begin to confess their love for Ni Wá Wa and praise him for how amazing he is. The Baltoy, unfortunately, doesn’t even notice their efforts, and instead plows through one of the clones, making it fade into thin air.

But this doesn’t deter Dawg. The Riolu sends for his subconscious to pick another move—it’s not like he actually knows what he can do anyway. And his subconscious is probably better at it than him anyway. Soon, he gets feedback, and his right hand begins to crackle with electricity. Soon, he can’t bear the charge any more and releases it in a focused beam at his opponent…where it hits and disappears without doing anything. Clearly, Dawg’s subconscious doesn’t know who his opponent is.

Ni Wá Wa is now ready to retaliate. The Baltoy gives the closest thing to a smile that the ref has seen from it all battle, and begins to send a brainwave straight into Dawg’s head. The contents of the wave are hidden, but the meaning becomes clear almost immediately from Dawg’s reactions: “Whaddaya mean? I’ve been working my butt off over here!...No, you!...Oh, you little…” Then, without hesitation, the Riolu dashes toward NiWá…and trips and falls flat on his face. The Baltoy takes the chance to use its psychic power to manipulate Dawg’s senses…except it mis-aims. The Riolu loses its focus and his clone disappears as his Substitute dives in to take the attack, fading upon impact.

As the Riolu lifts his head warily and trudges back to his trainer’s side, he can swear he sees his opponent snickering at him. Ooh, he’s gonna get it! Just wait until next round! And here the light comes now! As the silver light envelops both the battlers yet again, NiWá begins to levitate again, and Dawg feels a fiery sensation in his body. Excellent, he’s gonna be able to burn out his opponent. Just what he wanted!

By the time the next round starts, Dawg is ready to go and beat the living crap out of his opponent. He knows he can, he just knows it! Let’s start off with a simple attack, he thinks first, so as not to lose his bearing on reality and trip and fall again. Just fun over there and punch that thing. So he runs. And trips. To top the icing on the cake, that is exactly the moment when Ni Wá Wa begins to spin, very very rapidly. From nowhere, a wind appears, tainted with the dark hatred and malevolent sadness and anger. The wind’s contents surge right into Dawg’s mind, causing him considerable mental pain on top of his searing headache.

Well, today obviously isn’t a good day. Well, maybe he can try a Special Attack. Maybe…Flamethrower? Well, that’s a start! Slowly, the flame sacs that were in his mouth from birth but weren’t ever supposed to have been used by him began to excrete the hot substance. It channeled up through his esophagus until it was in his mouth, and right then…“OH MY GOD MY TONGUE IT BUUUUUUUURNS HELPMEHELPMEIMONFIREHELPME”. And then the Riolu promptly fell flat on his face.

Chuckling a little (on the inside of course), NiWá began to raise its arms for its next attack. Then, not caring about her opponent’s slight handicap right now, she launched a beam of dark thoughts and horrible emotions; in short, she launched dark-type hell at her opponent. Wasting no time, Dawg rolled up from the ground only to look straight into the attack. With no time to dodge, he had little choice but to take the impact…with his head. Sent spiraling through the air, he landed harshly on the ground. Oh, come ON! He was supposed to be resistant to that stuff!...

But then a new train of thought takes hold of the Riolu. Maybe this’ll work… He begins to channel up some of the power the silver light has given him, to decimate his opponent with it. He raises his arms and points at his opponent with a scary orange light in his eyes. Then, right where he’s pointing, a spark appears. And grows into a large bonfire almost immediately. Dawg laughs at his success…that is, until he sees a little ghostly blue flame to his right, beginning to disappear after missing its target. And…there’s the Baltoy. He missed entirely. Oh, just his luck. Why even bother trying any more?

And then the silver light came. It enveloped both the battlers yet again, as was its custom, apparently. And again Dawg felt a change. He was a humanoid again…and he had the powers of Grass at his control. Sweet! Meanwhile, NiWá was receiving a pokémon all of its own. Powers that it wasn’t accustomed to. Wonderful. Though it probably didn’t matter at this point.

Dawg is tired, but that’s no reason to quit now! He’s just got to finish off his opponent! And mark his words, he will. Maybe he can start with a support tactic and hope his foe won’t kill him now? Yeah, that’ll work. The Riolu opens his mouth, letting out a small seed that flies through the air and lands on Ni Wá Wa. Upon impact, the seed bursts open into a huge amount of vines, which all spread across their new host’s body and suck out its life force.

But Ni Wá Wa isn’t particularly worried about that. Instead, the Baltoy concentrates, then flings its arms out as everything goes white—even whiter than it was before, in fact. Dawg rubs his eyes from the attack. Oh, that did NOT help his headache at all. And now there are spots in his vision. Well, what now? Now that he has his support it’s time for the final blow, right? Yeah, right. The Riolu runs forward at his opponent, intending to deal damage, but doesn’t see the space bump in front of him. As he tumbles to the ground, letting out a single wail, the vines around NiWá’s body recede. The ref waves his flags. The battle is officially over!

Final Notes
Well, that was fun. No really, it was. Although Veekun was a bit uncooperative at times, the descriptions for your battle were some of the most fun I’ve ever had the pleasure of writing. Thank you, and I’m sorry for taking so long sometimes!

And now for the fun part. Prizes, everyone! Now let’s see here…Okay. Beta, you won, so you get $24. I get $15 for reffing, and ole_schooler gets $9 as a consolation prize. Strigiformes, Brick, Ni Wá Wa, Dawg and Ace each earn 2 EXP, and Tomas earns 1 EXP. Good game, people!

Awesome. Would've preferred to dispatch it with a dramatic Thunder or something, but at least we won. :D And now I can evolve Níwa and Brick.

Thanks for battling me, ole_schooler, and thanks for reffing, Superbird.

Yeah, that was fun. Much more fun than just a Metronome battle, I think. Thanks for the match, SB, and for the great reffings, Superbird.

(The RNG is a fickle mistress...)
