[11] RespectTheBlade vs bulbasaur (ref: Byrus)

Crap. This is the one match I don't want to get DQ'd in.

Alright, Zero, time to win. he's in the air right now, so don't try to attack. As a default, use Protect, Endure, and then Protect again to prevent any damage. If he lands to use a healing move/attacking move at any time, hit him with an Ice Shard as long as you will move first when you use it. If for some reason you won't, stick with your base strategy. Finally, if he uses Protect, Detect, Endure, etc, use Double Team to make it a lot harder for him to hit you.

Protect/Ice Shard/Double Team ~ Endure/Ice Shard/Double Team ~ Protect/Ice Shard/Double Team

Ooh, tricky. As soon as Zero cannot hold her Protect/Endure any longer, come down and Quick Attack. Otherwise, Chill as best as you can while you're in the air.

Chill~Fly down and Quick Attack/Chill~Fly down and Quick Attack/Chill

EDIT, Sept.13 4:15 pm: Now I realize that Frosslass is part-Ghost. D: If you haven't started working on it at all, I'd like to switch the commands to Chill~Chill/Fly down and Aerial Ace x2. However, it's more than likely that you have already, and in that case, please, please, please, please, please ignore these changes.

Round six

As the two beaten down Pokémon try to regain their bearings, they barely notice as the next familiar song starts up, and a chill wind blows through the hall. The crowd murmurs and shivers, then look up in dismay as thick, black clouds slowly begin to form overhead. Obviously a Castform is at work behind the scenes.... There is much grumbling and complaining from the crowd as the hailstones begin to pelt down, and a few well-prepared watchers quickly whip out their umbrellas. The floor rapidly becomes slick and icy from the steady spray of hail, but neither battler seems to mind the heavy hailstones pelting down on them. However, as Helium squints down worriedly at her foe, she's dismayed to see that the Froslass’s form has grown blurry and indistinct through the icy downpour. Her natural camouflage has kicked in, and the hail is providing her with cover.

Zero wearily looks up at her foe, but the Delibird doesn't seem to have any intentions of flying down just yet. Zero waves her hands, and a shimmer of translucent green energy forms a protective dome around her. Helium manages to catch sight of the distinctive green glow through the barrage of hail, and she takes that as her cue to back off for now. She tries her best to chill out and regain some much needed energy, but it’s a tricky task when you’re trying to remain aloft at the same time. She slows down her flapping slightly, and tries to slow down her breathing as she allows herself to relax a little. Zero keeps a close eye on the Delibird as she sees her lose some height, but she doesn’t drop down fair enough for the ghost to get a hit in. After a few moments of tense silence, Zero grits her teeth and gradually lets the shield drop.

Helium gives a weary sigh as she peers down at her foe, and she instantly goes on the alert as she sees the protective glow fade away. The small break she had didn’t feel like anywhere near enough, but she can’t miss her chance to end this fight. She’s disappointed however, when she sees a bright orange aura flare up around the stationary Froslass, crackling brightly through the icy haze of hail. Helium risks flying a little closer to try and see how Zero is holding up, but she can only make out a blurry, indistinct shape behind the orange glow. Still, judging by how bright it is, Helium doesn’t hold out any hope of getting a shot in. She gives a deep sigh, then tries her best to take another uncomfortable breather. She slows down her flapping again, and closes her eyes as she tries to regain some much needed energy.

Zero gives off a frustrated snarl as she lets the shimmering glow around her fade away, and her concentration lapses. She's getting tired of playing defensive, but she's left with little choice. At least she can take solace in the fact that her opponent is in just as poor shape as she is. She peers up at the little bird flapping high above, and Helium returns her gaze as she awaits the ghost to make a move. Zero glowers, then spreads out her arms, forming another protective dome around herself. It flickers and wavers for a moment, and Zero clenches her fists as she tries to stabilize it and not fall into a blind panic. She lets out a breathless sigh of relief as the green glow gradually becomes more sturdy, and takes shelter behind the protective barrier. Helium glares at the green light shining through the onslaught of hail, and repeats the same process as before. She's growing more anxious by the second, and all this stalling is really setting her nerves on edge.

Battle notes

- OK, maybe next round....
- It was difficult for Helium to chill while remaining aloft, so she restored half as much energy as normal.
- Chasse-neige, performed by Berezovsky. The effect is that the weather is changed to Hail, and Powder Snow falls on the battlers for each of the three actions, inflicting them with damage. (Chasse-neige translates to "snowplow")
- bulbasaur attacks first.

Well. This is quite the situation. Seems like this battle will end in a draw next round no matter what.

;_; what do

So, since both Pokémon will get knocked out before they can do anything, we're going into a sudden death round.

Negrek said:
Instead, you might as well just set up the next round for sudden death: both pokémon at 10% health and 20% energy, returned to normal status (no stat boosts or status effects, etc), cancelling all prolonged effects (delibird stops flying), all songs ceased, they PM their commands to you rather than posting in the thread.

