Arena: A dark room in a haunted house. Infested with ghosts. Ghost attack damage is multiplied by 1.2 after all other factors similar to holding a spooky plate. Now, those ghosts in the background don't just sit making daisy chains, so every round there is:

-10% chance of will-o-wisp. This being a classic will-o-wisp, it will distract one Pokemon chosen at random for two actions, causing 4% ghost-type damage at the end of those actions.
-10% chance of a hypnosis wave. This will cause one pokemon chosen at random to fall asleep.
-15% chance of poltergeist. A ghost animates a random object and throws it. 50% chance of hitting on each pokemon, which will cause 12% Normal-type damage.
-5% chance of possession. A random Pokemon on the field will be possessed by the ghost and the ref can make it do whatever the heck he wants for a round (the macarena is recommended at least once during the battle)
-10% chance of warping the field. A random field effect will come into play (Options: Gravity, Trick Room, Fog, Hail, Sandstorm, Rain, Sun) for two round. (Yes it can stack, if this effect happens twice in a row it can be sunny and rainy)
-And, of course, 50% chance that they don't do anything.

I'm going to do the most predictable thing since the sun rising and send out Asphyxia!

~"Oh my, such lively spirits. I feel right at home here."~

Hmm... I'll go with Goliath the Soothsayer.

Lead with an Ominous Wind. If you get the stat boost, use Confuse Ray; if not, Captivate. Finally, Extrasensory.

Well, Asphyxia, looks like your body mod won't matter much. So, lead of with a Hypnosis. If it hits, great, use an Evil eye. If not, go for a taunt, to buy ourselves a turn. If it remains asleep, use another Evil Eye, if it wakes up or you taunted last turn, use Hypnosis again.

So, Hypnosis~Evil Eye/Taunt~Evil Eye/Hypnosis

As the three trainers enter the darkened room, an eerie keening sound fills the air, before a sharp gust of icy wind blasts past them. They all look around nervously, before Byrus closes the creaky door shut behind them, and they try not to flinch at the loud bang it makes.
The room looks long abandoned, with a layer of dust on its scarce contents, and a chill lingers in the air. The silence is broken here and there by whispering and hissing, with the occasional loud howl thrown in for good measure. The wallpaper is ancient and peeling, and a light scratching seems to be coming from behind the wall itself.
Bravely ignoring the unsettling sounds, the living occupants set about preparing for battle. They ain't afraid of no ghosts.

Pwnemon throws a Pokéball and Asphyxia the Gastly appears, hovering in the gloom. He utters an eerie hiss as he examines the place, looking quite at ease with the chosen spot. He senses the presence of fellow spooks too, hopefully they'll not make any trouble for him.
Risingbadge responds with her Vulpix: Goliath the Soothsayer. Goliath blinks rapidly, adjusting her gaze to the darkness, then peers with interest at the room, alert to the presence of ghoulish tricksters.

The three humans are really starting to wish they'd brought a torch or something, but it would probably spoil the atmosphere. After a bit of fumbling around to find their place, the referee signals for the battle to start.

Round one

As commands are given, Asphyxia swiftly swoops down on his foe, his fangs bared in a vampiric grin. His large eyes begin to glow a dark, luminous red as he sends waves of psychic energy towards Goliath to try and lull her into sleep.
Unfortunately for him, the waves seem to fall short of Goliath, who simply shakes her head irritably and takes a step back. A whisper in the back of her mind keeps telling her to look at the pretty redness, but she manages to push the suggestion away for now and continue with her orders.
She looses a piercing howl as she taps into her own ghostly power, and an ill wind begins to blow around the room. Asphyxia grimaces and glances around uncertainly as the wind whips his gaseous body around, and he has to fight to maintain his form.
Suddenly, a furious shriek chimes in with Goliath’s howl, and the misty, distorted forms of angry spirits are visible, thrashing violently around the room. They clash into Asphyxia and twist around in frenzied circles before disappearing along with the gust of wind. Asphyxia drifts limply in the air, looking a bit shell-shocked by the crazed attack, her eyes wide and blank.

