Every action there is a 10% chance any pokemon in the battle will become poisoned by radiation. If they are already poisoned, there is a 10% chance it will increase in severity. If it doesn't increase in severity, it can fade like normal (according to the ref/RNG). Obviously, poison and steel types are immune to this.

Pathos's active squad

[Chelsie] Togepi (M) Serene Grace @ Shiny Stone

[Corky] Ekans (M) Shed Skin @ Black Sludge

[Zerzin] Magnemite (X) Magnet Pull @ Brightpowder

Signature move: Magnet Drain

Zerzin can feel whether there are any electrical or magnetic (steel) type Pokémon on the arena with his Magnet Pull ability. If there are, he will choose one (or his trainer will), and then he will either pull the other Pokémon to itself or, if they weigh more then Zerzin, Zerzin will be pulled (gently, of course) to them. Thanks to his ability, this is unavoidable; he will see through double team clones or other accuracy changes, the exception to this being if the pokemon is impossible to reach (underground, etc.) Once he reaches the other Pokémon, Zerzin will attach himself to them with an electrical current; he is almost impossible to remove (read below). While he is attached to a Pokémon, he will suck energy or health (whichever he is commanded) and take half of the energy/health for himself.

Zerzin can be removed in a number of ways; attacks that would make it hard for him to remain attached, or attacks that would disrupt the electrical current connecting him to the targeted pokemon, would likely disconnect him.

If the targeted Pokémon has the ability Static, x1.5 energy/health will be drained (rounded up).

If Zerzin falls asleep or becomes frozen while sucking energy/health, he will remain attached to the targeted Pokémon but will no longer be sucking energy/health (and the targeted Pokémon will not lose health/energy, either).

Zerzin will remain attached to the targeted Pokémon even if it's Flying, Digging, Diving, or Bouncing.

While Zerzin is attached to his targeted Pokémon, he cannot attack any other Pokémon. However, he can use attacks other then Magnet Drain on the target Pokémon as long as they are physically possible.

Type: Electric ~ Base Power: 3% ~ Energy: 3% ~ Accuracy: 100% ~ Target: Single ~ Duration: One action to find and attach to target; Zerzin remains attached until removed.

Effects: Zerzin locates any electric/steel types on the field and attaches itself to them, then drains 3% energy/health (rounded up).

Usage Gap: 5 rounds from being disconnected.

I'll send out Lillipup and Venomoth.

Lillipup, start out with Thunder Wave on Alec. Next, use Yawn on him. End it by making a 20% substitute. If you are taunted, replace your moves with Thunderbolt on Alec. If they protect (or stop your moves any other way), use Work Up instead.

Thunder wave (Alec)/Thunderbolt (Alec)/Work Up ~ Yawn (Alec)/Thunderbolt (Alec)/Work Up ~ Substitute (20%)/Thunderbolt (Alec)/Work Up

Venomoth, they resist a lot of your moves, but tinted lens should be a saving grace to us here. Start with Sleep Powder on Zerzin, then Bug Buzz on Zerzin twice. If you are taunted out of Sleep Powder, use Bug Buzz. If they protect against your attacks, use Quiver Dance.

Sleep Powder (Zerzin)/Bug Buzz (Zerzin) ~ Bug Buzz (Zerzin)/Quiver Dance ~ Bug Buzz (Zerzin)/Quiver Dance

Alrighty then. We're gonna coordinate you both. Zerzin, float over in front of Alec, and Alec, make sure you stay behind Zerzin; in fact, cling to his magnets and just hang on. Zerzin, make sure you're facing lillipup, so that you can take that thunder wave head-on for Alec. I also want you to Magic Coat that sleep powder and get the venomoth asleep. Do not magic coat the thunder wave. While you're behind Zerzin, I want you to set up a Tailwind, Alec. If you can't delay your magic coat to reflect the sleep powder, Zerzin, Protect to shield yourself and Alec instead. Or, alternatively, if the sleep powder misses altogether, set up your Light Screen now.

Now you two can separate. You don't seem to have eyes, Alec, but... close your eyes and Fly up at the beginning of the action, then open them up I guess and fly and down at the end after she's yawned, and hit the lillipup. Then Snatch either the substitute or the work up, whichever it uses.

Zerzin, if the venomoth is asleep, float over and Zap Cannon in their face, then set up a communal Light Screen for yourself and Alec. If they aren't, Role Play and grab that tinted lens, then light screen regardless. Unless you already have a light screen up, then Thunderbolt the lillipup.

Alec: Get behind Zerzin + Tailwind ~ Close Eyes + Fly @ Lillipup ~ Snatch @ Lillipup

Zerzin: Shield Alec + Magic Guard / Protect / Light Screen ~ Zap Cannon @ Venomoth / Role Play @ Venomoth ~ Light Screen / Thunderbolt @ lillipup

If it doesn't increase in severity, it can fade like normal (according to the ref/RNG). Obviously, poison and steel types are immune to this.

Years ago, this was the site of one of the worst nuclear accidents known to mankind. The entire city was destroyed, flushing out the human population, and the meltdown made headlines across the globe. Even today, radiation levels are high enough that people by and large stay away, giving the local wildlife a chance to flourish. Steel- and electric-type pokémon glance out from under the shadows of the greenery, and poison-types raise their heads at an unexpected disturbance.

With the usual Asberian disregard for safety and common sense, two trainers and a referee (at least, these are their roles today) stroll across a dirt path until they near the centre of the accident, a collapsed building not far from the tower. It is possible this is the worst possible location for them, but none of the three seem to care. They take their positions on the battlefield. The referee pulls out a list of their allowed pokémon—with a minor correction by Pathos—and declares the attack order.

