• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

I need some advice for Julie's Journey

So, yeah, I need advice/help for my fic, Julie's Journey. I'm really about to run out of ideas. Any suggestions for pokemon in the main characters team, new characters, what could happen next, etc., would be greatly appreciated. I'm going to list the characters current teams here.

I never run out of ideas, because I am sloooooow...

Anyway just listing out the teams and telling us to come up with Pokémon is an unproductive thing to do since we know nothing about the story yet and therefore any possible suggestions we come up with will be of our own bias, like our favourite Pokémon and whatnot. How do we know what could happen next if we don't even know what happens so far?

I figured most people would at least read the first chapter before posting here. But, that's just an excuse, and it doesn't matter right now. The reason I'm still writing isn't because I want to write this story, it's because I want to finish it.

I had no idea this was in the writing section of this forum. It would probably help people navigate if you put the link to the story in the first post of this topic.

People on this site aren't too supportive of reader collabs. I think a lot of us here share the thought that if it's not your original ideas, then it's not really your story. That if you have to have others come up with something as crucial to the story as the characters in it then you really aren't prepared to write the story yet. Try outlining for a while instead and really mapping out your story, don't just plan a few chapters ahead or something like that. Like for my main fic, a Skyrim one, I've got the entire thing written by chapter and perspectives and such all written in descriptive outlines.

Also, why would everyone need six Pokémon? Might make things easier for you.

^ this. Although outlining doesn't work for some people, including me.

tips: As advice for the "what pokeys should main characters catch"... It's your story. Your favorites will be caught and be awesome. You may want to consider implementing your own fakes in the story like Butterfree did for TQftL. If you're really lacking ideas, go to a RNG on the web like this and randomise a number between 1 and 649; that will be the dex number of the Pokemon [insert main character here] catches, in lowest evolution stage... bar legendaries, of course.

Try to develop their personalities more, I guess? Because Jen and whatshisname-Henry don't really seem to have real profiles that you can base their conversations and whatnot on, besides that little battle they had.

Also, a quick question: Why exactly did you choose to make the Messenger appear as a Manectric? just wondering.

And how exactly do moves work? Is it a four-slot movepool (games), multi-slot movepool (anime), or infinite-slot movepool (ASB)? abilities would be cool.
