• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

3 vs 3 vs 3 Single
Style: Set
DQ: 1 week
Damage Cap: 35%
Banned Moves: OHKOs, Weather Changing, Direct Healing = 2/Pokemon, Chills = 3/Pokemon

Arena: The Crossroads

Description: A typical crossroad, in the middle of a city at night, during an extreme storm, and during a power outage. The trainers and ref will be carrying a flashlight in order to illuminate the crossroads and their Pokemon. Obviously, Pokemon who have the illuminate ability or have a light source on their body will have that illuminated area without their trainers. At the start of each round, there is a 10% chance that lighting will strike nearby to the battlers and cause each Pokemon flinch.

Other: The weather cannot be changed; it will always stay as a strong storm. All moves and abilities that can be affected by weather will be treated as if the weather were rain.
I'll take this.

Arena: Alto Mare's Canals at night

"Alto Mare is an isolated island between the south-western coast of Johto, near Azalea Town, and the Southeastern part of Hoenn.(Bulbagarden)" In lieu of roads, the island is composed of canals and narrow streets, with bridges and boats being the main form of transportation in the populated areas. At night, the city portion of Alto Mare is lit by lanterns and very limited modern street lamps, leaving the canals aglow. Due to the limited and cramped quarters on land, water, flying, and most Pokemon with the ability to "surf" or swim are suggested for this round.

Other: Only first/second evolutionary stage Pokemon and water/flying/normal types please

A challenge for Hiikaru because having fewer than two slots filled with me vs. Ki battles at one time would be simply criminal.

2 vs. 2 single
Style: Set
DQ: One week
Damage Cap: 40%
Banned Moves: OHKOs, direct healing, Pain Split. All Pokémon are capable of using Snore and Sleep Talk.
Arena: The Tree of Dreams

At the center of a clearing on the Island of Dreams lies the Tree of Dreams, an ancient tree rumoured to grant wishes to those who leave offerings of berries at its roots. The area around the tree is pretty unremarkable; it's covered entirely in grass, but this being the Dream World, Pokémon are able to summon the resources to use any attack of theirs that they please (save for banned moves), and Pokémon that normally need water to move around will have no trouble maneuvering on this terrain.

Before the battle begins, the tree is willing to grant each Pokémon a wish to grow stronger like its friends. Pokémon will, for the duration of the battle, be transformed into any stage of their evolution line that their trainer chooses, and have access to all of that stage's moves and abilities (including dream abilities). For five actions after a Pokémon is first sent out, it will be disguised as any Pokémon in its trainer's active squad, akin to the effects of a more permanent Illusion. There is no way for the opposing Pokémon to see through or remove this illusion; their trainer can only try to guess what species the Pokémon really is from the events of the battle.

Several berry trees are planted around the perimeter of the clearing. A Pokémon can be commanded to spend an action retrieving a berry and laying it at the base of the Tree of Dreams to make another wish that will be granted at the end of that action. This wish will renew the Pokémon's disguise, making it last an additional three actions from the time the wish is granted.

Other: Sendouts, along with the Pokémon to be disguised as and choice of held item from the trainer's inventory (if applicable), will be PMed to the ref before command order is posted. While a Pokémon is in disguise, it will be described as carrying out all of its actions as if it was the Pokémon it's disguised as (even if they don't make sense! This is the Dream World, after all. The Feebas in it are perfectly capable of using Wing Attack and Jump Kick.) and all of the information displayed in its summary (sprite, ability, etc.) will be that of that Pokémon. Attacks that rely on gender will use the actual Pokémon's gender, inherently/consensually hovering/flying status will be that of the actual Pokémon, etc. The ref is requested not to provide any details about individual damage and energy calculations (at least while there is a disguised Pokémon on the field), only the final tallies.

Here is my challenge

Type: 2 on 2 single battle
Style: Set
DQ: 2 weeks
Damage Cap: 40%
Banned Moves: Sllepers and 1-hit-KOs
Arena: Lava Lake

Yeah, call me crazy, butb we will battle on a lake filled with molten hot lava. Only a small land bridge seperates Pokemon from the lava. The trainers stand on each side of the lake while our Pokemon battle it out on the land bridge.

Seeking to take on somebody I haven't fought yet.

2vs2 Singles
Style: Set
DQ: 7 days
Damage Cap: 22% on a single move, 50% on an entire round.
Banned/Restricted moves: Direct recovery, Pain Split, any moves that instantly faint a battler (Explosion, OHKOs, Destiny Bond, Perish Song, etc.). Chills are restricted to 5 per Pokémon.
Arena: High Temple of Enlightenment

Still yourself for a second. Meditate. Afetr that, destroy everything.

This is pretty much the destiny for battlers on the High Temple of Enlightenment. It sits atop a hill in a hihgly urbanized territory (although it's by and at large antique, at least in appearance), and within it, many study quietly or carry out rituals, all towards the goal of ultimate knowledge. The heightened flow of information in magical form affects those who battle in the designated arena that lies in its basement; the tendency is for them to suddenly become more knowledgeable while they fight. However, the ideas gained seem to go away as suddenly as they come, so, it's not considered a reliable form of enlightenment. Not by most of the students, anyhow.

Pokémon are affected by this as any student. As such, at the end of each round, they learn a given move -- any move, up to, including and specially legendary signature moves -- that they don't already know. They can only use it once, however. If a Pokémon has yet to use their learned move at the end of the round, they cannot learn a new one. An action can be spent to forcibly remove a learned move from the mind, and a failed attempt to use the move will not cause it to be forgotten (although it does peter away if the move is used successfully, but fails nonetheless).

It has not come to the awareness of the students yet, but, sleeping in the arena will cause the knowledge to flow in and out at a frantic pace. As such, any Pokémon put to sleep in this arena will not carry out any orders, and instead, will constantly fire off random moves, as though using Metronome over and over.

For purposes of convenience, even if the temple is destroyed -- even if the whole hill and the entire city are destroyed -- the effects of the arena will apply, and likewise if the Pokémon simply leave it (unless they are also leaving battle in the process).

Psychonauts, anyone?

Arena:Lungfishopolis

You know those cheesy kaiju movies? Where a giant monster runs rampant through a city? Well, it's about time for our Pokemon to live up to being called 'monsters'. Lungfishopolis is the mental landscape of a friendly, formerly brainwashed giant mutated lungfish named Linda. She's kindly offered to allow three pokemon trainers to have a battle in her mind. The city itself is on the bank of a comparatively large river and is split in two by a large dam, with a conveniently bouncy blimp placed so that it can be used as a trampoline on and over the dam. The lower river is only about knee deep, but the higher part is deep enough to completely submerge a decent-sized human while standing. Most buildings can be destroyed, but the larger buildings next to the deepest water are sturdy enough to be climbed.

Due to taking place in a city made for lungfish, humans are, well, quite large to say the least. With the power of taking place in a mind, all pokemon have been scaled to around this size as well, from joltik to wailord.

Other:
-Gravity is in effect for the whole battle to better replicate the original level :D (hence the blimp to aid in getting over the dam)
-Don't feel too bad about destroying all those buildings, the city has been evacuated and slated for demolition anyway.

May I take this?
