Lord of the Fireflies vs. Blastoise Fortooate

Fake Out by jumping at him. Grab on and pull him to the ground if you can, don't let go under any circumstances. Once you have him on the ground with you, use Grass Knot to tie the both of you together/to the ground, with him facing upwards. You're a Fighting-type at heart, and a monkey to boot, so you should be able to do all of this! Then use Hidden Power.

If you can't get him on the ground, or if you can't do something else for some reason, Torment and Assist twice.

Arena: The Piece Of Land With A Small Pink House That Hangs Up In The Sky

The name fits alright. The arena looks like a piece of land would look like if a giant had dug it out of the surface of the earth to place it several miles in the air, among the clouds, in total defiance of gravity. The land itself isn't very large, about twenty meters in diameter max, and there's a small pink house on the top-left corner of it. Actually the house isn't exactly pink, it's white with a pink roof and pink door and pink window frames, and there's also a small white closing made of wood and, surprise, an small pond enough to fit in, say... a Wailmer? Let's say a Wailmer and a quarter (a quarter of Wailmer). Apart from that and perhaps the most important thing to note is that there's an Apricorn tree in front of the house, and each other round a fruit will pop out, and the battlers will be able to use up an action to pick it up and eat it. If by the end of two rounds the Apricorn is still there, Kurt the Pokéball Master will arrive riding on a flying Slowpoke and pick it up himself, then leave with his Slowpoke activating the effects of Trick Room for the following round (just because he felt like it). The Apricorn rate and effect are as it follows:

9% Chance Each

- Red Apricorn, raises Attack one stage.
- Yellow Apricorn, raises Defense one stage.
- Blue Apricorn, raises Special Attack one stage.
- Green Apricorn, raises Special Defense one stage.
- Pink Apricorn, raises Speed one stage.
- White Apricorn, raises Accuracy one stage.
- Black Apricorn, raises Critical Hit Ratio one stage.

5% Chance Each

- Ruby Apricorn, raises Attack two stages.
- Topaz Apricorn, raises Defense two stages.
- Sapphire Apricorn, raises Special Attack two stages.
- Emerald Apricorn, raises Special Defense two stages.
- Garnet Apricorn, raises Speed two stages.
- Crystal Apricorn, raises Accuracy two stages.
- Onyx Apricorn, raises Critical Hit Ratio two stages.

2% Chance

- Super Extraordinary Amazing Rainbow Apricorn, the eater can now shoot rainbows from his belly for 6% rainbow-type damage (super-effective against EVERYTHING, meaning that yes Pokémon with two types will take double the damage), at the cost of 8% energy.

Apart from that amazing Apricorn tree, Pokémon may fall from the sky sometimes (We're in a sky, so obviously Pokémon have to fall down from it) a different rates, too, but those I won't tell exactly. Up to the ref. The Pokémon falling from the skies seem to be the same over time, and the apricorn guy made a list of them and the attacks they use while falling down.

I. Caterpie, Weedle and Wurmple will use Tackle.
II. Poliwag will use Wake-Up-Slap.
III. Mantyke will use Bounce (Down).
IV. Whirlipede will use Steamroller.
V. Diglett will use Scratch.
VI. Makuhita will use Arm Thrust.
VII. Dunsparce will use Headbutt (yeah the sucker has Serene Grace annoying isn't it).
VIII. Stunfisk will use Spark.
IX. Lileep will use Ancientpower.
X. Torchic will use Mirror Move.
XI. Magikarp will use Outrage (once then disintegrate).

There is no way to tell how much Pokémon will fly down to the surface of The Piece Of Land With A Small Pink House That Hangs Up In The Sky, nor which ones they will be and which battlers they will affect or even when they will do, but once they do the battlers are free to use them as they wish. They can kick them out of the piece of land and down towards the other pieces of land under (except the Lileep, since it has Suction Cups it will stay where it lands but won't use any attacks), they can use them to hit their opponent in the face, they can use them as fashionable scarves, whatever.

One more thing, the land has infused the battlers with its Gravity-defying powers, so if the battlers were to fell down from it, they would float back up on it. These laws don't take place when on the actual piece of land, because I want ground-type moves to work dammit (even Earthquake, the piece of land is shakable but indestructible).

Finally, there's a railroad in the middle of the piece of land, and at the beginning of each round there's a rough 14.71% chance the train passes and deals 8% steel-typed damage to a random battler because it was randomly sitting on the railroad.

