yeah,thanks K-Dawg(sorryi'llneversaythatagain)

anyway, I'll go with Max.First, use Confuse Ray. then, use Flamethrower. Finish off with Fire blast or if Flamethrower missed, use it again.

Confuse Ray~Flamethrower~Fire Blast/Flamethrower

Re: Prairie Chicken vs. uber charizard

Don't even look at Max. You won't need to for a while. Instead, focus entirely on Teeter Dancing, with lots of twirls and spinning--you're going to be whipping up a Sandstorm around you at the same time. The "deflecting projectiles" kind. If you can't do the attacks together, do them separately, but do so knowing I'm very disappointed in you. >=(

If you still get hit with the Flamethrower after that, Protect against the third attack. If you didn't get hit, Spite that Flamethrower.

Teeter Dance + Sandstorm (surrounding Cupcake)/Teeter Dance, then Sandstorm (surrounding Cupcake) ~ Protect/Spite

Arena: Western Shootout

Wide open, dusty plains. The earth is parched, cracked, and devoid of any vegetation. The only available cover is behind large rocks, of which there are several.

Round One: Begin

High noon reaches the wild western plains, raising the temperature of the already baked earth to uncomfortably high levels. As the lone Cacnea and Vulpix stare one another down from a distance of twenty paces, however, they pay the heat and the glaring sunlight no attention whatsoever. Max and Cupcake only have eyes for one another... and the painful holes of various sizes they'll soon be shooting through their foe's bodies.

The Vulpix's eyes glow a bright white as he tries to stare his opponent down, a wave of brilliant color stretching out from his pupils and reaching across the dusty wastes toward Cupcake. All the colors of the rainbow flash and dance through the air, creating a dazzling lightshow certain to entrance and amaze... if only Cupcake could see it. The Cacnea's eyes are shut tight and his attention is somewhere else entirely, and Max's confuse ray goes entirely unnoticed.

No, Cupcake is much more concerned with doing a little amazing and entrancing of his own to be bothered with pretty lights. Back and forth he hops on his tiny legs, wobbling in a small, unsteady circle and windmilling his arms wildly. Max stops and stares, puzzled--what on earth is he doing? Watching the cactus Pokémon's tipsy dance is making him a little dizzy.

Before long, however, the dust and grit kicked up by Cupcake's awkward thrashing hides most of the dance from view. More and more sand flies up into the air, now whirling in a tight funnel around the Cacnea that all but completely obscures him. Cupcake, eyes still closed and mind still focused on his mad shaking and prancing, is blissfully unaware of the sandstorm blocking Max's view. All he knows is that he's feeling fine and ready to do some serious shootin'.

It is Max who takes the first shot, however. His eyes are slightly crossed and he still can't pinpoint Cupcake's exact location through the swirling dust, but that doesn't stop him from trying. A long stream of flames shoots from the fire fox's open jaws, hissing toward the sand funnel and hitting it straight on. The rapidly rotating air and dirt quickly scatter the flames, however, leaving the cavorting Cacnea within them unscathed.

Wait... did that flamethrower hit its mark or not? In his dizzy, addled state, poor Max really can't tell. It certainly doesn't sound like Cupcake is screaming in agony as flames consume his body... better try again just to be sure. A second flamethrower bursts from his mouth, only to be extinguished once again by Cupcake's sandstorm. Cupcake, while enjoying the excellent protection the wall of sand is giving him, is having some difficulty maintaining enough whirling and energy investment to keep it going for much longer. Rather than exhaust himself too early he stops, lets his arms rest at his sides and summons a bit of purplish, ghostly energy from the yellow flower atop his head. As the dust devil winds down and begins to settle the puff of darkness slithers through the air, snaking over rocks and rattling tumbleweeds until it reaches Max's pointed ears. Then it slips inside and works its way into his thoughts, finally settling around the sequence of actions required to perform a proper flamethrower.

Max shakes his head wildly, trying to rid it of the sudden sensation of... of... he can't really describe it, but whatever it is it's making it incredibly difficult to think about any more flamethrowers. Even when the last of the dust settles and he sees Cupcake sitting still and glaring at him it doesn't make him feel any better; sure, having a motionless target in plain sight makes aiming and focusing easier, but... Cupcake did something, dammit, and that something is making him feel quite flustered. Cupcake pays no heed to his opponent's trepidation. He just wants to start shooting at stuff, really.

-Cupcake was able to perform both moves at the same time, but the resultant flying sand made seeing him too difficult for the teeter dance to really take effect--hence Max's very mild confusion that faded at the end of the round.
-Sandstorm was able to deflect both flamethrowers.

Round Two: Begin

Max's senses have returned to him, sure, but he still doesn't understand whatever nefarious thing it is that Cupcake just did to him. Surely just using flamethrower again would restore his confidence… right? He isn't so sure at this point. It doesn't matter anyway, though. His trainer has asked him to use a different attack, one that thankfully isn't giving him the sameheebie-jeebie vibe flamethrower currently is, and he's happy to oblige. The Vulpix's curly tails begin to wave back and forth, as if fanning a breeze in Cupcake's general direction. The wind that picks up and whistles across the wastes is more than just a gentle breeze, however--within seconds theCacnea finds himself buffeted by sporadic but mighty gusts. The wind sets up a terrifying wail as it races toward Cupcake, amorphous, ghostly specters rising up from the ground to travel along with it and aim the occasional strike at the grass-type now struggling to remain standing in the gale.

