Many of the ASB legends who joined in 2005 have since retired, such as Cryssie, opal, MD, and Dark Nido, just to name a few. Two stalwarts who have been ASBers since the year of the league's inception, however, are Zhorken and Rarity. Both have also spent time away from the league, however: Zhorken temporarily hung up his Pokeballs, while Rarity was jailed for perjury. However, with the exception of ASB president Negrek, they are the two ASBers with the earliest registration date among everyone who has signed up for Generation 5, and so, these two grizzled veterans take to the field, knowing that there are millions of young children watching them on Asber (I think that's what our region is called) television and idolizing them.

Veteran's Field is called that because, it is a standard field, but every fourth round, a random third Pokemon will enter the battlefield, and stay until four rounds after that, and so on - every fourth round after Round 4, the Pokemon on the battlefield will be changed. It is always a basic that can evolve. It is a wild Pokemon and will use three random attacks each round. If the Pokemon is defeated, EXP is also given. Truly, this battlefield is for veterans of ASB.

(Also, do the random wild Pokémon have the full 100% health and energy? I presume so, but that seems rather a lot if it's supposedly realistic to be able to KO them in four rounds :v)

Sending out Enver.

EDIT: Also, um, Keigh's got a Lucky Egg, Zal's ability is Arena Trap, and Zylinth's name starts with a Z.

I'll send out Frost.

Open with Hail, then use Blizzard twice. If Enver doesn't use a damaging attack for either of the last two actions, then use Confuse Ray for that action.

Okay! It's a good deal faster than you, so you should easily be able to change the weather and get yours in second; Sunny Day seems fitting. Then use Jump Kick twice, since, well, it's in the air.

Somewhere in Asber, there is a vast tract of grassland arbitrarily reserved for only those trainers who have been members of the league for longer than anyone else. Today, for the first time in living memory, two veteran trainers take to this field for a momentous battle being broadcast all throughout Asber. For a while there is debate as to whether the referee, not even having been a member of the League for two measly years, should be allowed to set foot in this sacrosanct place, but since someone has to oversee this battle, he is allowed in as a very special exception.

Once everyone has taken their place on the battlefield and the TV equipment has started rolling, the veteran trainers get ready to send out their Pokémon. Zhorken takes the first pick, opting to open with Enver the Buneary, and Effercon sends out their Cryogonal, Frost. Then as soon as commands are given and the announcer finishes their introductory prologue to the viewers at home, the battle begins!

Frost scans the field with his freaky, glowing eyes. It's way too bright and sunny here for his liking, and he decides something needs to be done about it. His body shimmers with a pale blue aura, and the clouds suddenly become thick and grey, rolling in to block the sun and cast a dreary gloom over the field. Then, huge hailstorms the size of apples come soaring down from the sky and slamming into the ground, rather sparsely at first but soon becoming incredibly heavy, causing every human in the vicinity to duck for cover. Frost, however, gives the closest approximation to a smile a Cryogonal can give; now this is an arena fit for an Ice-type. Enver, however, is less than impressed, as he tries frantically to manoeuvre out of the way of the murderous clumps of ice launching down upon him. He's certainly not keen on letting Frost get an elemental advantage over him, and in any case these hailstones are going to damage one of those expensive-looking TV machines if this carries on much longer. Pressing his paws together, he produces a small orb of warm, glowing red light, which floats out of his grasp and soars skywards, disappearing into the thick, nebulous sheet of dark grey clouds far above. A sudden burst of light erupts from the sky shortly afterwards, banishing the hail clouds and raining blinding sunshine onto the field below.

