Kratos Aurion vs Chiropter (Ref: Negrek)

Woah-KAY, been putting this off too long. Lessee here… Well, there goes the Taunt-to-keep-them-from-chilling strategy… Good job anyway, Calvin. Now, Lydda… try to hit Ryousuke with a Dynamicpunch, first off. Next, if it looks like Don Quixote is going to manage to attack you, grab hold of Ryousuke with Strength, holding him so that he can’t get a hit in on you; try to use him to block Don Quixote’s attack, or at least maybe take some of the damage (more likely). If Don Quixote does not attack, however, I’d like you to Mimic Ryousuke’s Drain Punch, if he used it the previous action; if not, chill while sticking your head – just your head! – through one of the walls (let’s say, the red ASB Central one) to hopefully avoid the effects of Screech.

Next action, chill unless Don Quixote attacks, in which case use Double Team to dodge. If Ryousuke used Drain Punch on the previous action for some reason and you haven’t yet Mimicked it, do it now (but only if you’re not dodging).

Dynamicpunch@Ryousuke ~ Strength (use Ryousuke to block)/Mimic (Drain Punch)@Ryousuke/chill (stick head in wall) ~ chill/Double Team/Mimic (Drain Punch)@Ryousuke

Lydda concentrates energy into her fist, raising it above her head as it glows with golden-brown light. Ryousuke, meanwhile, looks up at the intensifying attack in wonderment, not fully understanding its meaning in his addled state. Up until the point where the typhlosion comes running at him, moving a bit awkwardly on her hind legs but swift enough nonetheless, that he realizes what exactly is in store for him. He starts to turn away, fighting with still mildly-cramped muscles in an attempt to move faster, but in the end he can't entirely avoid the attack. Lydda's dynamicpunch comes roaring down atop his head, slightly deflected by the lucario's attempt at escape but still quite powerful. The blaze of energy released when the attack connects, plus the powerful impact of paw on skull, is easily enough to floor Ryousuke, who falls clutching his cranium in agony.

Don Quixote, meanwhile, has as commanded lifted up his head to watch the proceedings. Unfortunately, all that he perceives, somewhat blearily, is Lydda giving Ryousuke a solid smack in the head, and one he probaby deserved, too--Don Quixote saw the way Ryousuke was eyeing the typhlosion. For now reassured of his love's faithfulness, the arcanine lets his head flop back to the floor and resumes chilling with a contented smile on his face. Ryousuke, by contrast, is fighting to regain his feet, but the disorienting dynamicpunch has left him addled and with a splitting headache, such that moving too fast makes the arena spin and his head throb. Several times he almost regains his feet, only to topple over again in confused collapse.

Lydda backs away from Ryousuke, splitting her gaze between her two opponents and feeling rather lonely without the presence of a teammate to cover one of them for her. Though both are incapacitated in one way or another, Lydda doens't know whether she'll be able to outlast them both. Most of her attention is concentrated on Don Quixote, from who the more dangerous attack will come. Ryousuke is still struggling, slightly cross-eyed, but his movements are increasingly hampered as paralysis clamps down on his body once more, until at last he is held rigidly in place, limbs extended at weird angles and a grimace of discomfort frozen on his face. Don Quixote, on the other hand, raises his head once more, sniffing at the air. His eyes have a distant look about them as he heaves himself to his feet, leaving a puddle of bloody slobber in his wake as he starts to trot towards Lydda. The typhlosion growls and reaches down, heaving Ryousuke off the floor and in front of her as Don Quixote breaks into a run, heading for the pair at top speed.

In the throes of a blind, pain-induced rampage, the arcanine doesn't even recognize the pokémon he's attacking as he hurls himself at Lydda and Ryousuke. Lashing out with claws and teeth, he tears into whatever he is presented with--which in this case happens to be Ryousuke rather than his true target. The lucario chokes out a strangled howl, unable to struggle either against his teammate or Lydda as Don Quixote tears into him. The typhlosion keeps a firm hold in him, turning slightly to always keep Ryousuke between herself and the mad arcanine as much as possible. Every now and then she winces as a slash manages to hit one of her arms or sides, but Rysousuke bears what is by far the worst of the assault. At last, as Don Quixote is exuberantly chewing on one of his legs, the lucario regains enough control of his muscles to kick his teammate away and wriggle free of Lydda's grasp. Staggering away from opponent and teammate alike, the bruised and unhappy lucario tries to gather his wits, headache pounding worse than ever. Closing his eyes, he rubs at his temples and, not for the first time, decides that he doesn't care what happens to him so long as he gets a break from this madness.

