[11] Big Red Cherry Bomb vs Whirlpool

Round Six

Big Red Cherry Bomb (O)
togekiss
L'Arc-En-Ciel (M) <Serene Grace>
Health: 43%
Energy: 21%
Commands: Lucky Chant ~ Roost + Chill
- Upbeat as ever, but starting to get very tired.

Whirlpool (O)
murkrow
Jet (M) <Super Luck>
Health: 84%
Energy: 52%
Commands: Drill Peck/Air Cutter/Heat Wave (x3)
- Back in the game.

Relishing his restored speed, Jet is quick to spread his wings as a new song starts to blare from the loudspeakers. The murkrow takes to the air, bobbing his head to the heavy beat of the dance tune, then flies straight at L'Arc, spinning as he goes. The togekiss grimaces as Jet's drill peck makes contact, ripping a deep furrow down his feathery side, but it isn't enough to prevent him from breaking into song. L'Arc's bouncy, chirping voice clashes and interferes oddly with "Poker Face," but it's effective nonetheless. The togekiss' feathers seem to take on more luster, the occasional sparkle of energy zapping through the air around him, as the lucky chant takes effect, temporarily putting the togekiss in a hotspot of good fortune.

He's not a moment too soon; Jet pulls out of his drill peck, gets his bearings, and almost immediately turns about to initiate another spinning dive. Even with the aid of the song, which might otherwise let him get the drop on L'Arc, he can't seem to catch the togekiss unawares. L'Arc turns towards him as he dives and takes the drill peck square in the chest, grimacing but better off than he would have been if the attack had hit a more tender spot.

The togekiss sinks down, dripping blood, and settles gratefully onto the stage. He folds his wings and closes his eyes, entering a period of temporary quiescence to heal over the worst of his wounds. At the same time, he does his best to relax and recharge his energy stores--and a good thing, too, for the roost attack demands quite a bit of him. The togekiss is still roosting, unawares, when Jet comes spinning down out of the air, but as before L'Arc's lucky chant saves him from taking catastrophic damage. Still, the corkscrew impact of Jet's beak is enough to wake him from his trance. The togekiss opens weary eyes and spreads his wings, though for the moment he stays where he is, loath to take to the air as fatigue lends extra weight to his body.

We're in a nice position, yup yup.

Taunt until it works, then Swagger and some filler move! Like Foul Play! Just try to get him to waste some energy, okay? But if Taunt is a status ailment, just Snatch those Chills up.

Taunt/Snatch ~ Swagger/Snatch ~ Foul Play/Snatch

"Poker Face" is replaced with a much mellower tune, quietly upbeat, and both pokémon relax, renewed by its simple cheerfulness. Jet wastes no time before spoiling the mood, of course. The murkrow taunts his weary opponent mercilessly. Hey, happy wings, the weight of that ridiculous scarf wearing you down? The battle's only just getting started, and you're already begging for a break? Pathetic! Jet shakes his tailfeathers at L'Arc and struts around impudently, daring the togekiss to rouse himself and come get him. L'Arc grits his teet, his crest rising despite all his attempts at self-control. He wants to chill out, he really does, but that murkrow is just so infuriating. Try as he might, L'Arc just can't settle down and rest; he is itching to spring across the arena and teach Jet a lesson, but his orders don't allow it.

To make matters worse, Jet soon transitions to bragging about himself rather than simply denigrating L'Arc. The murkrow preens unashamedly, pointing out what a dapper gentleman he is in his magician's costume, clearly a crowd favorite. And of course, the audience is eating up his act at this point--they think the pompous little murkrow is hilarious and aren't shy in egging him on. Meanwhile, rage simmers in L'Arc's heart. Nothing matters to him anymore but getting revenge, nothing. The togekiss lets out a chirping cry and makes an awkward leap at Jet, battering the murkrow with his wings and generally flailing about in an uncoordinated attack. The togekiss' struggles certainly do throw Jet off his game for a moment, but the cost to L'Arc is much higher. The togekiss manages to exert himself to the point of exhaustion, and his blows rapidly grow weaker and more erratic. At last they stop altogether and the togekiss slumps to the stage in an exhausted stupor, utterly unable to continue battling.

Victorious!

It's perhaps not the most flashy end to a battle, but the crowd is appreciative nonetheless. Jet eats up the attention, as much surprised as elated by his win. Whirlpool comes onstage to accept his accolades in the company of his strutting murkrow. Shortly thereafter, Coloursfall arrives to recall his fallen togekiss and take his fair share of the applause. The two trainers shake hands, then turn to the referee to accept their prizes.

That was quite a match! Good battle, guys. Whirlpool gets $20 and a place in the third round, while Coloursfall gets $10. I get $15.
