Blazhy vs. Typh

It seemed like the tea-cod had put out the referee's bonfire; its stack of ex-SAT preparation books now sat on the ground (ha, SAT books sat on the ground), and a large bolt of ASBgodlightening split the sky and gave the referee a good, hard, zap. It was starting to get hard to tell whether the SAT books or the lightening was frying the referee's brain. The referee prodded the sodden, tea-soaked ashes with its referee flag, before giving up, tossing its referee flag to the ground. A little while later, the referee cursed, stood up, retrieved its now tea-scented flag from the ashes and waved it, signaling the start of the battle, before running off the arena and disappearing behind a bush.

Round 6

Kohryuu squinted, trying to figure out where the Spike was located in his tail. It was starting to hurt a lot, and he did not want to aggravate the injury any further. Deciding that it was safe to attack, the onix sharpened his tail again with his beak until it gained an almost metallic shine. His newly polished tail glinting like a mirror, one could see the vague mirage of the rainbow from the fountain. Then, swinging his tail forward and careful not to touch any Spikes (which turned out to be an impossible task), Kohryuu jabbed Zenigata in the chest before quickly pulling back.

Zenigata was not amused. At all. First, those stupid ninja rocks had moved out of the way when the onix attacked. Second, the rock snake had moved faster than he thought it would and had just jabbed him with its tail. The skarmory started to glow as he gathered energy from within. The RNG gods looked from above, appearing to be ambivalent while actually secretly planning to screw everyone over. Zenigata, having finished charging, opened his beak and sent out a burst of gaudy energy that flashed in a multitude of colors, giving anyone sensitive a seizure on the way, and, right before it hit the onix, turned faint blue.

Distracted by the flashy lights (not to mention the rainbow the Hidden Power made when it passed by the fountain), Kohryuu misjudged the distance between him and the skarmory and accidentally jabbed his sharpened tail into the ground, sending up a spray of dirt and Spikes. Zenigata took this time to attack, sending Steel energy into his wings until they hardened, then, careful to crash into the least number of Stealth Rocks possible, the skarmory charged forward, stepped on a Spike, cursed louder than the referee had, and tripped, crashing into the ground, his attack forgotten.

Kohryuu took this time to quickly jab his tail into the fallen skarmory before his opponent could move out of the way. Muttering fowl [sic] curses, Zenigata stood up, his face covered with mud and grass bits, and flapped his wings hard. As the dirt sprayed off his wings, a slight breeze started blowing, giving anyone on the skarmory's side a slight speed boost.

There is a pile of rocks next to Kohryuu, and the small patch of grass underneath the pile of rocks are long dead from the Toxic. There is a small, barboach-sized tunnel; one of its openings is at the bottom of the pond, and the other is on muddy ground a few feet away from the pond. A thin jet of water about three feet tall is spraying out like a fountain from the hole, making pretty sparkles and rainbows while slowly draining the pond. Most of the grass had been overturned, exposing the dirt and rocks underneath. There is a very large pile of rocks next to Zenigata. There is also slight breeze blowing.

Some pointy and sharp Spikes have been scattered on the onix's side; anyone stepping on those will receive 2% damage.

The referee popped back out of the bush, holding what looked to be a very large vat of lard. It's not quite clear why the lard was in a vat, why there was a vat of lard behind the bush, and what in the world the referee was planning to do with the vat of lard, but the referee waved off the questioning glances and pulled out a thick wad of note cards from its beret. It has been widely suspected that the referee's beret is actually an opening to hammerspace, but nobody had been able to prove it due to the fact that the referee only extracts small items from the beret. Whether the referee's beret leads to hammerspace or not was not Blazhy's concern, however, as she withdrew her onix with a click of the pokeball, all skillfully done while standing on one foot. Then, probably by magic, the mechanical dragon pulled out another pokeball from nowhere and, balancing it tactfully on a ninjatoe, pressed the button. A burst of white light later, a small, blue sphinx replaced the rock snake on the battlefield and looked around indignantly, its paws sinking slightly into the soft, muddy, earth.

