The entire battlefield at first seems to be your regular, crystal-clear lake; though quite deep in the centre, one can see right to the bottom. The dirt seems, mostly, inclined to remain at the bottom unless someone intentionally stirs it up, and even then it will quickly settle when left to its own devices. As sunlight reaches to the bottom, plants have no problem growing in patches underneath the surface, although the environment might not be entirely appropriate for the seaweed that grows there. Indeed, the lake seems like a normal one, if perhaps purified by Suicune on a regular basis. That is, until you take a closer look and wonder - are those boulders... floating?

As it turns out, the surface of the lake is very solid. Pokémon, no matter how heavy, can easily walk on its surface, and the surface (but only the surface) even shakes with the effect of an earthquake when the appropriate attacks are used. It is this surface that the boulders must be resting on. It would also seem to explain the smooth surface of the lake, although the surface you walk on isn't the lake's actual surface; instead, it appears to be about two inches underwater.

However, pokémon inclined to swimming may do so, and the lake will seem like normal, though insanely pure, water to them. Anyone can easily switch between "lake" and "ground", though how it works is unknown. A swimmer, for example, can put its hands on the surface of the water and push down, to help pull it onto the surface, and from then on it can walk or run. If it wants to swim again, it can leap or slip or dive into the water as it pleases. Pokémon will not automatically float to the surface and suddenly find something underneath them, however, nor will the invisible surface suddenly disappear should they wish to go underwater. It requires actual movement to do this, although it doesn't take a full action. Startled, flinching, sleeping, or fully confused pokemon can find themselves falling into the water if they move while in this state, so pokemon can be pulled into the water.

Any impurities above the two-inch-deep surface of the water will remain there, but any others will sink to the bottom very quickly, to be absorbed by the tall, purple, seaweed-like plants.

The lake appears to be surrounded by beautiful beaches of multicoloured sand, and beyond that, lush green grasses that eventually lead to a forest on one side, and a distant village on hills on the other.

Okay, by request from Kusari, I shall add the info for the Pokemon who are to be used, as well as any Pokemon who are holding the item EXP Share.

Kusari's Pokemon:
Lombre [Ozzy] (M) <Swift Swim> @Water Stone
Mudkip [Channa] (F) <Torrent> @EXP Share

FMC's Pokemon:
Prinplup [Jinkosen] (M) <Torrent>

By coin flip:
Kusari attacks first.
Aaand FMC attacks after.

You should probably at least post my lombre and mudkip for their items, and because lombre can have two different abilities. Actually I forgot to move that EXP share after the previous battle started... oh well.

We'll be starting in the water rather than on it, because this way we are faster.

We'll begin with a medium-sized substitute, followed by two energy balls. Sunny Day if she protects/detects against energy ball or otherwise prevents you from attacking her other than with substitute, unless it's already sunny or you're simply unable to perform moves at all, in which case chill.

Substitute 15% ~ Energy Ball / Sunny Day / Chill ~ Energy Ball / Sunny Day / Chill

hmm. Okay, we can reduce the damage we take a little bit... make a 15% Sub as well, then hit with Drill Peck. Try to stay in the water as well, my penguin friend.

Hi clone commands.

The lake appears to be surrounded by beautiful beaches of multicoloured sand, and beyond that, lush green grasses that eventually lead to a forest on one side, and a distant village on hills on the other.

Green blades of grass rustled in a gentle breeze, the light gust sending waves of motion through the lush fields. Encircled by the healthy pasture was a beach of grey, tan, and red-brown sand; and surrounded by that was an immaculate, crystal clear lake. All the silt and sediment the gigantic pond had seen in its lifetime had settled on the lakebed, swallowed by the discoloured seaweed at the bottom to leave nothing but insanely pure liquid.

A wondrous, invisible second surface supported several boulders about two inches from the actual surface on the lake, and it was on that supernatural face that a helicopter with four occupants landed on. One of the humans inside gave a little squeak, no doubt fearful that the surface would suddenly give way and plunge the aircraft into the lake’s unforgiving depths. Miraculously, though, the shell held true, and three of the four people scurried out. The two battlers immediately started prancing about on Jesus Lake, obviously relishing their fleeting moments of levitation, while the referee scrambled off to shallower areas, her fear of deep water written all over her face.

After several moments the referee barked sharply and waved her arms about to indicate that the battlers should take their positions. They reluctantly obeyed, and after several minutes of going over rules and restrictions, two Pokeballs were dropped simultaneously. On Kusarigamaitachi’s side was Ozzy the Lombre. Immediately upon release, the leafduck skittered towards the middle of the lake and slipped underwater, where he began to tread at a leisurely pace.

