Centrico Plaza is the crown jewel resting in the core of Lumiose City. Just the Prism Tower, standing at the very center of it, is already one of the most widely recognized landmarks of the entire region; and even the rest of the location isn't too shabby, with verdant gardens, beautifully patterned cobblestone pathes, the sound of the river running underneath the floor, and a surrounding circle of mid-height Kalosian houses, the splendorous local arquitecture adorning the plaza as a foil. Many businesses have come into being at the ground floors of the area, but today, the world-famous roundway of egg hatching is all Asber's, with barriers sealing off all of the many roads leading into the city's very own hub -- and of course, curious crowds gathering at the edges to watch the competition.

For this round of the tournament, each player has been loaned a fresh Pokémon from Kalos. Battles in this round will not last longer than five rounds; if neither Pokémon has fainted by the end of the fifth round, the winning trainer will be the one with the greatest sum of health and energy remaining on their Pokémon.

I've never used a Swirlix, so this should be interesting!

But ehhh, let's start simple. Put up a 15% Substitute, and then Flamethrower away. If Chespin tries to Protect or is otherwise unreachable, use Cotton Guard.

Substitute (15%) ~ Flamethrower/Cotton Guard ~ Flamethrower/Cotton Guard

Spam Sludge Bomb, except on the first action that the Substitute is broken. When the Substitute breaks, use Swagger instead.

Sludge Bomb ~ Sludge Bomb/Swagger ~ Sludge Bomb/Swagger

Ether's Bane and Dragon had agreed not to send out their Pokémon until crunch time. Neither trainer was very accostumed to the rental Pokémon they were assigned to, although they were told ahead of time which ones they'd get...

And then, when Dragon's came out of the Pokéball, it released a shimmer shower of sparkles as it did. Is it supposed to be chocolate-flavored?

It took a moment for Chespin to pick his jaw up from the floor after seeing that unusual opponent, but a battle is a battle and a shiny enemy is just an enemy like any other, or so he thought.

Regardless, the head-turner of the round had the lead in initiative. He skipped and hopped towards the impressed watchers on the other side of the barrier, and then leapt to drop some ice cream off a family who had gotten themselves a bunch of it. Gathering up all of the fallen dessert, he gave it a hearty lick and then, suddenly, it bundled all up until it took on its dropper's own shape, springing to life most bizarrely.

But just as the ice cream monster had been given to creation, it was smashed apart by a hurtling projectile. Swirlix turned around to notice and glare at her foe, who was smugly looking on while bouncing a purple ball of goo on her hand. Irate, the fairy floss Pokémon spat out a sticky string, then let out a strange roar as she set the wire on fire, creating a flame that raged all the way across into the target.

Just before the attack could land, Chespin hurled the Sludge Bomb that she had been holding. Swirlix thought that one was meant for her, but just in time, the last remaining ice cream ball with life in it took a dive, exploding into droplets of gooey water as the incoming projectile burst into it with full force. Splattered by the mortal remains of the Substitute, the shiny Pokémon continued to attack in a rage, and this time, the blaze that seared the spiny nut Pokémon's vegetable tissues remained persistent even after the attack, causing a patch on her shoulder to become in need of medical assistance.

Ignoring the injury for the time being, Ether's Bane's Pokémon closed the distance between herself and her opponent a little, then got started on some smack talk about that pathetic Substitute. An entire family's snack, ruined, and for something that would go down that fast! What a joke. And of course, the Fairy-type took very unkindly to the making fun of the deceased, and lunged to attack even more savagely than before -- but she was stopped by a whistle and a downed flag.

Dragon could barely keep Swirlix from rushing headlong back into the scene in the between-rounds -- at the very least she'd have to listen to the commands first. Although in the end, it seemed as if they'd gone through one ear to the other as the match finally started again.

And of course, instead of actually performing Magic Coat, the fairy floss Pokémon's first action was to rush the enemy and attempt to attack. The uncoordinated move was easy for Chespin to counter, however -- a simple sweep kick, and the incoming attacker would take the most dramatic dive before crashing facefirst into the ground. And of course, while she lay facedown, she was an exceptionally easy target for the firing of some seedlings that dug straight into her skin as they spread their parasitic roots.