Before the referee waved her flags to signal the beginning of the battle, a disembodied monotone voice declared, “I like trains”. The Pokemon looked about in confusion, trying to determine who had uttered the words, when suddenly a train rushed out of nowhere and slammed into Acrobat, blowing apart his rocky prison in the process. The Gligar screeched in shock, too startled to try to wiggle off the front of the train. He let it carry him off the side of the island, where the train vanished as abruptly as it appeared. Meanwhile the odd gravitational properties of the island saved Acrobat from a deadly drop to the distant ground, and the dazed Gligar floated back onto solid ground, shaking stars out of his head.

While Acrobat recovered from his ordeal, Celeste pulled herself out of the pile of ancient bones, dusting herself off with a grimace. Then, with startling swiftness, the Chimchar rushed at her opponent, who was just recovering from the shock of having a train run into him. Celeste was moving so fast that she was little more than an orange blur. As she approached her opponent she showed no signs of slowing down; quite eager to avoid having objects plowing into him at high speeds, Acrobat gave a screech and scrambled backwards. He was too slow, though, and he felt arms wrap tightly around his torso. Now utterly confused and bewildered, the Gligar simply fell onto his back while Celeste pinned him down, chattering angrily.

Acrobat lay there for a moment, trying to make sense of things. When at last he regained his bearings, he growled threateningly at Celeste and heaved upwards. Acrobat was much larger and heavier than his opponent, and despite her best efforts Celeste was flung onto the ground. From there, it was easy for Acrobat to send a pulse of energy through the earth, causing the ground at Celeste’s feet to explode, tossing her into the air and pelting her with dirt and pebbles.

Celeste landed with a painful thump. Grumbling she stood up. If her own techniques wouldn’t help her win the battle, then she would borrow some of her teammates’ techniques. A certain sentient boulder appeared in her mind and Celeste found herself reaching for a rock blasted out of the ground by the Earth Power. With a grunt of effort she threw the rock as hard as she could, but it did little more than bounce off of Acrobat’s tough skin.

Cackling at the pitiful attack, Acrobat tilted his head back and let out a peculiar reedy roar, at the same time sending another pulse of energy into the ground. This caused it to heave upwards violently at Celeste’s feet. Again she found herself airborne, buffeted by ground-type energy and debris that came flying from the earth. The Chimchar groaned in pain, her ability to withstand repeated super-effective attacks clearly waning. As if in response to her plight, a blazing red aura leaked from her skin, lending her an aura of fury and power. Celeste felt the invigorating heat enhance her fiery abilities, and as she landed none too gracefully, she prepared herself for one last stand.

Again Celeste thought of her teammates, hoping that they would lend her their strength or at least a move appropriate for slaying Gligar. This time, she thought of a blue turtle and she grinned. Surely the water-type Pokemon would know something to deal ground-types a serious dashing of pain. Well, if he did, he wasn’t about to share it. Instead Celeste found herself lurching forward, arms stretched in front of her. With powerful hands she gripped Acrobat firmly and managed to lift the heavy glider into the air, tossing him a few metres away. Acrobat was surprised by the sudden show of strength, but he wasn’t badly hurt.

As expected, another Pokemon dropped out of the sky after the battlers had finished with their current commands. This time, the visitor was a pudgy yellow fighter. Acrobat smirked, certain that the Makuhita would go for Celeste as the previous Pokemon had, but instead it approached the Gligar, fists clenched. Acrobat hissed, crossing his claws in front of him to ward off attack, but the Makuhita simply gave him two relatively light punches and stepped back. Hardly feeling worse for wear, Acrobat uncrossed his claws and shrugged.

A Stunfisk is slowly making its way towards the pool. A Lileep has planted itself to the ground and stubbornly refuses to move. A Makuhita is sitting on the edge of the island, watching the battle with mild interest.
There is a sizeable pile of rocks roughly in the middle of the island, still covered with damp soil.
The rain will last 3 more actions (1 more round).

Final notes
Blastoise attacks first next round.
Before the round started, a train hit Acrobat. The sudden impact also dispelled Stealth Rock.
Gligar are more than twice as tall as Chimchar and many times heavier. It’d be difficult for Celeste to stay on Acrobat, and she was shaken off pretty much right away.
Assist called Rock Throw and Strength.
I used a Metronome generator for Assist, and the second move generated was Magma Storm. Blastoise go make a Metronome battle now.
A Makuhita fell out of the sky and used Arm Thrust on Acrobat. It hit twice.

As Celeste leaned over and clutched at the worst of her bruises, Acrobat launched into an elaborate, primal dance. Clacking his claws madly, the Gligar spun in circles and skittered to and fro, all the while beating out a frantic rhythm with his tail. A rush of adrenaline pumped through his body as he prepared himself for what would likely be the final, decisive strike.

