That was it. Heralded as a heaven of competitive balance (although this quality is very often disputed), practically the face of fairness over fun. Typically void of objects brought from outside, usually fought on with equal starting ground, mostly populated by foxes.
It was the infamous Final Destination, of course.
The perfectly flat surface glistened with the starlight as the trainers and referee arrived, each by their own means. Metallica Fanboy quickly reminded the trainers of the house rules: no items, no handicap, Fox only, Final Destination. And then they proceeded to break the third one by sending out two humanoid, but reptilian Pokémon. One of them was brown and had a skull stuck fast into her head, whereas the other, a little closer to human shape, was mostly yellow and had a loose patch of skin from the waist downards that it would ocasionally pull up to the neck.
While it would be all but pointless to enforce the Fox only part, the referee still got to scold Loa for dual-wielding bones. One he could let slide, but not two. A bit frustrated, the Cubone tossed one of the primal weapons aside.
With each battler taking position at an edge of the extense platform, the battle began.
Vuvuzuru waited for the opponent's move, which turned out to be cut in close and lash out with a spinning bone lunge, vaguely reminiscent of a drill. Even with the elemental advantage, the attack was annoying at worst.
In response, the Scraggy began to mock her oppponent. Nyet nyet nyet, that was so wimpy. Maybe if you had the bone that didn't suck you'd be able to attack like for real.
With that out of the way, she started to perform a series of acrobacies. Although very limited by the narrow area, she still managed to unlock deep-seated Dragon-type energies known to be present only in those of her kind that come from draconic lineage. All along the way, she never realized one thing: Cubone are masters of belated, but effective revenge. As soon as she settled, she was struck out of the blue by an insanely powerful, nearly explosive punch.
That was a Focus Punch, widely regarded as the ultimate Fighting-type move. Although it requires a great degree of, well, focus, it can be pulled off if the user is left undisturbed for enough time. Which was just what happened while Dragon Dance was in use.
Such was the strenght of the attack, that its victim was actually flung quite a distance away, nearly falling off the arena. The heightened agility granted by the draconic energy flowing in her body allowed her to hang onto a ledge with just the right timing, thankfully; still, she was sure, at that point, that she wasn't going to let that dangerous idiot go unwatched much longer.
While lunging in for a counterstrike, Windragon's Pokémon was struck a second time by the drilling lunge. It was, again, little more than a minor annoyance, although that meant a little more after the heavy damage from the other attack. That little thing aside, it was time for superiority to be established. With an ice-cold punch to the snout.
Just as the orphan Pokémon got up from that last blow, the battle ended, with both battlers eying each other hatefully.