Pathos casually tosses two poké balls onto the field, and each ball spits a shape floating above the ground. A zubat shakes the light off his wings, but it seems for a moment that his metal companion has captured the light into a permanent brilliant sheen. But, as the magnemite moves, it becomes obvious that it’s simply the sunlight reflecting off flakes that must be embedded in its armour.

Lucas glances over the two, showing no reaction to the contrast between Zerzin’s brilliance and the eerie aura clinging to Alec and his fluttering cape, and releases his own pokémon. Lillipup appears with a cheerful bark, while Venomoth remains calmer, merely observing his opponents.

Lillipup blinks, then realises to her horror that Zerzin is sparkling in the sunlight. Who even does that?

She might have been more eager to see Zerzin in a broken, burning heap by the end of the battle if not for the fluttering at the edge of their fields of vision. Alec flies in a circle, but the wispy black cloth tied to his neck flutters as though carried on its own breeze, completely unaffected by the winds of this world. Lillipup shivers and chances a glance at her more experienced partner. It’s hard to tell with Venomoth, but Lillipup thinks that he, too, is eying Alec anxiously. At least she’s not alone in that—the bat is creepy.

So she’s not pleased when she’s told to pay attention to, and target, Alec for most of the round. Then again, she’d be keeping an eye on him throughout this anyway, because she doesn’t want him to sneak up on her or anything, and at least she doesn’t have to get near him.

Venomoth, for his part, is perfectly fine with targeting Zerzin this round, as it’s a rare opportunity for a bug to prove himself against steel.

Pathos, though, doesn’t intend to make it easy, and orders both of his pokémon to help each other, at least at first. If Zerzin is at all reluctant to take a potentially-crippling hit for its teammate, it doesn’t show it. It spares a second to glare at Lillipup, then its eye settles on Venomoth.

Alec, meanwhile, is relieved to avoid paralysis, as difficulty flying would leave him all but helpless. And, more importantly, he can avenge the attempt without any harm to himself. Alec bares his fangs at Lillipup, his cape billowing behind him. Lillipup shifts, glaring, though she wonders if Alec does not in fact have eyes.

Even as Zerzin floats toward Alec to protect him from harm, its concentration is elsewhere. It waits, poised to shoot off a magic coat in what might be a split second between a thin bolt of electricity and a blast of powder in its face, when it sees that Venomoth is already moving toward it, much faster than Lillipup’s trot toward them. Zerzin blinks, surprised—it had assumed, from what its trainer said, that this wouldn’t be the case—then quickly focuses until a thin layer of shimmering energy covers it, making it even shinier than before.

Venomoth’s wings, too, glitter in the sunlight, and with a forceful flap of its wings, releases a cloud of dust meant to cover Zerzin. However, to Venomoth’s chagrin, the cloud of powder misses entirely and slowly settles on the floor. It doesn’t even have the good grace to accidentally hit the magnemite’s partner, either. Of course, he’s not the only one annoyed by this; Zerzin stares at the thinning cloud still low over the ground and ponders rolling in it. It doesn’t know if this will do anything, or if it would have to breathe in the powder through means it doesn’t have in order to manage what its trainer wants, but it’s too late to do anything now. And Lillipup is still coming toward it, with an alert expression on her face; it doesn’t see her producing any electricity yet, but can it drop the magical coating before she gets off a quick jolt? A thunder wave takes no time at all, in its experience, at least. It should have predicted this, somehow. This was such a waste of time, when it could have freed up an action to start causing harm, and now…?

Lillipup has similar concerns. Though Alec isn’t much faster than she is, he was much closer to Zerzin at the start, and he’s already gotten close enough to use his companion as a shield, even clinging to Zerzin’s magnets with his legs. When she tries walking around them, Zerzin just turns on the spot, and she quickly realises she’s not going to get anywhere. It doesn’t mean a thunder wave is right out, because paralysing a sparkling ball could also be helpful, but she’s pretty sure that thing coating it is going to interfere with her attack.

While she considers this, Alec adjusts his hold on Zerzin’s magnets, then flaps his wings. He calls on the air around him to move with the air he’s manually pushing, if only for a little while, and feels the air comply. A wind begins to blow from behind them with an unknown source. Still, Alec’s cape flutters as though the wind is blowing into his front instead, as though it inhabits its own ethereal realm.

But it doesn’t matter, Lillipup tells herself. None of it matters. It’s just a cloth, probably not even doing anything, and it’s not going to mean anything to her. You know why? Because she’s awesome, and she can do this. She doesn’t need sparkles to feel pretty, or a cape to feel cool. She’s got all those qualities already. You know why? Because she’s Lillipup. Hell yeah!

The unnatural light fades from Zerzin’s body, though it’s still as shiny as ever.

Alright, Venomoth decides, so putting Zerzin to sleep didn’t work. But he knows that what he intends to do next won’t fail, even if it’s difficult to look at Zerzin due to the random spots of brilliance on its body. It briefly concentrates, then vibrates its wings as fast as it can. All of the pokémon hear a low whine as his wings quicken. Zerzin, placed in an unfortunate location where the sonic waves crash through its body, feels the full effects. It vibrates with the sound waves, dislodging Alec more quickly than the zubat himself could manage. Alec himself shakes with the blast, his sensitive ears ringing even as he flies out of the way.

Alec shakes off the buzzing and, remembering that he’ll be the target of another thing he wishes to avoid, quickly shoots up through the sky, too high for the others to reach.