Goliath grins, pleased with her success, though a bit disappointed that the spirits didn’t bestow any of their power on her. Prepping herself up, she holds up her head and approaches the Gastly with a coy look on her face.
She’s startled however, as the motionless Asphyxia suddenly comes to life (metaphorically of course) and blows a loud raspberry at her before bursting into giggles.
For a moment, Goliath simply stands and blinks, looking baffled, but her temper quickly begins to rise as the Gastly follows up his rudeness with an even ruder tirade of insults and jabs. When he makes a particularly nasty remark about her mother, Goliath completely loses her cool and forgoes her commands in favour of furiously pouncing at the Gastly with a snarl. Asphyxia sticks out his tongue and hovers up higher as the enraged Vulpix only manages to claw at the trail of his aura.

Goliath growls at the ghost hovering just out of reach, and begins to try a different tack. Asphyxia grins widely as he sees the Vulpix trying to focus, and swoops down again in another attempt at sending her off to sleep.
His wide eyes glow deep red again as he sends the waves of psychic suggestion flowing towards the Vulpix, and this time he manages to catch her in the waves. Goliath frowns, trying to retain her focus, but the red glare in the corner of her vision demands her attention.
Finally, Goliath is unable to resist, and she slowly turns her gaze towards Asphyxia’s piercing eyes. Her mind begins to fill with fog, and she finds herself unable to think of anything but sleep….
Goliath’s eyelids flutter rapidly as she sways on the spot, before she slowly settles down in a slump, deep in sleep.
Asphyxia grins triumphantly as he watches Goliath snooze, then quickly sneaks a glance out of the corner of his eye. His fellow ghosts don’t appear to be active at the moment, but it’s always best to keep an eye out.

Okay, then, no Evil Eye? Well, shucks.

Gastly, let's take full advantage of the sleepy state of our foe, shall we? Start with a Dream Eater to get back most of your HP. Then, let's use our own Ominous Wind, and see if we can get the boost. I highly doubt that Vulpix will have woken up, but if it does, Captivate it. End with another Ominous Wind, or if the vulpix is awake, captivate it. If it's already been captivated, hypnotize it again.

Round two
Snickering quietly to himself, Asphyxia looms overhead his unsuspecting foe and starts tapping into her mind with his psychic abilities. His wide eyes glow bright pink as he samples Goliath’s dream and saps it away from her to feed his strength.
Goliath whimpers in her sleep as the Gastly meddles with and steals her thoughts, causing her to shiver fitfully but remain sleeping. However, she doesn’t settle down quietly, instead the Vulpix abruptly lurches upright, muttering a jumble of words to herself.
Asphyxia, still savouring the taste of the stolen dream, looks down at her curiously, and floats back a little. The Vulpix continues muttering as her subconscious mind takes over, and an orb of green, earthy energy forms in her jaws. She spits the energy ball at the looming Gastly and it bursts on contact with his ethereal body, sending him spinning around in surprise.

Asphyxia grimaces at the unexpected attack, thankful that the poisonous vapours of his body at least lessened the blow a bit. He floats upwards again, looking a little more wary now that he realises his foe just isn’t going to snooze away quietly.
His gaseous aura flares up like a bonfire as he summons some angry spirits of his own, and it isn’t long before they answer the call. A chilling wind blows throughout the room, and the howling and hissing of malicious spirits is soon heard. The blurry, distorted shapes crash into the sleeping Vulpix, tearing at her with clawed hands and sending her rolling backwards in a heap.
Goliath whimpers again, her tails drooping, but she still remains locked in her deep sleep. Nevertheless, she does begin to stir, and Asphyxia tenses as he hears her frantic muttering start up again. Goliath’s jaws open as she inhales deeply, and a blazing jet of flames erupts from her mouth. Asphyxia hisses furiously as the fire rushes over him, forcing him backwards in its wake. As Goliath’s jaws snap shut again, the stream of fire subsides, and she slowly sinks down again.

