Many of the TCoD League's trainers are taking a protracted vacation to Unova, traveling around the region and dropping into different cities to watch or battle in the ongoing league championship. There's one group that's been taking a vacation of a different sort, though--a select few who elected to venture into Unova's Dream World rather than take the normal route around the Unova region, with the promise of a battle at the end of their excursion and a place in the league championship if they should emerge victorious.

There are many paths through the Dream World, but they all end at the same location: the Tree of Dreams, an incrediblly ancient plant whose boughs are draped with the dreams of pokémon from all around the world. It is thought that those who bring an offering to the tree's base may be able to change their dreams into reality, but there will be none of that today. No, today there will be only battling, the opportunity to change dreams of glory into reality for those who were unlucky enough to miss the earlier championship registration period.

The area around the base of the Tree of Dreams is a simple grassy field, offering nothing in particular to help or hinder any battler. However, since this is, after all, the Dream World, pokémon will have no trouble accomplishing astonishing feats like conjuring tidal waves from nowhere or dropping spectral rocks on their foe. There are no restrictions on the kinds of attacks that can be used here, save those imposed by the league.

[Mal] Electabuzz (M)
Ability: Static
EXP: 4
Item: Electirizer

Body Modification: Static Heat

It's not a strange thing, for elekid to avoid physical contact. Their ability - static - makes all contact a gamble, even with other elekid. But of course, there was something a little strange about the static generated by Mal.

Something that often gets ignored - while electricity will shock you, it might also leave you burned. And something about the electricity that is naturally generated by Mal, perhaps it sparks to form heat instead of power, or maybe it's just a genetic thing - a stray recessive magmar somewhere in his ancestry - either way, whenever he touches someone, they feel hot instead of jumpy.

Effects: Mal's ability is Flame Body instead of Static.

Move Modification: Triboelectric Effect

"The triboelectric effect (also known as triboelectric charging) is a type of contact electrification in which certain materials become electrically charged after they come into contact with another different material and are then separated (such as through rubbing). The polarity and strength of the charges produced differ according to the materials, surface roughness, temperature, strain, and other properties."

Mal is fascinated with the science of electricity and enjoys practicing and manipulating the energies in any way he can. Through this he has learned to employ it in an interesting way. He charges himself to the point where he cannot contain the electricity anymore and then launches at his opponent with maximum speed. Though the impact is light, it's so fast that it's nearly unavoidable and the electricity stored is so hot it leaves bright scorch marks where the opponent was hit.

Type: Electric ~ Base Power: 5% ~ Stat: n/a ~ Energy: 4% ~ Accuracy: 100% ~ Target: Single ~ Duration: One action
Effects: Priority +1. 40% of burn.
Usage Gap: Every 5 rounds

[Castiel] Togetic (M)
Ability: Serene Grace
EXP: 4
Item: Shiny Stone

Body Modification: Serene Metronome

Togepi are one of the few pokemon who learn the metronome attack, and here in ASB, that has not gone unnoticed. Many a metronome battles are had, where metronome and only metronome are used; the thing is, these battles require no skill whatsoever.

Pedesi, being a determined little fellow, was quite displeased with the utter randomness of these battles. He was quite sure that he was the better metronomer, if only he had some way of proving it. And so he set about on finding some way of doing so.

After many exhaustive battles and practice sessions in which Pedesi's improvement was slow, something clicked, quite literally. His constant metronome-ing had worked - he had found it, that thing that made his metronome superior to others, just like he knew he would.

Effects: Pedesi's metronome acts as normal, but whatever attack it draws forth is remembered for 1-3 actions or until metronome is used again, at which point the newly used attack will replace the old one. Metronome costs 1-2% more energy, as do the attacks Pedesi uses that he's learned through the use of metronome.