Zerzin eyes Venomoth, shaking its magnets as though it would get rid of the buzzing noise. But, though Venomoth interprets it as a glare for harming it, Zerzin’s thinking of something far more complex. It focuses on Venomoth to determine everything the massive insect is doing, the way he flies and how he moves. The way he attacked, Zerzin can tell, is something different than usual, and that’s what it wants to mimic most. Forget that it’s a magnet. This is far more important. He tries bulging out his eye (a futile attempt), and flutters his magnets like wings. Then, quietly, he emits a hum of his own, though it sounds entirely unlike Venomoth’s buzzing.

Meanwhile, Lillipup stares up after her opponent. Okay, so obviously her attack’s not going to reach, so what she has to do is… just remind herself of how epic she is, right? Because for all his eerie-ghost-like posturing, that stupid bat is a coward. She can totally tell that he was running away from her, hiding out of reach only because he knows he can’t face up to her. She wags her tail, pumped up and ready to go. She stares at Alec as though she dares him to come back down here.

Alec promptly does so, angling back down and smacking into her large head. She yelps, stumbling backward, and glares at him. He circles above her once, snickering, but at least he doesn’t fly off and out of the way again. Instead, he glows with a black aura, and continues circling her, as though waiting.

It takes a moment for Venomoth to realise that Zerzin’s trying to be him, and it’s not an entirely flattering portrayal, although that might just be because Zerzin doesn’t have the means to do so. Well then, Zerzin will come to regret that. Venomoth vibrates his wings once again, and this time Zerzin is the only one taking the full brunt of the attack. Waves of sound crash through it, shaking everything inside and sending vibrations through its outer shell. This time, though, it staggers as its magnets flutter, slightly off-balance, and only recovers once it can right its magnets again.

Well then, Zerzin decides, he won’t let that happen again. At least, not like that. He focuses once again, ready to protect both itself and his teammate, but this time, the only required sacrifice is a bit of energy. Walls of light almost as brilliant as Zerzin himself appear around them.

Lillipup then concentrates on drawing out her energy. She’s ready to shape it into a doll in order to protect herself, but before she can tap into her own life energy, something black lashes out at her and draws back into Alec’s aura. Lillipup blinks, suddenly finding her concentration gone. She whines and looks around for the source, when she sees something odd.

As though not entirely in control of himself, Alec carves out a chunk of his life energy and pushes it out in a blob of toxic purple goop. He spits it out, but before it can fall, buffets it with his wings. The wind itself pats the goop into shape, and it quickly solidifies into a childish imitation of a zubat. Still, the life-size doll seems to have no problem flapping its wings to keep close to Alec, which it does as though its life depends on it.

Why does moth still have tinted lens?

Renyhow. Alec, let go of your reaper cloth (or maybe try and toss it at lillipup, heh) and set up a Haze to rid that lillipup of those stat-ups. It'll also rid moth of its lowered attack, but it's worth it. If your opponents are commanded to defog or use a wind-attack (gust, air cutter, w/e), skip the haze and Acrobatics whoever isn't protecting instead (if neither is protecting, go for venomoth). Try setting up a Haze whenever they're not commanded to use a move that will counter it; when they are, use Acrobatics on venomoth, or if he's protecting, on lillipup.

After you've set up the haze (even if it's gone almost immediately), start using Acrobatics on moth. If whoever you're trying to hit has set up clones, use Air Slash and make it widespread to strike through them all.

Alec: Drop Reaper Cloth + Haze / Acrobatics / Air Slash ~ Haze / Acrobatics / Air Slash x2

Zerzin! Magic Coat any status moves (to you or Alec), Thunder Wave moth first chance you get (and if you got him, go after lillipup), and Thunderbolt otherwise (anyone who isn't protecting, preferably lillipup). Don't try and thunder wave anyone who has a substitute or clones. If they have clones, thunderbolt, but make it wide-spread to shock through the clones; if they have a sub, just thunderbolt.

Zerzin: Magic Coat / Thunder Wave / Thunderbolt x3

Venomoth, start with a Psychic to whittle down Alec's Substitute. After that, use Psychic to hurl Zerzin as far as you can. If he's still gone by the time you can perform your next action, use Stun Spore on Alec. If he's there and ready to protect Alec, just pretend to use Stun Spore, forcing Zerzin to use Magic Coat, but really Bug Buzz them both.

Psychic (Alec) ~ Psychic (Zerzin) ~ Stun Spore (Alec)/Bug Buzz (both)

Alright, Lillipup, let's break that substitute! Use Thunderbolt on Alec. Secondly, wait for Venomoth to throw Zerzin with his mind; immediately after that, use Yawn on Alec. If Zerzin ends up not getting thrown, just use another Thunderbolt on Alec. End it by making a 15% substitute, for yourself this time!

Round two

Somewhat reluctantly, Alec drops his fantastically creepy cloth, and it flutters eerily to the ground. Alec then opens his mouth and spews out a thick and cloying purple fog that quickly engulfs all the battlers. Lillipup whimpers as the clammy fog creeps around her, and suddenly feels her newfound confidence draining away. Urgh, she thought she’d find the Zubat less creepy when he dropped the cloth, but of course he had to do some other creepy thing to make up for it.

In stark contrast to his partner, Venomoth actually feels his confidence returning even as he’s surrounded in the chilly haze. Ha, does that pesky bat actually think this stuff is supposed to unnerve him? Yeah right. He flaps forward, ready to put his psychic abilities to use, when Zerzin suddenly breezes past him, riding along on the ends of the tailwind. Venomoth glares at the Magnemite as he realises its still making that stupid buzzing sound as it tries to imitate him. That’s not what he sounds like dammit.