Looking a little dazed, Asphyxia floats aimlessly for a moment as he tries to regain his bearings. His purplish aura looks strangely blackened, but it gradually regains its proper colour as the Gastly regains his focus. Asphyxia scowls at his sleeping foe, vowing revenge for that nasty roasting. He again summons the ghostly spirits around to attack, his aura flaring up even more wildly than before. The angry spectres return to wreck havoc all too happily, streaming about in the chill wind and smacking into Goliath with howling gusto. The Vulpix is roughly tossed about again, yelping in pain even as she sleeps.
When the ghostly wind subsides again, Asphyxia is still somewhat amazed to see Goliath remain sleeping, although she definitely appears to be in a very light doze. She slowly gets to her feet again, her tails and eyelids twitching rapidly. Asphyxia hovers overhead uncertainly, until he is suddenly jolted by a crippling ache in his head, causing him to tense up and grimace. Out of the corner of his eye, he sees Goliath glowing with a light aura as she radiates waves of psychic energy. She abruptly lurches forward, as if to pounce, but instead delivers a mental strike to her foe, sending of wave of excruciating pain towards him in an arrow of psychic energy. Asphyxia writhes around in the air, his eyes wide with shock and pain and his aura flares around him erratically. Goliath’s head snaps back as she releases the mental attack, leaving her foe hanging limply in the air, groaning in pain, but happy to have control of his mind once more.
However, he's suddenly roused from his thoughts by a piercing shriek coming from nearby. The Gastly cringes, wondering how on earth Goliath can sleep through that racket. Adding to the noise, an array of books come flailing out of a bookshelf and are violently launched across the other end of the room. Asphyxia automatically floats down lower in an attempt to duck, but the missiles sail right over him, banging into the right hand corner and missing both Pokémon completely. The angry shrieking fades as the books fall into a heap, the spirit having apparently vented its frustration for now.

My word, you're really lost in Dreamland, aren't you? That just like my little girl <3

Let's keep it up. Keep on Sleep Talkin', and on the first turn you wake up use Overheat. If you get an Overheat off, Confuse Ray until it works.

ouch, that lucky extrasensory really bites. 20% sub up on the first turn because fire blast can't destroy it and then it'll spend the rest of the turn doing nothing.

This is where it gets fun. If the pix wakes up T1 you're behind a sub, so you have two turns to set up. In that case, Curse it, then use Pain Split. If it remains asleep the first turn, but does a non-attacking move with sleep talk, do the same.

If it remains asleep and damages you, turn two dream eater, then taunt it turn three to stop the Confuse Ray.

Round three

As Goliath shifts about restlessly, Asphyxia sets about channelling his own energy into making a substitute. Tendrils of gas trail out from the ghost’s form and bind themselves together in a roughly spherical shape, while Asphyxia remains floating motionless in the air.
The faux Gastly looks blurry and distorted at first, before Asphyxia carefully pulls the thing together, channelling some more of his own health into the creation to stabilize it. He seems to be noticeably straining under the effort, but it pays off when the doppelganger’s hallow eye sockets suddenly light up and it begins floating along on its own accord.
The slightly drained looking Gastly grins wearily as he surveys his new creation, allowing it to hover protectively over him. With that out of the way, he grimly turns back towards Goliath, hoping she isn’t going to dish out any more punishment.
The Vulpix has staggered to her feet once again, not quite awake yet but definitely not sleeping easy. As she begins muttering again, a soothing green light gently encases her body, seeming to sink into her skin and surround her with a light glow.
….And that’s all. Despite his added security, Asphyxia can’t help but feel relieved.