Like his opponent, Jinkosen the Prinplup flung himself eagerly at the lake once the red light of the Pokeball had died away. He, too, approached the center of the body of water and snarled a challenge as he drew close to Ozzy.

Rolling his eyes at the near-duplicate command strings, Jinkosen plunged his beak in the water to suck up a mouthful of liquid. Once he had his mouthful of precious fluid he swilled it around in his maw, mixing what was in his mouth with globules of sticky life energy he drew from all around his body. The Prinplup poked his head above the second surface and spurted the solution onto the invisible floor; as if it had a life of its own, the viscous, glistening syrup congregated into a large puddle which heaped upon itself, again and again, to form a roughly penguin-shaped structure with crudely-formed limbs, beak, and head crest.

Ozzy was, essentially, doing the same thing as Jinkosen was. While his methods of execution were quite different, the results really were fairly similar. The Lombre made a gurgling sound at the back of his throat, then began to cough mildly until a small seed came flying out of his mouth. It landed with a faint plop on the unseen floor, where it began to unfurl rapidly. Within a few moments it resembled a Lombre made of vines and buds and with a huge, flat daisy in place of the standard lily pad. Both structures, pseudo-penguin and pseudo-leafduck, looked blankly at each other before literally dropping into the water as the surface under their feet seemed to disappear, landing in the lake with two medium-sized splashes.

Ozzy and Jinkosen both regarded the other’s Substitute with disdain before preparing their respective attacks. Ozzy held his arms out on front of him, palms facing each other, and gathered lime-green energy between his hands, while Jinkosen leapt out of the water, sending droplets of water spinning in every direction. In the end, the Prinplup was a smidgen faster than Ozzy. He angled his dive so that his beak pointed at his opponent’s lily pad then jerked his body around to add a spin to his fall. A faint glow of flying-type energy surrounded the penguin’s beak before it struck – though Jinkosen didn’t strike his intended target. At the last second the leafduck’s faithful structure threw itself in harm’s way, and he had to be satisfied with boring a hole through the Substitute’s head. Despite having what would be a fatal wound to regular, breathing creatures, it managed to hold itself together, if only to take another blow for its creator.

By now, Ozzy had gathered enough natural power to form an unstable orb the size of a bowling ball. Taking careful aim he lobbed it at his opponent, only to have it blocked by Jinkosen’s Substitute. Like his own, the structure suffered a massive injury – its entire left wing, as well as three quarters of its chest, had been burned away by the searing emerald energy – but stubbornly refused to disintegrate. Awkwardly it used its remaining flipper to swim back to its master’s side; Jinkosen, unnerved by the sinister new condition of his Substitute, edged away a bit.

Ozzy ruthlessly exploited his opponent’s hesitation to gather and launch another sphere of glowing pine green energy. Half-dead as it was, Jinkosen’s Substitute had absolutely no hope of surviving the attack: upon the instant of contact, it literally crumbled into powder that slowly began to drift to the bottom of the lake. The creator of the structure let out a worried trill, clearly reluctant to be exposed to Ozzy’s wrath… Oh well, if his Substitute disappeared, his would have to, too. Once again he popped out of the water like a cork before coming down again, body spinning rapidly and beak covered in a faint shroud of sky-blue energy. Ozzy’s protector swam in front of him and spread out its arms in a heroic attempt to shield its creator from harm. This it accomplished, though it looked like it would be the last thing it would every do: unable to stand up to the sheer magnitude of the impact, the complex of vines snapped and unraveled, then bobbed forlornly to the surface.

Let's try something different out here, Jinny. give him a Yawn, then attack with Drill Peck. If he manages to avoid the status, via Protect, Substitute, what have you, then set up an Aqua Ring, and if you've already done that and he uses protect, then Chill.

Yawn/Aqua Ring ~ Drill Peck/Aqua Ring/Chill ~ Drill Peck/Aqua Ring/Chill

mmm. Egg moves are yummy.

Poop @ energy ball thing

Uh... doesn't make a difference that you went last twice last round, but use your doubled speed to get that substitute in before the yawn. I think aqua ring might count as direct healing and get blocked, but it doesn't really matter. A quick battle gets us to metronome faster, amirite, and hopefully aqua ring doesnt have the time to do anything worth noting.