Don Quixote, meanwhile, continues to snap and growl at nothing as Lydda backs out of range, pawing at the air and raging on against nothing. In the end, he falls over sideways, thrashing around in the throes of a confused fit of anger, totally lost to reason.

Lydda, preoccupied as she is by Don Quixote's erratic behavior, fails to notice Ryousuke creeping up on her. Though his headache continues to torment him and his vision swims, the lucario is, for the moment, fully in control of his body and ready to take advantage. Concentrating fighting energy in his fist, he watches with vague queasiness as a shimmering veil of green and gold light springs up around his paw. Breaking into a charge, he slams a punch into Lydda's back, causing the typhlosion to roar with shock and whirl around. As she does so, long, glittering strips of green energy pull away from her body, swirling up Ryousuke's arm and sinking into his skin. The small jolt of recaptured energy causes the lucario to perk up a bit, his vision temporarily clearing, and he offers Lydda a confident grin. Unfortunately, now that the typhlosion has gotten a front-row seat to experience Ryousuke's drain punch, she's in the position of being prepared to replicate it. Thinking carefully about what she saw of Ryousuke's attack and how it affected her, she does her best to replicate it, pouring energy into her paw as she did earlier in the round but trying to modify it to sink into the foe's body and extract their energy, rather than simply causing explosive confusion. After a few tries, the typhlosion succeeds in conjuring up a green-tinged aura infused with fighting energy. She lashes out at Ryousuke, who barely has the time to frown before the punch connects with his chest, causing him to double over in pain. The typhlosion withdraws her paw, clinging strands of energy pulling away with it as Ryousuke's life's energy seeps back into Lydda and refreshes her slightly. The typhlosion is clearly flagging, though, breathing heavily and with her flames sputtering irregularly. Though better off than Ryousuke in terms of health, she has clearly taken a beating. The lucario, on the other hand, is utterly exhausted and feeling ill. Don Quixote, meanwhile, remains in the best physical condition but isn't acting very mentally stable at the moment.

Don’t worry, Lydda, you’re doing really well, just keep it up a bit longer. If all goes well, you should have one less opponent to worry about fairly soon.

Chill each action if Ryousuke has orders to Protect or Detect; if not, then on the first action send a Fire Blast his way. On all following actions, keep chilling if he’s Protecting or Detecting, or if none of your other options apply; Fire Blast him if you didn’t the previous action; and if he Endured a Fire Blast or for some reason it didn’t take him down, Tackle him.

Argh neither of you learns Taunt and that is bad D: Dammit, I knew there was a reason I was considering Kratos instead of Ryousuke at the beginning...

Ryou, I'm sorry, but you're just going to have to attempt to Endure the whole round. You should survive at least the first Fire Blast, which means Lydda will have to use the move a minimum of two times and lose energy for it. I was hoping to have her under 30% health this round, but that stupid mimicked Drain Punch screwed that over and unless the Don can hold up his end of the deal I don't have any choice other than to try and wear her down. Ugh.

Don Quixote, with any luck Lydda will have to use Fire Blast two times and Tackle on the last action, and that should leave her with a very tiny amount of energy left. That isn't very likely at all, given the fact that Ryou is nearly as statusfucked as you are and he probably won't have the energy to pull off two Endures, let alone three, but um. HE HAS TO TRY. AND SO DO YOU. So um... try this. I know you don't have hands, but you can at least attempt to use Strength to force Lydda through the ASB Central wall, right? Try to do that twice and then chill on the last action, and also chill any time you can't/won't attack.

