Light Screen, then Superpower and Facade. If she tries to Avalanche the second or third actions, Reflect, then continue with whatever. Not much else we can do right now. (also, odor sleuth only lasts five actions what D:)

Ughhh I'm actually so tempted to switch Yuki out because after all this hax, I'm not keen on trying my luck with paralysis...

... but we'll have to make do with what we have, yes? Let Snowveil set up that Light Screen while you Telekinesis him. Make sure that, for the entire round, you are close enough to goad Snowveil into attacking, but just float away or stay just out of reach. If you don't think you can do that, just make sure you are far away enough so that he can't hit you with physical attacks - shouldn't be hard, really. If you are paralyzed, do your best to Chill.

Then Natural Gift; since you have a 5% BP rock-type signature move, the result should be a physical 110BP grass-type move, which is perfect for our situation. If you were paralyzed last action, suck up that Superpower and try to use Telekinesis again. Again, if you're feeling too paralyzed to move, go ahead and Chill.

Last action, nail Snowveil with a nice Ice Punch. If Snowveil decided to put up a Reflect anyway, then just Chill. And if by some wtfery Snowveil still is not Telekinesis'd, fix that. Again again, Chill if you're paralyzed.

Arena: Cold Storage

Driftveil City has plenty of attractions: its picturesque lighthouse, its bustling marketplace, and, most important of all to trainers, its official gym. Surely any of those would have made fine sites for a battle and a worthy introduction to Driftveil's culture.

Instead, trainers and spectators find themeselves huddled, shivering, in a glorified walk-in refrigerator.

As it turns out, it's rather expensive to rent out Nimbasa's music hall for a few crazy trainers to have their battles in. And it's even more expensive when you have to pay for repairs after a couple of those trainers smash a hole in the stage and set fire to the orchestra pit. Over budget and facing a suddenly-inflated insurance premium on whatever location it decided to rent, the league found itself too strapped for cash to secure one of Driftveil's more desirable locales.

There was no way they could simply call off the battle, though, so they made do. And, with a bit of effort, they even managed to wrangle a local into teaching their battlers a unique bit of Unovan battle-style, the rotation battle. He's a heartbreaker... His name... Charles...

In a rotation battle, each player sends out three pokémon from the get-go, though only one fights at a time. Up to once per round, at any time, a trainer may choose to "rotate" their pokémon, swapping the one in battle for one of the two in reserve. Now, though the arena manages to avoid the iciest parts of Cold Storage, the floor's a little slick, and the pokémon being rotated in will need to take an action to get its footing. The act of rotating therefore takes a full action, but is otherwise unpenalized. A pokémon that is rendered uncapable of leaving the field under its own power cannot be rotated out.

The frigid conditions of Cold Storage are going to sap a bit of the fun out of this new battle style, though. It's so freezing that all pokémon in battle will lose 5% health and energy at the end of each round, whether or not they're currently in battle. Ice types, of course, love the cold and are immune to this effect--too bad they happen to offend Charles, who can't stand their shameless aping of his aloof and distant attitude. At the end of each round, any ice type actually in battle has a 10% chance (each) of becoming taunted, tormented, confused, or paralyzed as a result of suffering through Charles' intense, furious, and yet carefree stare for the entire round.

For these battles, the first player to post will post all three pokémon that they will be using, as well as which one will start in the active position. The second will then do the same, as well as issuing commands, and the battle will proceed as normal from there.

Round Nine

Even as Yukianesa labours to walk up to her opponent, Snowveil summons a shining wall of light between them. The light shines off the shiny floor and glimmers off the ice and icicles in the room, and some nearby workers pause in their work to glance over at the source. The wall abruptly bends and curls into a spherical shell, and the light dims a little, its power spread over a wider area. Behind her, an identical bubble shimmers around a shivering zangoose.