Moving out from behind his shield a bit, Asphyxia glares down at his dozing foe, his wide eyes taking on an ominous red glow. His aura flares up and dances about erratically as the Gastly grins widely beside his blank looking doppelganger.
After loosing a mournful scream that causes the sleeping Vulpix to shiver violently, Asphyxia begins uttering a tirade in some indescribable language, punctuating each sentence with an evil sounding hiss.
A shadowy mass rises from his body as he chants, and slowly descends down on the quivering Goliath. The shadow quickly engulfs her in darkness then seems to disappear into her skin, drawing a prolonged shiver from the unfortunate Vulpix.
As the glow in Asphyxia’s eyes fades, the Gastly stops chanting and hangs limply in the air for a moment, looking pleased but somewhat tired.
Goliath meanwhile, finally wakes up, though she doesn’t appear to have enjoyed her sleep very much. She looks around groggily, then shakes her head to clear it as she takes a few tentative steps forward. There’s an indescribably bad feeling plaguing her, but she manages to push it at the back of her mind for now as she focuses on that tricky ghost. (and his little substitute too) She snarls at Asphyxia as heat pours off her in waves and fire erupts from around her body. Tendrils of flame burst from her jaws as she builds up the intense attack before she finally unleashes the roaring inferno straight at the Gastly hovering above her. Asphyxia hisses angrily as the searing heat washes over him, but his substitute quickly zooms in front of him, spreading out its aura to absorb the white-hot flames. The fire quickly engulfs the substitute in its fury, eating away at its essence and leaving it looking heavily diminished. As the inferno slowly relents, Goliath bows her head, her tails drooping as she flops onto the floor.

While Goliath takes a time-out, Asphyxia takes a brief moment to survey the damage wrecked on his substitute. The searing flames have left the faux-Gastly looking like a floating lump of coal. The spark of life in its eye sockets is also flickering weakly, but the creation looks like it could at least stand one more strike.
Asphyxia floats forward, leering down at Goliath as he channels ghostly energy towards her. Goliath is oblivious at first, but as she blearily looks up, she gives a startled yelp upon noticing a spectral aura surrounding her body. The purplish aura connects to the aura of the Gastly floating overhead, and Goliath is wrecked with aches and shiver as she feels her life-force slowly being drained away.
Asphyxia’s grin widens as he sees his opponent reduced to a quivering ball of fur. He savours the energy that the bond bestows on him, then abruptly severs the connection when its purpose is done. Goliath gasps as the aura vanishes, and stumbles about confusedly on her now aching limbs. When she manages to regain her balance, she grits her teeth and raises her head towards the smirking ghost. With a sour look on her face, the Vulpix opens her jaws and gently exhales what seems to be a small tongue of flame.
As the projectile floats forward however, it slowly disperses into a stream of small, fiery orbs. The orbs dart towards the Gastly, but the scorched and crumbling substitute immediately bars their way. Some of the strange lights disappear upon making contact with it, though some stubbornly try to float around it, to no success. Goliath scowls as the ray of lights finally vanish for good, leaving her feeling irritated and weary.
Adding to her misery, Asphyxia's curse abruptly kicks in, sending waves of pain through her body that cause her to fall to the ground with a feeble whimper. When the curse relents, Goliath is left looking very shaken as she gingerly gets to her feet.

Round Four

Asphyxia snickers to himself then takes a moment to rest, floating leisurely in the air as he regains some much needed energy. As he drifts, he hears a low keening sound fill the air, and a heavy, damp mist slowly begins to seep into the room.
Asphyxia is content to ignore the cold mist creeping forth, but Goliath begins to shiver again, feeling even more miserable than before. Nevertheless, she keeps her head up, trying to ignore the general discomfort she’s feeling.
She eyes the floating, misshapen lump that Asphyxia’s substitute has been reduced to and takes a deep breath. As flames begin to spill from her jaws, the fog continues to grow thicker, and Goliath has to squint to see the charcoal blob. With a rumbling growl, she unleashes the column of fire at the substitute, where it cuts a blazing path through the growing fog and engulfs the creation in flames. The weakened substitute is quickly reduced to ash, which falls through the mist and lands on the floor in a sad little pile.

