Pathos vs. Star69

bulbasaur

Not quite e^(-(x-μ)²/(2σ²)) / (σ√(2π))
2 vs 2 single
DQ Time: One week
Damage Cap: 40%
Banned Moves: OHKO's, Attract
Arena: Mini Golf Course

Basically, what the name says. Except it's really big. There's faux grass, bridges over pools of water, flags, everything you picture when you imagine mini golf. And it's huge. Big enough to support a pokemon battle. Although, that's probably not what it was built for.

The pools of water are definitely not big enough for most pokemon - they're about 4 feet by 4 feet each, and covered in small bridges, so they can only hold the smallest of water types. They are sources of water though, and there are a bunch of them.

He is able to use Metronome to the effect that whatever attack it draws forth is remembered for 1-3 actions or until metronome is used again, at which point the newly used attack will replace the old one. ARE THOSE EMERALD SPRITES I SEE :D

Hm... a cleffa? Let's let Joey get some fighting experience.

Start off with a nice Thunder Wave to paralyze 'im, then follow up with an Attract. (gotta love status ailments) Finish up with a good strong Crunch. If he ever Protects or through some other method makes your moves miss, Defense Curl on that action.

Thunder Wave/Defense Curl~Attract/Defense Curl~Crunch/Defense Curl

Magic Coat both thunder wave and attract. They will be hitting you so Joey shouldn't switch to defense curl, then Counter the crunch. If she can't attract/crunch, substitute for 10% and then Work Up.

Magic Coat ~ Magic Coat / Substitute (10%) ~ Counter / Substitute (10%) / Work Up

Pre-round

Who didn't play mini-golf when they were young? Miniature rivers, miniature bridges, miniature trees, miniature decorations - fun for children and adults alike. Now, there is an unwritten law in Asber which dictates that Pokémon battles should be held only in the most illogical of places, and logic dictates that as time wears on, people are going to hold them in even more absurd places. Another dimension? Yessir. A burning city under evacuation orders? Mm-hmm. A mini-golf course? Surprisingly, no. Pathos had to do something about this injustice. And thus the two trainers, Pathos and Star69 found themselves facing each other at a relatively large mini-golf course. The air was cool, the sun was out, and the players were present, along with a sizable audience consisting mainly of upset kids and parents. Both sides had picked their Pokémon, with Pathos choosing a Cleffa holding a silver bell producing relaxing sounds when rung, and Star69 choosing a famous Rattata. Each side's Pokémon were checked and found to be in suitable health, the trainers gave their orders, and finally, the battle started.

Round 1 begin!

Tye, slow as he was, acted with startling speed as he set up a shiny translucent mirror, and not a moment too soon, as Joey produced a yellow wave of electricity and sent it Tye's way. It leapt rapidly onto Tye's mirror, then bounced back with twice the speed to the unsuspecting Tye; he felt sluggish and disorientated after this strike.

The referee had eavesdropped on Star69's commands and was now watching Joey with the utmost suspicion. As soon as Joey started to open her mouth, no doubt to flow with unwarranted praise, the referee walked onto the battlefield and clamped it shut. Tye, seeing this, knew that Joey wouldn't be able to use Attract, as per banned moves agreement. Cracking a grin, he made a likeness of himself out of his own health, which then sprang to life, taking a place before him, ready for whatever may come.

And come it did. Joey, impatient as ever, struck out with her fangs which radiated darkness. It hit its mark, or so she thought before she pulled her teeth out and saw that Tye's Substitute had taken the hit for him. Tye, patient as ever, stood in position, waiting for the opportunity to retaliate doubly, only to be disappointed when the referee signalled the end of the round.

Round 1 end!

Damage and Energy Calculations

Action 1
Magic Coat: 3% energy
Thunder Wave: 3% energy

Action 2
Attract: Failed, 2% energy for attempt
Substitute 10: -10% health, 5% energy

Action 3
Crunch: 8% damage (substitute), 6% energy
Counter: Failed

Notes:
  • No critical hits
  • Crunch did not lower defense.
  • Attract is banned
  • I had Joey's paralysis start at moderate, because it was her own spores that caused it, and she should be less affected because of that.
  • According to Veekun, damage done to a Substitute doesn't factor into Counter.

Next round:
  1. Pathos commands
  2. Star69 commands
  3. I ref

Go ahead and Work Up while you've still got your sub up, then Secret Power away. If she protects/detects at any time or is just plain unreachable, Work Up again; if she's got clones, Shock Wave.

Work Up / Secret Power / Shock Wave x3

This is a 48-hour disqualification warning for Star69. Please post your commands within that timeframe lest you stand the risk of disqualification.

The kids and parents waiting on the sidelines soon grew bored of the inactivity of the battle as Star69 just stood there blankly. He soon got pelted by a tomato, but didn't even notice as he just stood there, comatose. Eventually, the ref gave up and just handed out the prizes and dragged Star69 out of there, to the cheering of the crowd.

Star69 is disqualified. Prize distribution is as follows: 2 EXP for Tye and one for and Joey, $8 for Pathos, and $5 for me.
