Default [11] Negrek vs Chiropter (ref: RespectTheBlade)

1 vs 1
DQ Time: 3 Days
Damage Cap: 35%
Banned Moves: OHKO's, attacks that require terrain resources (e.g. water, rocks, or plants), weather attacks
Terrain: Nimbasa City Music Hall

As the TCoD League championship moves on from Castelia City, the next stop is Unova's recreation hotspot, Nimbasa City. There are all kinds of attractions to choose from: the ferris wheel, the sports domes, and even the battle subway, perhaps a natural choice for a pokémon tournament. But let's be serious--these all pale into comparison to the real reason you'd want to visit Nimbasa City. After all, you haven't really lived until you've stuck a moustache on your Arceus and then chuckled to yourself as you watched the creator of the pokémon world prancing and rolling across the stage next to a patrat wearing cowboy boots.

Yes, the league is taking to the stage and setting its next round of battle to music. The battle takes place on one of the four Music Hall stages (Stardom, Forest Stroll, A Sweet Soiree, or Exciting Nimbasa), selected at random. The different backdrops have no effect on the battle. In addition, trainers may dress their pokémon up in any way that they wish, although costumes will also have no effect on the battle (even if they include things like weapons or props that would ordinarily be useful in a fight). However, they can also choose the music that will play during each round, and different tunes will have different effects on the pokémon battling.

Battles for this round will begin with the posting of each player's active squad as usual. After that, however, each player PM's their choice of pokémon, a description of that pokémon's costume, and their selection of songs and their effects to the referee. Each player chooses five songs and comes up with effects for them (appropriate effects are described below); these will be played in order, one during each round of battle, and the player who is ordering first in that round is always the one who will have his or her song playing during that round. Once the pokémon and songs have been received from both players, the referee will randomize which player gives commands first, then posts what pokémon each player will be using and the song (and the effects it will have on the battle) that will play for the first round--the first song on the list for the player who orders first in the first round. From that point forward, commands proceed as normal, with the referee posting the next song and its effects at the end of each round. If neither pokémon has been knocked out at the end of ten rounds, the winner will be determined by totaling each pokémon's health and energy, the same way it was during the previous round.

Any sort of music can be specified as the song for a given round, but please don't pick something offensive. Don't make me regret not restricting you to songs without lyrics, that is. A song can have a variety of effects on the battlefield, whether raising the power of some kinds of attacks for that round to healing status ailments. However, they must affect both pokémon equally--you can't have only your pokémon get an attack boost, for example. However, it's fine if you specify an effect that, due to the nature of your pokémon, will not affect the opponent the same as your pokémon; for example, if you specify that both pokémon will become severely poisoned but send out a steel-type, then your pokémon will not be poisoned even though your opponent's might. Effects that would ordinarily last multiple rounds (like trick room, weather attacks, or status conditions), if caused by a song, will last only for that round, and you can ask for weather effects even though pokémon won't be able to create them with their attacks. Effects always come into play at the beginning of the round, before either pokémon has the opportunity to act; thus, if a song will cause both pokémon to be burned, they will start out the round burned, and the burn can't be prevented by any of their attacks (i.e. you can't block a first-action burn with a safeguard).

Songs are restricted to causing damage/energy swings of no more than 3% (e.g. "All fire attacks cause 3% more damage after all effects" or "All fire attacks cost 3% less energy after all effects) and causing stat boosts/reductions of no more than two levels. They may also have only one effect: they cause hail to come into play or they increase fire-type attack damage by 3% or they cause both pokémon to fall asleep or they cause both pokémon to become paralyzed, etc., not any combination thereof. They also may not prevent the pokémon from acting in a round, e.g. "neither pokémon can use damaging attacks this round" or "neither pokémon can act this round", ban one or more attacks for the round, or alter the pokémon's movepools.

If you don't want to go to the trouble to figure out a set of songs for yourself and/or don't want your pokémon to fight in costume, then just let your referee know when you choose which pokémon to send out. They will come up with a list of randomly-selected pokémon-related songs with associated effects and then PM them back to you, so that you retain the advantage of knowing what will happen on each one of "your" song rounds. (Or, if the referee doesn't want to do that either, they can PM me and I'll provide the music for that player instead.)

Alright, are both contestants ready? They are? Good.