The ominous wind dies down after a minute, allowing the dust and weeds to settle and leaving a satisfied Max and a slightly battered Cupcake in its wake. Cupcake stares around him in disbelief, wondering where all of the strange apparitions came from and where they've gone off to; he'd like to give them a little pew-pew-pew action, too, the jerks. For now he settles for resurrecting his sandstorm, this time allowing the wind to carry the sand and grit all over the place instead of restricting it to the tight, difficult-to-maintain circle. Max snorts and coughs as dust gets into his nose and throat, then squints through the flying dirt at his adversary. At least his wind didn't kick stuff into his eyes.

Running around in the sandstorm does little to keep the dry soil from scratching Max's body and making him uncomfortable, but he does his best to dash in a tight circle anyway. Cupcake can see what looks like three moreVulpix appearing behind him, each one identical to the original Max… except, that is, for the way that the whirling sand and debris seems to pass right through them unimpeded. The three extra foxes seem to be completely immaterial, flickering fitfully as they come to a halt.

It is a simple task to pick the real Max out of the pack, then: he's the only one that actually looks solid and uncomfortable as the sandstorm scratches him instead of blows through him. Cupcake's arms begin to glow white as he holds them out level in front of him. The aura shifts to a soft, golden hue after a few seconds, then reaches out across the plains in a beam of yellowish light. Not only does it hit the genuine article, it manages to catch him right in his wide, disbelieving eyes--how on earth did Cupcake find him so quickly?--knocking Max over and leaving him all but blinded for several seconds.

Tears of pain well up in Max's stinging eyes. His entire face hurts after that secret power, but now he's back to having trouble pinpointing theCacnea's location. He can sort of make out a small, greenish shape where Cupcake is supposed to be, but… is it Cupcake? Is Cupcake even facing him? He squints over in the green shape's direction, frowns, mutters something that gets lost in the howling wind and then tries his confuse ray again. Another multicolored beam, this one a bit narrower than the last, spans the gap betweenVulpix and Cacnea … and this time, Cupcake finds that he can't ignore it. Perhaps it was a mistake to keep his eyes open and enjoy watching Max squirm, because now… now… well, now he can't remember why it was a bad idea. Wait… something was a bad idea? Cupcake certainly hopes it wasn't secret power, because he thinks that's what he's supposed to be doing next. Probably. Maybe. And if not, oh well!

More golden energy hits Max head-on, although this time the Vulpix has the sense to turn his head and shut his own eyes. Cupcake is still standing there when he looks back again; Max is now thoroughly fed up with the stupid cactus and its stupid secret powers, although he is able to draw some comfort from the fact that Cupcake is suddenly and inexplicably distracted by what looks like a tumbleweed buffeted between them by the storm. He sits down amidst his now-useless clones and waits for everything to come back into clearer focus.

Re: Prairie Chicken vs. uber charizard

Okay, let's do this. I want you to use Toxic. Then use Heat Wave. If Toxic hits the first time, use Heat Wave. If it doesn't, use Hypnosis.

Re: Prairie Chicken vs. uber charizard

...is that Toxic ~ Heat Wave ~ Heat Wave/Hypnosis or something else? I can't really tell.

Well, this is either going to go reasonably well or, uh, not.

Keep way back and Flash. Hopefully Max's eyes and the winds from the sandstorm will deflect Toxic and you can pull this off unharmed.

After that, follow the magic tumblyweed take cover behind a rock. If you're poisoned, Spite that Heat Wave. If you aren't, and you got Flash off, Poison Sting as hard as you can along the ground towards a distant rock to try and simulate the sound of you running over there. Max may depend on his ears where his eyes fail him, so this could make him aim elsewhere. If you aren't poisoned and Flash didn't go off, Protect.

Finally, if you're poisoned, stay put and Protect. If you're not, and the rock trick worked, Giga Drain energy from Max while he's not looking your way. If you're not poisoned and the rock trick failed/you Protected/you were too confused to do anything last action, don't look at Max and just Grasswhistle.

Flash ~ Spite/Poison Sting (at a distant rock)/Protect ~ Protect/Giga Drain (energy)/Grasswhistle.

Arena: Western Shootout

Wide open, dusty plains. The earth is parched, cracked, and devoid of any vegetation. The only available cover is behind large rocks, of which there are several.

Round Three: Begin

Max blinks furiously for a good thirty seconds, trying his hardest to restore his vision to something resembling acceptable. His eyes are still watering when he stops blinking at last, but some of the pain has subsided and he's pretty sure he can see Cupcake wobbling clumsily in place a few yards away. He takes a deep breath and holds it in, preparing to launch a nasty cocktail of toxins; his clones, flickering unconvincingly beside him in the sandstorm, do the same. The toxic attack manages to cross the gap between Vulpix and Cacnea, splattering all over Cupcake's face while he watches another tumbleweed trundle past.