But Swirlix wouldn't leave it at that. Even more furious than before, she took a massive leap... And missed her foe by a couple meters, instead landing carelessly and roughly a distance away. And of course, her mark watched with a grin, and then started once more to pelt her with burst blobs of grime, this time with no Substitute to save the day, and nothing but the dirt getting all over her perfect shiny fluffy candy coat, staining it dark purple.

Sobering up for just a moment, Dragon's rental finally tried to follow her orders, although still putting an inordinate amount of anger into it. Her mouth lay agape as she tried to bellow out something squarely between a yawn and a roar. Chespin decied to act like it was making her sleepy just to see if it's enrage the opponent further, but it wasn't long before the act started to make her actually drowsy, enough to make her almost miss when throwing the next Sludge Bomb -- although, fortunately for her, a berserk enemy makes for a very easy target.

- Chespin will most likely fall asleep at the end of the first action next round.
- Swirlix hit the damage cap at the third action with Sludge Bomb, and ate the Oran Berry once she did.
- Dragon commands first next round.

(Did Chespin take any burn damage this round, or was that healed back by Leech Seed?)

:(((( confusion sucksssss, oh man. So, let out your frustration with a nice Frustration. Go ahead and just let loose! Just really go at it!! Let's see how angry you are!!!! If she protects or is otherwise unreachable (not including Substitute), use Aromatherapy and relax a bit, probably.

Then, when Chespin's asleep, use Dream Eater twice. If she's still somehow awake on either of those actions, or you're Taunted and she's not asleep somehow, use Flamethrower. If she wakes up on the second action, use Yawn.

Frustration/Aromatherapy ~ Dream Eater/Flamethrower ~ Dream Eater/Flamethrower/Yawn

Swirlix seemed to be chasing after her own tail at the beginning of the round, but she was really still aggressively trying to reach the hurtful vines growing on her back. Her opponent couldn't help but let out a giggle at the scene... And then she'd get to needing help as the fairy floss Pokémon hopped forth to make the mockery stop with an extremely aggressive flying kick to the face.

That attack left Chespin lying on the ground, and she actually found the position rather comfortable as she steadily drifted off... She managed just one more attack, flung forwards very casually, before she fully closed her eyes and headed off to dreamland. Her foe was rather offended by the display, but she was out of effective rage attacks and just ended up falling flat on her face again.

The spiny nut Pokémon dreamed of nothing but a minimalist room, in which she could relax and let her troubles be forgotten. Breathing deeply in relief, she sat at the center of the white dimension, meditating and clearing her thoughts. But she found that stillness stifled her mind, and rose to her feet in order to pace about as her thoughts flowed. Most amusing, as she did so, she ultimately tripped, but fortunately, she just landed her head right into a tall, soft pillow that happened to be there for some reason.

Just then, a strange noise echoed in the tranquil room... And then, the pillow grew in size tremendously and burned up in dark-tinted flames. The indigo-black blaze spread quickly, eating away at the white surfaces to reveal a more complex and mind-boggling background. Disturbed, Chespin started to attack the fiery pillow, feeling a horrid sting each time she landed a blow -- but somehow, it felt just right to maul the aflame object.

Meanwhile, Swirlix tilted her head to the side as her opponent dealt a series of sleepwalking blows that did little damage, no matter how intense the motions.

Ether's Bane and Dragon both issued their commands calmly, only to suddenly go pale as they mutually forgot to account for a certain possibility. Only one of them had the chance to redact their orders, however...

Redacted orders or no, though, Swirlix was still beyond reason, somewhat beleaguered by her foe's sudden and erratic movements. She couldn't seem to relax, and instead, she tried to knock her opponent into a more appropriate lying position for sleep, but all she accomplished in the attempt was to prickle herself on a thorny helmet.

Chespin's disturbed dream continued, of course. She was forced into a ceasefire with the mysterious burning object, but it respected no peace and continued to destroy the white fabric of reality. Enraged, the spiny nut Pokémon eagerly sprang back into attack as soon as the time was due -- she lowered her head, then drove her spiked helmet right into the dark pillow. The malefic artifact struggled against the head-driven stab, wiggling and striking and searing, but it eventually lay still and began to disintegrate.

As the sinister cushion faded from existance, a pleasant fragance started to fill the air. It relaxed the nose and seemed even to rebuild the quiet of dreaming, as it manifested in a pink glow extending from the destroyed parts of the plain room, eventually binding as one into the original shape of the surface, and lastly, finally reconstituting it, settling into the same still tone and connecting seamlessly, just as if the place had never been disrupted. For a moment, there was a pang of hunger, but it vanished just as quickly as it had come.