[Chase] Feebas (M)
Ability: Swift Swim
EXP: 0
Item: Prism Scale

Body Modification: The Ugly Duckling

Chase is not your ordinary Feebas. It is a known fact that both Feebas and Magikarp can be seen in freshwater. Chase was born among a group of Magikarp and Gyarados in a particularly large lake. One might ask how this is possible. Most clearly seen in the games, Feebas are notorious for often moving around. This was the case with Chase. Chase's mom was pregnant and had to lay her egg somewhere. Although she didn't want to leave her egg alone, she was forced to abandon it. If she didn't, she would be left behind, never to see her tribe Feebas and Milotic ever again. Chase, you could say, was lucky. A newly hatched pokemon wouldn't be able to fend off for itself against natural predators. Chase was lucky to have hatched in a place where there were many Magikarp and Gyarados. One of the Magikarp, due to Chase being similarly feeble, pathetic, and floppy, decided to adopt Chase. All the other Magikarp didn't mind having Chase around because they felt better whenever Chase was around. Seeing a particularly ugly fish, even uglier than them, the Magikarp were fairly pleased. The Magikarp, even those born around the same time as Chase, felt that they were better than him and went on to bully him. They were far superior after all. By bullying, I mean both physical and verbal bullying. Apart from the insults, the Magikarp and Gyarados have taken to randomly bashing Chase for no reason at all. The Gyarados are very cruel due to them often being in a rage. They frequently toss Chase around with their tales. Chase didn't let the bullying get to him, however. He took on an, "I'll show you all. I'll show you all how much better I am than all of you," attitude. Deciding to become better than his fellow fish, he trained hard, splashing and flopping to the best of his abilities. When he finally grows up, he wants to be like the ugly duckling who turned out to be beautiful than the other ducks.

Effects: Due to wanting to impress the other Magikarp and wanting to show them that he is as good or even better than them, Chase tries very hard. Due to this, he uses more energy than the average pokemon. For most moves he performs, he will expend an additional 3% energy. Moves recquiring Chase to take a break, such as rest and chill, are not affected by the additional energy usually expended. Although Chase expends more energy than other pokemon, this doesn't go without and benefits. Wanting to fit in, Chase has always imitated the other Magikarp and Gyarados. He has gained the ability to splash very high. By practicing almost all of the time, he has almost perfected his splash, to the point of him being able to jump to a high enough altitude for his final velocity upon reaching the ground to be poweful enough for him to be able to slam the ground with high impact. Also, by watching Magikarp flop around and by watching Gyarados bounce, Chase has learned to splash upwards the moment he reaches the ground from a previous splash. This translates to him being able to use the moves body slam and bounce in battle.

Due to the other Magikarp and Gyarados often bashing Chase, Chase's body has adapted and hardened to provide at least some defense against the abuse. He has developed an extra layer of scales. Chase gets a level of increase to his defense because of this. Due to the extra layer of scales however, Chase is slowed and his speed is reduced by one level. The changes in defense and speed are permanent and unaffected by moves such as haze.

[Crystal] Ralts (F)
Ability: Trace
EXP: 0
Body Modification: Dr. Lucafont's Mental Enhancement Chip

Somewhere in the underground society of the local ASB lies Dr. Lucafont's clinic, where all sorts of shady operations are done. Whether for scientific purposes or for plain sadistic humor, most anything you can think of, through the use of illegal procedures, or contraband substances, or both, can be done here. Of course, these operations are all hush hush - no questions asked. While operations are mostly a success, sometimes, there are, for lack of a better word, undesired side effects. There have been rumors of pokemon which have been modified beyond recognition which have been secretly locked up and pokemon who've become mentally ill because of the practices at this clinic, but that's beside the point.

Always looking for pokemon to test new procedures on, Dr. Lucafont, when not performing an operation, wanders around the streets of Asgard, ready to kidnap any unprotected pokemon. Crystal is one of these pokemon test subjects.

Upon "picking up" Crystal, Dr. Lucafont immediately went back to his clinic. After using a few potent sedatives, Dr. Lucafont made his assistants strap Crystal to a gurney and bring her to the operating room. Dr. Lucafont wanted to test his brand new "Mental Enhancement" chip. This chip, supposedly, causes any thought to be "echoed", in effect, increasing the output. A few hours passed, and Crystal, still under the effects of the sedatives, was brought out of the operating room. She was then released back into the streets and was secretly followed by members of Dr. Lucafont's team. The following are observations of the team. Lines immediately following the observations are notes. (They refer to Crystal as patient 027)

1)Patient 027 seems to frequently suffer from headaches.

