The Metronome Contest

Hmm.

==> GLaDOS: Crush your foe

Bounce up on the first action, then combo with Jump Kick the second. If she tries to hold you down, just drag her up with you and use that to make her easier to hit.

Bounce (Up) ~ Bounce (Down) + Jump Kick

Lessee...

Plop down and yawn to yourself on the first action, as this is quite boring, no? Then launch into two Vacuum Waves in quick succession, which should unbalance your opponent to the point that the Kick will miss. End with Splash, looking happy and disinterested in the malware over there. If you can't do two Vacuum Waves that quick, use Cross Poison first.

Arena: Metronome Contest Hall
After all sorts of zany locations, it all goes back to the egg -- to the place where the first batch of appeals took place. It's pretty standard; the seats are reminiscent of a cinema, but instead of a big screen, there's an ample, woodboarded stage. Elements needed for moves that rely on environment, such as Surf, will just plain materialize as needed. As with any Metronome Battle, grand destruction is freely permitted and encouraged; screw the audience's safety, they've already paid for the last ticket anyway.
Arena status: Several portions of the hall were set on draconic fire, and meteors landed in multiple locations. The firefighters are scrambling to withhold this new threat. At least the steam is done fogging shit up. The crowd is still electrified (non-literally).

-----

While the momentum had been at a clear spot up until that point, there were still several rounds to determine the fate of the battlers.

Using the rush of energy still left over from the Flame Charge earlier, Enojada swiftly lunged towards the enemy, swiping with her trunk while a blade of Poison-type energy slashed in the opposite direction. The attack landed right on the top of the head, leaving a distinctive cut as well as several "ERROR ERROR ERROR" utterings.

Activating its antivirus system to try and deal with the poison that had gotten in, GLaDOS started to bounce around. The crowd seemed to notice, but didn't particularly care. The sheer relaxation of just bobbing up and down was certainly calming, though, and it helped the data Pokémon focus and prepare for the next attack.

Its opponent had apparently tried to attack with a quick, vacuum-powered blast of Fighting-type energy, but moving targets are difficult, and bouncing targets are specially annoying. Without further ado, the Porygon2 readied to show that Phanpy some actual Fighting. It bounced forwards a short distance, then took impulse as it bore up, going higher than usual. As it bore down, it stretched out one of its feet. The elephant Pokémon tried to shield herself from the impact with her trunk, but that turned out to be a terrible idea -- the downwards doom's impact went right through, and still managed to get the head, while also nearly breaking the trunk.

Coloursfall's Pokémon settled back, satisfied with the results obtained by that attack. Little did it realize what was about to happen next.

Enojada's eyes glew red as she released an infernal sound. The ground started to shake. The air felt distorted. All of a sudden, flames of multiple colors engulfed the hall, certainly killing any spectators and even the firefighters. Then there were explosions, terrible explosions. The last thing the trainers and judge saw before fading to black was a rainfall of pink-and-green broomsticks, making thunderous rumbles as they landed.

... Yes, that is totally what happened when Splash was used.

Additional notes:
- Even with a fast Pokémon, Vacuum Wave + Vacuum Wave wouldn't be exactly probable; for a Phanpy, still pretty slow with the 1+ from Flame Charge, I'm pretty sure it wouldn't happen.
- Cross Poison and Bounce + Jump Kick both scored critical hits. The former also caused poisoning. Yes, this is possible.
- The Vacuum Wave on the second action missed because Bounce was being used.

-----

Little by little, the hall recovered from the Splash attack. The second draw slowly reached for its halfpoint, and as such, the competition would heat up.

At first, GLaDOS' feeling cores were overwhelmed with a rush of uncertainity. Made all the worse by the fact that, being made of code, it could absolutely not truly grasp the meaning of uncertainity. The unfortunate tickling event freshened up in its memory (which is actually something you'd expect it to have), and it couldn't bring itself before the risk of blunder yet again.