Yukianesa points her hand at Snowveil, who peers back at her through the shield. But the shield is useless against what’s coming next. Instead of a beam or blast of snow and wind a light screen can block, Yukianesa uses her mind to lift Snowveil into the air. Snowveil squeals and flails her limbs, but there’s nothing to hit, and she just floats in the air, spent. She glares at Yukianesa, since that’s all she can do. Can’t run or jump or hit even a solidified ghost when she can’t move.

But Yukianesa steps closer and closer still, and Snowveil seizes her chance before the froslass can change her mind, pushing against invisible bonds and lunging forward with all her might. But she’s misjudged the distance, and her nose doesn’t even brush against Yukianesa’s arm. Yukianesa takes a step back and extends an arm again. This time, a powerful blast of green light pierces the shield and hits Snowveil in the face.

Here Yukianesa hesitates. It’s easy to tell what she’s thinking. She managed to stay out of Snowveil’s reach last time, but now she’s been ordered to use an ice punch, and that could get her close enough to hit. If she wasn’t scared stiff of me, she’d be able to get out of the way no problem, but she’s paralysed and even slower than the swinub. And with the way Snowveil’s glaring at her, the pig seems to be waiting for her chance. She’s not going to be so easily baited again.

Still, Yukianesa’s hardly got a choice. She curls her fingers into a frost-covered fist and lands a punch on Snowveil’s burn, but she can’t backpedal fast enough with her stiff movements, and Snowveil thrashes against her, focusing more on biting and kicking than her usual tackles. Yukianesa jerks back, but the damage is done.

Ice-types aren’t as good at keeping cool under pressure as a lot of trainers think they are. And after having released her anger like that, after her failures, it’s even harder for Snowveil to put up her usual icy façade. Instead, she growls and glares at Yukianesa—which might have more effect if her eyes were actually visible—and Yukianesa stares back, smiling.

Round Ten

Yukianesa raises her uninjured hand, this time a safer distance away. Her palm glows with a green light that grows brighter and brighter, then shoots out, a lance of energy unhindered by Snowveil’s shield. Snowveil’s limbs aren’t long enough to even try to block, so she’s left flailing in the air at the strike. She snarls, but instead of lunging futilely as before, closes her eyes. Tiny points of light appear around her and swirl around her body, all sorts of different colours, and more and more flicker into existence. The light of the veil reflects off every icy surface. Then her body flares with silver light, and the orbs of the veil rocket forth in a spiralling beam that strikes Yukianesa’s chest.

Then Snowveil jerks and falls, and though she lands on her feet, the slipperiness of the floor nearly makes her fall.

Now that she can finally move, Snowveil turns around and darts off back to her trainer. Yukianesa stares after her a moment, then does the same. Their replacements are a bit slower in getting to their positions, though. Their breaths are slow and shallow, and they barely move even when prompted. The typhlosion is a little quicker in slipping and skidding across the floor on three legs, hindered by both the ice and his attempt to keep a red box close to his heart. The zangoose carefully digs his claws into the floor so he doesn’t slip, and he makes it to Snowveil’s former position a few seconds later, holding a more recognisable moon stone in his jaws.

Either items work differently for Asberian pokémon or these are purely decorative. (And this—conditional swapping and being too slow to attack immediately upon switching in—is not how rotation battles are supposed to go, but Asberians are pretty well known for not following the same rules as everyone else.)

Unlike Khao, who adjusts his stance to something resembling battle-readiness, Slash just turns around again and walks back to where he came, claws clicking against the floor. Or at least, he would if not for a spectator shouting from the sidelines, and instead he lets out a puff of air and rises to his feet, baring his claws.

Khao shakes his head and growls. His mane of fire, reduced to a low ember, now flares to life, even larger than normal. Tongues of flame leap and spit off his fur, but instead of being unleashed, the fire races across his skin. The flames reach the tips of his claws and even blanket his face, only leaving patches around his eyes free. The ice at his feet melts to form puddles, but the floor won’t be any less slippery for it. The flames burn lower and continue to crackle, and the smell of burnt hair wafts from him. If he hopes to stave off the cold of the Cold Storage, even self-immolation wouldn’t be enough, but it’s clearly giving him a confidence boost. Even the small flame in his magmarizer flares in response, and barely visible beneath the flames, he glows a dull red.