Asphyxia grumbles a bit as he sees the remains of his substitute before turning to face his opponent. The fog around them is thick and cloying, but doesn’t seem to be getting any worse at least.
Asphyxia squints at his opponent, managing to pick out the bright, fiery colours of her fur, and starts generating a mix of vile toxins. His aura shimmers and flickers as purple poison drips from his fangs, before the Gastly spits out the foul mixture with a choked sounding cackle. Goliath tenses herself, but can’t help crying out in disgust and pain when the potent venom splashes onto her fur. She frantically tries to shake off the purple mess as it hisses and soaks into her coat. Lucky for her, she manages to shed the worst of the toxins before it enters her bloodstream. Her fur remains matted and messy looking however, much to her disgust.
Baring her teeth, the enraged Vulpix crouches down, and a blackened aura of dark energy surrounds her small form. The aura is slightly muted by the fog creeping around her, but she manages to catch sight of her floating opponent and leap right at him with a snarl. Asphyxia’s eyes widen as Goliath barrels towards him and bashes into him, managing to sink in her fangs along the way. The Gastly hisses in pain and thrashes around madly, his aura flickering erratically in his panic. With a muffled growl, Goliath lets go and lands on her feet, still panting but looking slightly calmer.

Asphyxia scowls at Goliath, still smarting from the unexpectedly vicious attack. He takes a moment to try and calm himself down, he's going to have to try and win that fangy furball over after all.
Trying not to glower, Asphyxia slowly hovers over towards Goliath so she can clearly see him through the thick curtain of fog.
Goliath looks up warily as the ghost suddenly changes his tune, and starts praising her on such an amazing display of strength and courage. He grins in what he hopes is a suave way as he continues to pour on the charm, but as he talks, he can't help but notice something shimmering brightly through the pearly fog. A strange, glittering light seems to coat Goliath's body, obscuring his view off her and making him feel... funny. Asphyxia freezes for a moment, blinking rapidly, before he suddenly realizes that Goliath really is quite cute. How on earth did he not notice that before?
As Asphyxia hovers overhead and grins bashfully, Goliath lets the magic coat drop and tries not to cringe. She isn't exactly keen on the thought of a ghost pining after her. As she backs away, she's suddenly gripped by a horrible jolt of pain that sends her sprawling onto the ground with a shocked cry. She'd forgotten all about that curse inflicted on her until that painful reminder. Asphyxia gasps as he sees her doubled up in agony, and hovers over her uncertainly, looking somewhat concerned. Goliath simply growls at him as she limps to her feet, but the Gastly doesn't quite get the hint.

Round five

Asphyxia looks noticeably strained as he begins to channel some of his own energy into making another doppelganger. Tendrils of gas trail out from his aura, forming together to a make a spherical shape. The dark purple gas stands out clearly in the whiteness of the fog, and soon enough another Gastly substitute is floating amongst the sea of white. As sparks of life flare up in the substitute’s hollow eye sockets, Asphyxia floats limply in the air, looking very drained.
So drained in fact, that he appears to have temporarily forgot about his newfound attraction. Goliath isn’t overly concerned about that. The Vulpix squints through the cloying fog, and growls as she notices the blank looking substitute hovering next to its creator.
She takes a shaky step backwards, then closes her eyes and begins to draw upon her psychic powers. Goliath is soon glowing with a faint aura of her own, and when she opens her eyes, she nods her head in Asphyxia’s direction, releasing a mental strike of psychic energy.
She isn’t surprised to find her pathway to her foe’s mind is barricaded off by the faux Gastly floating overhead, and the substitute is soon flailing and reeling around in the air. The weary Asphyxia snaps back to attention when he sees his substitute’s erratic behaviour, and his face falls when he sees Goliath is the source of the problem.
Is she trying to imply his substitute is badly made? Seriously, he put a lot of effort into that.
When Goliath releases her mental hold, the substitute is left looking a bit ravaged and jagged around the edges, but it still holds itself together easily enough.