Then get your leaf above the water (if it'll make a difference; otherwise may as well just stay beneath the water; in this action it doesn't matter if you're standing on the water), and solarbeam. That should get him comfortably close to the damage cap, even with unlucky damage rolls, and let's have an energy ball take care of the rest of it.

Chill on the last action if solarbeam hit the cap (or within 5% of it) via a lucky crit.

Substitute 15% ~ Solarbeam ~ Energy Ball / Chill

However, if yawn went through for some reason, solarbeam the first action (if that doesn't give you time to charge your solarbeam, just stick with substitute) followed by an energy ball if you get it in before sleep. For all sleeping actions... actually, chill. Simpler that way. And if you woke up on the third action Jinkosen is not within 5% of the cap... giga drain, actually, for variety; chill otherwise.

Solarbeam / Substitute 15% ~ Energy Ball / Chill ~ Chill / Giga Drain

It was as if Ozzy was so insecure that he would explode from anxiety if he didn’t have his own personal bodyguard. As soon as the referee waved her flags to signal the start of the next round, he began to cough quietly once more. Jinkosen groaned in exasperation as another small seed arced through the air to land on the invisible surface just above the lake. Like its predecessor, the seed began to grow rapidly, sturdy greenish branches rising and twirling about until the mass of plant fronds resembled a kindergartener’s scribbled drawing of a Lombre. Obviously not very concerned with aesthetics, Ozzy beckoned to the impassive structure to dive into the water in front of him.

Concluding that a yawn’s effectiveness would be cut, if not outright decimated, by the largish, unresponsive look-alike between him and his opponent, Jinkosen instead spat out a stream of water that he directed in a circle around his body. Instead of dropping back into the lake, though, the droplets anchored themselves onto thin air and began to drip around him. The cool water soothed his skin, seeming to restore a bit of the energy that was used to call the penguin’s now-destroyed Substitute into being.

Ozzy completely ignored the paranormal curtain of water around his opponent and instead poked his head out of the water, lily pad tipped towards the sun. He closed his eyes in concentration as solar power was drawn in and collected by the dish-shaped leaf, slowly but surely forming a ball of brilliant white energy.

Jinkosen, on the other hand, needed no time to charge up his attack. He dove down a short distance before swimming up again, the momentum taking him several feet above the water. His curtain of soothing liquid trailing after him, the penguin then angled his beak towards his prone opponent and jerked to his left to put a spin to his fall. Ozzy, concentrated and immobile as he was, had no hope of evading the attack – but he didn’t need to, because his Substitute had literally gotten into Jinkosen’s face. Startled by the sudden appearance of the eerie, vine-woven Lombre, the penguin had no time to adjust his course and had to be satisfied with ripping a chunk out of its side. Its right leg went with it, and the structure landed awkwardly on one foot, which promptly buckled and sent its face to the floor.

By now, the sphere of power in the center of Ozzy’s lily pad had reached the size of a basketball. Unable to hold onto the unstable energy any longer, he angled it at Jinkosen, who had landed on the invisible second surface and was about to slip back into the lake. With a spectacular vweem, the orb seemed to form into a thick, dazzling white beam edged in yellow. The attack hit dead on, enveloping Jinkosen with pure solar energy. He screamed in agony; the power was so hot and scorching that it felt like his feathers would burn away. Never before had he experienced an attack that was as potent as this. It felt like hours before the attack finally died down, reduced to nothing but a harmless white thread that wavered in the air. His skin now sported blackened patches where some of the solar energy was particularly concentrated, and the weak sputter of his Aqua Ring did little to alleviate the pain.

While Jinkosen hissed and cringed at his new injuries, Ozzy held out his arms, which were shaking slightly as a result of the amount of energy the Solarbeam had consumed. Drawing yet more natural energy from the atmosphere around him, he absently molded the air between his hands until a faint flicker of green light could be seen. The light grew stronger, until it resembled a dark green orb; when it was fully opaque, Ozzy hurled it at his opponent. It exploded when it came in contact with Jinkosen’s feathers, coating them with sticky, corrosive syrup. He screeched in yet more pain and frantically wiped at it with his flippers. When his efforts proved fruitless, he slipped back into the water with a last glower at Ozzy, then came shooting back up like a blue cork, beak already covered in flying-type energy. This time, he didn’t even bother trying to aim at Ozzy, instead making a beeline for the Substitute beside him. The vines broke apart with a snap as Jinkosen buried his beak into the structure’s chest, and he hurled them angrily to the side.