Celeste would not bow out without a fight, though. While Acrobat danced, she had harnessed the raw fire-type energy pouring out of her being and used it to charge a particularly mighty attack. Her body temperature shot up, up, and up, until the air around her twisted with heat and raindrops turned to steam before hitting her skin. Acrobat’s perpetual grin melted away as he realized the danger he was in, but fear kept him rooted to the spot. With a sharp cry, Celeste released the pent-up heat in an all-consuming wave. Grass was flattened and burned and all water near the burning monkey evaporated with a great hiss. Acrobat felt like the poor grass, blown back by the sheer force of the attack while unbearable heat assaulted him. Even the rain could offer little comfort as most of the droplets evaporated before they could soothe his skin, which began to peel and blister. Acrobat lay on the ground and writhed in pain, waiting for the heat to die down enough so that the rain could reach him and cool him off.

Celeste had shocked Acrobat with her potent attack, but it would be her last. She was panting with exertion, the Overheat having taken a lot out of her. Acrobat resolved to take the last of her strength. Struggling painfully to his feet, the Gligar raised both claws above his head and powerfully swung them down, causing the island to shake violently in protest. Unable to keep her footing, Celeste fell to the ground, where she was at the mercy of the Earthquake. She held on as best as she could, but a particularly violent knock to the head eventually rendered her unconscious.

All of a sudden, there was a whistling sound. Squinting against the rain, the trainers saw a rapidly-approaching pink speck in the sky. Kurt and his trusty flying Slowpoke were speeding towards the island, no doubt to snatch the yellow Apricorn dangling temptingly from the branch of the Apricorn tree. With a whoosh Kurt’s Slowpoke dove towards the tree, creating a gale that set the branches rattling. Carefully, Kurt reached out to pick the Apricorn, while his Slowpoke weaved a complicated bubble of Psychic energy. Just as Kurt had safely stowed the Apricorn in a pouch, his Slowpoke released its hold on the bubble, which rapidly expanded to surround the entire island. Acrobat, who had always been rather nimble, suddenly felt rather sluggish, and he frowned slightly at the new development.

His task finished, Kurt sped off into the distance, leaving a bare Apricorn tree and a time-distorting bubble in his wake. As if to taunt him, as soon as he disappeared from sight, one of the tree’s flowers produced another fruit, this one blue instead of yellow.

Blastoise held out Celeste’s Pokeball and recalled her, but even so, Acrobat stood alert, expecting the sky to fart out a Pokemon like it had done in the past three rounds. When half a minute passed and nothing fell out of the sky, Acrobat relaxed and examined his burns. Grimacing, he lowered himself in the cool mud and began to roll around.

I myself am quite familiar with the Reffing Duldrums! It is a terrible condition, I sympathize.

graaaagh I hate Trick Room! Buuuut I sure do love type advantages + STAB + Expert Belt + doubled base power + Rain Dance, so I'll be using Blaise. I want you sent out into that pool over there, little man, so try and float just below the water's surface when you can, stay away from ground.
Pop out with magic speedhax and use Water Spout all up in him, it should STAB him to death. Also, there appears to be no damage cap, so. Just keep Brining after that and you'll be fine. If something goes weird and you can't hit him with Brine or Water Spout, use Ice Beam if you can aim at him or just Iron Defense if you can't find him.

Actually, LotF forgot to set the damage cap but later set it at 40% when he realized he forgot. Which... shouldn't impact your commands, but I thought you should know (and I should edit it hurr).

OK, tricky tricky.

Well, let's try this. Quick Attack under the floating island. To avoid floating back up, try and attach yourself to roots, rocks whatever - because while you're under there, Water Spout can't hurt you. Now if you succeed, Baton Pass away to Harlequin.

If the plan would fail, you are in some kind of shit. Hope you survive and U-Turn away (to Harlequin)!

Whatever happens, you've done great! Happy evolution, my friend.

Blastoise quickly decided on his next battler and threw a Pokeball into the air. The light that burst out of the sphere condensed into a bipedal turtle shape. Blaise the Wartortle quickly tied a length of black cloth around his arm, then sized up his opponent with a wide grin. Acrobat stopped rolling around for a moment to stare back. His face betrayed the slightest flicker of alarm as he realized he was up against a water-type. No, the odds were not in his favour… The Gligar’s body tensed as he prepared to sprint for his life.