And then the sensors on its head, functioning unusually due to the Cross Poison attack earlier, suddenly felt patting. When the Porygon2 realized that that came from the opponent's trunk, it backed away reflexively, expecting an attack. But Enojada hardly seemed to be attacking. In fact, it was as though she wanted to apologize. She started talking about how she didn't want that little prank to end up like that, and that it was a worthy opponent, and that it shouldn't be feeling down on itself. Or whatever is it that computers have for feelings.

At that point, the situation was so utterly bizarre for the virtual crane Pokémon, it needed to close its eyes and take some time to figure out what was going on. As it did so, it stimulated its own pressure sensors along the backside through a command, and in response, they booted up defensive archives, strenthening the armour beneath the watery surface.

Meanwhile, the Phanpy, too, started to set up. She began to roll in place over one of the curtains that hung around by the corners of the stage, generating a cover of static electricity. It was stuck fast enough not to move away on contact, as well -- be it with the ground, be it from a touch. That dealt with, she looked at her brooding opponent, smirking. Boy, that underhanded consolation trick sure worked wonders!

She looked away for a moment, and last thing she knew, a massive, red pincer smashed into her face, leaving a red mark all over it. "BOOT UP APPROPRIATEQUIP.WAV; YOU'RE RIGHT, I AM AN WORTHY OPPONENT."

Wow, that was even worse than trickery! However, the crowd ate it right up. One could practically feel the momentum shift. It was the elephant Pokémon's turn to face apathy, as the audience hardly noticed when she pulled off her next impressive move: a faint green whirlwind whipped up from her upwards-pointing trunk, carrying with it a swirl of leaves. Then, the leaves were blown all around with brutal force, many of them smashing straight into GLaDOS and absorving the fluids in suspension around its surface.

People only seemed to notice the fact that some of these leaves flew into flames and caught fire. More work for the firefighters. One of them sighed loudly upon noticing it.

-----

Both trainers seemed satisfied with what they were dealt that round, as the end of the battle approached, came to be within sight.

GLaDOS spat up a fireball, which grew larger and larger as it hung around the air, drawing neat upwards circles. At its maximum altitude, it was so enormous, its heat could be felt from a distance. And it was at that point that it jerked down, straight into its target, exploding noisly upon contact.

When the Fusion Flare landed, it spread yet another blaze around the hall, this time burning up mostly the stage. Seeing this, the captain of the firefighting brigade yelled, "Could you guys NOT set everything on fire while we try to contain the rest of your fuck ups?"

Boooring. Everybody knows Metronome battles are all about fires. Or anything that will completely annihilate a building.

Standing silent within the flames, Enojada gathered the charged electricity around the tip of her trunk, unleashing it in a single crackling thunderbolt. The voltage passed through the Porygon2's watery surface with ease, spreading and causing a major series of stiffening muscles.

The data Pokémon proceeded to leap into a gap among the flames, flipping into its head as it did, then spinning around over it, similarly to a top. In this stance, it extended its legs and moved within range, giving its opponent a faceful of sweet, tasty cyberfeet. In response, the Phanpy started to use her next attack, unleashing a bombardment of round, explosive objects. However, being too close to the target, most of the projectiles missed, the blasts on the ground spreading the fires even further.

The two battlers got themselves out of the ring of fire, then readied to carry out their next commands. The arena damage wasn't over just yet, though, as the woodboards of the stage cracked beneath the elephant Pokémon's feet, erupting with Ground-type energy upon her belly.

By that point, it was very noticeable that the tables had been turned. GLaDOS was on the lead, and the crowd's attention was on it.

Enojada's next move was to start rolling in place, a layer of frost sprouting around her body. As the ice grew thicker, it started to crackle with electricity. When it was considerably large, the Phanpy rolled forwards, striking her foe with both a freezing chill and a minor zap.

Normally, the legendary signature move would have been impressive; however, the audience didn't pay it much heed. They didn't find it as thrilling as the Earth Power attack earlier.