*The headaches are similar to the migraines often observed in Psyduck.
*Whenever patient 027 suffers from headaches, her psychic powers are extremely powerful.
*Patient 027 doesn't seem to be fully in control whenever these outbursts occur.
*Apparently, these episodes are caused by the chip. The amplification of the thoughts seems to be too much for patient 027's brain.

2)Whenever patient 027 isn't suffering from one of her headaches, her psychic ability, seems to be either as powerful as her ability prior the operation or weaker than her previous ability.

*When her psychic ability weakens, it is probably due to the chip. The chip only works because it gets its power from the electricity in patient 027's brain.
*After being implanted, the chip was able to extremely weaken patient 027's psychic abilities, leaving her with the characteristics of a normal type pokemon. However, over time, through both practice and natural development, she has gotten reacquainted with the psychic skills she lost.

Effects: Every round, there is a 50% chance that Crystal's psychic abilities are enhanced. This acts like a +2 stat boost to attack and special attack but only applies to psychic type moves. For clarity: If Crystal's psychic abilities are enhanced, and she uses magical leaf, nothing happens. However, if her psychic abilities are enhanced, and she uses confusion, calculations will be done as if Crystal has a +2 in special attack. Every round, there is a 30% chance that nothing happens to Crystal's psychic abilities. Every round, there is a 20% chance that Crystal's psychic abilities are reduced. This acts like a -2 stat reduction to attack and special attack but only applies to psychic type moves. For clarity: If Crystal's psychic abilities are enhanced, and she uses magical leaf, nothing happens. However, if her psychic abilities are enhanced, and she uses confusion, calculations will be done as if Crystal has a -2 in special attack. The stat boosts or stat reductions disappear after every round. These stat boosts or reductions aren't affected by moves such as haze. These stat boosts or reductions do not allow Crystal's stats to exceed the +/-6 limit. Crystal is now a normal and psychic type. However, Crystal has not relearned all her skills yet, so she can't use skill swap, trick room, imprison and future sight.

[Fondue] Wartortle (F)
Ability: Torrent
EXP: 2
Item: Wise Glasses

[Static] Mareep (M)
Ability: Static
EXP: 1

Body Modification: Scented Wool

Static has a habit of sleeping in fields. Among the fields he sleeps in, he spends the most time sleeping in a particular field full of plants that have a strong scent. This sickeningly sweet smell is extremely potent, having the ability to hinder and mess with the thoughts of pokemon. A strong enough whiff may even lull a pokemon to sleep. Because Static spends so much time in this field, spores tend to cling to his fleece, causing him to smell like the field. Also, the scent doesn't have much of an effect on Static because of all the time he has spent in the field. Only a small amount clings to his wool, so the scent does not disperse very far.

Effects: Whenever a pokemon makes contact with Static, there is a chance for that pokemon to become confused or asleep. There is a 20% chance of confusion (severity of confusion is based on how strong a whiff a pokemon gets and is left to the discretion of the referee) and 10% chance of sleep. The effects of the scent only come in play when pokemon make contact with Static, and ally pokemon can also be affected. Only one status may be inflicted per instance of contact because any one status inflicted is distracting enough to negate the others. Because spores tend to cover his tail, light doesn't pass through as effectively. Due to this, his flash is less effective and has a 70% accuracy instead of the usual 100%.

Just want to clarify. This isn't a metronome battle?
If it is, I'm using Persephone and Lurline. Metronome x3
That doesn't seem to be the case though, so... Static and Persephone, go.

Static: Use a agility. Next, use cotton guard. Finally, use charge. If you can't do these for some reason, thunderbolt Castiel. If you're asleep, sleep talk.

Agility/Thunderbolt@Castiel/Sleep Talk~Cotton Guard/Thunderbolt@Castiel/Sleep Talk~Charge/Thunderbolt@Castiel/Sleep Talk

Persephone, aromatherapy when applicable. If you fall asleep, sleep talk except on the second action. Otherwise, toxic. If a follow me comes up when you're supposed to target Mal, gravity. On the third action, do a rain dance instead of toxic.