As soon as the referee waved her flags, Acrobat shot off, appearing as no more than a streak of purple. He rushed towards the edge and threw himself off the island, wings already angled for a steep dive. There was no escaping the island’s peculiar gravity, though, and before Acrobat could cling onto some roots he was thrown back onto the grass. He tried again with no more success than the first time.

By now, Blaise had caught up with Acrobat. With a nasty smirk, Blaise tilted his head back and squeezed his water sac. A mindboggling amount of water shot high into the air in a thick, high-pressure jet. Acrobat hid his head under his pincers. That was no defense against the Water Spout, though, and when the water rained back down, he felt each droplet acutely. They struck him with incredible force, feeling less like liquid than sharp icy rocks that pierced his skin again and again. Despite himself, Acrobat cried out; the pain was almost more than he could bear, and when the deadly downpour let up he was hovering on the brink of unconsciousness.

So battered was Acrobat that he did not notice the rain letting up. It had lightened to a drizzle, but now it stopped entirely. That was little consolation, though, and he could not even move as Blaise leaned over him to deal the final blow. The Wartortle spat a mouthful of salty water at his prone victim. The salty droplets stung horribly, but it only took a few to cause Acrobat to black out from pain. Blaise turned towards his trainer and grinned victoriously while the soaked Acrobat was returned to his Pokeball.

Blaise was too busy puffing up his chest and strutting about to notice a writhing green bug fall out of the sky. The Caterpie landed on his head, and with a startled screech Blaise shook it off. Disoriented, the Caterpie lay on the ground for a moment before righting itself and lunging at Blaise. Then it scurried away as fast as its tiny legs would allow. The impact barely hurt, but Blaise sat on the grass, shocked by the randomness of it all.

Acrobat wouldn’t know if the Quick Attack thing would work or not, so he decided to try it. However, as soon as he threw himself off the edge, the island’s gravity pulled him back, so he didn’t have time to cling to rocks or roots or anything.
Acrobat fainted on the second action.

Drat.

Harlequin, get out there.

- sup?

Begin with a Telekinesis. Default to Substitute (10%) if they Protect/Detect, or try to status you, and to Psychic if they use Substitute (try to hit them with the sub, if possible).

On the second action, if they are under the effect of telekinesis, use Zap Cannon. If they would Mirror Coat, Protect / Detect or status you on that action, and you don't already have a Substitute, create one (10%). If they would use those and you already have a Substitute, use Calm Mind, unless it's a status attack, in which case, Zap Cannon anyways.

Finally, use Yawn. If they have a Substitute, Zap Cannon it away. If they Protect / Detect, Calm Mind.

Telekinesis / Substitute / Psychic ~ Zap Cannon / Substitute / Calm Mind ~ Yawn / Zap Cannon / Calm Mind

Begin with a nice, terrifying Fake Out. This should disrupt Telekinesis quite nicely. On the next action, it appears that Harlequin technically doesn't have any order telling him what to do when you attack and aren't under Telekinesis, so go ahead and use Bite with impunity. End with a nice easy Rock Tomb to hopefully block that nasty Yawning. If you move second for some reason, use Yawn instead.

Fake Out ~ Bite ~ Rock Tomb

3 vs. 3 singles
Style: Set
Damage Cap: 40%
Move Restrictions: All moves that would instantly faint a battler, Attract, Evasion, Direct Healings limited to 1 /pokémon, Chills limited to 3 /pokémon, Pain Split and Endeavor can only be used if the target is the first opponent the user encounters. Finally, all Pokémon have access to the moves Snore and Sleep Talk.

This time, it was Quidam’s turn to replace his fallen battler. He kicked the ground out of frustration, then threw a Pokeball that contained another Water-type: a Slowpoke. Harlequin yawned loudly and regarded his opponent through half-lidded eyes. A Wartortle… surely a turtle-like Pokemon would be slow and lethargic, right? Did that mean he could take a nap?

A loud “ahem” from Quidam told Harlequin that now was not the time for a nap. Reluctantly, Harlequin raised his head and grinned dopily at Blaise. He wasn’t sure if the grin was friendly or challenging.

Round Six

Slowpoke @King’s Rock
Harlequin (M) <Own Tempo>
Health: 100%
Energy: 100%
Status: “… c:”
Commands: Telekinesis/Substitute/Psychic ~ Zap Cannon/Substitute/Calm Mind ~ Yawn/Zap Cannon/Calm Mind

Blastoise Fortooate (xOO)

Wartortle @Expert Belt
Blaise (M) <Torrent>
Health: 96%
Energy: 84%
Status: Somewhat wary.
Commands: Fake Out ~ Bite ~ Rock Tomb/Yawn

Even though Harlequin felt unusually quick under the influence of Trick Room, Blaise still moved first. Shaking off his temporary sluggishness, he put on an amazing burst of speed that seemed impossible for a turtle-like Pokemon. Harlequin gave a grunt of surprise and hid his head under his forelimbs, bracing for the terrific impact, but it never came. Instead, Blaise slowed down right before he collided with his opponent, and turning around, gave him a light thwack with his tail. Harlequin gave another grunt and cautiously lifted his head. What just happened? He tilted his head, too confused by the recent developments to act.