While everyone else present rather enjoys the pleasantly warm climate, Frost grimaces and curses its lack of appendages to shield its eyes from the sun with. Its hailstorm can't be gone already! That's just not fair! Desperate to do something to take the edge off the sweltering heat, it breathes out a sparkling cloud of freezing-cold breath, which swirls around the arena scooping up the quickly-melting hailstones left over. Then the breeze grows stronger, whipping around Enver in a tornado of ice, snow and freezing cold air. The vortex flings Enver around brutally and slams huge clumps of ice into his body at high speed, eventually petering out and flinging the battered, freezing, traumatised little bunny to the ground. Eventually, Enver gathers his wits, and springs back onto his feet to retaliate, sprinting in Frost's direction with a furious snarl. The Cryogonal flinches away from his advance, but feels no subsequent impact; confused, it scans the area for Enver, unable to spot him anywhere. Hearing an enraged cry from above it, Frost looks up just in time for Enver to collide feet-first with its face, springing away from his foe and landing neatly on the ground. Frost, meanwhile, is sent crashing to the ground from the impact, caught completely off guard by its suddenness and left bewildered and racked with pain.

Despite the weather still not being very conducive to his wintry antics, Frost elects to repay Enver's beating with another whirlwind of ice, shrouding the arena in frigid mist quickly before the last of the hail can melt away. Strong, freezing winds rush into the field from an unknown source, scooping up Enver and hurling him to and fro, slamming him into everything at hand and dumping ice and snow over him. Again, the winds die out just as suddenly as they picked up, flinging Enver into the air one last time and sending him tumbling into a pile of hailstones. This time however, he is caught much less off guard, and immediately bounds up into the air with his foot extended towards Frost. He hurtles down from the air and deals a lightning-fast kick with all the momentum he can muster, again hopping away gracefully while Frost is slammed painfully into the ground below. It starts up its levitation again with a groan of misery, leering furiously at his opponent, who even in the bright sunshine is still shivering slightly from the intense cold of two subsequent Blizzards.

Wait, so if it weren't for that critical hit, Enver's Jump Kicks would have done a good deal less damage than Frost's Blizzards? o.o Were you using its old 85 power or something? I can't figure out why they'd be doing much less, if any less. (Not to tell you how to do your job or anything. I'm just. confused.)

Regardless: use Swagger, then Drain Punch twice. If it puts a Substitute up before you can Swagger, just use an extra Drain Punch.

Whoops. Yeah, I was going by its old base power because it's still listed as 85 in the Attacks and Abilities guide. Sorry about that.

After a few minutes in the warm sun, Enver warms himself up enough to return his attentions to the battle. Not wanting to give Frost the wrong impression with all this sunbathing, he strolls casually up to the sentient ice crystal and makes a few throwaway remarks about the weather- my, it got a little breezy just now, huh? Not that I mind it, mind you, a little chilly weather never did anyone any harm... Frost, however, isn't listening, having sealed itself behind a soundproof energy barrier. It's certain its opponent is trash-talking it somehow, but as long as it can't hear, it has no real excuse to get angry.

Enver frowns. However provocatively he struts and however many fighting words he spouts, he just can't seem to work this stupid snowflake up! With a sigh, he curtails his antics, and Frost dissipates its shield. Enver concludes that mere mind games never got anybody anywhere, and resumes his previous strategy of punching the Cryogonal to pieces. Frost, however, isn't quite so keen to abandon tactics. Its spooky blue eyes glow an ominous shade of yellow, prompting a flashing orb of light to appear in the air before it. Almost of its own accord, the eerie cluster of energy weaves its way haphazardly through the air, traveling in the general direction of Enver. The Buneary becomes transfixed by its psychedelic yet mesmerising phosphoresence, and for several moments, as long as he stares into its addictive shimmering glow, nothing else matters. Eventually, Zhorken gets tired of waiting for Enver to snap out of it and attack, and a rock upside the head soon persuades the Buneary to reassess his priorities. Wrapping his fist in a brownish aura, he rushes at Frost, his glowing fist raised and the odd sphere of light following alongside him at about eye level. Though the trippy orb of colours keeps up well enough to be readily visible in Enver's peripheral vision, he forces himself to ignore it, pouncing at Frost with a yelp of exertion and dealing a savage blow to Frost's face. The Cryogonal grunts and recoils from the impact, while several orbs of life energy somehow knocked loose from its body swarm to Enver and replenish his health.