Cupcake staggers back a few paces when the poisonous projectile catches him by surprise, effectively distracting him from the path of that oh-so-fascinating tumbleweed. Indignant and already irritated by the chemicals seeping through his skin he whirls around, then overbalances and falls onto his bottom. A few seconds of undignified flailing later sees the Cacnea giving up, pouting, and continuing his attack from his position on the ground. A flash of brilliant white light shines out of Cupcake's yellow eyes and, this time, manages to wreck Max's vision entirely. A kaleidoscope of shifting color spots dances in front of the little fox's eyes, the distant rocks and Cupcake reduced to indistinct blurs in the background.

Max doesn't feel terribly lucky as he sways on his feet, his head starting to ache with all of the vision troubles he's been having. The only thing going his way right now, in fact, is that his next move doesn't require much precision targeting--he doesn't know what he'd do if it did. The sand scratching away at his body is suddenly deflected by a blast of superheated wind that erupts outward from him. Max's ineffectual clones are unable to stand up to repeated abuse from the sandstorm and the heat wave, and they dissolve into nothingness immediately. Cupcake, on the other hand, takes the full brunt of the widespread wave and is bowled backward several feet across the plains. He screams as the intense heat, far more than he'd ever dealt with in any desert, stings his skin and raises a few painful boils. Max cuts the attack off abruptly and squints across the arena, watching for any sign of movement from his opponent (however vague and indistinct). But Cupcake, too tender and startled to move at the moment, remains where he is. He's a little too upset and dazed to recall exactly what the hellish blast that just hit him was, but he doesn't have to be familiar with it to mess it up--the murky ghostly energy reemerges from his flower and weasels its way into Max's mind, addling his recollection of the proper sequence for a heat wave.

And... dammit, there's that funny feeling again, Max grumbles to himself after the furious Cupcake is done meddling with his thoughts. Trying to think through performing another heat wave makes the Vulpix's head throb even harder, but he doesn't have much choice at the moment--heat wave is what his trainer wants, and so heat wave is what that conniving little thorn bush is going to get right in the kisser. So he shuts his eyes and does his best to soldier through his discomfort, forcing another heat wave out after a great deal of mental strain. Exhausting as his effort is, it goes entirely unrewarded--the heat wave spreads out and reaches several feet to Cupcake's left, leaving the Cacnea feeling a little warm but not as crispy as he was before.

Cupcake, meanwhile, has forgotten his pain and dissolved into a hysterical giggle fit over on his side of the field. It is just as well that Max's attack missed, as whatever mysterious joke has thrown him into these paroxysms of laughter has driven any and all thoughts of protecting himself clear out of his mind. The Cacnea waves his arms wildly over his head as he hoots and guffaws, only half noticing when he accidentally strikes his own head and leaves a small divot in his skin with an arm spike. Max squints around desperately, his spirits only falling further when his hampered vision prevents him from seeing whatever hilarious thing Cupcake has discovered. What he wouldn't give for a reason to laugh right about now...

Round Four: Begin

Max waits, muscles tensed and breath held in anticipation of stopping any nasty poison from coming his way. If Cupcake weren't still hopelessly lost in a case of the giggles he might have caught the half-blind vulpix off-guard with a different attack entirely, but as it stands the cacnea is unable to do anything other than squeal and slap his sides a little harder than necessary at whatever joke he thinks he's heard. After a few seconds of nothing Max relaxes and lets the air out of his lungs. A waste of time, getting all stressed and worked up like that, but at least Cupcake hasn't done anything to hurt him or ruin his eyes any further.

All of this stress and watering-eye nonsense would end quickly enough if Max could just torch his opponent like he wants to, but trying to conjure up most of his powerful fire-type moves still leaves him feeling very uncomfortable. The dejected little fox is reduced to squinting through the sand and spitting a salvo of embers forward almost at random. By some miracle the embers manage to make it all the way over to the chuckling cactus rolling on the ground; they land on the yellow flower sprouting from his head, sending a lance of pain through it that shocks Cupcake right out of his laughter. The mysterious joke or funny sight is instantly forgotten and Cupcake springs to his feet to glare through the swirling grit at Max. Forcing himself to remain lucid for just a moment longer, he channels the burning pain and irritation into a wave of dark, murky energy. The energy pulse spreads out quickly and washes over Max, stinging and chilling him despite his internal warmth and the hot day.

Not to be outdone (and hoping fervently that more widespread attacks will do the trick--he can't rely on getting that lucky again), Max channels his own frustration into a wave of negativity and manages to land a hit. Cupcake staggers back a few paces on contact. He still feels a little lightheaded, but by and large his senses are returning to him. Certainly he doesn't feel like laughing at nothing or smacking himself in the head again. He returns fire with yet another dark pulse of his own, startling Max again but accomplishing little else.