Sparks begin to surround Zerzin’s small form, and he quickly fires off a small pulse of electricity to jolt the irritated looking bug. Venomoth gives a startled cry and writhes about as the current crackles around his body and causes his muscles to cramp up. He can feel panic setting in as he begins to descend, and he beats his wings frantically as he struggles to remain airborne. He gradually manages to pull up again, but his flight is much less graceful than it was before, and his movements are jerky and awkward.

Glowering at Zerzin, Venomoth reluctantly turns his attention to Alec, and he reaches out towards the poison type with a wave of psychic energy, ready to launch an attack on his mind. He quickly finds that Alec’s mind is firmly blocked off by the gloopy substitute hovering beside him, so he’s forced to redirect his efforts to the doppelganger instead. The faux Zubat freezes in place as Venomoth begins to glow with a purple aura, and it begins to twitch and writhe madly in the air and as its form is battered by the wave of psychic power.

Lillipup is still looking somewhat crestfallen, but she manages to pick out Alec fluttering away in the cloying fog, and grimly sets about attacking him. Her fur begins to stand on end as the static builds up, which she then unleashes at Alec in a crackling bolt of electricity. The thunderbolt streams towards its target, but dims down noticeably in size and strength as it passes through the glittering light screen. Alec’s substitute reacts immediately, and it dives into the path of the incoming bolt, allowing itself to be ravaged by the sparks. When the last of the thunderbolt fizzles away, Alec’s substitute is in dire shape; it barely looks like a Zubat anymore, it just looks like a dripping mass of sludge with wings.

The breeze blowing behind Zerzin and Alec slowly fades away, leaving them both feeling a bit disappointed. Venomoth struggles to get himself moving, but can’t take advantage of his opponent’s loss of speed thanks to his locked up muscles.

As the moth writhes about, Alec flutters forward, then suddenly performs some fancy loops through the air and dives straight into the bug, battering at it with his wings. Venomoth gives a cry of pain as Alec bashes into him repeatedly while showing off some fancy wing-work, and he frantically tries to get away. Alec gives a toothy grin as he backs off, and loops around in the air, feeling surprisingly free and light with the absence of his reaper cloth.

Lillipup looks over at her flailing partner with concern. She’s not used to out-speeding the agile moth, but she needs to wait for him to make his move before she can act.
While she anxiously shifts about, Zerzin takes the opportunity to attack, and with a twitch of its magnets, it sends another small jolt of sparks hurtling forward. This time, Lillipup is the target of its thunder wave, and she gives a yelp of pain as the current of paralyzing sparks take a hold of her. She whimpers as she struggles to stand up again, but her muscles lock up completely on her and she just thumps back helplessly onto the ruined ground.

Venomoth has no time to worry about Lillipup’s current condition however, as he’s too busy concentrating on another psychic attack. He’s feeling somewhat battered and uncomfortable, but he manages to reach out towards Zerzin with his mind, and grabs hold of it with an invisible grip. Zerzin emits a startled beep and wriggles madly in the air as its body begins to glow with an eerie purple aura identical to Venomoth. It takes quite a bit of effort, but Venomoth manages to send Zerzin hurtling through the air with his psychic power, and the Magnemite emits a loud beep of shock as its flung far back into the ruins.

Pleased with his work, Venomoth turns expectedly to Lillipup, but his team mate isn’t able to follow up on her end of the strategy; she’s completely seized up and whimpering pitifully. Venomoth glances over at her with concern and silently curses the irritating magnet for ruining things again.

Alec flits about worriedly, trying to sense where his partner has got to. He doesn’t have time to dwell on it however, as his foes have got their eyes on him. He quickly dives towards Venomoth again, giving some loops and twirls as he flies to increase his momentum, then bashes into the bug again. Venomoth gives another cry of pain as Alec repeatedly loops about with some complex moves and hits him with his wings again and again. By the time the Zubat ceases his acrobatic assault, Venomoth is left fluttering limply in the air, looking heavily battered and shocked.

Venomoth gingerly rises up a little higher, and tries to ignore the pain of his wounds as he focuses on his orders. The meddling magnet is still visible in the distance, but he's zooming back over to the fray quickly, so Venomoth takes the chance while he can. Hoping his body won't lock up at such an opportune moment, Venomoth rapidly flutters his aching wings, and sends a fine, orange powder drifting towards Alec. He's dismayed however, when Alec's half-dead substitute harmlessly absorbs the dust into its sludgy body with a gross gurgling sound. Venomoth gives a cry of frustration as Alec gives a wide, toothy grin. Argh, how is that stupid thing still standing?!

Adding to Venomoth's problems, Zerzin floats back towards its partner, emitting a series of indignant beeps and buzzes. It will certainly not be gotten rid of that easily. Sparks begin to crackle around its form as it wriggles it magnets, and it sends a bolt of electricity streaming towards Lillipup. She's rudely jolted back to her feet again as the powerful current surges through her, causing her to howl in pain.

When the thunderbolt fizzles away, she's left feeling somewhat frazzled and sore, but miraculously, she finds that her body is responding again. Feeling sore but relieved, Lillipup begins to have another go at making herself a substitute. The surrounding debris and earth around her begin to spring to life, melding together to form the crude shape of a Lillipup. She gives a small nod, then bestows the creation with some of her life force, and the empty eyes of the substitute suddenly begin to glow with a soft white light. As her new doppelganger steps forward, Lillipup quickly hides behind it, drawing comfort from its presence. The horribly clammy haze that shrouded the ruined battlefield has faded away too, which helps somewhat.

Alec's reaper cloth lies discarded in the ruins. The haze has mostly faded away.