Rising back to a full upright position with a grimace plastered across his muzzle, Ryousuke concentrates on doing no more than simply surviving the remainder of the round. He presses his palms together and closes his eyes, a blue aura springing up around his body as he braces for anything.

The lucario doesn't have long to wait before his defense is tested. The flames around Lydda's neck flare up, burning bright and hot despite the typhlosion's fatigue. She spits a large fireball at Ryousuke, and as it travels through the air, it unfurls into a blazing symbol that slams into the lucario. Lydda's aim is a little off, and only the outer edge of the attack catches the fighting-type. Nevertheless, the fire blast is extremely damaging, and the blue aura around Ryousuke flickers and dances, sweat breaking out on the lucario's brow as he endures, not giving an inch before the fury of the attack. Even his greatest degree of concentration can't protect him from the blackened, melted stripes up the side of his body where the fire blast struck: painful burns that threaten to sap his strength no matter his determination.

Lydda drops to all fours, panting raggedly. The last fire blast took a lot out of her--she's not sure if she can manage another one. The typhlosion isn't given much time to recover, though. Don Quixote's dazed thrashing comes to an end at last, and the arcanine rolls back onto his stomach, glaring around at the arena. Somewhere in the recesses of his confused brain the arcanine decides that Lydda is in danger and it's up to him to carry her off to safety, as any good knight would do for a damsel in distress. The typhlosion certainly looks as though she's in distress, head hanging and tongue lolling out. For some reason, though, she only seems more distressed when the arcanine runs up and grabs her by the shoulder in powerful jaws and begins trying to drag her away through the ASB Central wall. Lydda roars and snaps at Don Quixote, trying to crane her neck around so that she can get a good shot at the arcanine. Don Quixote doesn't even notice, dragging the typhlosion along with him despite all her efforts at resistance. His clones form a solemn honor guard, trotting by his side until Lydda glares at them and they evaporate into thin air, proven fakes by the fact that they don't have their teeth sunk into her flesh.

Ryousuke remains at the ready, glowing blue and in a defensive stance, but his endurance remains untried. Lydda twists and struggles in Don Quixote's grip, but his strength proves too powerful for her to overcome in her exhausted state. The typhlosion's paws scramble uselessly against the squishy floor, but she can't find enough purchase to tear herself free. She can't believe that Ryousuke managed to survive the fire blast, but now she can't even get at him with a tackle to finish the job. Don Quixote keeps on hauling her along with an unnerving single-mindedness. At last he draws close enough to the red wall to pull Lydda around so that she is between himself and the mysterious, glowing barrier, then force her forward until her side brushes up against it. In an instant the wall does what Lydda herself could not, wrenching the typhlosion from Don Quixote's jaws with a slurping noise. She disappears, and Don Quixote, satisfied, sits down in front of the wall, watching intently as though expecting to see an image of the typhlosion appear on its still surface.

Lydda is already far away, though. She appears in the middle of ASB Central, legs flailing on empty air for a moment before she crashes to the ground. The place is swarming with people and pokémon apparently too busy to pay any attention to typhlosion that appear from nowhere, much less alter their course to avoid such anomalies. Lydda lets out an uncharacteristic squeak as an onix looms over her, bearing down at a brisk clip, but rolling out of its path only brings her into conflict with a chattering group of trainers sweeping up the street. The typhlosion darts and dodges, trying to find an out-of-the-way place, but no matter where she goes, it seems she is somehow in danger of being crushed, trampled, or just attacked by an annoyed or heedless ASB Central resident. It's almost a relief to feel a sharp tug on her body that indicates the wall is pulling her back again, preparing to catapult her into battle once more.

Don Quixote bristles as the wall in front of him gurgles loudly, then spits Lydda back out. The typhlosion lands a few feet behind him and to his left, looking still more haggard than before. As soon as the typhlosion's tired eyes rest on Don Quixote, though, she forces herself to her feet and starts running back towards Ryousuke, intent on getting another attack in before the arcanine can grab her. Don Quixote, rather tipsy and unfocused, takes a little while to figure out exactly what's going on, but once he does he, too, struggles up to his paws and sets out after Lydda. You'd think those damsels would look out for themselves and stay out of distress after you've rescued them once, wouldn't you?