With the thin difference in points in the first draw, whoever won the second one would be likely to take them all. So, in a way, the next round would determine, more decisively than anything else, the winner of the Metronome Contest. Excitement spread more intense than any of the fires in the hall.

-----

Paying very little mind to the live flame licking the stage, Metallica Fanboy began to ramble about the Metronome Contest. How this round would be the end of it, and how tough was it for the two battlers present here to reach the top and how we all really cheered for both of them but only one will rise victorious and it's time to see which one it is so without further ado round ten blah blah blah.

The two finalist trainers spun around their respective limbs as they uttered to each other, COME AT ME, BRO. They were underestandably fired up, and so were their Pokémon.

GLaDOS cried out "OVERSIZED BOULDER CANNONS ACTIVATE" as a stone at least four times its size materialized above it. With a loud noise, the rock was sent tumbling airborne, crashing right over Enojada.

Those who saw it didn't think one could even live through that kind of wrecking. She had a terribly rough time squirming out from under the gigantic weight, and by the time she was out, she was almost completely covered in bruises.

But, in a move that started to shift the momentum back her way, the Phanpy, instead of doing anything about her rough predicament, gathered static by rolling in place and then shot against her foe at a magnificient speed. Such was the impact, the bounceback hurled her over the boulder she had been pinned under.

At that point, the code Pokémon gazed upwards, quietly playing extraominouschant.mp3 as it released massive updrafts of energy unbeknowst to all in the hall. All of a sudden, yet another hole was torn into the roof. This time, it was more than a meteor.

Those who were around for Coloursfall's first-round appeal saw a familiar face at that moment. It was none other than the legend itself, the creator of reality. It was Arceus.

"You, whose effort to generate life ultimately leads to destruction thereof. You, who insists on carrying a trait that has with valid reason been wiped from your kind. I deem thee unworthy."

A bright light illuminated the hall as showers of rays blasted down upon Enojada. They didn't outright incapacitate her, but they did leave her severely weakened.

Holding on to the very last of her strenght, the Phanpy once more gathered static electricity in her body. Then, again, she rammed into her foe straight, making an audible impact as she did.

However, the reckless, live-wire attacks proved to be the Phanpy's undoing. When her rolling ceased, so did any of her movement, save breathing. She laid limp on the ground, battered far too hard to keep going.

Stating that GLaDOS had a sum of health and score totaling 441 over Enojada's 345 was a formality at that point. That final moment had made it visibly clear who had taken the victory, and who was to stay as a worthy runner-up.

Additional notes:
- Enojada was finished off by her own Wild Charge recoil.
- As I've stated earlier, if each battler won a different draw, the victory that scored highest would take priority. And it's needless to say that this second draw was won by an ample margin.

Congratulations, Coloursfall! Your Pokémon have earned the Metronome Ribbon!
5rwewwh

(credit goes to Squornshellous Beta, as well as long-overdue fifteen bucks)

Along with this, as stated in the first post of this topic, you have also earned $60 and a buyable Pokémon of your choice (although your squad hardly needs any sort of expansion).

Of course, our runner-up, Blastoise Fortooate, is not far behind in deserving congratulations and in receiving rewards. For reaching as far as he did, he gets $25 and a Pokémon of rarity between 1 and 4.

And... That's all, I guess. Along the way until here, there were lots of waits, there were lots of people who got inactive -- not even just the participants, since that includes one certain secondary judge -- and there was plenty of reason to think the Metronome Contest would just at some point freeze over and keep gathering dust, never to be finished. But it was, and spectacularly, at that.

So, there was talk of the next Metronome Contest, wasn't there? I suppose we can still use this topic for that.

Good game, my dear boy! It was a close one I must say. Good luck to everyone next time!!

Hmmm...how long do I have to choose my prize pogie? also can it have dream world abilities?

I think I have decided, at any rate: A Male Archen?
