• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

Well, I guess I'll post just this for now. Don't expect any more, though. Commentary and criticism are welcome.

I Will Fly
Free verse, irregular rhythm and flow. Please do not try to force the rhyme when reading; any rhyme is unintentional.

My greatest ambition is to soar
Since the day I was born I've tried
Jumping off cliffs in hopes that
Someday I will fly

But even with all this work
My efforts are unrequited
Struggling to flap my arms
Only to hit the ground again

Sometimes I feel
Embarrassed and silly
Trying to attain
What is impossible for me

One day, jumping off a ledge
I break my arm and cry
My trainer bade me stop, but I believe
Someday I will fly

--

The winter is nearing
And the North winds are blowing
I have longing, but it is not possible
To flap my arms and fly

Hunger is gnawing at my stomach
And the temptation is great
But I will endure this obstacle
As surely as I will fly

The snow is blowing in my face
As I prepare to jump once more
But no matter how much I try
Seemingly I will never fly

--

The snow is melting, bit by bit
And I still cannot take flight
I have given up almost all hope
That I will ever fly

The wind is gusting, and I see
My trainer struggling to hold against
One strong gale pushes him over
The tall and rocky cliff

At that moment my emotions take over
I run after him
And as I jump over the ledge
I grow some newfound wings

Over the evening sun I glide
Under the oaks I pass
Over the clouds I soar
Under the moon I slip

The wonderful sensation of flying
I am truly free!
All because I longed to soar; thought someday
I will fly