All this abuse is really starting to take it out of Frost. Physically, it's not in all that bad a condition, but it simply can't handle this wretched sunshine any longer. Its body radiates another icy blue aura, commanding the thick grey hailclouds to roll back over the sky, blocking out that pesky sun and replacing it with cold, murky mugginess. Then, the piéce de resistance; hordes of murderous hailstones, hurtling from the skies to deal cold, wrathful violence upon anyone foolish enough to stand innocuously out in the open minding their own business. Enver gives a whimper of annoyance at the premature termination of his Sunny Day, and while the camera crew rush to get their equipment to shelter before it gets smashed, Enver braves out the weather and runs at Frost to deliver another health-sapping punch. Putting the distraction of the curious wisp tailing him out of his mind once more, he succeeds in reaching Frost, and deals it another vicious blow to the face. Enver draws off another respectably ample quantity of stolen health, but no sooner has it diffused into his body than a tremendous hailstone crashes right into the back of his head. He yelps in pain, turning to inspect the size of the thing while rubbing the bruise already forming on his scalp.

With the arena transformed back into its ideal winter wonderland, Frost feels much more at home again. However, it's not quite content with mere hail; the arena won't truly be to its liking until it's wrapped in the glacial fury of a full-blown snowstorm! Taking a deep gulp of breath, it holds it for several moments before exhaling it in a misty blast of frigid fog. The bitterly cold cloud expands to fill the entire arena, bringing with it a tremendous wind that swirls the falling hailstones into a deadly funnel of snow. The wind knocks Enver right off his feet, flinging him around like a ragdoll and pummeling every inch of his body with ice, before suddenly dispersing, flinging the frozen, bewildered rabbit high into the air and dropping him down into a pile of hailstones. After taking a few moments to recuperate, Enver climbs slowly to his feet with a groan, massaging his sore body while Frost looks on with glee at his misery. The Cryogonal's mirth is short-lived, however, as its opponent suddenly bounds toward it, raising a paw coated in a familiar brown aura. Enver's fist slams brutally into Frost's face as he leaps up to strike the snowflake, catapulting it several feet into the air with a groan of shock and agony and raining spheres of life energy down on Enver, which he gladly absorbs. Along with them, though, comes another shower of hailstones, which smash into Enver's bruises and shave off a small portion of what vitality he managed to recuperate.

Frost grunts furiously as it rights itself and hovers back to its proper elevation. Clearly, its snowy onslaughts have not yet managed to suitably subdue the bunny, so it lets out another blast of freezing air, summoning another artic windstorm to wear Enver down. As soon as the wind increases, the Buneary knows what's coming, but before he can think to get out of the way, a wave of hailstones distract him just long enough for the winds to wrap around him. Enver yelps in agony as the funnel of wind encapsulating him launches hailstone after hailstone into his beaten, crippled body, until finally to his relief it dies down once more. No matter, he thinks to himself, striding gingerly toward Frost. I can easily patch myself back up... With a shriek of fury, he bounds at Frost once again, smashing his glowing fist into the Cryogonal's face before it can react and sapping a respectable portion of its health. Landing on his feet, Enver looks around urgently for shelter, but the hailstorm is too quick for him as a horde of stones soar down and smack against his head with a worryingly-loud crack.