Typh, the only human on the battlefield, too withdrew her pokemon and sent out another -- a green cactus with spiky arms and a just as spiky crown. The moment the cacnea set his eyes on his opponent, he freaked, leapt about a foot into the air, and scooted backwards until he was right by the edge of the pond. Seems like the luxio's intimidating appearance was doing its job.

The referee had smeared all the lard on the ground around the vat and produced a matchstick, probably from its beret again. A small spark of electricity flew, and the matchstick spontaneously combusted, making the referee yelp in surprise and drop on the flaming match onto the lard, setting it on fire. Shrugging, the referee ducked behind the bush again, popping up a minute later with an armful of... cooking supplies?

One of the trainers peeked curiously behind the bush, only for a flying referee flag to hit her on the head. "Round start," the referee said and dumped a bucket of soup into its vat.

Round 7

Retsurai blinked in confusion -- is he really that scary? -- and made Rehabit attempt to scramble backwards even more. Whatever. The luxio pawed at the muddy earth until he made a good sized lump, glowing faintly, he transferred some of his health energy into the lump of dirt. The substitute looked crude, unlike the one Xenon had made earlier, but Retsurai did not particularly care. Whatever does the job is his philosophy, and he had never taken an Art Class before and thus never figured out how to make a Substitute that can stand on four legs. Until, of course, he scraped his paw on something hard and Spiky. Rehabit, on the other hand, carefully plucked a blade of grass from the ground, wincing when he scraped his arm on one of those floating rocks, and formed the grass into a whistle. With its many mouths, the cactus blew on the blade of grass, making a sweet, soft melody. The referee, who had been dumping pieces of meat into its soup, started slumping over, before slapping itself and plugging its ears with some earplugs extracted from its beret. Retsurai was completely unaffected though, and he watched (or glared, actually) at the cacnea in confusion. Was that supposed to be an attack or something?

It didn't really matter though. If the spiky plant wasn't going to attack, all's the better. Paw glowing with a faint green energy, the sphinx charged forward, the lump of dirt trailing behind him, stepped on a Spike, and swiped at the cacnea, nearly knocking the cactus into the water. Scary! Fumbling with his grass blade, Rehabit tried again, this time blowing to the theme of Super Mario. However, the ungainly lump of dirt decided to step into Rehabit's way, and the 8-bit melody was completely absorbed. Retsurai shrugged -- whatever floats the cacnea's boat -- and swiped at the cacnea again, his attack strengthened by the knowledge that, despite the cactus's spiky appearance, it doesn't hurt to hit it.

Rehabit winced and tried again, blowing the whistle harder this time, trying to get past the Substitite. However, he had no luck, and his music was once again absorbed by the muddy lump of dirt.

Retsurai seems to have used a bit more energy than he should've. I got a figure closer to 89%. But ah, 2% doesn't quite affect it too much, I don't think. *picky*

Doo doo doo doo doo doo~ Doo~ Ah, classics... *slaps self awake* Well, we should be out of the range of those pesky Spikes now. Fury Cutter to your heart's content. However, it'll have its BP reset if you miss, so if Rehabit is Protecting, Detecting (can it even use that), has clones, or is otherwise difficult/impossible to hit, don't bother. Same goes for if there's a Sandstorm. Now, if there are clones, or if a Sandstorm is up, or you've been blinded by Flash or Sand Attack or something, instead use Natural Gift. Finally, in case of Counter, switch to Signal Beam.
Oh, and if your primary option has been Spited, then switch to the next one. So like if Fury Cutter's been Spited, switch to Natural Gift; if Natural Gift's Spited, go for Signal Beam, and if that's been Spited too, just use Fury Cutter. However, use Signal Beam if Rehabit Counters no matter what.

Now if it is, cue vairety! Down there, Nasty Plot then jump out and Teeter Dance.

In the midst of stirring the suspicious contents of its soup, the referee suddenly cursed and started running away from the arena. The trainers looked around, bewildered, trying to figure out what had made the referee scramble away like that and whether the soup was edible and whether the referee will notice if they stole a sip. The referee ran like mad and dove into the bushes (which definitely contain a portal to hammerspace), just in time for a series of large, rectangular things to fly right over the vat, and right through the space where the referee's head had occupied a few seconds ago. The large, rectangular things fell to the ground with a heavy thud right next to the referee (who was curled up with its heads under its paws), and everything was quiet again.

