• Welcome to The Cave of Dragonflies forums, where the smallest bugs live alongside the strongest dragons.

Guests are not able to post messages or even read certain areas of the forums. Now, that's boring, don't you think? Registration, on the other hand, is simple, completely free of charge, and does not require you to give out any personal information at all. As soon as you register, you can take part in some of the happy fun things at the forums such as posting messages, voting in polls, sending private messages to people and being told that this is where we drink tea and eat cod.

Of course I'm not forcing you to do anything if you don't want to, but seriously, what have you got to lose? Five seconds of your life?

What forum host should I use?

Hi there! I want to host a forum but I'm unsure about which one should I use. Could somebody tell me which one is really good. Thanks!

Tell us more. What is this forum for? Do you already have experience with forum software? Do you need any specific features or addons/plugins? Do you care about learning how to skin it yourself, if not write plugins for it? Do you just want something quick and easy and not worry about modifying it at all? etc.. The less vague you are, the more helpful the responses will be.

Of course, regardless, I'd recommend creating a free test forum and playing around with the admin panel and features yourself, see how comfortable you are with it. Places like Zetaboards and InvisionFree and whatever don't care if you do that sort of thing just for testing purposes, and then if you decide you like it you can either stick with your test board or make a new one.

I used invisionplus once. It seemed more friendly than invisionfree was towards new users. But invisionfree has a good customer support system. Plus your url was a little easier to remember. They do it as domain.invisionplus.com. But invisionplus has been having issues lately and is basically shut down.

Short, Zetaboards or Invisionfree are the better options.

Let it be known that the version of IPB that all those sites run is nearly ten years old.

I prefer to self-host my forums, but as far as hosted forums go I would recommend CreateMyBB and Forumer.