His commands didn’t help, either. Well, if Blaise wasn’t flailing helplessly in the grip of a psychic snare, he could only wait for his opponent to act. Thrilled that Harlequin still wasn’t acting, Blaise dashed forward to sink his small fangs into the Slowpoke’s shoulder. Harlequin winced as his skin was pierced and dark energy sizzled at his flesh.

As soon as Blaise stepped back, Harlequin brightened up, despite the pain in his shoulder. Finally, there was a command he could follow and appreciate. He fixed Blaise with a lazy stare, and when he was sure he had the Wartortle’s attention, let loose with a gigantic yawn. At first, Blaise was taken aback, but then his eyelids drooped and he was overtaken with the urge to yawn, too.

So he did just that. Blaise returned Harlequin’s sleepy gaze and yawned right back. This time, it was Harlequin’s turn to be startled. All of a sudden it was much harder to ignore his natural laziness. Giving into the allure to sleep would be so easy… A nudge from Quidam’s foot made Harlequin’s eyes snap open again, but from the way he kept nodding, it was clear that the Slowpoke would not stay awake for long.

Suddenly, Blastoise yelled and pointed into the distance where a pink speck was just visible. It was their old friend Kurt, here to steal their Apricorns again (and to mess with the battlers’ time perception while he was at it, of course). As Kurt’s Slowpoke landed on the tree, Harlequin gave a half-hearted wave that was ignored. While Harlequin pouted, Kurt snatched the blue Apricorn from the branch and his Slowpoke carefully weaved a bubble of psychic energy. Then it hit it with its tail, shattering it, and causing the bubble that already surrounded the island to shatter too. Their work done, the duo sped off. This time, the Apricorn that grew in the pilfered one’s place was a shiny black.

This time, it was the referee who spotted the pink dot, though it came from above instead. This turned out to be a Wurmple, wriggling madly in fear. It hit the ground right next to Harlequin with a squeak, then rammed into him with all its power (not much) and scuttled fearfully away. Harlequin merely gave a confused grunt as he was hit. This place was… odd, to say the least.

Health: 96%
Energy: 72%
Status: Confident but drowsy. To fall asleep in one action.

Terrain notes
A Stunfisk is slowly making its way towards the pool. A Lileep has planted itself to the ground and stubbornly refuses to move. A Makuhita is sitting on the edge of the island, watching the battle with mild interest. A Caterpie is scurrying towards the tree. A Wurmple is scuttling off towards the tree as well.
The tree has a black Apricorn on it.
Trick Room is no longer in effect.
There is a sizeable pile of rocks roughly in the middle of the island, still covered with damp soil.
The rain has ended.

Final notes
Due to Trick Room being cancelled out, Quidam attacks first next round.
Harlequin flinched on the first action.
Harlequin did nothing on the second action due to having no applicable commands.
At the end of the round, a Wurmple fell out of the sky and Tackled Harlequin.

OK, obvious move is obvious, begin with Safeguard. Blaise should use Refresh, and doesn't have any move to disrupt you before you do, so we should be all good. After that, simple, Dream Eater on HP if he's asleep, Calm Mind then Psychic (If he has a sub, it him with it, otherwise mental intrusion) if he's not, Sleep Talk if you are asleep.

Safeguard ~ Dream Eater / Calm Mind / Sleep Talk ~ Dream Eater / Psychic / Sleep Talk

Get reaaaallly close to Harlequin. Like uncomfortable-close. Wait until the little hippo starts focusing on Safeguard and then Mud-Slap him right in the eyes; don't be afraid to really grind it in there. This should keep him from Safeguarding effectively. Then Snore. If you can't Mud-Slap, then Scald in the same way. If you can't Snore, then Sleep Talk if asleep or Bite if awake somehow.

Mud-Slap/Scald ~ Snore/Sleep Talk/Bite ~ Snore/Sleep Talk/Bite

2015 Zhorken edit: Acrobat and Blaise both get 2 exp; Celeste and Harlequin get 1; Acrobat and Harlequin get to evolve; $8 for each battler, $5 for the ref