Ozzy’s face broke out in a broad smirk as he paddled with his arms to reach the surface. Jinkosen watched his opponent with a mild curiosity. His expression changed from inquisitiveness to utter rage, though, when he saw a third tiny, glowing seed shoot from the Lombre’s mouth and onto the lake’s invisible floor. No, no, no, not this again… The penguin Pokemon pressed both flippers to his temples, as if he was getting a massive migraine.

Ozzy, on the other hand, had absolutely no qualms about raising a new Substitute, save for the nauseous feeling in his stomach when he took a portion of his own life energy and spat it all over the seed. In response to the miraculous power the seed burst open and started shooting off vines in a frenzy, achieving a rough Lombre shape in a matter of moments. It make a sort of croaking noise, then unceremoniously splashed into the lake next to its creator. Not far from the two leafducks, Jinkosen let out a hiss and shook his head furiously.

Several seconds of mental ranting later, the Prinplup looked up to glare angrily at his opponent. Always hiding behind those stupid vine-figurine-things, ugh… Deciding that his only course of action was to destroy those vine-figurine-things, Jinkosen jumped out of the water for the umpteenth time this match, then put a spin to his flight as he began to descend. And for the umpteenth time, Ozzy’s Substitute leapt in front of its creator, arms spread wide to take the entire force of the hit. Jinkosen’s sharp beak hit the structure precisely in the neck, easily tearing through the thin vines to discombobulate it. The vines that made the head unraveled as it floated about in the water, though the rest of the body was very much intact, albeit headless and without a clue what was where.

Ozzy couldn’t help but inch away from his Substitute. It was useful, but having a headless structure protect you until its last breath was quite unnerving. Nevertheless, he stretched out his arms and tapped into the natural world around him, drawing pure grass-type energy from the innate realm. Once the power was shaped into a bowling ball-sized sphere, it was shot off, underwater and straight into Jinkosen’s stomach. He coughed and gagged as he splashed, one flipper rubbing at his sore belly, before shooting another murderous glare at Ozzy’s Substitute. The figurine, lacking eyes, sensed rather than saw the glower, but didn’t respond anyway.

Another jump, twist, and peck saw the vine model unraveling into long strands of tough green stalks. Jinkosen gave an irritated sigh before stretching his wings, ready to finally fight the real deal. His hopes were in vain, though, as Ozzy rubbed at his eyelid before spewing up yet another seed from the back of his throat. Jinkosen couldn’t help but let a howl of rage tear from his throat, but that was far from enough to deter the little sprout. Like its three predecessors, the seed quickly sent shoots up in the air in complicated patterns, weaving and twisting and knotting. This one, however, was hastily done, as if sensing imminent danger.

In fact, Jinkosen had already dove into the water, and just as the Substitute’s head was finished, the penguin Pokemon shot out of the water like a mini rocket. By now, the Prinplup’s sanity was being sorely tested, what with the constant doppelgangers and repetitive commands. He squeezed his eyes shut in concentration as he twisted around to add a spin to his fall, his body now resembling a drill more than a rocket. This time, the Substitute’s arm was ripped off; it staggered back, face as impassive as ever, before regaining its footing.

The 1st Drill Peck rolled very close to a critical hit, so I had it do 2% more damage as well as disable the Substitute in some way (namely, shutting off most of its senses). Not that it mattered much, because Jinkosen was bent on killing off the Substitute, and it died the next action.

Get up so your leaf is above the surface and solarbeam. Follow up with a 15% sub (we'll stop soon, really), very preferably before he manages to attack, and end it with a giga drain, which won't really help us in the health department but it'll at least give blazheirio889 something new to describe , heh. Probably won't make much of a difference when it comes to beating her round after next, as far as we're concerned.

Ozzy stretched his arms over his head and yawned. The battle wasn’t what he had hoped it had been: a blood-pumping fight. Instead it was an endless barrage of Drill Pecks and Energy Balls, with a few Substitutes thrown in the mix. Oh, here comes another one… Out of the corner of his eye, the Lombre caught sight of Jinkosen popping out of the lake like a flutter board that had been held underwater. Ozzy made no move to cover the more vulnerable parts of his body, nor did he try to dodge; he just stood there as his Substitute leapt in front of him and was ripped to pieces by a goring beak. The disturbing scene was eerily illuminated by the light gathering in the center of his lily pad, and he winced inwardly as Jinkosen savagely snapped at the lifeless vines – someone was in a bad mood.