First, we have Negrek's Espeon, Liberalis; who is not dressed up, but very well groomed and bathed. Next, we have Chiropter's Typhlosion, Lydda, dressed in pirate attire; complete with a crimson waistcoat, a leather sash and belt, and a very fine tri-cornered hat. She also is wearing one golden earring and a sheathed cutlass, hanging from her belt.

The RNG declares that Chiropter will attack first. Three Australian Bush Songs will be playing, casting a Sunny Day on the entire arena.

Now, without further ado, begin!

Hmm, let's see if we can't improve on our performance in that previous second-round-tournament-battle-vs-Negrek...

All right, Lydda, get out there and muss up Liberalis' pretty fur! Start with a Flame Charge, then let loose with an Eruption (if Liberalis has dug underground at this point, send the attack right down the hole). After that, keep taking advantage of our song with another Flame Charge.

If at any point she tries to Yawn you to sleep, immediately Mimic it back at her (only do this once).

If she Bides on the first action, Counter the release of energy on the third.

Flame Charge/Mimic (Yawn) ~ Eruption/Mimic (Yawn) ~ Flame Charge/Mimic (Yawn)/Counter

Well, here we are; another second-round battle against Chiropter. Let's make it a good one! And it's sunny to start with, too... espeon love sun, but I fear typhlosion love it more.

There's two ways we can do this, Liberalis. If you can, dig under the stage to get out of the way of Lydda's flames. If ripping up the boards would be too difficult for you, perhaps punching a hole in them with psybeam would work as well? Then just drop through and get out of direct line of sight from the hole to prevent anything falling on you; stages are usually mostly hollow.

Follow it up by using growth, then attacking with psychic. If you're too far away to hit Lydda from down there, instead set up a future sight.

Dig / Psybeam (at floor, go through hole) ~ Growth ~ Psychic / Future Sight

If you don't think you'll be busting that stage open anytime soon, we'll do this the hard way. Get buffed with growth, then quick attack into Lydda's chest and stick your claws in to cling there. She's not going to be dropping eruption on her own head, so as long as you stay stuck to her you should be safe. Then let go and blow her across the stage with a psychic.

Growth ~ Quick Attack (cling) ~ Psychic

Round 1

Nimbasa City is known to most as the entertainment capital of Unova. The Battle Subway attracts all those in want of a challenge. The sports domes lure fans from around the world, even those from different regions. Nimbasa’s theme park is known for its Ferris wheel and gym/roller coaster. The Battle Institute has even acquired new members and participants through the publicity the city receives. However, one of Nimbasa’s most popular attractions is the Pokémon Musical. The very thought of dressing a Serperior in a cane, top hat, and monocle is dizzying for even some of the most hardcore battlers. It is here that the 2nd round of the 2011 Asber League Tournament takes place. However, the rules of the Musical have changed from their regular standing. Rather than dancing, the Pokémon will be trying their hardest to knock the other out. Of course, the participants are allowed to dress up their Pokémon as they wish. This particular battle is bound to be a good one. Negrek stands on one side of the field, Premier Ball in hand. She stares down her opponent, Chiropter. He stands clutching a Poké Ball. The two have met in battle before, and in the second round of a league competition, no less. The ref asks both to call out their Pokémon. Negrek tosses her ball on to the field, and out pops an incredibly well groomed and bathed Espeon, the jewel on its forehead shining in the light of the stadium. Chiropter sends out a Typhlosion, standing tall in her savvy pirate gear. The ref, sensing the tension between the two parties, decides that this would be a good time to clear out of the way and let the battle begin. As he raises his flags, a choir begins singing from the speakers on the stadium, and the lights intensify, casting a Sunny Day effect on the battlers.

Round One Begin!

The stage lights beat down on the battlers and their pokemon. Lydda in particular looks pleased with the weather, and she feels ready to show the little purple cat her stuff. But, before she can, Liberalis begins to glow with a greenish tinted light. She grows signifigatly larger, becoming almost as large as a Houndoom. Liberalis also smirks after her growth spurt is complete, she seems to be more powerful as well. Lydda is a little put off by the super-sized espeon, but nevertheless she charges into battle. Literally. The flames on Lydda's back grow larger, and her coat catches fire as well. After a few moments, she is completely cloaked in fire, her clothes protected by their fireproof properties. The heat and intensity of the flames is more intense due to the harsh lights bearing down on the field. Lydda then charges towards Liberalis and tackles her, her speed increased by the burning flames. Liberalis is knocked back towards one end of the stage, her nice coat somewhat ruined by the fire. As Lydda's burning coat gradually puts itself out, she still feels just as fast as when she was atacking.