Khao rises to his hind legs and roars, then grins down at Slash, and the even the protective dome of energy the zangoose shares with his partner flickers out, leaving him exposed to whatever attack Khao intends to unleash next.

Is Flash Fire from the Magmarizer activated? Since I've updated Khao's signature move, it should activate immediately, but I don't recall whether I updated it before or after this battle.

Gotta bother Negrek again about changing things, I guess. :P

Well, with your buffed Flash Fire, a little Fire Punch ought to take care of Snowveil. So drive a flaming fist into his face and then do whatever you want to celebrate. But if Snowveil is not dead somehow then keep punching him.

Sorry to butt in, but you're not actually supposed to be able to rotate twice in one round:

...how did I miss that. I checked the arena description and everything! In any case, it's hard to be in a worse position. Rollout spam; if he tries to evade, Body Slam. If he Protects, Feint.

Rollout/Body Slam/Feint (x3)

Use Body Slam to pin Slash down. He's not that small, but you're over a foot taller than him and you weigh twice as much, so hopefully that will keep on the ground. After that, shoot some point blank Heat Waves at him.

If Slash manages to use Rollout on the first or second actions, breathe some Flamethrowers at him, then on the last action, trip him with Low Kick to prevent Rollout from getting too powerful. See if you can't trip him from the side, or when he's turning - just try to avoid a head-on collision because that would hurt. If he manages a Rollout on the third, though, don't bother with Low Kick and serve him some nice hot Flamethrower instead.

Round Eleven

Khao roars, and Slash tenses, but Slash can’t stop the typhlosion when he leaps onto the zangoose and sends them both sliding across the floor. Slash is sprawled on the floor, cringing away from the flames burning his fur, but when Khao tries to pin Slash’s limbs underneath Khao’s own, he finds that Slash isn’t going to let that happen without a fight. Slash flails an arm out of Khao’s grasp and slashes with the other, scoring a deep cut beneath Khao’s eye, though he was aiming a bit higher. Khao flinches, and it’s enough. Slash sticks his claws into a notch in the floor and pulls himself out of the way, nearly tripping over himself when he tries to get to his feet.

Khao growls again, but he doesn’t seem too perturbed. More flames lick at the inside of his mouth, and he releases a stream of flames across Slash’s shoulder. Slash hisses. More fur crumbles to dust under the flames, leaving behind a bare, blistered patch of skin.

Slash curls into a ball as best he can and throws himself into a roll, but the slippery floor provides as much traction as it would to any wheel—very little. When Slash tries to turn to smash into Khao, he only manages to slip past, and with a snarl, uncurls to dig his claws into the floor. Khao braces himself, ready, and Slash whips himself around and curls into a ball again. This time, his aim is true, but Khao’s foot lashes out and trips Slash over. Slash’s howl of pain is matched by Khao’s own, and Slash continues sliding, half-uncurled and out of control, into another set of crates.

That didn't work as well as I had hoped, but we're still doing fine. Khao, bring it home with a Heat Wave! Spread it out if necessary in case of clones, or if Slash is trying something sneaky that may make your attack miss. If you see Slash lunging at you with a Quick Attack, pre-empt him with your own Quick Attack + Flare Blitz combo (man they need a fire physical move with better distribution between Fire Punch and Flare Blitz...). And if he Protects, Detects, or Endures, then just Chill.

Second action, do the same thing, except do nothing if he Protects, Detects, or Endures, or if you used a combo last action. If you successfully attacked Slash previously but he is not fainted for whatever reason, then Quick Attack to finish him off.

Last action, use Heat Wave as your default, with the same spread-out conditions. If you successfully attacked Slash previously but he is not fainted for whatever reason, then Quick Attack to finish him off. And again Chill if Slash is Protecting, Detecting, or Enduring.

In which Blazhy is a lazy bum and gives no attack variation whatsoever, pretty much!

And I bet this will end just as well as last time I tried to go for the knockout while attacking first.