Tackling Ryousuke, who is still enduring, is somewhat like running into a brick wall. Lydda charges the lucario at top speed, throwing all her weight into the force of her tackle. The lucario doesn't yield at all before the attack, though, planted firm and steady. Lydda rams into him (uninjured)shoulder-first and then simply collapses in a heap at his feet, dazed and exhausted. How can Ryousuke still be standing? She just doesn't understand it, and at this point, she's too tired to care. All her mental effort is going towards keeping herself from passing out at the moment.

Don Quixote lopes up behind Lydda and bends down to grab one of her hind legs. The typhlosion groans and kicks half-heartedly at his face, but he's already backing up, dragging his opponent along with him. Realizing that this means another trip to ASB Central, Lydda claws weakly at the ground. She is too weary to put up a serious fight, though, and her slide back towards the red wall seems inexorable. Only her dead weight is preventing Don Quixote from hurling her through the wall as it is.

Meanwhile, Ryousuke lets go of his endure at last. He staggers, grunting as he raises a paw to the tender burns stretching down the side of his body. Like Lydda, he is teetering on the brink of exhaustion, and he's also in rough physical shape. Don Quixote, of course, is in good shape, albeit a bit out of his mind, dragging Lydda patiently back towards the portal to ASB Central.

Hah! I'm not losing to you twice, dude. Nuh-uh. If I can't have the Grand Festival then this will have to do!

Now obviously Lydda's only real hope is to chill; I can only imagine that struggling hard enough to break free of Don Quixote's grip will use up the last of her energy, as will trying to attack. If she doesn't chill, she'll at least try and take Ryou down with her, which I guess is theoretically possible (assuming that Negrek doesn't ref like I do and nerf the attack beyond all belief because she's using it with 1% energy). I'd really rather that this were a clean victory and that Ryou stayed nice and conscious, but we'll see what happens.

Don Quixote, just keep going! If you can force her through the wall before she can get a proper chill in (or complete a proper attack) then it's over. Assuming that I'm allowed to combine another attack with the dragging action, try to use Extremespeed to rush to the wall before Lydda can... whatever. If not, just keep going as you are. Either way, if Lydda hasn't already fainted then try and keep her safe behind the ASB Central wall with one more Extremespeed + Strength combo.

If the Don's "rescue attempt" works, Ryou, you shouldn't have to do anything--just chill the entire round. If it looks like he's not going to make it or if I can't combine Extremespeed with the end of Strength, try and distract Lydda with Screech on the first action and then just chill after that.

Ryousuke: Chill/Screech ~ Chill ~ Chill

If nothing can be combined with Strength: finish Strength ~ Extremespeed + Strength

Whoa-kay, Lydda, let's, um... well, let's see if you can at least take Ryou out before you go. Yes. Let's do that.

Buuuuut... I'm going to ere on the side of caution and get you some energy back first, so just chill for the first two actions. If you get dragged through the ASB Central wall again, don't struggle, and DO NOT TRY TO DODGE THE CROWD. I know you're fast enough to do so, but I really, really need you to voluntarily allow yourself to take the damage. Energy is more important than health right now.

Assuming After you've recovered a bit, take out Ryousuke with Ember. Blaze should be active now, so the boost from that should hopefully be enough for a one-hit ko.

Ryousuke wipes sweat from his brow with a forepaw, breathing heavily as he watches Don Quixote tug Lydda along. The typhlosion looks as though she's zoning out, her eyes shut and front paws fully extended as she is pulled backwards across the floor. If Don Quixote manages to get her through the wall, Ryousuke will get a chance to rest--but the fighting type groans as Don Quixote stops where he is, his eyes going unfocused.

Oh, come on, the lucario thinks. Not now. Are you serious? As though Ryousuke needed more proof that the universe hates him, the arcanine lets Lydda's leg fall from his mouth and bares bloodied teeth, snarling at something invisible. Sure enough, in seconds the Don Quixote is running around in circles, screaming something about windmills as he goes. Lydda lies where she's been dropped, looking as serene as ever.