Battle notes

- Light screen halves special attacks. I also have paralysis halve a Pokemon's base speed, so Venomoth is currently even with Zerzin right now (45).
- Venomoth used extra energy to fling Zerzin, and it allowed him to act before it on the next action while Zerzin returned to the battle.
- Lucas755 attacks first.

Let's try something. Both of you, use Round. However, Venomoth, I want you to wait for Lillipup to start the Round first, so that yours can be double-powered, powered by the tinted lens, and have zerzin's resistance nullified. If they both protect in the same action, Lillipup switch to Work Up, and Venomoth switch to Quiver Dance.

Venomoth:

Round (wait for Lillipup)/Quiver Dance x3

Lillipup:

Round/Work Up x3

Alright then! Alec, Torment lillipup. Since venomoth has to wait for him to act, on the second action, I expect nothing to happen, or at least a delayed Round. If Torment doesn't work through subs, and if you don't know whether it does or doesn't, just switch to Heat Wave to be safe. Then! Whether or not lillipup is tormented, fly up right up close to venomoth and hypnosis as close as you can to them. Finally, Acrobatics on lillipup's sub, or Hypnosis again if it failed before.

Zerzin! Protect if Alec uses heat wave, otherwise add to the Round, obviously waiting till the end of the action so it's fully powered. Then begin to destroy that substitute, go ahead and Thunderbolt it to death, obviously switch to the real lillipup if the sub dies.

Alec: Torment @ lillipup / Heat Wave ~ Hypnosis @ venomoth ~ Hypnosis @ venomoth / Acrobatics @ lillipup

Zerzin: Protect / Round ~ Thunderbolt @ lillipup x2

Also Byrus thank you very much for reffing! <333

Round three

Before his opponents can get a word in, Alec swoops down in front of Lillipup's field of vision, and begins to jeer and laugh at her. Lillipup tries to turn away, but Alec doggedly pursues her, really getting her in face as he mocks her awful battling skills and pitiful attempts at tactics. Absolutely no originality at all!
Lillipup can’t help cowering down under Alec’s nasty tirade, losing what little confidence she managed to gain. Not only is that Zubat creepy, but he’s mean too…

Venomoth has little sympathy for his partner’s predicament – he’s in a lot of pain and his patience is wearing thin. Lillipup jumps a bit when Venomoth nudges her, and she manages to pull herself together again; for the moment at least. Trying to ignore Alec’s harsh words, Lillipup takes a deep breath, and gives off a series of loud barking that reverberates throughout the ruined grounds. It’s loud enough to pack some punch behind the sound waves, though its volume dims down considerably as it passes through Zerzin’s sparkling shield. Alec's substitute spreads out its gloopy, misshapen wings as it shields it creator from the blast, and it's left looking even more of a mess than it was before.

There’s a clear melody behind Lillipup’s barking too, and despite his discomfort, Venomoth finds himself perking up a little upon hearing the inspiring song. He stretches out his stiff wings and rises his crested head, then begins to emit a loud, buzzing hum, which follows a clear tune of his own. The sound waves are much more impressive than Lillipup’s, and they fiercely blast against Zerzin’s barrier. Zerzin is bowled over by the blast, but Alec's ruined substitute uses the last of its strength to once again shield its creator. The impact proves to be the last straw, and the weakened sub disintegrates into a formless pile of poisonous sludge.

Although shaken, Zerzin rebounds surprisingly quickly from the barrage of sound, and even seems to draw some inspiration of its own from the symphony. The Magnemite waves its magnets enthusiastically, and sends out a booming series of sound waves of its own. The melody is harsh - like metal grinding against metal, and it sends Venomoth flapping backwards in pain. Lillipup's substitute stands protectively in front of her, and allows itself to be shaken up by the powerful wave of sound. Chunks of debris fall from its body as it's jarred from side to side, and it's swiftly turned into a crumbling mess.

Venomoth feebly flaps upwards again, and wearily looks over at his partner for some more inspiration. Unfortunately, she doesn’t appear to be in the state of mind for providing it. Alec really seems to have gotten to Lillipup, and she’s now too wrapped up in his words to even contemplate attacking. She’s standing with her head bowed and her tail between her legs, whimpering quietly.

Venomoth flaps his wings in agitation, and calls out a few desperate words of encouragement to try and egg Lillipup on. The Magnemite's light screen has faded; they've got a great opportunity here! He doesn’t get very far though, before a disgruntled Alec flutters in front of his field of vision, seemingly determined to aggravate him further. The bat bares his fangs, and flits about in the air, seemingly moving to some rhythm of his own. Normally, Venomoth would just dismiss this nonsense, but to his surprise, he finds himself completely unable to look away. The Zubat’s body is glowing with a strange, purple aura, and the waves of psychic energy he’s sending are making Venomoth feel drowsy…

Venomoth tries to tear his gaze away, but the soft, purple glow is strangely inviting, and he finds himself completely captivated by it. The beat of his wings gradually begins to slow as he feels himself drifting off, and he quickly begins losing altitude.
Alec grins as Venomoth drops gracelessly to the ground, emitting a loud, buzzing snore as he falls. The bug lands on the ground with a thump and a startled Lillipup is jarred from her thoughts as her partner lands next to her. She gives a few frantic yips of concern, but the slumbering Venomoth is completely unresponsive.

As Lillipup frantically circles around Venomoth, Zerzin quickly floats towards her, and static crackles around its magnets as it charges up electricity. Zerzin gives off a metallic buzzing sound, and fires off a crackling bolt of electricity, which streams straight towards its foe. Lillipup’s sub suddenly springs to life as it senses the danger, and it leaps forward to take the attack, allowing itself to be shocked by the vicious current of electricity. When the sparks fade, nothing is left of the sub but a sad little pile of dust and dirt.