Aromatherapy/Sleep Talk/Toxic@Castiel~Aromatherapy/Gravity/Toxic@Mal~Aromatherapy/Sleep Talk/Rain Dance

Okay! Mal, you first. Focus Punch Persephone for the first two actions, then use Charge Beam on Static.

Castiel, Hyper Beam Static, then wait till Persephone finishes her attack and Heal Bell. Then wait till Static finishes her attack and Psych Up her stats.

Mal: Focus Punch @Persephone x2 ~ Charge Beam @Static

Castiel: Hyper Beam @Static ~ Heal Bell ~ Psych Up @Static

As the Asber League’s 2011 tournament winds around the traditional gym circuit, a few late entrants are instead given another way in—a trip into the world of dreams, where they have access to their pick of native pokémon. And, in a series of three battles, three trainers make their way into the tournament, skipping the battle in the frigid Cold Storage that the earlier participants must endure. But not everyone venturing into the world of dreams is interested in the tournament, or even the pokémon and berries within. Some trainers just want to battle. And compared to the Dream World, where the potential is unlimited, where no move is impossible, what better place is there for a battle where anything can happen?

pathos and Skylark had almost come here under a different, much more fun set of rules before Negrek gave them devastating news—their pokémon would not benefit from such an endeavour. Fortunately, they were quick to change the rules before the battle began, more eager to profit than to see what would happen in a world where nothing can truly be destroyed.

pathos tosses two poké balls onto the grass. One bursts open to reveal a newly-evolved togetic, who flutters his new wings with delight, while the other spews out an electabuzz holding onto a yellow box. He peers at Skylark, who’s hastily stuffing a poké ball back in his pocket in exchange for another, and raises a fist. So that’s the one he should be beating up, right?

Just in time, Skylark releases a mareep and a chansey, and the electabuzz shrugs. Perhaps later. Skylark gives his pokémon a series of orders, and they nod in turn. It’s simple enough. But their confidence sinks somewhat when they notice pathos’s smirk, and Skylark visibly winces when he hears pathos’s counter.

Round One

Mal crouches and pulls a fist close to his body. His eyes narrow at Persephone, but to her surprise, he doesn’t move to hit her. His fist takes on a dim glow that slowly brightens, but he still doesn’t move. Deciding she may as well ignore him for now, Persephone waddles up to Castiel and sprays purple sludge all over his body. Castiel barely reacts, though he can feel the sludge weighing down his feathers and he thinks he feels something cold seeping through his skin. A translucent ball of orange light forms near the tip of his nose, quickly expanding as he shoves more energy into it, and he releases a brilliant white blast that tears Static from the ground. Static quickly gets to his feet and vows not to let that happen again—but for that to be true, he’ll have to be faster than the togetic. He darts around the grassy field, letting his blood pump through his loosening muscles.

Only then does Mal explode into motion, throwing himself off the ground and driving a fist into Persephone’s body. The force throws her onto her back, and she struggles to stand and scramble away from Mal. But he just grins at her and braces himself again, clenching his hand into a fist that already emits a soft orange glow.

Static, with no intention of being hit that hard himself, sends sparks through his wool. With an abrupt pop!, his wool explodes into thrice its thickness, sending a weak but pleasant aroma wafting through the air. Its newfound fluffiness does nothing for its grace, though; his wool just barely reaches the ground, wrapped around his legs, and his nose and tail orb just barely stick out of the wool. Persephone gives Mal a nervous look. She doesn’t want to get any closer to him, but she’s not exactly an expert at projectile vomiting. She ventures as close as she dares, drawing more toxins from a gland near her throat, and vomits more purple sludge onto the electabuzz. He barely flinches, though. Instead, he exchanges glances with Castiel and smirks.

Castiel raises a paw. A soft glow envelops his paw, which brightens and spills out to form a bell-like shape hanging underneath. Though seemingly made of pure light, it acts solid enough; a slight jiggling of his paw is all it takes to get the bell tolling. A sweet chime resonates through the air, an angelic sound that seems to purify everything it touches. Not only do Mal and Castiel feel better, but the dangerous toxins in the sludge become totally inert.

