2 vs. 2
DQ Time: 5 days
Damage Cap: None
Banned moves: OHKOs, Destiny Bond, Perish Song and similar; Super Fang, Endeavor, Pain Split, and similar; 5 chills/Pokemon, 1 direct healer/Pokemon
Arena: Basic Stage
The Basic Stage is simply that; a plain expanse of mottled white tiled floor. A large pond of water waits on the side, for Water types to use and stay in. Above is the sky, where for now, the sun hovers far above. There are no special effects, and the field is completely flat, the tiling reaching about a hundred feet square. The tiling isn’t very strong, and can easily be broken for access to dirt for moves such as Dig and Mud Slap.

Suicune breathed deeply and gave a series of quick, short bellows, water gushing from its jaws with each roar. The water slapped at Persephone’s rubbery skin. Though it didn’t hurt all that much, the rhythmic pulses and garbled sound carried in the liquid was disorientating. Persephone found the world swimming, but only for a moment as the strange energy of the Safeguard purged the Chansey’s brain of distracting visions and noises.
Static, meanwhile, was searching for material to construct a Substitute. Finding little, he instead ripped a bit of his own wool out, then held his glowing tail next to the downy ball. Lightning passed between Static’s tail and the wool with a sharp [/i]zap[/i], and suddenly the wool was growing, sprouting rough, fluffy equivalents of a head, tail, and legs. Soon, a wool-Mareep, complete with its own Reflect, stood beside the real one.
Though the Light Screen had faded away last round, Persephone had no intention of leaving her side exposed to special attacks. The pink nurse-blob put her stubby arms forward. Rosy sparks flew from her hands as the psychic barrier was renewed.
Kyogre was loathe to mess around with rocks and earth – leave that to its arch-nemesis, Groudon – but it focused on the ground underneath Static anyway, urging it to burst upwards to crush the sheep. Sensing danger, Static’s faithful construct pushed its creator out of the way (how it managed that, when it was just a puff of cotton, was beyond comprehension). Tiles shattered as rock forced itself to the surface, slicing at the Substitute, though it was sturdy enough to keep itself together.
Suicune lowered its head and ran at Static, though like Kyogre it was intercepted by the wooly mimic. The strange pink bubble was difficult to pass through, and by the time Suicune’s head connected with the Substitute, it had lost a fair bit of momentum. Nevertheless, the feather-light Substitute was tossed away. It was beginning to look a bit ragged, but it still had plenty of life force left.
A flicker caught Static’s attention. The pink bubble around him was starting to lose strength, as it was sputtering and wavering. He’d just have to protect himself in a different way, then. Closing his eyes, Static sent a pulse of energy towards the roots of each bit of wool, coaxing it to grow. And grow it did: with a muffled
poof the wool suddenly swelled to twice its size, nearly burying the Mareep’s head. Only his snout stuck out. His legs were completely enveloped in wool, and only a third of his tail remained, the shining orb on the end bobbing about. Well. Static
baaed in distress, convinced that he looked quite ridiculous.
Persephone stared, speechless, at her partner, then at her trainer. She was supposed to copy that? Wasn’t she fat enough already? With a sigh, the Chansey reluctantly reached into Static’s mind, and found within it a bounty of defensive changes to copy. The naked eye could observe no changes to Persephone’s body, but the Chansey herself felt a bit odd: like she was sparking with residual electricity and surrounded by a thick layer of fluff.
Kyogre breathed in deeply, then broke off with a series of choked gasps as its muscles clenched in rebellion. The great whale twitched violently, then lay still, completely immobilized. It could barely even breathe. Its eyes, stretched wide with horror, displayed panic uncharacteristic for a legendary.
Like Static had predicted, the Reflect finally gave out, dissolving into a wave of golden specks.
A sadistic urge crept into Suicune as it watched its partner flap about pathetically. Hail wasn’t bad enough of weather, oh no. The beast of water faintly recalled that whales get sunburns easily… Sneering, Suicune tilted its head back, an orange orb forming in its mouth. When it was sufficiently large, it floated up to the ceiling, where it blazed brightly and warmly. In response, the weather generators stopped paying out hailstones. Slowly the temperature of the room rose to sweltering levels.
Kyogre’s misery didn’t stop there. As it groaned in discomfort at the miniature sun beating down on its sensitive skin, a bout of crackling was heard and yet more lightning pierced the air. This time, it was not from the ceiling but from Static. Kyogre roared in anger and indignity, furious that it was being bested by a tiny fluffy sheep. Then its roar was cut off by a sudden, violently spasm; the Thunderbolt had renewed electricity’s grip on the whale’s muscles.
With a miniature sun bathing the arena in harsh light and heat, Persephone had no trouble gathering enough energy for a Solarbeam. A magnificent orb of golden power grew between her hands, bright and dangerous and unstable, until she could hold onto it no longer. The resulting beam flew straight towards Kyogre. The immense pain was enough to momentarily jolt the legendary out of its paralysis, and it roared again, the solar energy scorching sensitive skin and warring with its innate water-type. Kyogre felt like it was drying up, like a pathetic Magikarp beached on a hot summer day.
With uncooperative nerves and massively distracting agony, all Kyogre could do was break a few tiles with a smack of a fin, wet the dirt, and throw some of it at Static. Yet again, the Substitute leapt in the way, its own little Light Screen blocking some of the grime and. It shivered as it was plastered with the remaining mud, but still stood valiantly.
As the round drew to a close, the Safeguard surrounding Skylark’s Pokemon disappeared as well, leaving only the pinkish Light Screen as protection against the two legendaries.