One of the trainers decided to risk getting brained by a flying referee flag and peered over the bushes to see what in the world those flying things were. They looked oddly familiar, and, the trainer squinted to see the titles.

The Official SAT Study Guide was printed boldly on one of those rectangular things. The referee let out a groan and, picking up the books and a stray referee flag from the ground, stood up, walked over to the mysterious vat of soup. Flipping open the book and taking out a pencil and a timer from its beret, the referee began to furiously scribble in one of the sections. After a little while of staring at the unresponsive referee, the trainers decided to start the match before a less competent e-reff comes along and claims it.

Round 8

One might realize that the pond was rather large just by noticing the fact that it still had no drained completely even after so many rounds. The little tunnel a certain barboach dug was still faithfully sprouting water and making a pretty rainbow and lots of sparkles. This fact may make a water pokemon very happy, but Rehabit is not a water pokemon and he can't swim. So, he was certainly not very happy when Mr. Scaryface's paw started glowing again with the same, horrible bug energy. He was even more unhappy when the luxio, with its sloppy Substitute exhibiting the same menace, growled and swiped at him with a paw right in the face, hitting a weak spot. However, the pain was the least of his worries as the muddy ground slipped out from under his stubby feet and the cactus pokemon fell backwards -- straight into the pond.

Splish-splash went the water, every single pretty sparkle reflecting the luxio's intimidating face. Rehabit managed to let out a little yelp before he started chocking with water and could not make a sound anymore. Thankfully, the cacnea had not been knocked into the deeper part of the pond and managed to scramble back onto the coast without much trouble, but the face of the luxio almost made him wish that he had drowned instead. Retsurai growled again, and Rehabit tentatively peered around him, trying to figure out if there's a way to hide in the tunnel and get away from Mr. Scaryface. Alas, the tunnel his trainer had mentioned was too small, and it was still squirting water, and Rehabit was left with his second option -- that it, to punch Mr. Scaryface right in his scary face. The cacnea gulped nervously and punched, closing his eyes and praying to the ASB gods that the luxio won't get mad, but his fist met a soft, squishy substance instead of an actual face. The luxio's Substitute had jumped in the way and protected its master from the attack. Rehabit drew his hand back, wincing at the cuts the sharp rocks (where did they come from again?) cut him.

Rehabit breathed a sigh of relief -- at least the luxio did not get mad at him... When another Fury Cutter whacked him across the face. The cacnea was more prepared this time and did not fall into the pond like before, but the increasingly stronger attacks were starting to hurt. Deciding that another Brick Break was his best option, Rehabit once again gathered up all his courage and punched the muddy Substitute. He was starting to feel pretty confident watching the muddy clone dissolve into the ground until he saw the luxio glaring at him. Retsurai's face was twisted into a snarl, showing a few of his sharp, deadly fangs, and the cacnea couldn't help but shrink back and mutter apologies for the destroyed Substitute.

Retsurai growled again, his sharp yellow eyes burning with hatred (or so the cacnea thought. It was just a natural look! Really!). Paw glowing powerful green, the luxio smacked the cacnea on the head with his strongest swipe yet, sending the the poor cactus flying through a few pointy rocks, back into the pond. The pretty rainbow the water droplets made did not match Rehabit's current mood at all. Flailing, Rehabit managed to get himself to land although he really wished that he could just drown and get away from Mr. Scaryface forever. Dripping wet and miserable, the cactus took a deep breath and punched Retsurai in the throat. The luxio flinched and started growling louder and more menacing than before.

Notes:
- Blazhy: Since Fury Cutter is Bug type (no STAB) and has base 20 PP, it costs 4% energy each. So, 100% - 5(Substitute) - 4 - 4 = 87.
- The first Fury Cutter was a critical hit and knocked Rehabit into the pond.
- The tunnel was too small for Rehabit to fit in, and it was still squirting water, so Rehabit spammed Brick Break instead.
- The third Fury Cutter was a crital hit and knocked Rehabit into the pond again. Typh, you need to start praying to the RNG gods more. And Blazhy, how many shrines for the RNG gods do you have?
- Rehabit took extra energy to get out of the water.
- Typh is ordering first next.