And now… time for some (more) payback. Persephone can only look on in dread when Mal leaps for her again, unable to move out of the way before his fist ploughs into her abdomen once more. He backs off, grinning. Easy as anything, just the way he likes it.

Electricity builds up around Mal’s body, a brilliant aura that makes Persephone wince. She doesn’t know if she can take another attack, even if it’s not a repeat of those devastating blows from before. But when Mal throws out a hand, it’s not in her direction. A thin beam of light crackles through the air and pierces through Static’s wool. But Static just grunts. The slight electrical burn is nothing he can’t deal with, and the extra static electricity now stored in his extra fluff can only help him. He closes his eyes and draws the charge deeper into his body, from the air and ground as well as his wool, and his tail-orb glows brighter with every passing moment. Energy courses under his skin. He vibrates with anticipation. Yes—he’s ready to go.

Persephone lets out a sigh of relief. Alright, so nothing more is coming to her. That’s fine. Just fine. She’s so happy she could let out a little twirl~ and dance~ though there’s more to it than that. Dark clouds form overhead, heavy with moisture, and upon her last dramatic step, the clouds release their hold. Fat, cold drops of water splatter onto the grass and against skin and fur and feathers. The trainers, though, blink in surprise when they suddenly find umbrellas in their hands. It must’ve always been there; they just hadn’t remembered it, is all.

Static barely notices Castiel’s intrusion into his mind, or the sudden exposure of all his feelings and confidence of the moment. He doesn’t notice the change in stance, either. Castiel shifts from foot to foot, feeling more limber even as something not quite like armour burdens him, and a thin layer of energy runs under his skin like armour of a different kind.

First and foremost! If any electrical attacks find their way towards Castiel, I want you (Castiel) to hide behind Mal, and you (Mal) to shield Castiel. This should not take an entire action, especially if you spend the round close together, so do that! Do not stray from each other, capisce.

Alright, Castiel, you first. Natural Gift Static. If they're protect/detecting or otherwise unhittable (not due to clones, naturally, and not because of sub), Nasty Plot.

Mal! Thunder Persephone twice, then Charge Beam again. If they've set up a light screen, Brick Break it (hitting Persephone); if Persephone is unhittable (not due to clones, since the rain should clear up which is the real chansey, and obviously not because of a substitute), charge beam either Static if you can, or the air if you can't hit her either.

Round one wasn't so good, but no reason to despair.

Static, I want you to use Cotton Guard. Then, send two thunders towards Castiel. Castiel will only be behind Mal, so that shouldn't stop you from hitting. Also, if you can do so without wasting an action, try to intercept Mal's attacks.

Persephone, use Psych Up on Static after he uses Cotton Guard. Then Giga Impact Mal twice. On the second action, wait for Static to use thunder first. If for some reason it hits Mal instead of Castiel, Giga Impact Castiel instead for the second and third actions. Also, if you can do so without wasting an action, try to hide beneath/behind Static to avoid Mal's attacks.

Mal positions himself in front of Castiel and grins at Persephone. He won’t be getting in those punches again, but he doesn’t have to—and she’s guaranteed him his weapon. He raises a hand to the dark clouds Persephone summoned and calls to the static building in the clouds. He traces its path through the air, from the charges in the clouds to his target, several times in his mind before every pokémon on the field is blinded and deafened all at once, an eye-searing flash accompanied by a roar of thunder that seems to shake the ground itself. Persephone shudders and contorts under the assault, and even after the momentary flash of pure pain that left branching burns across her skin, she finds herself locked stiff.

