The Battle takes place in a nice garden. It's very green and well-kept, full of rose bushes and flowers and small trees and what have you. It's a good-sized garden, about 150 feet square. There is a large birdhouse in a clump of bushes in each corner, and bird Pokemon can be seen gathered there sometimes. A pond is in the top-left corner. There are no hazards here...except one.

A large white Gazebo is in the dead centre of the arena, and it's about 30 ft across, 15 ft high, with a pointed top. If it is hit with an attack, it will animate and start to attack the battlers. When animated, it resembles a white wooden dragon. It joins the battle with 50% health and 50% energy, is a Grass type, and can use the following attacks: Body Slam, Slash, Wood Hammer, Synthesis, Scratch, Headbutt, Crush Grip, Defense Curl, Giga Impact, Bulldoze, Quash, and Heavy Slam. It's base speed is 80, and it weighs 250 lbs. It acts on the Ref's orders.

Cyndra stared incredulously at her trainer. Eruption? When she was terribly wounded and exhausted? The attack would be little more than a puff of ash. Orders were orders, though, so the Quilava prepared herself for what she sensed would be her last attack – a pity that it would be laughably weak. She focused as well as she could in her battered state, struggling to stoke the flames on her head and rump. In response, they grew a bit brighter and leaped a bit higher, though the result Cyndra’s efforts were barely noticeable. Throwing her head back, she coughed up a cloud of ash. Big Daddy couldn’t help but chuckle at the pathetic attack. He wasn’t even bothered when some of the ash landed on him; there was the faintest of stings, but it quickly disappeared as the ash cooled off.

The wind carried the ash towards the large white gazebo. As the soot touched the wooden structure, there was a loud creak, but fortunately for the battlers the Eruption was so feeble that the gazebo felt no need to rise and defend itself.

Big Daddy waited for another moment, in case Cyndra was about to use a real attack on him. No such thing happened. Shrugging, he coated his claws in dirt, then rushed towards his opponent. Cyndra was too injured to even try to dodge. Another slash and shower of stinging debris, and the fire Pokemon collapsed into a bloody, dirty heap. There was no doubt that she had finally slipped into unconsciousness.

At that HP, Eruption had 6 base power, so it did a whopping 1%.
Ordinarily I’d have the gazebo activate since Eruption is a widespread attack, but since it was so weak I rolled a die to see if it would animate. The die decreed it would not.
Cyndra fainted on the first action.

It took a while for Zora to consider her next choice, but at last the comatose Cyndra was returned to her Pokeball, and her replacement was sent out. Another quadruped took form, but this one was smaller, with a shorter body and proportionally larger head. The white light faded and Scarlet stood on the grass. Unlike in most battles, the Zorua entered the fray without the protection of a mirage. The little black animal bared her fangs at Big Daddy, who flinched warily. He knew he wasn’t going to last long against the Illusion Pokemon.

Both creatures were about even when it came to agility. They lunged at the same time, Big Daddy with a giant paw raised and Scarlet with teeth and claws at the ready. In the end, Big Daddy had the advantage of a longer reach, and he managed to club Scarlet on the head with a powerful karate chop. Scarlet was knocked to the ground, dazed, as remnants of fighting energy stung her forehead. The Brick Break was fairly easily shrugged off, though, and soon Scarlet lunged forward again for the final blow.

Eager to avenge her fallen teammate, the Zorua attacked with fury and fervor, gnashing her little fangs and pummeling Big Daddy with her paws. The weakened Drilbur was in no state to weather the enraged assault, and he soon succumbed to the pain, bleeding from many fresh cuts. Feeling her opponent go limp, Scarlet backed off and howled victoriously. In her Pokeball, Cyndra tasted sweet revenge.

Coloursfall barely took any time considering his next battler. A burst of white light cut Scarlet’s victory boogie short; sensing danger, she growled at the emerging shape. The form seemed quite small, and Scarlet smirked a little too early: Coloursfall’s next battler was Sunnyside the Larvesta. A fire-type, if the sudden panic of the garden inhabitants was anything to go by. And a bug-type. Scarlet hated her weakness to what many considered the one of the weaker types, but she braced herself and prepared for battle regardless. Seeing the Zorua’s battle stance, Sunnyside spat out a puff of fire and did her best to look threatening.