With her new boost in speed, Lydda knows she can attack before Liberalis. She begins to charge up one of her strongest attacks, but before she gets far enough along with the charging process, Liberalis turns nearly invisible and pounces on to Lydda, digging her claws into the Typhlosion and hanging on for dear life. Lydda screams in frustration and pain. (but mostly pain.) Rather than dropping a volcano's worth of flaming rocks on the the heads of both her and the Espeon, Lydda flails and struggles about very un-gracefully, trying to dislodge the Espeon from her body. After a few minutes worth of intense struggling, Lydda is finally able to throw Liberalis off of her. Yet, to Lydda, it seems like she willingly let go. Lydda just can't imagine why.

Furious at the Espeon, Lydda intensifies her flames further, and coats her body in fire once again. She charges the Espeon in a head on football tackle and knocks the purple cat back more, making sure to cause as much damage to the espeon's well groomed coat as possible. Liberalis finally begins to notice her state, and furious at her ruined coat, she turns to attack Lydda. The Espeon's eyes glow a vivid purple, and Lydda suddenly feels herself floating, enveloped in a purple aura of the same color. In a flash, Liberalis flings Lydda across the stage and into the wall. She then pulls her back and slams her into the wall again, before finally bringing her back to the stage and dropping her onto the polished hardwood. Lydda stands up and glares at Liberalis, a bit sore from being flung into a couple walls. Liberalis returns the glare, equally angry at Lydda for ruining her fur. The ref notes that the match is becoming a very heated one. (Pardon the pun.) As the round ends, the song ends as well, and the lights dim to their normal setting.

Ref's Notes:
-I know this is long overdue, and I'm sorry this is so late. I started school and everything, but now that I've gotten into a schedule, I should be able to keep up with the DQ time now.
-Growth raised Atk. and Sp. Atk by 2 each due to bright sun.
-The way I pictured the musical hall, the stage was made of a cement platform, and then floored with wood. It made sense to me, as I haven't seen any trapdoors or anything, and the stage can hold the weight of very heavy pokemon. Therefore, Liberalis could not punch through the floorboards, and she went with Negrek's second strategy instead.
-Lydda used Struggle instead of Eruption for two reasons: 1). She didn't want to drop the rocks on her head as well, which would have damaged her with the full force of the attack, and 2). she was in too much pain from Liberalis digging her claws into her to concentrate on her commands.
-Quick Attack did 2% more damag because of Liberalis digging her claws into Lydda.

Next Round:
-Celebrity Status by Marianas Trench will be playing, causing all moves that play on the target's emotions (Swagger, Taunt, Attract, Torment, etc.) have their effects replaced with those of Flatter.
-Negrek attacks
-Chiropter attacks

Excellent work, Liberalis! Let's keep the pressure on.

Start off with light screen, and follow with psychic and psybeam. On those last actions, switch your primary attack out for swift if Lydda has clones and calm mind if she's protecting, detecting, or otherwise inaccessible.

Light Screen ~ Psychic / Swift / Calm Mind ~ Psybeam / Swift / Calm Mind

According to it's description, yes, I believe it would. The damage would be removed, though.

Darn. On to Plan B...

Good work, Lydda, keep it up! Now, even though you're faster, I'd like you to wait for Liberalis to set up her Light Screen, then Mimic it for yourself. Once you've done that, make yourself a 15% Substitute; finally, go ahead and Rest off all that damage.

Don't worry about leaving yourself open for the next round - I think Liberalis might be a little... distracted.

Mimic (Light Screen) ~ Substitute (15%) ~ Rest

Round Two Begin

Liberalis decides to begin the round by creating some protection for herself. Her eyes glow purple for a brief second, and then she is surrounded by a shield of yellow light. It forms a circle around her. Unbeknownst to Liberalis, though, Lydda had studied her every move, and to the best of her ability, mimicked it. The result is an identical shield of yellow light surrounding the Typhlosion. However, Lydda appears to be somewhat frustrated with the upkeep of hers, and seems to be focusing a lot more energy on keeping the barrier up.