RespectTheBlade said:
Okay, Zero. sudden death. I want you to first hit Helium with a blizzard, and then follow up with ice shard for the remaining two turns. On the first turn, attack only if you will move first. if not, protect. On the remaining turns, attack only if you will knock him out. If you can't attack first/KO, then Protect, Endure, then protect again.

Blizzard/Protect ~ Ice Shard/Endure ~ Ice Shard/Protect

bulbasaur said:
If Froslass Protects/Endures during the first action, Fly (Up) as your first action

If Frosslass Protects/Endures the first action and doesn't or fails for the second, Quick Attack+Fly (strike) for your second action.

If Froslass successfully Protects/Endures during both the first and second actions, Chill as your second action and Fly (strike) as your third action.

If Froslass does not Protect or Endure during the first action:

Quick Attack + Fly ~ Fly

In Summary:

Quick Attack+Fly/Fly (Up) ~ Fly/Quick Attack+Fly (strike)/Chill~Fly (strike)/ (No actions left if combo executed)

After a few minutes of silence, Helium and Zero awkwardly stare around in confusion, wondering where the music went. The crowd mutters among themselves as they wonder what's going on, while Helium and Zero stare at each other blankly. The referee steps forward with a microphone to explain the sudden death situation, and both dumbfounded battlers are quickly whisked away.

The crowd stirs restlessly as they wait for things to recommence, but they aren't left hanging for long. Blade and bulbasaur lead their Pokémon back to the stage again, a look of grim determination on their faces as they rethink their battle plans. Zero and Helium look more focused now too, if a little twitchy.

Round seven

As the referee signals for the fight to resume, Zero and Helium quickly turn to face each other, each one feeling like a bundle of nerves. Zero stares over at her foe, watching her movements closely, while Helium returns her gaze. The Delibird can't help jumping a little when her opponent abruptly spreads out her arms, but the movement ultimately turns out to be defensive. Green energy flickers to life around Zero, coating her in a shimmering dome. Helium irritably scolds herself for being so jumpy, then hastily runs through her course of action. Upon seeing the familiar glow of the protective shield, she grimly takes to the air once again. She frantically flaps her stubby wings until she ascends back to the roof of the hall, then hovers there and peers down at her foe.

Zero clenches her fist as she sees Helium take off, then gradually lets her wasted shield drop. She squints up at the little red bird, trying to remain as alert as possible. The crowd isn’t making it too easy though; they’re getting pretty excited about the whole sudden death situation, and they’re frantically calling out cheers of encouragement. Zero closes her eyes as she tries to focus on blocking out all the distracting sounds, and a bright aura of orange energy flares up around her. She crouches down and takes a defensive stance as she braces herself for any incoming blows. Helium tensely watches the glowing form of her opponent down below, but it doesn't look like she's a vulnerable target right now. The Delibird gives a sigh, then slows down her flapping slightly as she tries to take a small breather.

As Zero's eyes snap open again, the burning aura surrounding her slowly fizzles out. She scowls and uprights herself again, trying not to let her agitation get the best of her. She's very tired of all the stalling by this point, and her nerves are becoming more frayed by the second. She peers up anxiously at Helium, then waves her hands idly as she prepares to create another shield. The green dome flickers into life around her.... then immediately starts to fade away again. Zero's eyes widen in panic, and she quickly begins struggling to stabilize the creation, furiously cursing her luck all the while.

Her situation doesn't go unnoticed by Helium, and the Delibird snaps to attention as soon as she sees the flickering light of Zero's dying shield. Helium takes a deep breath, then plunges downward and hopes for the best. She streams towards Zero like a missile, and the Froslass is so focused on trying to strengthen her shield that she doesn't notice the danger until it's too late. Zero gives a muffled shriek as Helium slams into her, sending her flying across the stage. The Delibird flaps about clumsily before she regains her balance, then anxiously peers over at the fallen Froslass. Zero gives a feeble groan, and shakily raises her arm, before slowly letting it fall. There is a few moments of tense silence, which is suddenly broken by the sound of the referee's voice.

"Zero is unable to battle! Helium is the winner!"

An enormous cheer erupts from the crowd when Byrus finishes speaking, and the shocked Delibird is left staring dumbly at the roaring humans before her. The shock is soon replaced by delight however, as she realises her victory. She gives a happy squawk and flaps her wings madly as she eagerly runs to greet her equally delighted trainer. Blade gives a sigh as he returns Zero, and praises her on putting forth such a good effort. Both trainers meet in the middle of the stage to shake hands, then give a few bows to the enthusiastic audience as the lights begin to dim.

Good game, RTB! I had to admit, this was the closest battle I've ever been in, and I was kept on my toes the entire time, with one round thinking that victory was certainly mine, and the next round believing that I would be gone for sure. Thank you, Byrus, for being an excellent referee, and thank you, RTB, for being an excellent opponent. I hope we meet again.