It's only a matter of time before Don Quixote falls down and starts thrashing around again, Ryousuke knows. He lets out a very heartfelt screech--a piercing, high-pitched sound that causes Lydda to suddenly sit up, alert to danger and with her paws pressed over her ears. A quick look around shows her nothing she needs to watch out for, though, and so she flops back down and resumes chilling.

Meanwhile, Don Quixote is lying on the floor, chewing on one of his front legs, when the fog of confusion suddenly lifts. Deeply ashamed, the arcanine realizes that he's been shaming himself yet again, ignoring orders and behaving in an entirely unchivalrous manner. Chastising himself, he gathers his senses and rises, fixing his eyes on Lydda. For the moment, his sense of duty overcomes any feelings he might have for the typhlosion, and he doesn't hesitate to run over and grab the her leg again. Lydda winces but doesn't open her eyes; her instructions are to stay cool and chill no matter what, so she simply tries not to think of what the arcanine's grip on her leg portends.

This time, Don Quixote pours on the speed in addition to the power as he pulls Lydda across the floor, legs working up into a blur as he dashes the rest of the way over to the ASB Central wall. The typhlosion is bumped along in a most unpleasant fashion, but she tries to relax and concentrate on preserving her energy. Don Quixote gives one last, powerful heave and swings Lydda into the glowing red barrier, giving her up without complaint as the wall immediately sucks her in. Then he sits down, puffing and feeling sick. The poison afflicting his body is only getting worse, and he feels distinctly queasy at this point.

Ryousuke sits down, too, enjoying the fact that the stiffness has almost been worked out of his muscles. He takes up a meditative stance, legs crossed and paws palm-up on his knees. He could really use a relaxing meditation session, and with Don Quixote too tired to make a fuss and Lydda vacationing in ASB Central, he has reason to hope he might not be disturbed.

Meanwhile, on the other side of the wall, Lydda makes a heavy landing in ASB Central. This time, the typhlosion schools herself to not even peek at the crowd she can hear swirling around her and resist all urge to get up and run away at top speed. This reluctance to move in turn leads to the tripping of a machamp that had been out for a stroll down the sidewalk, which leads to being crushed beneath said dazed machamp while an onix (perhaps even the same one she'd seen the last time--it must be circling) proceeds to barrel over the both of them. The machamp is naturally peeved once it manages to get back to its feet, and though Lydda can't have known it with her eyes clamped shut, is about to give her a piece of its mind just as the barrier calls her back.

Don Quixote looks up as Lydda is spewed forth next to him again, looking much the worse for her brief jaunt in ASB Central--though, unfortunately, still quite conscious. What's worse, she then proceeds to open her eyes and get to her feet, moving closer to Ryousuke and breathing a great cloud of embers over him.

The meditating lucario gasps, brought abruptly back to reality as the burning cloud descends over him. Lydda's ember is even stronger than usual, her physical condition poor enough to unlock her deepest reserves of firepower and lend more bite to her fire attacks. Ryousuke fights against the ember as long as he can, swatting at the glowing flecks of fire that settle on his head and arms, but he can't put out them all, and terrible pain sweeps over his body as the ember descends upon him. In the end, it is too much for the long-suffering lucario; he collapses, unconscious, and is recalled right before Lydda's gloating eyes.

Well, we're running out of options, Lydda. Let's try this:

Otherwise... you still remember that Drain Punch, right? Use it ONCE, then keep chilling whether or not it succeeds.

Don Quixote scoots away from the red wall before settling down to rest. He doesn't trust this weird place, and its walls he likes least of all. Weary as he is, though, and with the burning of the toxic in his veins making his extremities ache, the arcanine is quite pleased to just lie down and chill.

He's going to have to hold off on that for the moment, though, as Lydda has other plans. The typhlosion still remembers drain punch quite well and doesn't hesitate to put it to good use. Trotting over to Don Quixote, Lydda rears up on her hind paws, her clenched first beginning to glow with brownish light and surrounded by small threads of green energy. Thinking back on Don Quixote's irritating penchant for grabbing her and hauling her around the room in a most uncomfortable and degrading fashion, she slams a punch into his furry back with extra relish.