Liberalis, seeing Lydda’s frustration through her screen, attempts to destroy it in one go. She focuses some spare attention on Lydda, and tries to fling her across the arena. Purple energy flows towards Lydda at a rapid pace. The Light Screen blocks and disperses a small portion of Liberalis’s attack, but the majority of it manages to seep through and envelop Lydda. It then flings her towards the wall again. Lydda concentrates on the screen best she can, ignoring the pain. Lydda flies through the air, skids on the stage, and comes to a stop at the wall. Barely able to stand, Lydda nearly loses focus on the screen, and it flickers for a few moments as she tries to regain her bearings. After a few moments, Lydda refocuses and is able to keep the screen up. She then decides to create some extra protection from any forthcoming attacks. She blows a stream of fire in front of her, and Liberalis jumps back to avoid it. However, the flames don’t head anywhere near Liberalis, and instead form a Typhlosion-like shape right in front of Lydda’s light screen. A stream of energy flows from Lydda to the Substitute, imbuing it with life. Lydda, looking somewhat weary, sits down inside he light screen, tired from the loss of life energy.

Swathed in a purple light, Liberalis clears her mind of anything relating to the environment around her, focusing only on her screen, the substitute, and Lydda. Feeling slightly more in control of the situation, she then stands, wary of Lydda’s next move. To her disappointment, All Lydda does is lie down and close her eyes, protected by her blazing substitute. Lydda begins to glow with a white-blue light, and though she is fast asleep, her wounds seem to be healing themselves rapidly. Worried, Liberalis awaits her trainer’s commands, in hope that she can stop, or at least delay, the Typhlosion’s return to full health.

-It cost Lydda 2% extra energy to use Light Screen due to it being mimicked.
-Psychic did less damage due to the light screen. (I ref lightscreen as adding +1 Sp. Def to all those affected.)
-Liberalis used Calm Mind last action because Lydda herself was "inaccesable".
-At the time of using rest, Lydda was down by 54% health. She restored 18% energy last action and will restore 18% energy per action until she wakes up.(two more actions)
-It is costing both pokemon 1% energy per action to keep light screen up. They may choose to dissapate the barrier at any time.
-Sorry for the lateness, Negrek, school's sorta been getting in the way. I'll try to keep up with this best I can.

Next Round:
-Agony from Into The Woods will be playing. Both pokemon become attracted to each other. (if no alternate gender pokemon are present, the same effect occurs as the pokemon are distracted by imaginary visions of their significant others and/or ideal mates).

Well, Lydda, between attraction, the light screen, and the sub, you should be good for a few actions, so go ahead and chill while you finish resting. (If for any reason - can't think of one, but just in case - you're prevented from chilling, just do nothing.) Once you wake up, see if you can't Covet Liberalis' berry from her. If she Protects or Detects that action, either Howl or, if you were unable to at all while resting, chill.

Chill/do nothing ~ chill/do nothing ~ Covet/Howl/chill

(Oh, and try not to be too embarrassed when you wake up and your trainer is singing along with the music...

Aaaaaagonyyyyyy! Far more painful than yours!...)

All right, Liberalis, I know you're feeling a bit distracted by visions of the mon of your dreams, here. Unfortunately, Lydda is in the same egg group as you, and, well, I'm afraid you've got a little competition for the guy's affection. Luckily for you, now's the perfect time to kill two birds with one stone: show off your strength to your beau and kick the competition to the curb in one fell swoop.

Start off by pummeling Lydda with zen headbutts, then finish by envisioning for her an absolutely nasty future in which you get the guy and she gets nothing but an ignominious loss. Oh, and drop your light screen, too; wouldn't want to obscure your crush's view of your awesome butt-kicking, would you?

If you find yourself just too dreamily distracted, though, you might as well relax and enjoy the moment as much as possible. Go ahead and chill.

Now... time to strut your stuff!

-------------------------------------

Celebrity Status comes to an abrupt end, and after a short pause, Agony begins, turning the musical once again into, well, a musical. Lydda twitches in her sleep, and her substitute mirrors the twitch from atop the original, dutifully protecting her even while they sleep. A dream sequence permeates Lydda's unconscious mind, deep though she is in a trance which isn't quite sleep. She's up on the deck one night, slumped over the side after too much grog, hoping none of the crew comes by and sees their captain like this. The ship is anchored, though, so she's the only one above deck, and the damn Pelipper on lookout in the crow's nest is asleep, so she's not all that worried. She spies something fishy on the horizon, though. Looks like smoke. Might be worth rousing the lad... She spits a ball of fire up in the direction of the crow's nest, then immediately curses her drunken stupidity. The lookout's still asleep, but who knows who else might have spotted that? At least the wind's dead, so no-one will be coming after them at the moment... But wait, the smoke is getting closer.