Although he’s still looking a little hurt by her callousness, Asphyxia still appears a little reluctant to attack the adorable little Vulpix. However, he’s feeling more than a little under the weather at the moment, and he does have a chance at delivering the final strike this round if he takes the chance…
The Gastly hovers around aimlessly, looking guiltily at Goliath. The Vulpix is tensed up and looks ready to pounce. Although, in reality, that’s the last thing she feels like doing; she’s not faring much better than the spook opposite her. As she glares over at him, the love-struck ghost makes his decision, and purple venom begins to drip from his fangs. He then spits the poisonous projectile at Goliath and immediately turns away, not wanting to see the impact.
Goliath’s muzzle wrinkles in disgust as she sees the familiar sludge hurtling towards her, and she utters a pained cry when it splashes onto her coat. She frantically tries to shake off the poison as it burns through her fur, and manages to get the worst off it off before she doubles up in pain. Unfortunately, her coat is left worse than ever.
She grits her teeth and struggles to hold herself steady, and a blackened aura surrounds her small form. She squints through the curtain of fog, and manages to catch sight of her opponent floating nearby, then springs forward with her teeth bared. Asphyxia’s substitute immediately darts in front of its creator, and Asphyxia looks back in surprise at the vicious little furball heading his way.
In her weakened state, Goliath’s pounce is less than graceful, but she just about manages to snag onto the interfering substitute’s ethereal body with her sharp teeth. She quickly sinks her fangs in further, snarling and ripping at the substitute’s body, which is rapidly beginning to disintegrate. Eventually, it completely falls apart, and the light in its hallow eyes blinks out. As the remains of the ruined creation fall to the ground, Goliath falls down with it, landing none too gracefully.

As the weary Vulpix tries to get her breath back, Asphyxia hovers overhead, looking uncertain and more than a little wary. How can something so cute be so vicious? Maybe he's better off admiring her from a safe distance....
As Goliath looks up, her ears and tails droop when she sees more nasty venom dripping from Asphyxia's mouth. Still looking somewhat apologetic, the Gastly spits the purple glob of poison at the unfortunate Vulpix, hitting her on the back.
Goliath collapses onto the floor from the force of the projectile, and can only manage a few feeble groans of pain as the poison burns her skin. She manages to feebly shake her coat and dislodge some of the vile mixture, before shakily raising up again. Although she makes it to her feet, she looks extremely unsteady and unfocused. Asphyxia can't help but feel sorry for her... until he sees that familiar black aura flare up again.
He cringes as Goliath summons up her remaining energy and pounces towards him, but this time she falls short of her mark. Her eyes widen in surprise as she falls face first on the floor, and she looks up dumbly at the Gastly floating overhead in the sea of fog, amazed at her miss.
For a moment, Asphyxia simply looks down at her blankly, his wide eyes blinking rapidly, while Goliath blearily looks back. However, Goliath soon breaks the silence with a pained howl, breaking Asphyxia out of his stupor. She writhes around in pain for a few moments before slowing to a halt, the last of her strength drained from her by the curse.
As the worn out looking Gastly looks down at her in surprise, the surrounding fog slowly begins to fade away until only a few wispy strands are left.

Battle notes

- Goliath was left with 1% health after the two sludge bombs, so the curse was what finally did her in. Her second payback missed. The RNG gods seemed to favour Asphyxia this round for the most part.
- No extra arena effects.
- Risingbadge sends out.
- Pwnemon attacks.
- Rising badge attacks.

As if that won't ruin my entire Desiny Bond strategy D:

Let's make this simple. Whenever he isn't Protected, Perish Song as soon as possible. The first time he protects, Chill. the second, Haze. The third, Double Team (3 Clones). If you get off a perish song and he isn't protected, Will-O-Wisp. If this happens again, Pain Split.

Perish Song/Chill~Perish Song/Haze/Will-O-Wisp~Perish Song/Double Team/Pain Split.
