I wrote a poem.
Shades
The leap into the unknown
is as the first
breath of air,
the struggle of a stricken seal beneath the waves—
harsh ragged painful,
but soft as the wind.
The soft pitter-patter,
hush of feet on forest floor;
the stir of silence—
no more
creeps up on her
shadows skulking in the sun
indistinct
there not there
yet there again
soft as a leaf on the wind—
gone.
The strike upon its coming
is neither here nor there
but in that hazy inbetween
between word and deed
between the silent seeping fear of nightmare and its coming—
unknown, unknowable.
The cracksplintercrush
of bone is harsh,
yet no more so than
a breath of air, or—
leap!
The forest floor is no safe place.