As Lillipup looks at the remains of her substitute in dismay, Alec zooms forward, looping enthusiastically through the air, and dives straight at her. He bashes into her, pummelling at her mercilessly with his wings. Lillipup gives a muffled woof as each strikes lands, and she's left lying in an undignified heap as a snickering Alec flaps away.

Lillipup groans and painfully staggers back to her feet. She feels horribly alone now, and can’t help but feel intimidated by the relentlessness of her two opponents. Worse still, her muscles are still as stiff and painful as ever. As she nervously moves closer to her sleeping team-mate, Zerzin moves forward again, still giving the occasional buzz as he tries to maintain his Venomoth impression. Lillipup backs away fearfully as it sends another bolt of electricity crackling towards her, and she gives a yelp of pain as she’s shocked by the powerful current.

Lillipup winces and struggles to ignore the pain of her wounds as she attempts to face up to her opponents again. With a quick, nervous glance at her sleeping team-mate, she lets loose another chorus of loud barking, trying to sound more confident than she feels. The sound waves batter against Zerzin and Alec, pushing them both back. They both recover quickly however, and Lillipup is left feeling more overwhelmed than ever.

Zerzin, first off, Protect. Then Swagger at lillipup and Thunderbolt, same target. If he protects at any point, Chill and move your command to the next action, aside from protect.

Zerzin: Protect ~ Swagger @ Lillipup / Chill ~ Swagger @ Lillipup / Thunderbolt @ Lillipup / Chill

Alec! First, I want you to fly over and lay down in between venomoth's wings. Get in real snug. And then Heat Wave. After that's done, I doubt moth will still be asleep, but I doubt he'll have his wings either. So we don't have to worry about him, really. So Fly up and Chill where you're unhittable.

Alec: Heat Wave ~ Fly ~ Chill

Lillipup, start out by using Yawn on Alec. Hopefully, he'll fly straight up into the air, only to fall back to the ground. After that, hit him with a couple of nice Facades. If he's somehow still up in the air, use Thunderbolt instead. Be sure to aim upward.

Venomoth... Yeah. Just use Sleep Talk until you wake up, and if you do, use as many Quiver Dances as possible.

Round four

Zerzin is the first to react this time, and the Magnemite hastily flicks its magnets, generating a shimmering dome of green energy around itself. Once he makes sure his team-mate is safe, Alec flies towards the slumbering Venomoth, then glides downward to delicately perch on the bug’s midsection. Venomoth twitches in his sleep and shifts around a little, but gradually relaxes again.

Alec breathes out, then begins flapping his wings, slowly at first, but gradually gaining speed. The light-weight Zubat nestled between his wings isn’t enough to shake Venomoth from his sleep, but the wave of superheated air Alec is generating is a different story. The moth emits a loud but sleepy sound buzz of pain as the boiling air begins to grow in strength, and he begins thrashing about violently. Alec nervously flutters up a little and thrusts his wings forward, sending the heat wave diffusing in around him.

Lillipup yelps and cowers down as the boiling hot air engulfs her, singeing her fur and leaving her breathless. The heat blasts fiercely against Zerzin’s shield, but the Magnemite remains floating calmly in the air, completely safe. The sleeping Venomoth gets the worst of the attack – his body is engulfed in the fiery air, badly singeing his wings and giving him a rude awakening. He leaps up with a sudden cry of pain, awkwardly scrambling about on the ground in a desperate bid to escape the blistering heat.

Eventually, Venomoth manages to right himself again, but is badly addled by pain and lingering drowsiness. He delicately tests his damaged wings, and is dismayed to find how painful it is to move them. Combined with the paralysis, it makes for a world of hurt, and Venomoth finds himself unable to do anything but flail desperately on the ground.

Lillipup looks at her team-mate’s poor condition in concern, wishing she could help him. Well, she can at least try and put the cause of his torment out of commission for a while.
She looks up at the smug Zubat fluttering above her, then gives a few frantic yips in hopes of attracting his attention. Alec flicks his ears and seems to look in her direction… although since he doesn’t even have eyes she doesn’t expect that would mean very much anyway. She decides to give it a go nevertheless; and opens her jaws in a wide yawn, with a subtle hint of hypnotic suggestion. Alec seems to slow down a little, and to her delight, he gives a big, sleepy yawn in return.

Alec frowns and shakes his head, wondering what caused that sudden feeling of drowsiness. That Lillipup’s yawn was strangely contagious apparently… He gives himself another shake, then flaps his wings rapidly, zooming high up into the air. Soon, he is leisurely drifting above the battle, out of reach of any of his opponents.

As Lillipup stares up at Alec, she is suddenly distracted by a loud and harsh sounding metallic noise emitted from Zerzin. She jumps a little and looks around in puzzlement as Zerzin continues to make the ear-hurting sound. It takes her a few moments to figure it out, but she suddenly realises that the Magnemite is laughing at her.

She stares at it in surprise, and upon seeing that its got her attention, Zerzin quickly launches into a boastful speech about just how amazing and wonderful it is.
Its voice is devoid of emotion, with a tinny, robotic quality to it, but there’s still something horribly obnoxious about its little speech, as well as the showy little flips it does in mid-air. As he goes on and on, Lillipup can feel her fear and reluctance gradually being replaced by indignant anger…. which might be a good thing, if it didn’t cause her to act recklessly.

Unfortunately, it does, and Lillipup gives a furious snarl at the bragging Zerzin, hardly able to believe a machine could be so unbearably smug. She charges forward, heedless of her current commands, and leaps up at Zerzin, snapping and snarling. Zerzin gives a beep, then hastily floats upwards, dodging Lillipup’s un-coordinated attack with ease, further enraging her. She leaps up again and again, but ultimately only succeeds in tripping over herself to land in a painful heap.