The arcanine gasps, stunned by the force of the punch--it is much greater than he had expected. Thick trails of green light wind up along Lydda's arm, and the typhlosion closes her eyes as energy is siphoned into her from her opponent. Once he recovers from the shock, Don Quixote weakly pulls himself away, a last couple of strands of green light stretching, then breaking silently as he escapes the attack's influence. At last able to rest in peace, he closes his eyes and lays his head on his paws.

Lydda, meanwhile, opens and closes the paw used to deliver the punch, savoring the zing of vitality spreading throughout her body. The wounds inflicted on her during her last ASB Central visit close up entirely, and there's even a little left over to improve her general health. Quite satisfied, Lydda stretches out on the floor and joins Don Quixote in chilling. She doesn't even stir as the arcanine himself rises, giving himself a little shake and stretching briefly. He feels much, much better after that little interlude, even considering the shock of the drain punch. That attack burned off any lingering affection he might have had for Lydda, and the chill cleared his head as well; no longer is his mind scattered and uncertain--he remembers now, of course, that he's a most noble knight of great prowess and renown, faithful servant of the fair Dulcinea.

With his identity and purpose once more firmly ingrained in his mind, the arcanine is prepared to end this fight. Taking a couple of steps back, he puts a bit of space between him and Lydda before charging and throwing himself into the air. He lands heavily and square atop the typhlosion, whose eyes fly open as a strangled noise escapes her throat. Being hit by over three hundred pounds of canine is hardly pleasant, and Lydda experiences worse than the breath getting knocked out of her. She feels frozen, totally unable to move; the arcanine's crushing weight has shocked her into paralysis, and it is all she can do to turn her head as the arcanine picks himself up again, preparing for another run.

Don Quixote catches Lydda's pleading look but remains unmoved. The typhlosion has impinged upon his honor and defeated his (admittedly somewhat incompetent) squire; there can be no mercy for her. Once more the arcanine throws himself atop Lydda, with the heavy blow firmly resolving that the events of this battle will be put behind him, namely his attraction to Lydda--no more than a foul enchantment, entirely the fault of the typhlosion herself. Surely no one can accuse him of anything else, after he was so dutiful in finishing Lydda off. And indeed, Lydda cannot withstand a second mighty body slam; the typhlosion shudders as he slams her against the floor once more but then lies still, knocked out.

Victorious!

Don Quixote steps away from Lydda and sits neatly beside her, snout in the air in the most regal pose he can muster. The effect is somewhat ruined by the wounds dotting his thick pelt, many of which are self-inflicted, but the arcanine cuts a fine figure nonetheless. Lydda is recalled, and Kratos Aurion and Chiropter meet at the center of the room to exchange a handshake. The weird, clashing light of the three walls lends a surreal atmosphere to the scene, but the damage the pair have done is real enough; the floor of the place is scorched and spattered here and there with blood. Once Don Quixote has been recalled and the trainers have gone their separate ways, though, the boulders conjured over the course of the battle sink quietly into the floor, burned patches rippling and bubbling until they have grown a new, sticky-looking white skin, and blood puddles swirl down to nothing, as though sucked away by some greedy parasite. At last the room is returned to its original form, quiet and empty--waiting, patiently, for the next challengers to arrive.

Calvin gets one EXP, Ryousuke gets two and Lydda each get two, and Don Quixote gains three. Chiropter gets $6 consolation, Kratos Aurion receives $16 for the victory, and I get $10 for reffing. Good match, both of you!

Huh, I thought I posted this already.

Anyway, hooray for math! Um, I mean, hooray for the Don! You did splendidly, my boy, just as I knew you would. Well done to you as well, Ryou. We could've done without the attitude, but hey, you got rid of the Absol so it's okay.

That was a lot of fun, Chiropter (pthhpt I told you I wasn't losing to you twice in a row). We'll have to do it again some time.

Definitely, anytime, Kratos. This was excellent.

And good job, Lydda! You did your best, and it was closer than I was expecting, in the end. (Hopefully Don Quixote won't hold too much of a grudge against you, heh.)