Castiel peeks out from behind Mal and draws energy from deep within. He, well—he has quite a lot making him unique, but as of yet, a signature technique is not one of them, and there is nothing to call upon but his pure essence, uncoloured and untainted. He opens his mouth and fires off a hastily-aimed beam of white light that once again pierces Static’s wool, shooting off a shower of sparks, and burns into the skin beneath. Static grumbles; what good is his fluffy armour if it doesn’t protect him from the attacks his opponents are already using? The energy still thrumming beneath his skin might have mitigated it somewhat, but what he really wants is to release it. But still, he’ll fluff up again if his trainer thinks it’ll help. With a small grunt of effort, he releases just a little more static into his wool. Once again, he seems to explode. This time, though, there seems to be nothing left of him but a fluffy white cloud casually lying on the grass. Persephone, though she can barely move, can still connect to his mind and draw the feelings of protection and safety into her own; even some of his limberness gets through, though it can hardly compare with the actual fact of her muscles being locked up.

And it’s hardly going to get any better for Persephone. Mal’s grin widens and he draws upon the clouds once more. A bolt of lightning crashes down from the sky, shooting pain and fire through all of Persephone’s senses. Impossibly, she feels even less able to move when the pain recedes to a slow burn, and she can’t help but wonder if it’ll let her move when she has to. Castiel once again pokes out his head and shoots a thin white beam at Static, and, hidden under the wool, Static’s expression darkens. Stand behind Mal to avoid retribution, will he? Oh, but that is doomed to failure. His intent is—and has always been—not to attack from head-on, but from the sky. It’s as though the former egg-thing thinks the rain is for their benefit. Static grins. That’s not the case at all. His turn.

The electricity under his skin crackles and roars, and it leaps up to the clouds above. Scarcely a moment later, a massive bolt of electricity spears through the air and crashes down on Castiel. Mal’s eyes widen comically when he realises his plan was foiled, and he turns on Static, steaming (thought that may have more to do with the sheer heat of his skin). Castiel collapses.

Persephone sneers. What, a single lightning bolt and the togetic’s already down? She took two—and look at her. She can still move, albeit with more effort than usual, and she took two. And now, it’s time for revenge. Energy from within leaps up around her, brilliant flames unhindered by the rain, spinning and raging and promising pain. She runs, and, though hindered by stumbles and stiffness, manages to leap into the air and crash down on Mal with all her strength. Mal grunts and stumbles back himself, tripping over Castiel, who just opens an eye in annoyance.

Mal gets to his feet, as does Castiel, and he eyes Persephone coolly. So the chansey has some fight in her, does she? That’s fine. It won’t last long. He throws forth a hand and sparks and pops with electric power. Castiel winces at the sight, and even flinches when the electricity builds into a dramatic aura, but the thin beam of light Mal shoots out is almost underwhelming. Still, it gets the job done, and Persephone shudders. Castiel throws a third beam at Static, and though barely good enough for revenge, it’s a little satisfying to see the beam punch a small hole in Static’s fluff.

Static can tell that Castiel can barely take any more. In fact, he’s sure of it. So the next lightning bolt, flashy and dramatic as Mal’s but not quite the brilliance of his previous one, is fuelled by nothing but spite. It would be unfair to say it does no good, though, as Castiel finds himself unexpectedly stiff and unable to move.

Orange, fire-like energy leaps and swirls around Persephone once more, and she leaps at Mal a second time. From the ground, at Persephone’s feet, Mal curses. But when he looks up and meets her eyes, he can tell she can’t stand much more before unconsciousness.

Mal gets to his feet, dusting himself off, and turns his eyes on the mareep. And then… Static’s turn.

Did Static's sp. def. boost disappear with its charge?

Persephone, sing! Sing for your life! Sing until one of your opponents is asleep and follow with a dream eater. If both are asleep, target Mal. Try hiding behind Static if possible. If a thunder hits you, endure as soon as possible.

... Well, sing's supposed to be targeted, so I'm not sure who Persephone's supposed to be singing at. But either way, Castiel, let loose a nice Uproar, and aim that at Persephone if you can. On the third action, if you hit Persephone succesfully twice, she should be knocked out, so hit Static; or hit Persephone if she's still there. If you're too paralyzed to uproar, chill and move the uproar to the next action; if you're asleep, sleep talk.

Mal, if Castiel's asleep, or if he's too paralyzed to do it himself, Uproar for an action and aim it at Persephone, or Static if Persephone's gone; otherwise, set up a Light Screen and Hyper Beam Static twice.