Venomoth doesn’t notice his partner’s embarrassing slip-up – he’s too busy with his own problems. His wings are aching and burning horribly, and he can’t help but feel panicky as he sees their former pale purple colour has been singed black. He strains to move them again, struggling against his locked up muscles, but they still refuse to respond. He isn't feeling quite so groggy anymore though, so he at least hopes he'll eventually manage to get moving. It's of little comfort right now though.

Up above, Alec is starting to feel a little panicky too. It’s taking an awful lot of effort to flap his wings, and he just can’t stop yawning. He frantically flits about and even gives himself a quick slaps with his wings, but to no avail. He finally succumbs to the drowsiness, and the snoring Zubat plummets to the ground.

Zerzin gives a loud beep of alarm as it sees its team-mate crash down next to it, and it quickly floats over to check on him. Alec is lying in a tangled heap, twitching and grimacing in his sleep. The fall certainly appears to have jarred him, but his involuntary slumber is very deep, and he remains sleeping, albeit quite fitfully.

Looking troubled, Zerzin hesitantly leaves his side, then glares over at the equally enraged Lillipup. Sparks crackle to life around Zerzin’s magnets as he charges up another thunderbolt, which he swiftly fires at the troublesome Lillipup. She gives a yelp of pain as she's again engulfed in the vicious current, and is left looking charred and frazzled.

Lillipup struggles to her feet, still managing a few angry but weakened sounding snarls as she tries to urge herself on. She sways on the spot, trying to focus, then suddenly locks onto Alec lying on the ground. She gives an angry bark, then charges forward, leaping over the heaps of debris as she makes a bee-line for her vulnerable opponent. She manages to stay in control this time, and she immediately begins to pummel the sleeping bat with all she's got, taking out all her anger over her current condition out on him.
Zerzin cringes as it helplessly watches Lillipup's furious assault, and it seems to take an age for her to finally back off.

She does eventually relent, and is left panting heavily from the effort, still looking extremely angry, but also extremely hurt. Her fur is badly singed from the repeated electrical attacks, as well as the heat wave, and she looks ready to kneel over. Her anger seems to be her main driving force at the moment, but it can only get her so far.
Amazingly, the battered Zubat is still sleeping after the vicious attack, but not quite as soundly as before. He's twitching frantically and uttering pained groans, as well as the occasional flutter of his wings.

Venomoth is also not looking good, and he can feel his frustration growing by the minute. He frantically flaps his ragged wings, and is relieved to finally see them responding. It's horribly painful and strenuous for him to take to the air again however, and he can feel himself panicking as he sees the pitiful height he manages. Nevertheless, he slowly and painfully flits about, hovering close to the ground as he focuses on drawing energy from the distant hive mind. It seems to take forever, but his body eventually begins to glow with a soft green aura, and he finally feels strength gradually flowing through him as the hive mind responds. He immediately halts his dance, and flutters down again to the ground, feeling simultaneously hopeful at his success, but also worried about how taxing it was too perform something that would normally come to him so easily.

Battle notes

- Venomoth took extra damage from the heat wave since he was so close to it. The attack also left his wings badly singed, so any moves requiring movement will cost a little extra energy (along with the paralysis). It's also going to be difficult for him to gain much altitude.
- Alec took some damage from his fall to the ground, though it also lessened the severity of his sleep.
- Lucas attacks first.

Lillipup, use Facade on Alec. If you're tormented, switch the second one to Thunderbolt. If he protects, use Work Up, and if he tries to Hypnotize you, protect, but not twice in a row.

Facade/Work Up/Protect/Thunderbolt x3:Alec

Venomoth, use Sleep Powder on Zerzin. If he protects or makes it impossible to hit him with it, use Psychic on Alec. Keep trying until he's asleep, unless he's behind a substitute. In that case, keep using Psychic on Alec. Finally, if Alec wakes up, ignore your command and use Sleep Powder on him.
Also, remember: if you're tormented, use a move you didn't just use.

Sleep Powder (Zerzin/Alec)/Psychic (Zerzin) x3

Just noting the four if-clauses for lillipup.

Alec, Sleep Talk until you wake up. I don't think that's supposed to be targeted, but if it is, target lillipup. When you do wake up, Acrobatics on lillipup until he goes down, then target venomoth.

Alec: Sleep Talk / Acrobatics @ lillipup / venomoth x3

Zerzin, Magic Coat the sleep powder. That shouldn't count as making it impossible to hit you, since you are being hit with it, you're just reflecting it back. If he resorts to psychic though, start Thunderbolting his wings just to torment him. If he's asleep, Thunderbolt lillipup until it faints, then target venomoth (same attack).

Round five

Slowly and shakily, the sleeping Zubat begins to take to the air, muttering incomprehensibly to himself. He flaps around somewhat drunkenly for a few moments, then suddenly dives towards Lillipup, his fangs bared and dripping with black strands of dark energy.

Lillipup gives a yelp of anger and pain as Alec sinks his fangs into her back and digs them in. Lillipup grits her teeth and flails about wildly, and she eventually manages to loosen the toothy Zubat’s grip, forcing him to dislodge himself. Alec makes a sleepy, garbled noise, then lurches backwards, fluttering erratically through the air. After a few more moments of sleep-flying, he gives a loud yawn, then slowly glides downwards to lie sprawled out on the ground again.

Venomoth carefully tests his wings by flapping them delicately, and tries not to cringe at the pain it causes. They are responding though, so at least the paralysis isn’t kicking in at the moment. He looks over at the Magnemite floating overhead, and can’t help but notice that it looks a bit shinier than usual. It makes him feel a little uneasy, but Zerzin appears to be just floating there passively, so he ploughs ahead.