While Enver curses vehemently at the skies and rubs his scalp, Frost lets out a sadistic chuckle. If you hate the hail so much, Enver, go up there and tell it to its face, it thinks, exhaling another freezing breath of air. While the Buneary is busy yelling at the sky, the frigid winds catch him by surprise once again, hurling him skyward in a swirling vortex of ice. Shrieking in terror, he sails to the ground an lands with a loud crunch, with a clump of hailstones crashing down on top of him to add insult to injury. Truly sick of this sort of treatment, Enver staggers upright and rushed disorientedly forward to seek his revenge; however, at the very least opportune moment, a sparkle catches the corner of his eye, and he whips around to catch a glimpse of it. His eyes rest upon the rainbow-coloured, spectral ball of light Frost conjured last round; somewhat faint, but still as beautiful as ever. Enver stares deep into it, everything else in his vision melting into an indiscernible blur. Nothing else in the field is worth looking at except his sparkly, flashing little orb. So transfixed is he, that he completely forgets he's running full-tilt at Frost. His foot catches in a pothole, and with a yelp he collapses head-over-heels, rolling across the grass and collapsing in a tangled heap before his opponent. The Cryogonal stares down at Enver for a few seconds before letting loose a bout of riotous laughter, and Enver scowls furiously at the shiny thing for making him hurt himself and look like an idiot. The Buneary swears he hears it let out a faint cackle before it swirls away and out of sight.

(Oh, and Enver gets hit by hail too. I'm running out of ways to say that that could pass for not boring.)

Okay so if it's about to use Explosion at any point, use Protect. You're down to mild confusion, so I'll just have to trust your head now; it's not so bad that you messed up one Drain Punch, but it'd be bad if you took an Explosion.

Otherwise, Drain Punch away!

Well, first off, you'll want to use a Recover to ensure that you get a third action. That'll likely take up a hell of a lot of energy, so Chill after that. Finally, use Ice Beam.

Frost's sadistic guffaws at its opponent's injuries are sharply cut off as it emits a ragged, spluttering cough. It'd been too busy abusing the bunny to notice until now, but those Drain Punches have been wearing it out considerably. Time for a little pick-me-up! Closing its creepy glowing eyes, Frost surrounds its body with a bright white aura as its immune system goes into overdrive, and the cracks, dents and fissures littering his body patch themselves up with incredible speed. As much better as it feels, though, Frost's pain is replaced by exhaustion, its recovery having eaten up a rather significant amount of its energy.

Mortified at Frost having reversed so much of his hard work, Enver leaps at it with a snarl of fury, fist poised to deliver another punch which the worn-out Frost is too exhausted to apprehend. With a brutal crunch Enver's fist hammers against the snowflake's face, drawing off some of Frost's newly-restored health and bestowing it onto Enver. The rabbit doesn't get to enjoy much of his ill-gotten health, however, as another stream of hailstones is hurled down from the sky, pummeling his tender, bruised body.

Much as it desires to get even with Enver, Frost grudgingly decides its gretest priority is to rest up, and its eyes close again as it snatches a few brief minutes of rest. Enver is determined to see that Frost's rest is as unpeaceful as possible, running up to it with his fist raised high once again; even in the midst of its nap, however, Frost anticipates the attack, and deftly edges out of the way, sending Enver sprawling to the ground with a frustrated grunt. As he flounders to his feet, the bunny is struck by another wave of hailstones before the clouds retreat, allowing the sun to wash back over the field and causing Frost to recoil in discomfort at the sudden warmth.

Now the sun is invading its beautiful snowy kingdom again, Frost is through playing games. Cold air begins to condense at its mouth into a sphere of ice energy, which then hurtles across the field in a glacial beam, striking Enver and encasing him in a cocoon of ice crystals. Flailing, the Buneary manages to break free, and after recovering from the bitter chill afflicting every inch of his body, he bounds toward his opponent, determined to hit his mark this time- and duly misses again. At the last moment, Frost tilts away from Enver's course, and again the Buneary tumbled fruitlessly to the ground.

As Frost cackles cruelly at the bunny's continued failure, a rustle in the bushes catches everyone's attention; the Pidove therein hops out, inspecting the battlers with intruige. Recognising that a battle's going on, the plucky little bird's fighting spirit wells up, and it decides to join in. These two Pokémon look half-fainted; this shouldn't be hard!