As it approaches, it becomes clear that something's running on top of the water, towards the ship, and the water is evaporating into great clouds of steam behind it. The dog—no, lion—beast—stops just close enough to make out by the moonlight, and Lydda just stares. She remembers all the legends she loved as a child about a Pokémon that raced around the world and made volcanoes erupt when it roared. And she's heard all the shanties about a great beast of fire out at sea; she always figured those were about her. But it couldn't be...? As quickly as it came, the beast bounds off. Lydda keeps staring after it until she can't see any steam, then makes up her mind. As soon as the wind picks up, she's sailing after it.

Liberalis, meanwhile, can't take her eyes off a certain spot some feet in front of her. There, as far as she can tell, stands her perfect lover on the toes of two long feet: tall, gray, and handsome, with an elegant purple tail sweeping back and a vaguely feline head on top of which sit, in her opinion, the most adorable ear-nubs. Or whatever they are; she's not quite sure. (And something resembling fairly impressive pecs, too, but the Espeon doesn't make that connection, being, well, an Espeon.) She finds herself sympathizing with Rapunzel's prince as he sings about his plight. Though her charmer is said to live deep in a dungeon, not a tower, Liberalis certainly does have her sights set out of her reach. Far, far out of her reach—she's not terribly sure the object of her affections would even be capable of returning any of them, even if they were just a couple of doors (and a ten-foot descent) apart. Regardless, she's very unlikely to ever come any closer than this illusion; that, if anything, is worth agonizing over.

So, with a feeling of concession, she decides she may as well enjoy pretending while the illusion lasts. While something as frivolous as egg groups couldn't possibly be an issue given the particular Pokémon of her fantasies, her trainer has a point, a display of power would be an excellent place to start if she were to have any chance. It's a shame she has to resort to something so gaudy and physical, but even her best telekinetic blow wouldn't be so impressive with that shield in the way—ah, yes, that reminds her that she needs to drop her own. She promptly does so, giving her sweetheart-to-be a clear view. The gem on her forehead begins glowing, and she races at Lydda, gem forward, pink streaks of psychic energy flying backward from it. Once she's absolutely sure she's close enough, she pounces! She sails clear over both Lydda and her substitute, and crashes into the floor with a yowl. The audience bursts into laughter, but she doesn't hear them. All she hears is the silent disapproval of her personal, much more important audience.

Lydda rolls onto her back in her sleep; the substitute floats back on top to reclaim its post. Arrr, her hunt be going badly. It's been weeks without a glimpse of her quarry, the food's dwindling, and her first mate Chatot thinks she hears talk of mutiny rumbling lately. The crew think she's loony chasing after this creature at sea—why would a great beast o' fire be anythin' but a lubber? She's even starting to believe herself that it was just the grog playing a trick on her. But then, one day, with an urgent "AVAST!", the lookout Pelipper swoops down and starts squawking his bill off. Lydda gets the gist of it, though: some sort of giant brown dog cat thing is running across the sea towards them, cape or something like a cloud billowing behind it, a trail of steam rising in its wake. There's no mistaking that. She was right after all.

Back in reality, Liberalis turns around, after some calming down, for a second attempt at showing off. She's already within pouncing distance this time, so she doesn't need to do any running, and she allows herself the extra time to calculate her leap. She springs into the air once more and comes down square on the substitute's stomach. The full force of the headbutt smashes into the substitute, and it comes undone, dissolving in a rush of flames.

Lydda jolts awake. The dream didn't end so well. The beast had run off again, and after several more encounters, she eventually set the ship on fire in her anger. The rest of the crew could fly or swim, but... The Typhlosion shudders. She doesn't want to think about it. She sits up, and then begins gawking again. She's awake, right? She digs a claw into the opposite arm. Ouch! Yes, definitely awake. But her beast is still there. Not that she's complaining. Even in her dream, it hadn't been this much of a looker. Its mane and the cloud on its back are rippling majestically without any wind, damn. She gets up to go schmooze with it, completely ignoring Liberalis, and it leaps away to the other side of the stage. Oh, great, nice to see that part hasn't changed. She drops onto all fours to give chase.