He slowly begins to increase the speed of his flaps, bracing himself against the pain, and a fine, green cloud of spores begin to form from the powdery scales on his wings. With one last powerful flap, he sends the cluster of spores drifting towards Zerzin, and they surround the Magnemite in a green cloud. Zerzin makes a loud buzzing noise, and the strange, shimmering glow around it seems to grow even brighter. The spores linger lazily around it for a moment, then suddenly begin to drift away from it again. Venomoth stares in confusion as the green cloud makes it way back to him, and he gives a panicked buzz as he suddenly finds himself surrounded by his own spores. He tries not to breathe in, but it's all happened so quickly and unexpectedly, and he can already feel himself growing drowsy.

As Venomoth slumps down on the ground again, Lillipup gives a snarl of annoyance. Nothing seems to be going her way right now - she's aching all over, his partner is back in dream-land, and her current set of commands is giving her a headache. In the end, she decides to completely throw all caution to the wind, and charges towards the hateful Magnemite with an angry bark. Zerzin gives a beep of alarm as he hears her none-too-stealthy approach, and he floats up a little bit higher as she jumps up at him again. The results of her reckless attack are much the same as last time however, and she ends up tripping over her own feet in her haste to get to her target, landing flat on her face.

Alec begins to stir again, muttering and grumbling to himself as he rolls about on the ground. This time however, he awakens, yawning widely as he gives himself a quick shake to clear away the lingering drowsiness. He immediately takes to the air with a few lazy flaps of his wings, carefully scanning his surroundings to check what he’s missed out on. When he’s regained his bearings, he turns his attention to the addled and angry looking Lillipup, and deftly swoops towards her.

Alec does a few fancy loops and twirls, looking quite cheery now that he's back in the air again. Lillipup tries to track his swift movements, but only ends up feeling even more irritated, not to mention dizzy. She staggers forward, still snarling, though somewhat more feebly this time, and the twirling Alec abruptly dives towards her. The advancing Lillipup is immediately brought to a halt as Alec collides into her, then twirls and loops around to forcefully strike her again. Lillipup gives a yelp of pain and frustration, but it's abruptly cut off as Alec bashes into her one final time, and she is completely knocked off her feet.

As a triumphant Alec flutters away, Lillipup lifts her head and gives a feeble groan. She weakly lifts up a paw as she makes an effort to stand, but quickly drops it again. As the referee signals that she's out for the count, Lucas hastily zaps the defeated Lillipup back into her Pokéball.

Zerzin gives a happy beep as Lillipup disappears, pleased that it won't have her snapping at it again. It turns its single eye on the sleeping Venomoth, then sends a crackling jolt of electricity streaming towards him. Venomoth gives a sleepy cry of pain as the current runs through his body, and he slumps down limply on the ground, looking as charred as ever. His formerly peaceful looking sleep now appears much more troubled, and he rolls around restlessly.

Alec smirks as he surveys the lone Venomoth sleeping on the ground. If their luck holds out for just a little longer, they could win this. He can really feel fatigue setting in now, and each wing-beat seems to take an awful lot of effort, but he mustn't slow down.

Alec spreads his wings wide, then performs the familiar display of loops and twirls, before barreling forcefully into Venomoth. The bug gives a cry of pain as he's sent rolling backwards, and the impact jolts him awake. He gives a few feeble flaps of his burnt wings, still looking drowsy and disorientated, then looks up blearily at Alec.

Alec isn't overly concerned about the minor setback, and he casually flies back a little, still concentrating on the awakened Venomoth. The bug gives a few more feeble flaps of his wings, and a fine cloud of green spores drifts outwards again. Alec flits about, trying to get out of the way, but the spores have already surrounded him, and he gives a panicked squeak as he realises that he's already breathed in. His wing-beats grow weaker and weaker as he fights to stay awake, but he ultimately ends up slumped on the ground again.

The sleeping Zubat is of little comfort to Venomoth though, as he still has the Magnemite to contend with. Judging by the angry sparks crackling around its magnets, it has every intention of finishing Venomoth off. Sure enough, Zerzin sends another crackling bolt spiraling towards the weakened bug, and Venomoth can hardly muster up the strength to give little more than a pained squeak. The electricity crackles around him, sapping the last off his strength and leaving him lying on the ground in a charred heap.

With a sigh, Lucas recalls his defeated Venomoth along with Lillipup, and Zerzin gives a weary but cheerful sounding beep. Its a little disappointed it can't share its victory properly with Alec though, as the bat is still snoring loudly. Moo recalls the two victorious battlers, and both trainers shake hands, looking a little worn out after such a tense battle. The referee quickly hands out the prizes, saving some extra cash for the other ref, who mysteriously disappeared. He can't help but feel a little uneasy about that, especially considering the less than safe surroundings...

As if on cue, all three trainers hastily make their goodbyes and high-tail it out of the ruins, leaving the place in eerie silence once again.

Battle notes

- Sleep talk is indeed randomly targeted, but it ended up hitting Lillipup anyway.
- More than four conditionals causes a Pokémon to get mixed up and attack randomly, but Lillipup failed the confusion check, so yeah.
- Zerzin's thunderbolt was just enough to KO Venomoth.

Moo gets $16, Lucas gets $6, Grate Aural Sects gets $5 and I get $5.

Zerzin and Alec both get 3 experience points. Lillipup and Venomoth both get one. Hopefully I haven't messed up on the prizes, I'm a little shaky when it comes to double battles. Anyway, good game guys.
