Round twelve

As the swirling sand around the two battlers begins to weaken, Steelbird is able to spot his tiny foe a little more easily. He narrows his cold, yellowy eyes at his prey and watches as the crestfallen Trapinch summons up a shimmering shield around herself. The translucent barrier flickers in and out of existence before Pix manages to stabilize it, and she squeezes her eyes shut as she cowers behind it.
Steelbird caws mockingly, then simply turns away from the frightened Pix and begins another frenzied war dance. The clash of steel on steel rings throughout the stadium as Steelbird repeats the flashy series of moves, swooping around with surprising speed. He finally completes the dance and lands gracefully on the ground, digging his talons into the dirt and flexing his sharpened wings.
He moves about restlessly as he sees Pix drop her protect shield and glance up nervously. She didn’t hear all the fuss from behind the sound proof barrier, but she can’t help but think the Skarmory looks even more vicious than before, if that was possible.

Eager to get on the offence again, Steelbird utters a harsh cry before zooming skyward and swooping down towards his foe like a missile.
Pix squeaks fearfully, and reacts as quick as her weakened body will allow. She digs her stubby legs into the cracked earth and grits her jaws together, focusing with all her might. A dim, shimmering aura of pure energy surrounds her body as she braces herself for the impact.
Steelbird traces another wide arc in the air before his wicked beak makes contact with the cringing Trapinch. A muffled hiss escapes Pix as she’s pushed into the earth by the force and left with a searing pain running throughout her tiny form. Steelbird quickly flaps backward after striking, landing on an upturned slab and eyeing the injured Trapinch with a predatory gaze.

With a great effort, Pix manages to push herself to her feet again, her face contorted in pain. This definitely isn’t going well, and her trainer isn’t exactly being encouraging either…
She groans wearily as she hears another ear piercing cry, and spots the Skarmory zooming around in a circle again, getting ready to strike. Steelbird spreads his bladed wings wide then streams towards his tiny foe, his sharp beak glinting. Pix closes her eyes and cowers down, her jaws gnashing together. Steelbird collides again with brutal force, his sharp beak digging into the Trapinch's tough skin. Pix cringes away, yanking her feet out of the loosened ground and cursing to herself. She sways unsteadily, and struggles to focus on her foe, but she can't see much more than a big grey and red blur. Well, that'll have to do...
She takes the plunge, and dives at the blur with all her remaining strength, bashing and gnashing and flailing madly. Steelbird caws irritably as the tiny projectile collides with his armour. Ugh, not this again... She puts up a better show than before, but it's not quite enough to make much of a dent, and Steelbird simply swats her away again, much to her disdain.

Meanwhile, the sand swirling around the battlefield begins to die down and the air finally starts to clear. Soon, the sandstorm has faded completely, and the two battlers are clearly visible in the sandy, disheveled stadium.

Round thirteen

With the air now clear, Steelbird has a plain view of his semi-concious opponent, who is looking very small and vulnerable in the midst of the ruined arena. The Skarmory utters a scornful caw before taking off into the air again, preparing to deliver the finishing strike.
Pix grimaces as she hears the call, and struggles to focus her bleary gaze on the danger above. She gnashes her jaws and digs her feet into the earth, trying to keep herself alert as she slowly begins generating another protect shield. Unfortunately, it proves much more difficult than her previous efforts, the translucent barrier shimmers and flickers in and out of existence, and Pix is left looking panicked as she struggles mightily to maintain it.
Steelbird cries out another warning call, his cold eyes glinting, and barrels down toward the flustered Pix, his wicked beak pointed at her like a missile. Pix cries out in desperation, and tries to strengthen her feeble shield, but Steelbird dives down and smashes right through it, digging his beak into the unfortunate Trapinch.
Pix can only manage a muffled croak before she is forced down into the earth by the impact, and left lying in the dust.
Byrus takes a moment to survey Pix's condition, then quickly signals the end of the match. Glancing over at his fallen foe, Steelbird lands on the ground and lets loose a loud, screechy victory cry.

Status: A WINNER IS ME

Steelbird does a victory lap around the stadium, swooping through the air with gusto. Sure, it wasn't a very challenging fight, but it's not every so often you win so spectacularly.
Blade ignores the smug bird, and praises the little Trapinch for her efforts as he recalls her. She may not have been victorious, but she will get to evolve at least. One step closer to Flygon, who is blessed with the mighty flamethrower...
When Steelbird is done crowing, Rock-ground recalls the triumphant bird in a flash of red light, and both trainers shake hands. It was certainly an eventful battle, if the state of the stadium indicates anything. All three trainers look around nervously, then hastily say their goodbyes and retreat, all the while hoping they aren't going to get sued over minor property damage or something... Well, they can always blame it on the ref.

rock-ground gets $16, RespectTheBlade gets $6 and I get $10.

Darkness, Pix and Steelbird get 2 experience points each while Drake gets 1.

Good match guys.