By now, the solar power Ozzy was harvesting had formed into a small sphere, a brilliant white orb edged with yellow that grew larger by the second. The light from the premature Solarbeam threw the shadow of his leaf onto his face, giving him an ominous appearance. It took only a few more moments for the ball to reach the size of a basketball, which was when the Lombre deemed the power too strenuous to hold on to. He leaned towards Jinkosen and released his hold on the attack; now free, it leapt forward at light speed, engulfing the unfortunate penguin in a shell of searing, scorching grass-type energy. He shrieked in profound agony: the attack was powerful enough by itself, but the pain was only bolstered by his elemental weaknesses. Jinkosen could almost feel the water being sucked out of his skin, and when the Solarbeam finally died down, he was left panting in pain. Patches of feathers had been seared off to reveal cracked skin underneath. Only moments before, the Prinplup had felt reasonably healthy; now he wasn’t sure if he could last another round.

As Jinkosen treaded water and tried to concentrate through a haze of suffering, Ozzy packed a large portion of what life energy he had remaining in a tough, wood-like shell. He then spat it onto the lake’s second surface, where the casing burst apart to reveal – predictably – a large tangle of vines. Jinkosen looked up to be greeted by a fifth Substitute, and a furious, irate screech rent the air. Stop with the freaking Substitutes already! The thought was practically written all over the penguin’s face as he ducked underwater and shot back up with impressive speed, a spin already in his flight. Despite his eagerness to do damage, he simply could not muster the strength to tear apart the sturdy structure in one fell swoop, and had to be content with tearing both arms off.

Almost as soon as Jinkosen landed back in the water, he was surrounded by a curious, greenish glow that danced across his feathers, leaving a tingly sensation in its wake. He huffed irritably and tried to shake the aura off of one flipper. All of a sudden, the harmless prickling feeling turned into what felt like a malicious, greedy bunch of needles, which stabbed into his skin and sucked away valuable life energy. Little orbs of the miraculous substance separated from the Prinplup’s body and floated towards Ozzy, who was regarding the lustrous spheres with a sort of hunger. A thin trail of saliva escaped his mouth before he started snapping at the spheres. There weren’t too many, though, and the Lombre settled back in the water, feeling better in terms of physical condition, but by no means satiated.

Though not nearly as powerful as the Solarbeam, the Giga Drain had siphoned a decent amount of health from the already battered Jinkosen. His head felt faint as he popped out from the water to execute the umpteenth Drill Peck of the match, and he only allowed himself to feel the slightest bit of elation when Ozzy’s bodyguard fell to pieces, its life spent. The Prinplup floated in the lake, belly-up, teetering on the brink of unconsciousness.

Kusari attacks first next round.
Something new to describe, yesss :D Thanks, Kusari~

:D

Of course, we're going back to energy ball now but you can still describe fainting, right, since it's the most reliable thing we've got. Two energy balls and a chill, if Jinkosen even lasts that long. If he manages to use a guaranteed-blocking technique, other than substitute, chill instead. In that case, you won't have to chill the last action.

In the case of endure, the first time leech seed from close enough to not miss. Then energy ball (unless it'd be blocked by a non-sub, non-endure, naturally).

Energy Ball / Chill / Leech Seed ~ Energy Ball / Chill / Leech Seed ~ Chill / Energy Ball

Ozzy stretched out his arms in front of him, his body faintly glowing green as his subconscious phased partially into the intrinsic realm, in search of pure, natural energy. The faint outline of a wobbly sphere appeared in between the Lombre’s two hands, the interior slowly becoming more opaque as the seconds ticked on. Jinkosen panicked, having seen the move being performed numerous times in the match, and slapped at the lake’s surface with his flippers. Fear made his mind clumsy, however, and before he could dive into the relative safety of the water Ozzy’s completed Energy Ball rocketed into his chest. The sheer force of the attack pushed Jinkosen under the surface; Ozzy paddled over to observe his opponent.

Two or three seconds later, Jinkosen rose to the surface of his back, eyes closed. His opponent prodded him with one clawed hand, but the Prinplup felt nothing; his mind had already been claimed by unconsciousness. Ozzy whooped and threw his hands in the air, incredibly tired but elated nonetheless.

Poor Jinkosen, never even got a chance to attack. He was knocked out on the 1st action.
Sorry for the short and late reffing. Homework has the inexplicable ability to sap away your motivation.

And the battle is over! Kusari is the winner, and it gets $8. FMC gets $3, and I get $5 for reffing.

Ozzy gets 2 EXP and can now evolve, though the EXP can be transferred to Channa the Mudkip via EXP Share. And Jinkosen gets an inherent hatred of Substitutes 1 EXP. Good game, you two.