Scarlet immediately set her mind on weakening her opponent. A poisoned bug was much easier to handle. Drawing toxins from her body and snapping up a few mouthfuls of dirt for good measure, Scarlet brewed a vile potion in her mouth, pulling a face at the terrible taste and gritty texture. Hearing the telltale sloshes of a Toxic in the making, Sunnyside crouched where she was, ready to block the attack…

The foul concoction completed, Scarlet sauntered over to Sunnyside and spat it all over the Larvesta’s back. At least, that was the intended target; instead, the Toxic stopped midflight and tricked down an invisible barrier. Dumbfounded, Scarlet saw the faintest shimmers betrayed the presence of a Protect shield, and she yowled in frustration.

If Sunnyside could not be weakened, then the alternative was to strengthen her own abilities. Scarlet smirked to herself and deftly scraped her claws together. The sounds created when the sharp instruments scraped together sent adrenaline coursing through her blood. Moments later, Scarlet’s claws were sharp and shiny, and she wiggled them threateningly at Sunnyside. The Larvesta seemed unimpressed. Those huge blue eyes blinked once before the previously-invisible mouth opened. Instead of fire, as Scarlet had been expecting, a thin line of a white substance shot forth. Scarlet squealed in disgust as the String Shot was plastered all over her fur.

Now that her progress was inhibited by the sticky string in her fur, Scarlet could only strain to move as Sunnyside began to attack in earnest. A terrible buzzing noise issued from the fiery bug. Scarlet shrieked as the powerful sound drilled into her ears, causing her brain to reel and her entire body to tremble. Even when the Bug Buzz faded away, Scarlet’s ears ached something terrible.

It’s a bit difficult to provoke one’s opponent right after being subject to such an effective attack, but Scarlet did her best. The Zorua jeered at her opponent, mocking the ridiculousness of the Bug Buzz – attacking with just sound? Really? Good luck getting anywhere with that! Sunnyside shrank back a bit, her confidence wavering. She’d seen Scarlet cringe against her attack, but maybe she was right. Maybe a good Bug Bite would show the Illusion Pokemon her place.

Sunnyside took a deep breath and expelled a stream of fire from her throat. The flames washed over Scarlet, singeing her fur, and the Zorua whimpered. Why did a bug get to use fire? Relishing Scarlet’s pained noises, Sunnyside kept the blaze going, her heat-resistant throat eliminating any adverse effects breathing fire. At last Sunnyside had run out of breath; the Flamethrower stopped and the Larvesta panted slightly, a few drops of molten liquid trickling from her mouth. Scarlet winced and regarded her scorched fur with disdain.

Scarlet shook herself to get rid of any soot, then began to chant in an ominous voice. All around Sunnyside, thin purple lines were etched by an invisible hand. The lines connected to form an irregular, multi-faceted object, each face inscribed with a glowing rune. The Larvesta looked around in fear, but didn’t dare run in case hitting one of the purple streaks would hurt her somehow. Finally, the object was complete; with a final shout from Scarlet, the shape shattered, as did some knowledge within Sunnyside. She found herself without any knowledge of toxins, even those present in her own body.

Well, she wouldn’t need poison to defeat Scarlet. Sunnyside rubbed her stubby front feet together. There were ridges on the tip that, when rubbed together, created an awful noise. Scarlet winced at the familiar buzzing noise. It felt like someone was driving nails into her ears. By now the Zorua regretted mocking her opponent, as she was starting to feel worn out.

Hearing the sound, the gazebo seemed to twitch. When heads turned towards it, though, it seemed completely still.

Scarlet badly wanted to match Sunnyside blow for blow, but she was ordered to dance instead. With a sigh, the Zorua reared up on her hind legs and took a few steps, snout pointed to the sky. An eerie howl sounded through the garden. As Scarlet continued to jump lightly back and forth, clouds began to gather overhead. At first it was a light shower, then it quickly worsened to a downpour. The garden inhabitants groaned, but at least there was less danger from fire now.

As soon as Scarlet finished dancing, Sunnyside lunged forward and sunk her tiny teeth into Scarlet’s foreleg. The Zorua yelped in pain and tried to shake Sunnyside off, but the bug Pokemon stubbornly held on. Scarlet could now feel bug energy seeping into her leg from the wounds, and a terrible stinging travelled up the limb. Growling, she extended her claws on her other foreleg and slashed Sunnyside across the face. With a squeal, Sunnyside let go to nurse her first wound of the battle. The cut wasn’t particularly deep, but it stung fiercely.