There are many paths through the Dream World, but they all end at the same location: the Tree of Dreams, an incredibly ancient plant whose boughs are draped with the dreams of pokémon from all around the world.

Round Three

Mal stands with his arms crossed, glaring at Static, but the mareep gives him little attention and instead calls upon the sky. Yet another bolt of lightning streaks through the air and strikes Castiel head-on, sending the togetic into convulsions, and Mal’s mouth twitches. A blast of heat and a sound like an explosion assault his back and his ears, but he knows Static will get his due soon. Just needs a little planning, and getting rid of that chansey for a bit.

Persephone finds her arms and legs even stiffer than before, unable to bring her to the protection promised by putting a ball of wool between herself and her opponents, but she can still breathe just fine, mostly. But when she opens her mouth to sing, the tune is weak and just slightly off, and the hitches in her breath ruin the effect. Still, she valiantly tries continuing to soothe her opponents to sleep. Mal just looks on in disinterest, and her song is abruptly interrupted by another voice. Castiel yells and screams at the top his lungs, and Mal, so close to him, cringes. But it’s Static who takes the brunt of the attack, the sound waves focused enough to hurt. Mal nods at this and flattens a hand against an invisible wall. He focuses, and suddenly the wall stops being either invisible or imaginary; a brilliantly glowing wall shimmers into existence, then expands into a bubble around him. In a moment, another dome encircles Castiel, promising protection from anything that might strike.

Including the next bolt of lightning that zigzags down from the clouds. Though the majority of the bolt pierces the dome, a shower of sparks fly off where it strikes and dissipates into the air. Not that Castiel can tell much of a difference through the pain.

Persephone clears her throat and tries again. This time, her vocal cords respond perfectly, and the wordless tune comes out high and sweet. It seems to wrap Mal in warmth and joy, and even Castiel feels calm, but Mal shakes his head before the drowsiness can take hold. He glances at Castiel, who doesn't manage the same thing, and instead nods off. Instead, Mal picks up the slack and leaps and shouts with his own louder, deeper voice, jerking Castiel from the pull of sleep. Castiel blinks awake, heart thumping, but he finds he still can hardly move. His muscles are stiff and won't respond, and his breaths are too ragged and shallow to weaponise his own voice. Instead, he does his best to relax in his position. In his excitement, Mal forgets to aim the brunt of the attack at Persephone, and instead Static suffers the blow.

Oh, but this time, it’s Static’s turn for revenge. He grins and turns to Mal. Castiel’s shouts hurt more, of course, the sound waves more focused even though they weren’t quite as loud, but right now, it’s Mal he wants to hurt. But his mareep-y grin slides off his face when he realises he doesn’t know what he’s supposed to do. Nature power? He’s heard of it, he thinks, but he doesn’t know what it is or how to do it.

Persephone sighs and decides that perhaps Mal is just unusually resilient, or that her luck would be better if she tried a fresher target. She once again sings a wordless lullaby, this time soothing Castiel and drawing him into sleep. And, once again, it works. Castiel’s eyelids flutter shut, and he relaxes and curls up on the grass.

… only to be rudely interrupted (again!) by an explosive cacophony right in front of him. Mal shouts and howls and yells, this time going for Static again, almost as eager to see Static fall as he is to just scream. Castiel jerks awake, wide-eyed, but determines the situation in a second. Then he grins and stands and joins Mal’s shouts, both of them just screaming at Static. The words are incoherent under the sheer volume of their combined voices. Static groans, barely able to focus. Even when their voices fade, he hears the echoes bouncing around his skull, and a dull pressure down the middle of his skull does its best to cleave his brain in two.

Right, Mal, get rid of that mareep with a quick Swift. If there's protect/detect action going on, Thunder Persephone instead and swift after. Only thunder Persephone once; if she's still there, hit her with swift. If they're both protect/detecting, Chill.

Castiel, Hyper Beam Persephone whenever Mal is focusing on Static, and Swift Static whenever Mal is focusing on Persephone. If both of them are protecting/detecting, might as well Chill. Or if one of your targets already fainted, hit the other, of course.