While Lydda runs frantic circles around the stage, always ten steps behind, Liberalis sits very, very still, trying to tune out the audience. This is a much more subtle, more impressive move, and she can't afford to mess this one up. She prods her mind a short distance into the future. Her illusion is gone by then, she notes with dismay, but that isn't the point. She needs to keep her inner eye on her opponent. Any moment, Lydda will let her guard down, somewhere, if only for a brief second... Yes. There. Perfect. Liberalis concentrates hard on that moment, channelling her energy into the future to strike at that exact point.

When she returns to the present, Agony has ended, and the image has already cleared from her mind. It takes a moment to sink in, but then it hits her like an anvil. She's absolutely moritifed. Did that honestly happen? Yes, she spent the entire round swooning over some imaginary dreamboat, knowing full well she was just seeing things. She can only hope nobody caught on. Lydda, on the other hand, stands back up and fixes her hat, feeling some disappointment, but no shame whatsoever.

  • Word count: 1269
  • Bleh, I love the third and fourth paragraphs and the rest didn't turn out nearly as awesome as I hoped.
  • I'm not sure where Lydda got a Light Screen. I guess RTB mixed up Mimic and Mirror Move or something?
  • I'll need your song lists.
  • Negrek posts first this round.

(( Mimic used to use the move in addition to copying it; it didn't even occur to me that that changed recently when I was reading over that reffing, heh.

Regardless, Lydda has the better fantasy. Who wouldn't go crazy for that rad surfer boy Entei? ))

I'll PM the rest of the song list to Zhorken in a couple minutes, but my song for this round is VNV Nation's "Where There is Light", which reduces the damage from dark-type attacks by 3%. Utterly useless this battle as it turns out, but badass song anyway, so whatever.

Well, Liberalis, the tables are turned--so turn them right back. We want to bump next round's song up a bit, so that will help us in that regard as well. Now, Lydda's going to be in for a world of hurt at some point this round, since there's no escaping that future sight. Let's add to that, though--fire off a shadow ball, or a swift if Lydda has clones. If she's got a substitute or you don't see her, chill instead.

Final action, then: rest! Lydda got her little nap--you deserve one, too. If you didn't get trick room up, though, you should yawn now instead, or chill if Lydda is protecting, has clones, or has a sub.

Entei, huh Lydda? Didn't know you had such big aspirations, heh. Would've been nice if you hadn't gotten quite so into your little fantasy, but that was the risk I took with the song, so it's not a big problem.

Anyway, onward.

Why do you not know Taunt? blah. Well. I suppose we could use a flinch move and hope for the best, but... let's just try to work with the trick room instead. Go ahead and Curse yourself - that should make your speed stats equal and cancel out the tiny bonus Liberalis would have gotten. Future Sight, meanwhile, is gonna hurt enough already, so Protect against that Shadow Ball. Then AFTER Liberalis goes to sleep, Covet that berry. Resting up won't be helping her for long...

Curse ~ Protect ~ Covet

-------------------------------------

Lydda is all too eager to get working on her plan of attack this round. She has a few choice words for whatever blighters showed her such a booty beauty, then took her beastie away after a short chase barely worth mentioning. She's a pirate, by thunder, and even she can't believe anyone could be that bloody horrible. Without even waiting for Where There Is Light to fade in, she begins shouting her indignation for everyone to hear, especially whatever spirit's been screwing with her head. She has half a mind to keelhaul— Arr, it's working. Those ghosties are sorry they ever bedevilled the mighty Lydda. They're surrendering their strength to her; she feels twice the swashbuckler all of a sudden. Something's not right, though; she can feel it in her bones. She doesn't feel quite as limber as before. Forgetting that was part of the plan, she drops back on all fours and takes a quick run around the stage; sure enough, it's not quite as quick as when she was chasing Entei around. Avast, they've nicked some o' the wind from her sails, the rotten—

Liberalis is impressed. Lydda is obviously taking her pirate role very seriously; some of the phrases erupting from her mouth are entirely new to the Espeon. Regardless, she has a performance of her own to get on with. She closes her eyes to concentrate, and within seconds, her gem is gleaming despite Lydda's continued hollering at the air. A glowing violet grid spreads out across the floor from the middle of the stage, then rises around the perimeter to form walls, and closes into a ceiling along the actual ceiling; the lines of the grid are each a good meter apart, thankfully, so they don't obstruct the audience's view much. A wispy, filmy miasma instantly fills the enclosure, tinged the same violet as the cage, distorting time in a couple of very particular ways. Both Pokémon, being rather fast, begin moving in slow motion, as if swimming through the wibbly-wobbly, timey-wimey room of... stuff.