However, Chespin remained somewhat restless, and the room started to change in reflection to it. She feared another stalwart mental intrusion, and so, she began to prepare for another clash. Conversely, the walls and flooring seemed to change into that of a dojo... And before engaging in the true training, the knightly Pokémon first had to sit down and meditate, strenghtening her will into one as sturdy as iron...

And suddenly, she sprang into action. A dummy appeared before her. Her eyes leaped open, and she hopped forward to attack. She couldn't take fully advantage of the momentum on her initial spring, however, but relied on her reflex to keep attacking, driving a quick kick into the base of the construct.

Just as she struck the target, however, it began to move! It sprouted a bipedal set of jointed wooden limbs, stood, and then revealed its eyes and mouth with a roar. As it screamed, the surface of the dreamspace seemed to shatter yet again... What a nightmare!

Additional notes:
- Swirlix confusionfailed on the first action, but succeeded the confusion roll perfectly on the second.
- Sleep Talk rolled Take Down, Iron Defense, and Low Sweep.
- Chespin ate the Oran Berry on the first action after taking recoil damage. (ETA: I initially forgot to account for the burn reduction on Take Down, and accounting for it pushes the Oran Berry eating for later, when Chespin is struck by Dream Eater in the third action; I can't be arsed to fix the flavor description on that, though)
- Aromatherapy on the second action healed Swirlix's confusion, and also wore out one of the Attack boosts, leaving her at 1+ for the time being.
- Dragon commands first next round.

Oh man, this isn't looking too good, Swirlix! Let's try our best, though, and maybe we can pull something off here. Hmmm.

Let Chespin go first on the first action, and then get nice and close and use Endeavor. If she wakes up and Protects, then chill instead. If she puts up a small (10%) Substitute then go ahead and Flamethrower it, but if it's any bigger or you can't tell what size it is, just chill.

(If she used Protect or you used Flamethrower this action, use Endeavor next. Unless she Protects, in which case chill instead and push Endeavor back another action. If she Protects again (???) then.. just chill again.)

Then, keep a close eye on her. If she attacks, use Protect, but if she isn't attacking, go ahead and chill. Aaaand let's hope for the best!

(wait and) Endeavor/Flamethrower/chill ~ chill/Protect/Endeavor ~ chill/Protect/Endeavor

If you're asleep, just spam Sleep Talk.

If you're awake on any action:

Sludge Bomb on the first action, then a Double Team of as many clones as you can muster, and finally, another Sludge Bomb.

Chespin faced the abomination is her dream, determined to take it down in one hit. She closed her eyes, then started to hover slightly, hands raised straight into the air. Soon, all of the dreamscape but the eldritch beyond started to glow, its light gathering above the spiny nut Pokémon's helmeted head. She looked straight forward, wearing her best anime protagonist gaze, and announced some silly name for the move before throwing the sphere of gathered energy down. Surely, it'd land with a bang... It seemed to electrocute the possessed dummy for a moment...

And then, it spat the energy back at even greater force. Chespin was engulfed in a terrible, forceful blast of light that consumed the dreamscape whole, leaving nothing but unknowable nothingness... And in that moment, her eyes threw open, and she found herself pinned to the ground with her opponent standing atop her, just seeming innocent as ever.

Now remembering the important match at hand, Ether's Bane flew into something of a panic, rushing to get the fight back on properly. She quickly struggled out from under the enemy's feet, then hustled into a sprint, whizzing around Prism Tower as if she had eggs to hatch, almost bumping into some of the other matches underway.

Swirlix wasn't anywhere nearly as concerned, and just laid on the tiled ground to take five. What was strange was when her foe came back as four, all angrily aiming a lob of slob. The fairy floss Pokémon could only let out the beginning of a yelp before the projectiles flew, and she had to quickly shield herself in order to avert the attack.

Both Pokémon were in bad shape as the flag lowered for the last time. Their time was up, and further grievances would have to be directed towards the logistics errors that forced the limit to be put in place. Each Chespin was breathing heavily and barely managing to stand, and Swirlix too swayed on her feet. Who would take the glory -- the knightly starter, or the radiant candy? It was all down to careful examination...