AAG says sing targets multiple, so it shouldn't need a target, right?

Edit: Would any of the following work?
giga impact + rock slide
giga impact + body slam
rock climb + body slam
giga impact + rock climb
rock climb + body slam
rock climb + gravity (use gravity while falling to increase damage and velocity)
body slam + gravity
teleport + body slam + gravity (along the same lines as rock climb)
giga impact + ice punch
rock climb + ice punch
body slam + ice punch
giga impact + take down
take down + ice punch

Sing is single-target in the games (though apparently nowhere else). Unless it's an intentional change, the AAG is in error. Alright, edited. Since it missed Mal third action, though, it ultimately didn't affect anything.

Combos, until Negrek's disapproval:

Yes: giga impact + body slam, rock climb + body slam, giga impact + take down

No: giga impact + rock slide, giga impact + rock climb, anything with gravity/teleport ... and rushing moves + ice punch on something with arms as small as a chansey is less likely than most

Any of the gravity combinations can be done with teamwork, but not by a single pokémon.

In that case, let's see if we can manage a KO. Static, attempt power gem or discharge or wild charge on the second action depending on which one you think can be used in a manner that most looks like protect. However, if you're going to use discharge, wait for Persephone to attack first. Do that move in such a way that your opponents might think you're using protect. If you're still standing on the third, protect. Hit Castiel, but if he's knocked out, hit Mal.

Round Four

The giant wool clump that is Static glows blue from within, but, not seeing the shield itself, Mal points his palm at the mareep anyway. His hand glows, and little stars of light shoot out of his palm at Static. Static grits his teeth within the cloud as the stars hit, each one stinging fiercely, but he wills himself to hang on, to keep standing just one last time. He just needs to hold on a little bit longer, and, to Mal’s annoyance, he does, staving off unconsciousness through sheer willpower. It’s not as hard as it might have been, had that attack been stronger, but it’s an effort all the same.

Castiel concentrates on a point by the tip of his nose and pushes energy into it. An orange ball, not an unfamiliar sight, grows and expands larger than his head, then ruptures. A beam of concentrated light shoots out and slams into Persephone. She stumbles and nearly falls, but with a shuddering breath, changes direction and charges forward instead. Energy like angry orange flames wreath and rage around her, but just as Castiel braces himself for an attack from the front, she instead leaps as high as she can and lets gravity and momentum drive all her bulk into his body. Castiel holds back a yell, but he’s nearly crushed under the force. Persephone pushes herself off him, breathing hard. Castiel groans, and he, too, struggles to his feet, half-scrambling away from her.

Persephone stares. Water trails down her face – perhaps rain, but there’s no mistaking her frustrated expression. After all that, giving everything she’s got, Castiel’s still standing? But he’s barely holding on, at least, and perhaps there’s still hope, because she’s at least brought him down this far. Her state of mixed triumph and disappointment doesn’t last long, though; lightning roars down from the sky and smites her like an angry god—or perhaps just a furious electabuzz.

Static cries out, but is powerless to help, and his companion sways and falls onto the grass. For another second, he hesitates. If he’s not quick, he’ll be next, but he’s got a choice of three moves and no guidance except to use the one that looks most like protect, when none of them do. Really, he’s not sure if any move looks like protect does. He shakes his head. Well, he knows what protect definitely does not look like; electricity is pretty distinctive, and both opponents are probably familiar with it by now. Instead, he draws on a less familiar energy. He raises his tail above the wool, and it glitters and shines like the sun is sending a beam right through it. He turns slightly to move his own body out of the way then looses a sparkling beam at Castiel. Though the wall of light steals some of its lustre, the beam strikes Castiel hard, and he stumbles back and falls. Mal makes a quick check on Castiel’s state, and finds that his friend and ally doesn’t even twitch.

Mal furiously rounds on Static, but when he sees Static’s state—shaking as though his legs can barely support him, fearfully peering out of the wool that has failed to protect him thus far—a slow smirk spreads across his face. Well.

The two fainted pokémon dissolve into red light and are sucked back into their poké balls, and the two electric-types stare at each other, both acutely aware that the battle is going to be ending very, very soon.