After a curious sweeping look around the timey-wimey room, Lydda surrounds herself in a translucent green shield of energy, which looks more like a soft gray through the violet haze. It springs up just as quickly as usual; the glitch in time obviously isn't interested in interfering in this specific move. Liberalis gives the barrier a scrutinizing stare. By the letter of her commands, she should be pelting that shield with a Shadow Ball. However, she can tell perfectly well what that shield is and that there would be no point in attacking it. In the end, she decides that starting her break early sounds like a much better course of action. From a purely tactical point of view, of course. And, come to think of it, she can't see Lydda that well through this time soup and the barrier; she could reasonably interpret her commands this way... Yes, excellent. The Espeon arches her back in a stretch, accompanied by a huge yawn, which looks all the sleepier in slow motion. She then flops onto her belly, tucking her paws underneath her in the kittyloaf position. She recognizes this situation; there's a good show coming up.

Suddenly, a gigantic, crackling ball of psychic energy, twice the size of Lydda, sweeps across the stage towards the Typhlosion, seemingly out of nowhere. Her shield dissipates the instant before the blast would have hit it, before she can even process what's happening. It sweeps over her, shocking through her body and leaving her seeing even more funny colours than the Trick Room boasts for nearly ten seconds. The ball itself is unfazed, though, and keeps going; it fizzles out when it reaches the wall of the Trick Room.

Liberalis contentedly watches Lydda stumble around until the Typhlosion eventually shakes her head clear. Very pleased with her performance, the Espeon rolls onto her side, curls up, and quickly falls into a sleep-like trance state. A warm pink glow surrounds her body, and all her scorches heal away. Even the singed portions of her fur flake off and quickly regrow, though her coat still isn't nearly as tidy as it was before.

A giddy, grinning Lydda tiptoes up to her sleeping opponent. Arrrr, she finally gets to commit a true act of piracy! She pokes around for a bit, trying to find the treasure; eventually, she spies a little drawstring bag hung around Liberalis's neck. Lydda carefully reaches down and severs the bag from its string with one claw, patiently taking as much time as she needs to pry the bag away. Then she gives Liberalis a swift kick and scampers off. After putting a few meters' distance between her and her still-sleeping victim, the Typhlosion takes her treasure out to admire it and tosses aside the bag. A... berry. Arr. Well, it's something. She tucks it proudly into the brim of her hat. It's the plundering that's the fun part, anyway.

Arena Notes:
  • The Trick Room encompasses the stage from floor to ceiling. Trick Room (four more actions).

Notes:
  • Word count: 828 (for my own reference)
  • Bleh, sorry I barely referenced the song this round. A show song about clear stuff that is happening is way easier to draw from.
  • Negrek posts first this round again, due to Trick Room. The song will be Falling Awake by Gary Jules: "Sleeping pokémon may receive and act upon commands as though they were awake."

Energy and Damage:
  • Liberalis's health: 79% + 21% (Rest) - 8% (Covet) = 92%
  • Liberalis's energy: 50% - 4% (Trick Room) + 10% (Chill) - 11% (Rest) = 45%
  • Lydda's health: 100% - 18% (Future Sight) = 82%
  • Lydda's energy: 65% - 4% (Curse) - 3% (Protect) - 3% (Covet) = 55%

That's the way, Liberalis. But I'm afraid now's not the time to be napping! Let's queue up another future sight, and then, since Lydda seems so very keen on your berry, I think we'd better get it back. Pull a covet right back on her!

If, when you go to steal back your berry, Lydda has a substitute, instead bust it with a mighty stored power. If she has clones, is protecting or detecting, or is otherwise unreachable, chill.

Final action, swift unless you haven't gotten your berry back and Lydda has no substitute or clones. In that case, try for covet. If she's protecting, detecting, or unreachable, chill.

Hmm, I'd be really disappointed if this battle ended by DQ. Could we perhaps give him until the 6th to post?