"ASDFGHJ ASDFGHJ," the referee said. Nobody bothered to point out that it is quite impossible to say something in all caps, especially something with so many consonants. Maybe it was Finnish. Or maybe the referee had dropped something on its keyboard. Either way, the gibberish was followed by a blinding flash of light, some smoke, and the sudden disappearance of the referee.

The two trainers waited.

And waited.

Typh looked as if she was about to fall asleep. Wait, she was asleep. Nevermind.

Blazhy tapped a ninjatoe on the ground, accidentally creating a wormhole. She quickly closed it and pretended that nothing had happened.

After what felt like a few days later, there was another blinding flash of light, and the referee materialized about five feet above where it was standing before. Gravity took hold, and the referee crashed into the ground with a loud thump and a lot of cursing. It raised a referee flag (where had that came from?) weakly. "Round Start...."

Round 9 (Last Round Go go go)

So scary! After being punched in the throat, the luxio looked scarier than ever. Rehabit tried to shrink or disappear into the mud or die or something, as long as he would not have to see the luxio's sharp, yellow eyes and hear the bloodcurdling growls anymore. Alas, his wish was not granted. One can give Retsurai credit for trying to grant the cactus's wish though; growling (mostly due to the pain in his throat, but the Rehabit didn't know that), the luxio once again focused bug energy into his paw and whacked the cowering cactus on the side of the head. Rehabit cried out in pain and lashed out at the luxio, his spiky arm covered with the same bug energy, but his attack was substantially weaker. The Fury Cutter didn't even scratch the Retsurai, and, while it hit, there was no force behind the attack. Rehabit was perhaps more hurt by the attack than Retsurai was -- while swinging his arm, a few floating rocks decided to get in the way and gave Rehabit a nasty cut.

While he wasn't in that much pain yet, Rehabit closed his eyes and waited for his death. Retsurai's paw glowed again, brighter this time, and the luxio slammed his paw into the cactus with even more force than before. Despite the cactus's spiky appearance, it was really, really weak, the luxio decided. Rehabit struck out again, regretting it more and more. He would love to just cower in a corned and die, but his trainer ordered him to keep on attacking... Didn't Typh realize how scary the luxio is? The cacnea opened his eyes and took a small peek at his opponent.

Bored, Retsurai yawned, showing a mouthful of sharp, pointed fangs. Rehabit let out a faint squeak and almost fainted right there. The luxio's paw started glowing green again, and, almost absentmindedly, he swiped at the cacnea, his paw slamming heavily into the cactus's head. Rehabit stumbled, a bit disorientated -- strange, the attack didn't seem to hurt as much as it should have -- and, his arm glowing, lashed back, hoping that the round would end soon. Rehabit's attack hit, but Retsurai, once again, was barely harmed.

Well, that's finally over. The referee (who was attempting to clean up its pot of... something) waved a flag, and the trainers withdrew their pokemon. The referee then pulled out a calculator from its beret and took its time punching in some numbers while the trainers waited impatiently to get their prize. Blazhy sighed and tapped a ninjatoe on the ground, warping time and fast-forwarded to the future, just in time to hear the referee announce the winner.

"Ahem. Blazhy has 134plus124plus126equals384 points, and Typh has 107plus122plus79ouchthatreallysuckahem308 points. Congrats to Blazhy for winning, here's your money, and here's your consolatory money, Typh pss go build some RNG god shrines, and the rest of this is mine, and no, there's no more money in my beret, so GET YOUR NINJATOE AWAY thank you very much." Taking a deep breath, the referee continued, "Now, if you'll excuse me, I have the high school exit exam to study for." With that, the referee ducked into the bushes and disappeared.

Notes:
- WHAT?! NINE THOUSAND?!
- Sorry about the lateness. I had to take the SAT's. :(
- All of the Fury Cutters hit. Which was too bad for Rehabit. Typh, you really should invest in RNG god shrines sometime.

- Blazhy: Xenon the Driftloon, Kohryuu the Onix, and Retsurai the Luxio get 2 EXP each
- Typh: Kuudere the Barboach, Zenigata the Skarmory, and Rehabit the Cacnea get 1 EXP each
- Good game, everyone~
